Shard theory for $g$-fans
Published • View Publication • BIB
For a finite dimensional algebra $A$, the notion of $g$-fan $Σ(A)$ is defined from two-term silting complexes of $A$ in the real Grothendieck group $K_0(\mathsf{proj} A)_{\mathbb{R}}$. In this paper, we discuss the theory of shards to $Σ(A)$, which was originally defined for a hyperplane arrangement. We establish a correspondence between the set of join-irreducible elements of the poset of torsion classes of $\mathrm{mod} A$ and the set of shards of $Σ(A)$ for $g$-finite algebra $A$. Moreover, we show that the semistable region of a brick of $\mathrm{mod} A$ is exactly given by a shard. We also give a poset isomorphism of shard intersections and wide subcategories of $\mathrm{mod} A$.

Legendre theorems for a class of partitions with initial repetitions
Published • View Publication • BIB
Partitions with initial repetitions were introduced by George Andrews. We consider a subclass of these partitions and find Legendre theorems associated with their respective partition functions. The results in turn provide partition theoretic interpretations of some Rogers-Ramanujan identities due to Lucy J. Slater.
Circular flows in mono-directed signed graphs
Published • View Publication • BIB
In this paper the concept of circular $r$-flows in a mono-directed signed graph $(G, σ)$ is introduced. That is a pair $(D, f)$, where $D$ is an orientation on $G$ and $f: E(G)\to (-r,r)$ satisfies that $|f(e)|\in [1, r-1]$ for each positive edge $e$ and $|f(e)|\in [0, \frac{r}{2}-1]\cup [\frac{r}{2}+1, r)$ for each negative edge $e$, and the total in-flow equals the total out-flow at each vertex. The circular flow index of a signed graph $(G, σ)$ with no positive bridge, denoted $Φ_c(G,σ)$, is the minimum $r$ such that $(G, σ)$ admits a circular $r$-flow. This is the dual notion of circular colorings and circular chromatic numbers of signed graphs recently introduced in [Circular chromatic number of signed graphs. R. Naserasr, Z. Wang, and X. Zhu. Electronic Journal of Combinatorics, 28(2)(2021), \#P2.44], and is distinct from the concept of circular flows in bi-directed graphs associated to signed graphs studied in the literature. We give several equivalent definitions, study basic properties of circular flows in mono-directed signed graphs, explore relations with flows in graphs, and focus on upper bounds on $Φ_c(G,σ)$ in terms of the edge-connectivity of $G$. Meanwhile, we note that for the particular values of $r_{_k}=\frac{2k}{k-1}$, and when restricted to two natural subclasses of signed graphs, the existence of a circular $r_{_k} $-flow is strongly connected with the existence of a modulo $k$-orientation, and in case of planar graphs, based on duality, with the homomorphisms to $C_{-k}$.
Bivariate $P$-polynomial association schemes
Published in Algebraic Combinatorics, Volume 7 (2024) no. 2, pp. 361-382 • View Publication • BIB
Bivariate P-polynomial association scheme of type $(α,β)$ are defined as a generalization of the P-polynomial association schemes. This generalization is shown to be equivalent to a set of conditions on the intersection parameters. A number of known higher rank association schemes are seen to belong to this broad class. Bivariate Q-polynomial association schemes are similarly defined.
On the Secure Vertex Cover Pebbling Number
Published • View Publication • BIB
A new graph invariant called the secure vertex cover pebbling number, which is a combination of two graph invariants, namely secure vertex cover and cover pebbling number, is introduced in this paper. The secure vertex cover pebbling number of a graph G is the minimum number m so that every distribution of m pebbles can reach some secure vertex cover of G by a sequence of pebbling moves. In this paper, the complexity of the secure vertex cover problem and secure vertex cover pebbling problem are discussed. Also, we obtain some basic results and the secure vertex cover pebbling number for complete r- partite graphs, paths, Friendship graphs, and wheel graphs.
Is it easier to count communities than find them?
Random graph models with community structure have been studied extensively in the literature. For both the problems of detecting and recovering community structure, an interesting landscape of statistical and computational phase transitions has emerged. A natural unanswered question is: might it be possible to infer properties of the community structure (for instance, the number and sizes of communities) even in situations where actually finding those communities is believed to be computationally hard? We show the answer is no. In particular, we consider certain hypothesis testing problems between models with different community structures, and we show (in the low-degree polynomial framework) that testing between two options is as hard as finding the communities. Our methods give the first computational lower bounds for testing between two different ``planted'' distributions, whereas previous results have considered testing between a planted distribution and an i.i.d. ``null'' distribution. We also show a formal relationship between the low--degree frameworks for recovery in a planted model and for testing two planted models.
Irreducibility of the Tutte polynomial of an embedded graph
Published in Algebraic Combinatorics, Volume 5 (2022) no. 6, pp. 1337-1351 • View Publication • BIB
We prove that the ribbon graph polynomial of a graph embedded in an orientable surface is irreducible if and only if the embedded graph is neither the disjoint union nor the join of embedded graphs. This result is analogous to the fact that the Tutte polynomial of a graph is irreducible if and only if the graph is connected and non-separable.

Essential $\mathcal{F}$-sets of $\mathbb{N}$ under nonhomogeneous spectra
Let $α>0$ and $0<γ<1$. Define $g_{α,γ}:\mathbb{N}\rightarrow\mathbb{N}$ by $g_{α,γ}\left(n\right)=\lfloorαn+γ\rfloor$. The set $\left\{ g_{α,γ}\left(n\right):n\in\mathbb{N}\right\} $ is called the nonhomogeneous spectrum of $α$ and $γ$. We refer to the maps $g_{α,γ}$ as nonhomogeneous spectra. In \cite{BHK}, Bergelson, Hindman and Kra showed that if $A$ is an $IP$-set, a central set, an $IP^{\star}$-set, or a central$^{\star}$-set, then $g_{α,γ}\left[A\right]$ is the corresponding objects. Hindman and Johnsons extended this result to include several other notions of largeness: $C$-sets, $J$-sets, strongly central sets, piecwise syndetic sets, $AP$-sets syndetic set, $C^{\star}$-sets, strongly central$^{\star}$- sets . In \cite{DHS}, De, Hindman and Strauss introduced $C$-set and $J$-set and showed that $C$-sets satisfy the conclusion of the Central Sets Theorem. To prepare this article, we have been strongly motivated by the fact that $C$-sets are essential $\mathcal{J}$-sets. In this article, we prove some new results regarding nonhomogeneous spectra of essential $\mathcal{F}$-sets for shift invariant $\mathcal{F}$-sets. We have a special interest in the family $\mathcal{HSD}=\left\{ A\subseteq\mathbb{N}:\sum_{n\in A}\frac{1}{n}=\infty\right\} $ as this family is directly connected with the famous Erdős sum of reciprocal conjecture and as a consequence we get $g_{α,γ}\left[\mathbb{P}\right]\in\mathcal{HSD}$, where $\mathbb{P}$ is the set of prime numbers in $\mathbb{N}$. Throughout this article, we use some elementary techniques and algebra of the Stone-Čech compactifications of discrete semigroups.

Quaternary Legendre Pairs
Published • View Publication • BIB
We introduce quaternary Legendre pairs of length $\ell$. In contrast to binary Legendre pairs they can exist for even $\ell$ as well. First we show that they are pertinent to the construction of quaternary Hadamard matrices of order $2\ell+2$ and thus of binary Hadamard matrices of order $4\ell+4$. Then for a prime $p>2$ we present a construction of a pair of sequences of length $p$ from which we can derive quaternary Legendre pairs of length $\ell=2p$ by decompression for $p=3,5,7,13,19,31,41$. Moreover, we give also constructions of Legendre pairs of length $\ell$ for all remaining even $\ell\le 24$.

On Gosper-Karaji algebraic Identities
In this paper, we first quickly review the basics of an algebro-geometric method of Karaji's L-summing technique in today's modern language of algebra. Then, we also review the theory of Gosper's algorithm as a decision procedure for obtaining the indefinite sums involving hypergeometric terms. Then, we show that how one can use Gosper's algorithm equipped with the L-summing method to obtain a class of combinatorial identities associated with a given algebraic identity.

Gadget construction and structural convergence
Published • View Publication • BIB
Nešetřil and Ossona de Mendez recently proposed a new definition of graph convergence called structural convergence. The structural convergence framework is based on the probability of satisfaction of logical formulas from a fixed fragment of first-order formulas. The flexibility of choosing the fragment allows to unify the classical notions of convergence for sparse and dense graphs. Since the field is relatively young, the range of examples of convergent sequences is limited and only a few methods of construction are known. Our aim is to extend the variety of constructions by considering the gadget construction. We show that, when restricting to the set of sentences, the application of gadget construction on elementarily convergent sequences yields an elementarily convergent sequence. On the other hand, we show counterexamples witnessing that a generalization to the full first-order convergence is not possible without additional assumptions. We give several different sufficient conditions to ensure the full convergence. One of them states that the resulting sequence is first-order convergent if the replaced edges are dense in the original sequence of structures.
Edge separators for graphs excluding a minor
Published in Electronic Journal of Combinatorics, 30/4:P4.12, 2023 • View Publication • BIB
We prove that every $n$-vertex $K_t$-minor-free graph $G$ of maximum degree $Δ$ has a set $F$ of $O(t^2(\log t)^{1/4}\sqrt{Δn})$ edges such that every component of $G - F$ has at most $n/2$ vertices. This is best possible up to the dependency on $t$ and extends earlier results of Diks, Djidjev, Sykora, and Vrťo (1993) for planar graphs, and of Sykora and Vrťo (1993) for bounded-genus graphs. Our result is a consequence of the following more general result: The line graph of $G$ is isomorphic to a subgraph of the strong product $H \boxtimes K_{\lfloor p \rfloor}$ for some graph $H$ with treewidth at most $t-2$ and $p = \sqrt{(t-3)Δ|E(G)|} + Δ$.

A combinatorial description of stability for toric vector bundles
The aim of this paper is to discuss a combinatorial characterisation of stability for toric vector bundles (or equivariant reflexive sheaves) in the terms of their parliaments of polytopes, a generalization of moment polytopes for toric vector bundles by Di Rocco, Jabbusch and Smith. We also define subparliaments of polytopes and identify them with parliaments of equivariant subbundles.

Spectrum of $3$-uniform $6$- and $9$-cycle systems over $K_v^{(3)}-I$
Published in Discrete Mathematics 347 (3), 2024, 113782 • View Publication • BIB
We consider edge decompositions of $K_v^{(3)}-I$, the complete 3-uniform hypergraph of order $v$ minus a 1-factor (parallel class, packing of $v/3$ disjoint edges). We prove that a decomposition into tight 6-cycles exists if and only if $v\equiv 0,3,6$ (mod 12) and $v\geq 6$; and a decomposition into tight 9-cycles exists for all $v\geq 9$ divisible by 3. These results are complementary to the theorems of Akin et al. [Discrete Math. 345 (2022)] and Bunge et al. [Australas. J. Combin. 80 (2021)].
Counting tropical curves in $\mathbb{P}^1\times\mathbb{P}^1$: computation & polynomiality properties
Published • View Publication • BIB
Counts of curves in $\mathbb{P}^1\times\mathbb{P}^1$ with fixed contact order with the toric boundary and satisfying point conditions can be determined with tropical methods by Mikhalkin. If we require that our curves intersect the zero- and infinity-section only in points of contact order $1$, but allow arbitrary contact order for the zero- and infinity-fiber, the corresponding numbers reveal beautiful structural properties such as piecewise polynomiality, similar to the case of double Hurwitz numbers counting covers of $\mathbb{P}^1$ with special ramification profiles over zero and infinity by Ardila and Brugallé. This result was obtained using the floor diagram method to count tropical curves. Here, we expand the tropical tools to determine counts of curves in $\mathbb{P}^1\times\mathbb{P}^1$. We provide a computational tool (building on Polymake by Gawrilow and Joswig) that determines such numbers of tropical curves for any genus and any contact orders via a straightforward generalization of Mikhalkin's lattice path algorithm. The tool can also be used for other toric surfaces. To enable efficient computations also by hand, we introduce a new counting tool (for the case of rational curves with transverse contacts with the infinity section) which can be seen as a combination of the floor diagram and the lattice path approach: subfloor diagrams. We use both our computational tool and the subfloor diagrams for experiments revealing structural properties of these counts. We obtain first results on the (piecewise) polynomial structure of counts of rational curves in $\mathbb{P}^1\times\mathbb{P}^1$ with arbitrary contact orders on the zero- and infinity-fiber and restricted choices for the contact orders on the zero- and infinity-section.

Arctic curves of the 20V model on a triangle
Published • View Publication • BIB
We apply the Tangent Method of Colomo and Sportiello to predict the arctic curves of the Twenty Vertex model with specific domain wall boundary conditions on a triangle, in the Disordered phase, leading to a phase diagram with six types of frozen phases and one liquid one. The result relies on a relation to the Six Vertex model with domain wall boundary conditions and suitable weights, as a consequence of integrability. We also perform the exact refined enumeration of configurations.

Distant 2-Colored Components on Embeddings Part III: The General Case
This is the third in a sequence of three papers in which we prove the following generalization of Thomassen's 5-choosability theorem: Let $G$ be a finite graph embedded on a surface of genus $g$. Then $G$ can be $L$-colored, where $L$ is a list-assignment for $G$ in which every vertex has a 5-list except for a collection of pairwise far-apart components, each precolored with an ordinary 2-coloring, as long as the face-width of $G$ is at least $2^{Ω(g)}$ and the precolored components are of distance at least $2^{Ω(g)}$ apart. This provides an affirmative answer to a generalized version of a conjecture of Thomassen and also generalizes a result from 2017 of Dvořák, Lidický, Mohar, and Postle about distant precolored vertices. In a previous paper, we proved that the above result holds for a restricted class of embeddings which have no separating cycles of length three or four. In this paper, we use this special case to prove that the result holds in the general case.
Maximal Generalized Rank in Graphical Matrix Spaces
Published in Israel Journal of Mathematics 256.1 (2023): 297-309 • View Publication • BIB
In this note we prove two extensions of a recent combinatorial characterization due to Li, Qiao, Wigderson, Wigderson and Zhang (arXiv:2206.04815) of the maximal dimension of bounded rank subspaces of the graphical matrix space associated with a bipartite graph. Our first result shows that the above characterization remains valid for a wide class of generalized rank functions, including e.g. the permanental rank. Our second result extends the characterization to bounded rank subspaces of the graphical alternating matrix space associated with a general graph.

Color-Dressed Generalized Biadjoint Scalar Amplitudes: Local Planarity
Published in SIGMA 20 (2024), 016, 44 pages • View Publication • BIB
The biadjoint scalar theory has cubic interactions and fields transforming in the biadjoint representation of ${\rm SU}(N)\times {\rm SU}\big({\tilde N}\big)$. Amplitudes are "color" decomposed in terms of partial amplitudes computed using Feynman diagrams which are simultaneously planar with respect to two orderings. In 2019, a generalization of biadjoint scalar amplitudes based on generalized Feynman diagrams (GFDs) was introduced. GFDs are collections of Feynman diagrams derived by incorporating an additional constraint of "local planarity" into the construction of the arrangements of metric trees in combinatorics. In this work, we propose a natural generalization of color orderings which leads to color-dressed amplitudes. A generalized color ordering (GCO) is defined as a collection of standard color orderings that is induced, in a precise sense, from an arrangement of projective lines on $\mathbb{RP}^2$. We present results for $n\leq 9$ generalized color orderings and GFDs, uncovering new phenomena in each case. We discover generalized decoupling identities and propose a definition of the "colorless" generalized scalar amplitude. We also propose a notion of GCOs for arbitrary $\mathbb{RP}^{k-1}$, discuss some of their properties, and comment on their GFDs. In a companion paper, we explore the definition of partial amplitudes using CEGM integral formulas.

Counting compatible indexing systems for $C_{p^n}$
Published • View Publication • BIB
We count the number of compatible pairs of indexing systems for the cyclic group $C_{p^n}$. Building on work of Balchin--Barnes--Roitzheim, we show that this sequence of natural numbers is another family of Fuss--Catalan numbers. We count this two different ways: showing how the conditions of compatibility give natural recursive formulas for the number of admissible sets and using an enumeration of ways to extend indexing systems by conceptually simpler pieces.
