Properties of the Dot Product Graph of a Commutative Ring
Let $R$ be a commutative ring with identity and $n\geq1$ be an integer. Let $R^{n}=R\times\cdots\times R~(n~times)$. The \textit{total dot product} graph, denoted by $TD(R,n)$ is a simple graph with elements of $R^{n}-\{(0,0,\ldots,0)\}$ as vertices, and two distinct vertices $\mathbf{x}$ and $\mathbf{y}$ are adjacent if and only if $\mathbf{x} \cdot \mathbf{y}=0\in R$, where $\mathbf{x} \cdot \mathbf{y}$ denotes the dot product of $\mathbf{x}$ and $\mathbf{y}$. In this paper, we find the structure of $TD(R\times S,n)$ with respect to the structure of $TD(R,n)$ and $TD(S,n)$. In addition, we find the degree of vertices of this graph. We determine when it is regular. Let $\mathbb{F}$ be a finite field. It is shown that if $TD(\mathbb{F},n)\simeq TD(R,m)$, then $n=m$ and $R\simeq\mathbb{F}$. A number of results concerning the domination number are also presented. Furthermore, we give some results on the clique and the independence number of $TD(R,n)$. It is shown that the ring $R$ is finite if and only if its independence number is finite. Finally, we classify all planar graphs within this class.

The fiber dimension of a graph
Published • View PublicationBIB
Graphs on integer points of polytopes whose edges come from a set of allowed differences are studied. It is shown that any simple graph can be embedded in that way. The minimal dimension of such a representation is the fiber dimension of the given graph. The fiber dimension is determined for various classes of graphs and an upper bound in terms of the chromatic number is stated.

Gauss-Bonnet for multi-linear valuations
We prove Gauss-Bonnet and Poincare-Hopf formulas for multi-linear valuations on finite simple graphs G=(V,E) and answer affirmatively a conjecture of Gruenbaum from 1970 by constructing higher order Dehn-Sommerville valuations which vanish for all d-graphs without boundary. An example of a quadratic valuation is the Wu characteristic w(G) which sums (-1)^(dim(x)+dim(y)) over all intersecting pairs of complete subgraphs x,y of a G. More generally, an intersection number w(A,B) sums (-1)^(dim(x)+dim(y)) over pairs x,y, where x is in A and y is in B and x,y intersect. w(G) is a quadratic Euler characteristic X(G), where X sums (-1)^dim(x) over all complete subgraphs x of G. We prove that w is multiplicative, like Euler characteristic: w(G x H) = w(G) w(H) for any two graphs and that w is invariant under Barycentric refinements. We construct a curvature K satisfying Gauss-Bonnet w(G) = sum K(a). We also prove w(G) = X(G)-X(dG) for Euler characteristic X which holds for any d-graph G with boundary dG. We also show higher order Poincare-Hopf formulas: there is for every multi-linear valuation X and function f an index i(a) such that sum i(a)=X(G). For d-graphs G and X=w it agrees with the Euler curvature. For the vanishing multi-valuations which were conjectured to exist, like for the quadratic valuation X(G) = (V X) Y with X=(1,-1,1,-1,1),Y=(0,-2,3,-4,5) on 4-graphs, discrete 4 manifolds, where V_{ij}(G) is the f-matrix counting the number of i and j-simplices in G intersecting, the curvature is constant zero. For all graphs and multi-linear Dehn-Sommerville relations, the Dehn-Sommerville curvature K(v) at a vertex is a Dehn-Sommerville valuation on the unit sphere S(v). We show X V(G) Y = v(G) Y for any linear valuation Y of a d-graph G with f-vector v(G). This provides examples for the Gruenbaum conjecture.
How to determine if a random graph with a fixed degree sequence has a giant component
Published • View PublicationBIB
For a fixed degree sequence $\mathcal{D}=(d_1,...,d_n)$, let $G(\mathcal{D})$ be a uniformly chosen (simple) graph on $\{1,...,n\}$ where the vertex $i$ has degree $d_i$. In this paper we determine whether $G(\mathcal{D})$ has a giant component with high probability, essentially imposing no conditions on $\mathcal{D}$. We simply insist that the sum of the degrees in $\mathcal{D}$ which are not 2 is at least $λ(n)$ for some function $λ$ going to infinity with $n$. This is a relatively minor technical condition, and when $\mathcal{D}$ does not satisfy it, both the probability that $G(\mathcal{D})$ has a giant component and the probability that $G(\mathcal{D})$ has no giant component are bounded away from $1$.

A Note On Vertex Distinguishing Edge colorings of Trees
A proper edge coloring of a simple graph $G$ is called a vertex distinguishing edge coloring (vdec) if for any two distinct vertices $u$ and $v$ of $G$, the set of the colors assigned to the edges incident to $u$ differs from the set of the colors assigned to the edges incident to $v$. The minimum number of colors required for all vdecs of $G$ is denoted by $χ\,'_s(G)$ called the vdec chromatic number of $G$. Let $n_d(G)$ denote the number of vertices of degree $d$ in $G$. In this note, we show that a tree $T$ with $n_2(T)\leq n_1(T)$ holds $χ\,'_s(T)=n_1(T)+1$ if its diameter $D(T)=3$ or one of two particular trees with $D(T) =4$, and $χ\,'_s(T)=n_1(T)$ otherwise; furthermore $χ\,'_{es}(T)=χ\,'_s(T)$ when $|E(T)|\leq 2(n_1(T)+1)$, where $χ\,'_{es}(T)$ is the equitable vdec chromatic number of $T$.
Neighborhood covering and independence on two superclasses of cographs
Given a simple graph $G$, a set $C \subseteq V(G)$ is a neighborhood cover set if every edge and vertex of $G$ belongs to some $G[v]$ with $v \in C$, where $G[v]$ denotes the subgraph of $G$ induced by the closed neighborhood of the vertex $v$. Two elements of $E(G) \cup V(G)$ are neighborhood-independent if there is no vertex $v\in V(G)$ such that both elements are in $G[v]$. A set $S\subseteq V(G)\cup E(G)$ is neighborhood-independent if every pair of elements of $S$ is neighborhood-independent. Let $ρ_{\mathrm n}(G)$ be the size of a minimum neighborhood cover set and $α_{\mathrm n}(G)$ of a maximum neighborhood-independent set. Lehel and Tuza defined neighborhood-perfect graphs $G$ as those where the equality $ρ_{\mathrm n}(G') = α_{\mathrm n}(G')$ holds for every induced subgraph $G'$ of $G$. In this work we prove forbidden induced subgraph characterizations of the class of neighborhood-perfect graphs, restricted to two superclasses of cographs: $P_4$-tidy graphs and tree-cographs. We give as well linear-time algorithms for solving the recognition problem of neighborhood-perfect graphs and the problem of finding a minimum neighborhood cover set and a maximum neighborhood-independent set in these same classes.

3-connected graphs and their degree sequences
Necessary and sufficient conditions for a sequence of positive integers to be the degree sequence of a 3-connected simple graph are detailed. Conditions are also given under which such a sequence is necessarily 3-connected i.e. the sequence can only be realised as a 3-connected graph. Finally, a matrix is introduced whose non-empty entries partition the set of 3-connected graphs.

On an Edge Precoloring Conjecture
Edwards, van den Heuvel, Kang, and Sereni conjectured the following strengthening of Vizing's Theorem: let $G$ be a simple graph, and let $K = Δ(G) + 1$. For any matching $M$ in $G$ and any precoloring of the edges in $M$ using the colors $\{1, \ldots, K\}$, there is some proper $K$-edge-coloring of $G$ extending the given precoloring. We give an infinite family of counterexamples to this conjecture, and prove a weaker version of the conjecture proposed in the same work.

On Konig-Egervary Collections of Maximum Critical Independent Sets
Published • View PublicationBIB
Let G be a simple graph with vertex set V(G). A set S is independent if no two vertices from S are adjacent. The graph G is known to be a Konig-Egervary if alpha(G)+mu(G)= |V(G)|, where alpha(G) denotes the size of a maximum independent set and mu(G) is the cardinality of a maximum matching. The number d(X)= |X|-|N(X)| is the difference of X, and an independent set A is critical if d(A) = max{d(I):I is an independent set in G} (Zhang; 1990). Let Omega(G) denote the family of all maximum independent sets. Let us say that a family Gamma of independent sets is a Konig-Egervary collection if |Union of Gamma| + |Intersection of Gamma| = 2alpha(G) (Jarden, Levit, Mandrescu; 2015). In this paper, we show that if the family of all maximum critical independent sets of a graph G is a Konig-Egervary collection, then G is a Konig-Egervary graph. It generalizes one of our conjectures recently validated in (Short; 2015).

On connected simple graphs and their degree sequences
This note describes necessary and sufficient conditions for a sequence of positive integers to be the degree sequence of a connected simple graph. Conditions are also given under which a sequence is necessarily connected i.e. the sequence can only be realised as a connected graph. A matrix is introduced whose non-empty entries partition the set of connected graphs. The note concludes with a result relating the number of edges in a simple graph to the connectedness of the graph.

Complete graph immersions and minimum degree
An immersion of a graph H in another graph G is a one-to-one mapping phi:V(H)->V(G) and a collection of edge-disjoint paths in G, one for each edge of H, such that the path P_{uv} corresponding to the edge uv has endpoints phi(u) and phi(v). The immersion is strong if the paths P_{uv} are internally disjoint from phi(V(H)). We prove that every simple graph of minimum degree at least 11t+7 contains a strong immersion of the complete graph K_t. This improves on previously known bound of minimum degree at least 200t obtained by DeVos et al.

This note gives necessary and sufficient conditions for a sequence of non-negative integers to be the degree sequence of a connected simple graph. This result is implicit in a paper of Hakimi. A new alternative characterisation of these necessary and sufficient conditions is also given.

Cliques in the union of $C_4$-free graphs
Published • View PublicationBIB
Let $B$ and $R$ be two simple graphs with vertex set $V$, and let $G(B,R)$ be the simple graph with vertex set $V$, in which two vertices are adjacent if they are adjacent in at least one of $B$ and $R$. We prove that if $B$ and $R$ are two $C_4$-free graphs on the same vertex set $V$ and $G(B,R)$ is the complete graph, then there exists an $B$-clique $X$, an $R$-clique $Y$ and a clique $Z$ in $B$ and $R$, such that $V=X\cup Y\cup Z$. Further, if $x\in Z$ then $x$ is one of the vertices of some double $C_5$ in $G(B,R)$. In particular, if also $G(B,R)$ does not contains a double $C_5$, then $V$ is obedient. We obtain that if $B$ and $R$ are $C_4$-free graphs then $ω(G(B,R))\leq ω(B)+ω(R)+\frac{1}{2}\min(ω(B),ω(R))$ and $ω(G(B,R))\leq ω(B)+ω(R)+ω(H(B,R))$ where $H(B,R)$ is the simple graph with vertex set $V$, in which two vertices are adjacent if they are adjacent in $B$ and $R$.

Domination polynomial of lexicographic product of specific graphs
Published • View PublicationBIB
Let $G$ be a simple graph of order $n$. The domination polynomial of $G$ is the polynomial $D(G,λ)=\sum_{i=0}^{n} d(G,i) λ^{i}$, where $d(G,i)$ is the number of dominating sets of $G$ of size $i$. We consider the lexicographic product of two specific graphs and study their domination polynomials.

The Turan Number of Disjoint Copies of Paths
Published • View PublicationBIB
The Turán number of a graph $H$, $ex(n,H)$, is the maximum number of edges in a simple graph of order $n$ which does not contain $H$ as a subgraph. Let $k\cdot P_3$ denote $k$ disjoint copies of a path on $3$ vertices. In this paper, we determine the value $ex(n, k\cdot P_3)$ and characterize all extremal graphs. This extends a result of Bushaw and Kettle [N. Bushaw and N. Kettle, Turán Numbers of multiple and equibipartite forests, Combin. Probab. Comput., 20(2011) 837-853.], which solved the conjecture proposed by Gorgol in [I. Gorgol. Turán numbers for disjoint copies of graphs. {\it Graphs Combin.}, 27 (2011) 661-667.].

The Hopf Algebra of graph invariants
We propose an algebraic study of the simple graph isomorphism problem. We define a Hopf algebra from an explicit realization of its elements as formal power series. We show that these series can be evaluated on graphs and count occurrences of subgraphs. We establish a criterion for the isomorphism test of two simple graphs by means of occurrence counting of subgraphs. This criterion is deduced from algebraic relations between elements of our algebra.

Vertex-weighted graphs and freeness of $ ψ$-graphical arrangements
Published • View PublicationBIB
Let $ G $ be a simple graph of $ \ell $ vertices $ \{1, \dots, \ell \} $ with edge set $ E_{G} $. The graphical arrangement $ \mathcal{A}_{G} $ consists of hyperplanes $ \{x_{i}-x_{j}=0\} $, where $ \{i, j \} \in E_{G} $. It is well known that three properties, chordality of $ G $, supersolvability of $ \mathcal{A}_{G} $, and freeness of $ \mathcal{A}_{G} $ are equivalent. Recently, Richard P. Stanley introduced $ ψ$-graphical arrangement $ \mathcal{A}_{G, ψ} $ as a generalization of graphical arrangements. Lili Mu and Stanley characterized the supersolvability of the $ ψ$-graphical arrangements and conjectured that the freeness and the supersolvability of $ ψ$-graphical arrangements are equivalent. In this paper, we will prove the conjecture.

On Sylvester Colorings of Cubic Graphs
If $G$ and $H$ are two cubic graphs, then an $H$-coloring of $G$ is a proper edge-coloring $f$ with edges of $H$, such that for each vertex $x$ of $G$, there is a vertex $y$ of $H$ with $f(\partial_G(x))=\partial_H(y)$. If $G$ admits an $H$-coloring, then we will write $H\prec G$. The Petersen coloring conjecture of Jaeger states that for any bridgeless cubic graph $G$, one has: $P\prec G$. The second author has recently introduced the Sylvester coloring conjecture, which states that for any cubic graph $G$ one has: $S\prec G$. Here $S$ is the Sylvester graph on $10$ vertices. In this paper, we prove the analogue of Sylvester coloring conjecture for cubic pseudo-graphs. Moreover, we show that if $G$ is any connected simple cubic graph $G$ with $G\prec P$, then $G = P$. This implies that the Petersen graph does not admit an $S_{16}$-coloring, where $S_{16}$ is the smallest connected simple cubic graph without a perfect matching. $S_{16}$ has $16$ vertices. %We conjecture that there are infinitely many connected cubic simple graphs which do not admit an %$S_{16}$-coloring. Finally, we obtain $2$ results towards the Sylvester coloring conjecture. The first result states that any cubic graph $G$ has a coloring with edges of Sylvester graph $S$ such that at least $\frac45$ of vertices of $G$ meet the conditions of Sylvester coloring conjecture. The second result states that any claw-free cubic graph graph admits an $S$-coloring. This results is an application of our result on cubic pseudo-graphs.
