Valuations from representation theory and tropical geometry
We recall the space of seminorms discussed by Payne in \cite{P} and define a slight modification, the space of graded valuations. After explaining how these spaces relate to tropical geometry, we describe examples of graded valuations which come from the representation theory of reductive groups.
Moment polytopes, semigroup of representations and Kazarnovskii's theorem

Two representations of a reductive group G are spectrally equivalent if the same irreducible representations appear in both of them. The semigroup of finite dimensional representations of G with tensor product and up to spectral equivalence is a rather complicated object. We show that the Grothendieck group of this semigroup is more tractable and give a description of it in terms of moment polytopes of representations. As a corollary, we give a proof of the Kazarnovskii theorem on the number of solutions in G of a system f_1(x) = ... = f_m(x) = 0, where m=dim(G) and each f_i is a generic function in the space of matrix elements of a representation pi_i of G.
A remark on asymptotic enumeration of highest weights in tensor powers of a representation

We consider the semigroup S of highest weights appearing in tensor powers V^k of a finite dimensional representation V of a connected reductive group. We describe the cone generated by S as the cone over the weight polytope of V intersected with the positive Weyl chamber. From this we get a description for the asymptotic of the number of highest weights appearing in V^k in terms of the volume of this polytope.
Embeddings of local fields in simple algebras and simplicial structures on the Bruhat-Tits building

This article answers a question that naturally arises from the articles by Grabitz and Broussous "Pure elements and intertwining classes of simple strata in local central simple algebras" and Broussous and Lemaire "Buildings of GL(m,D) and Centralizers". For an Azumaya-Algebra A over a non-Archimedean local field F, Grabitz and Broussous have introduced embedding invariants for field embeddings, that is for pairs (E,a), where E is a field extension of F in A, and $a$ is a hereditary order which is normalised by E^x. On the other hand if we take such a field extension E and define B to be the centralizer of E in A, then G:=A^x and G_E:=B^x are sets of rational points of reductive groups defined over F and E respectively. Broussous and Lemaire have defined a map j_E: I^{E^x}\to I_E, where $I$ is the the Euclidean building of $G$, and I_E is the Euclidean building of G_E. The question which we address is to relate the embedding invariants to the behavior of the map j_E with respect to the simplicial structures of $I$ and I_E. I have to thank very much Prof. Zink from Homboldt University Berlin for his helpful remarks, the revision of the work and for giving my the interesting task.
The strong Macdonald conjecture and Hodge theory on the Loop Grassmannian

We prove the strong Macdonald conjecture of Hanlon and Feigin for reductive groups G. In a geometric reformulation, we show that the Dolbeault cohomology $H^q(X;Ω^p)$ of the loop Grassmannian X is freely generated by de Rham's forms on the disk coupled to algebra generators of $H*(BG)$. Equating Euler characteristics of the two gives an identity, independently known to Macdonald [M], which generalises Ramanujan's_1ψ_1 sum. Simply laced root systems at level 1 are related to a `strong'_4ψ_4 sum. Failure of Hodge decomposition implies the singularity of X, and of the algebraic loop groups.
On a class of double cosets in reductive algebraic groups
We study a class of double coset spaces R_A \backslash G_1 \times G_2 /R_C, where G_1 and G_2 are connected reductive algebraic groups, and R_A and R_C are certain spherical subgroups of G_1 \times G_2 obtained by ``identifying'' Levi factors of parabolic subgroups in G_1 and G_2. Such double cosets naturally appear in the symplectic leaf decompositions of Poisson homogeneous spaces of complex reductive groups with the Belavin-Drinfeld Poisson structures. They also appear in orbit decompositions of the De Concini-Procesi compactifications of semi-simple groups of adjoint type. We find explicit parametrizations of the double coset spaces and describe the double cosets as homogeneous spaces of R_A \times R_C. We further show that all such double cosets give rise to set-theoretical solutions to the quantum Yang-Baxter equation on unipotent algebraic groups.

We extend the methods developed in our earlier work to algorithmically compute the intersection cohomology Betti numbers of reductive varieties. These form a class of highly symmetric varieties that includes equivariant compactifications of reductive groups. Thereby, we extend a well-known algorithm for toric varieties.
Structure constants for Hecke and representation rings
We study the structure constants defining two related rings: the spherical Hecke algebra of a split connected reductive group over a non-Archimedean local field, and the representation ring of the Langlands dual group.

We show that a connected split reductive group G over a field of characteristic 0 is uniquely determined up to isomorphism by specifying a maximal torus T of G, the set of isomorphism classes of irreducible representations of G, and the character homomorphism from the Grothendieck ring of G to that of T.

Suppose that G is a linearly reductive group. We study the minimal free resolution of the invariant ring. If G is a finite linearly reductive group, then the ring of invariants is generated in degree at most |G|, the group order. We prove that the ideal of relations of a minimal set of generators of the invariant ring is generated in degree at most 2|G|.

We study root systems equipped with a basis of dominant weights such that certain axioms hold. This formalism allows to define a linear basis P of the space of Weyl group invariant polynomials. This basis is actually a family depending on at least one parameter. Our main result is the construction of difference operators which are simultaneously diagonalized by P. From this, Pieri type rules are derived. This generalizes results for shifted Jack polynomials.
Even though the approach is purely combinatorial, the main motivation comes from multiplicity free actions of reductive groups on vector spaces. Then the algebra of invariant differential operators has a distinguished basis, the Capelli operators, which gives rise to a basis P as above. The paper ends with a comprehensive table detailing the combinatorial structure of multiplicity free actions.
