Cyclic sieving for generalised non-crossing partitions associated to complex reflection groups of exceptional type - the details
We prove that the generalised non-crossing partitions associated to well-generated complex reflection groups of exceptional type obey two different cyclic sieving phenomena, as conjectured by Armstrong, respectively by Bessis and Reiner. This manuscript accompanies the paper "Cyclic sieving for generalised non-crossing partitions associated to complex reflection groups of exceptional type" [arXiv:1001.0028], for which it provides the computational details.

We present the proof of the cyclic sieving conjectures for generalised non-crossing partitions associated to well-generated complex reflection groups due to Armstrong, respectively to Bessis and Reiner, for the 26 exceptional well-generated complex reflection groups. The computational details are provided in the manuscript "Cyclic sieving for generalised non-crossing partitions associated to complex reflection groups of exceptional type - the details" [arXiv:1001.0030].

We construct (q,t)-Catalan polynomials and q-Fuss-Catalan polynomials for any irreducible complex reflection group W. The two main ingredients in this construction are Rouquier's formulation of shift functors for the rational Cherednik algebras of W, and Opdam's analysis of permutations of the irreducible representations of W arising from the Knizhnik-Zamolodchikov connection.
Finite groups acting linearly: Hochschild cohomology and the cup product

When a finite group acts linearly on a complex vector space, the natural semi-direct product of the group and the polynomial ring over the space forms a skew group algebra. This algebra plays the role of the coordinate ring of the resulting orbifold and serves as a substitute for the ring of invariant polynomials from the viewpoint of geometry and physics. Its Hochschild cohomology predicts various Hecke algebras and deformations of the orbifold. In this article, we investigate the ring structure of the Hochschild cohomology of the skew group algebra. We show that the cup product coincides with a natural smash product, transferring the cohomology of a group action into a group action on cohomology. We express the algebraic structure of Hochschild cohomology in terms of a partial order on the group (modulo the kernel of the action). This partial order arises after assigning to each group element the codimension of its fixed point space. We describe the algebraic structure for Coxeter groups, where this partial order is given by the reflection length function; a similar combinatorial description holds for an infinite family of complex reflection groups.

We analyze the structure of the algebra N of symmetric polynomials in non-commuting variables in so far as it relates to its commutative counterpart. Using the "place-action" of the symmetric group, we are able to realize the latter as the invariant polynomials inside the former. We discover a tensor product decomposition of N analogous to the classical theorems of Chevalley, Shephard-Todd on finite reflection groups.

In this paper we prove that a deformed tensor product of two Lefschetz algebras is a Lefschetz algebra. We then use this result in conjunction with some basic Schubert calculus to prove that the coinvariant ring of a finite reflection has the strong Lefschetz property.

In this paper, we study $k$-parabolic arrangements, a generalization of $k$-equal arrangements for finite real reflection groups. When $k=2$, these arrangements correspond to the well-studied Coxeter arrangements. Brieskorn (1971) showed that the fundamental group of the complement, over $\mathbb{C}$, of the type $W$ Coxeter arrangement is isomorphic to the pure Artin group of type $W$. Khovanov (1996) gave an algebraic description for the fundamental group of the complement, over $\mathbb{R}$, of the 3-equal arrangement. We generalize Khovanov's result to obtain an algebraic description of the fundamental groups of the complements of 3-parabolic arrangements for arbitrary finite reflection groups. Our description is a real analogue to Brieskorn's description.

For finite reflection groups of types A and B, we determine the diameter of the graph whose vertices are reduced words for the longest element and whose edges are braid relations. This is deduced from a more general theorem that applies to supersolvable hyperplane arrangements.

We introduce a notion of essential hyperbolic Coxeter polytope as a polytope which fits some minimality conditions. The problem of classification of hyperbolic reflection groups can be easily reduced to classification of essential Coxeter polytopes. We determine a potentially large combinatorial class of polytopes containing, in particular, all the compact hyperbolic Coxeter polytopes of dimension at least 6 which are known to be essential, and prove that this class contains finitely many polytopes only. We also construct an effective algorithm of classifying polytopes from this class, realize it in four-dimensional case, and formulate a conjecture on finiteness of the number of essential polytopes.

We consider projections of points onto fundamental chambers of finite real reflection groups. Our main result shows that for groups of type $A_n$, $B_n$, and $D_n$, the coefficients of the characteristic polynomial of the reflection arrangement are proportional to the spherical volumes of the sets of points that are projected onto faces of a given dimension. We also provide strong evidence that the same connection holds for the exceptional, and thus all, reflection groups. These results naturally extend those of De Concini and Procesi, Stembridge, and Denham which establish the relationship for 0-dimensional projections. This work is also of interest for the field of order-restricted statistical inference, where projections of random points play an important role.
Cell Complexes for Arrangements with Group Actions
For a real oriented hyperplane arrangement, we show that the corresponding Salvetti complex is homotopy equivalent to the complement of the complexified arrangement. This result was originally proved by M. Salvetti. Our proof follows the framework of a proof given by L. Paris and relies heavily on the notation of oriented matroids. We also show that homotopy equivalence is preserved when we quotient by the action of the corresponding reflection group. In particular, the Salvetti complex of the braid arrangement in $\ell$ dimensions modulo the action of the symmetric group is a cell complex which is homotopy equivalent to the space of unlabelled configurations of $\ell$ distinct points. Lastly, we describe a construction of the orbit complex from the dual complex for all finite reflection arrangements in dimension 2. This description yields an easy derivation of the so-called "braid relations" in the case of braid arrangement.

A finite subgroup of $GL(n,\mathbb C)$ is involutory if the sum of the dimensions of its irreducible complex representations is given by the number of absolute involutions in the group. A uniform combinatorial model is constructed for all non-exceptional irreducible complex reflection groups which are involutory including, in particular, all infinite families of finite irreducible Coxeter groups.

The purpose of this note is to complete the study, begun in the first author's PhD thesis, of the topology of the poset of generalized noncrossing partitions associated to real reflection groups. In particular, we calculate the Euler characteristic of this poset with the maximal and minimal elements deleted. As we show, the result on the Euler characteristic extends to generalized noncrossing partitions associated to well-generated complex reflection groups.

We study the Hurwitz action of the classical braid group on factorisations of a Coxeter element c in a well-generated complex reflection group W. It is well-known that the Hurwitz action is transitive on the set of reduced decompositions of c in reflections. Our main result is a similar property for the primitive factorisations of c, i.e. factorisations with only one factor which is not a reflection. The motivation is the search for a geometric proof of Chapoton's formula for the number of chains of given length in the non-crossing partitions lattice NCP_W. Our proof uses the properties of the Lyashko-Looijenga covering and the geometry of the discriminant of W.

In type A, the q,t-Fuss-Catalan numbers can be defined as a bigraded Hilbert series of a module associated to the symmetric group. We generalize this construction to (finite) complex reflection groups and, based on computer experiments, we exhibit several conjectured algebraic and combinatorial properties of these polynomials with non-negative integer coefficients. We prove the conjectures for the dihedral groups and for the cyclic groups. Finally, we present several ideas how the q,t-Fuss-Catalan numbers could be related to some graded Hilbert series of modules arising in the context of rational Cherednik algebras and thereby generalize known connections.

Let $W$ be a finite irreducible real reflection group, which is a Coxeter group. We explicitly construct a basis for the module of differential 1-forms with logarithmic poles along the Coxeter arrangement by using a primitive derivation. As a consequence, we extend the Hodge filtration, indexed by nonnegative integers, into a filtration indexed by all integers. This filtration coincides with the filtration by the order of poles. The results are translated into the derivation case.

For any finite, real reflection group $W$, we construct a geometric basis for the homology of the corresponding non-crossing partition lattice. We relate this to the basis for the homology of the corresponding intersection lattice introduced by Björner and Wachs in \cite{BW} using a general construction of a generic affine hyperplane for the central hyperplane arrangement defined by $W$.
