Let $G=(V,E)$ be a locally finite graph. Firstly, using calculus of variations, including a direct method of variation and the mountain-pass theory, we get sequences of solutions to several local equations on $G$ (the Schrödinger equation, the mean field equation, and the Yamabe equation). Secondly, we derive uniform estimates for those local solution sequences. Finally, we obtain global solutions by extracting convergent sequence of solutions. Our method can be described as a variational method from local to global.

Inspired by works of Castéras (Pacific J. Math., 2015), Li-Zhu (Calc. Var., 2019) and Sun-Zhu (Calc. Var., 2020), we propose a heat flow for the mean field equation on a connected finite graph $G=(V,E)$. Namely $$ \left\{\begin{array}{lll} \partial_tφ(u)=Δu-Q+ρ\frac{e^u}{\int_Ve^udμ}\\[1.5ex] u(\cdot,0)=u_0, \end{array}\right. $$ where $Δ$ is the standard graph Laplacian, $ρ$ is a real number, $Q:V\rightarrow\mathbb{R}$ is a function satisfying $\int_VQdμ=ρ$, and $φ:\mathbb{R}\rightarrow\mathbb{R}$ is one of certain smooth functions including $φ(s)=e^s$. We prove that for any initial data $u_0$ and any $ρ\in\mathbb{R}$, there exists a unique solution $u:V\times[0,+\infty)\rightarrow\mathbb{R}$ of the above heat flow; moreover, $u(x,t)$ converges to some function $u_\infty:V\rightarrow\mathbb{R}$ uniformly in $x\in V$ as $t\rightarrow+\infty$, and $u_\infty$ is a solution of the mean field equation $$Δu_\infty-Q+ρ\frac{e^{u_\infty}}{\int_Ve^{u_\infty}dμ}=0.$$ Though $G$ is a finite graph, this result is still unexpected, even in the special case $Q\equiv 0$. Our approach reads as follows: the short time existence of the heat flow follows from the ODE theory; various integral estimates give its long time existence; moreover we establish a Lojasiewicz-Simon type inequality and use it to conclude the convergence of the heat flow.
On Ledin and Brousseau's summation problems
We develop a recursive scheme, as well as polynomial forms (polynomials in $n$ of degree $m$), for the evaluation of Ledin and Brousseau's Fibonacci sums of the form $S(m,n,r)=\sum_{k=1}^nk^mF_{k + r}$, $T(m,n,r)=\sum_{k=1}^nk^mL_{k + r}$ for non-negative integers $m$ and $n$ and arbitrary integer $r$; $F_j$ and $L_j$ being the $j^{th}$ Fibonacci and Lucas numbers. We also extend the study to a general second order sequence by establishing a recursive procedure to determine $W(m,n,r;a,b,p,q)=\sum_{k=1}^nk^mw_{k+r}$ where $(w_j(a,b;p,q))$ is the Horadam sequence defined by $w_0 = a,\,w_1 = b;\,w_j = pw_{j - 1} - qw_{j - 2}\, (j \ge 2);$ where $a$, $b$, $p$ and $q$ are arbitrary complex numbers, with $p\ne 0$ and $q\ne 0$. An explicit polynomial form for $W(m,n,r;a,b,1,q)$ and more generally for the sum $\mathcal W(m,n,h,r;a,b,p,q) = \sum_{k = 1}^n {V_h^{- k}k^m w_{hk + r}}$, where $(V_j(p,q))=(w_j(2,p;p,q))$, is established. Finally a polynomial form is established for a Ledin-Brousseau sum involving Horadam numbers with subscripts in arithmetic progression.
Biased multilinear maps of abelian groups
We adapt the theory of partition rank and analytic rank to the category of abelian groups. If $A_1, \dots, A_k$ are finite abelian groups and $φ: A_1 \times \cdots \times A_k \to \mathbf{T}$ is a multilinear map, where $\mathbf{T} = \mathbf{R}/\mathbf{Z}$, the bias of $φ$ is defined to be the average value of $\exp(i 2 πφ)$. If the bias of $φ$ is bounded away from zero we show that $φ$ is the sum of boundedly many multilinear maps each of which factors through the standard multiplication map of $\mathbf{Z}/q\mathbf{Z}$ for some bounded prime power $q$. Relatedly, if $F : A_1 \times \cdots \times A_{k-1} \to B$ is a multilinear map such that $\mathbf{P}(F = 0)$ is bounded away from zero, we show that $F$ is the sum of boundedly many multilinear functions of a particular form. These structure theorems generalize work of several authors in the elementary abelian case to the arbitrary abelian case. The set of all possible biases is also investigated.
Persistent homology method to detect block structures in weighted networks
Unravelling the block structure of a network is critical for studying macroscopic features and community-level dynamics. The weighted stochastic block model (WSBM), a variation of the traditional stochastic block model, is designed for weighted networks, but it is not always optimal. We introduce a novel topological method to study the block structure of weighted networks by comparing their persistence diagrams. We found persistence diagrams of networks with different block structures show distinct features, sufficient to distinguish. Moreover, the overall characteristics are preserved even with more stochastic examples or modified hyperparameters. Finally, when random graphs whose latent block structure is unknown are tested, results from persistence diagram analysis are consistent with their weighted stochastic block model. Although this topological method cannot completely replace the original WSBM method for some reasons, it is worth to be investigated further.
Reducing Linear Hadwiger's Conjecture to Coloring Small Graphs

In 1943, Hadwiger conjectured that every graph with no $K_t$ minor is $(t-1)$-colorable for every $t\ge 1$. In the 1980s, Kostochka and Thomason independently proved that every graph with no $K_t$ minor has average degree $O(t\sqrt{\log t})$ and hence is $O(t\sqrt{\log t})$-colorable. Recently, Norin, Song and the second author showed that every graph with no $K_t$ minor is $O(t(\log t)^β)$-colorable for every $β> 1/4$, making the first improvement on the order of magnitude of the $O(t\sqrt{\log t})$ bound. The first main result of this paper is that every graph with no $K_t$ minor is $O(t\log\log t)$-colorable.
This is a corollary of our main technical result that the chromatic number of a $K_t$-minor-free graph is bounded by $O(t(1+f(G,t)))$ where $f(G,t)$ is the maximum of $\frac{χ(H)}{a}$ over all $a\ge \frac{t}{\sqrt{\log t}}$ and $K_a$-minor-free subgraphs $H$ of $G$ that are small (i.e. $O(a\log^4 a)$ vertices). This has a number of interesting corollaries. First as mentioned, using the current best-known bounds on coloring small $K_t$-minor-free graphs, we show that $K_t$-minor-free graphs are $O(t\log\log t)$-colorable. Second, it shows that proving Linear Hadwiger's Conjecture (that $K_t$-minor-free graphs are $O(t)$-colorable) reduces to proving it for small graphs. Third, we prove that $K_t$-minor-free graphs with clique number at most $\sqrt{\log t}/ (\log \log t)^2$ are $O(t)$-colorable. This implies our final corollary that Linear Hadwiger's Conjecture holds for $K_r$-free graphs for every fixed $r$.
One key to proving the main theorem is a new standalone result that every $K_t$-minor-free graph of average degree $d=Ω(t)$ has a subgraph on $O(t \log^3 t)$ vertices with average degree $Ω(d)$.
Separating topological recurrence from measurable recurrence: exposition and extension of Kriz's example
We prove that for every infinite set $E\subset \mathbb Z$, there is a set $S\subset E-E$ which is a set of topological recurrence and not a set of measurable recurrence. This extends a result of Igor Kriz, proving that there is a set of topological recurrence which is not a set of measurable recurrence. Our construction follows Kriz's closely, and this paper can be considered an exposition of the original argument.
Smith Normal Form and the Generalized Spectral Characterization of Graphs

Spectral characterization of graphs is an important topic in spectral graph theory, which has received a lot of attention from researchers in recent years. It is generally very hard to show a given graph to be determined by its spectrum. Recently, Wang [10] gave a simple arithmetic condition for graphs being determined by their generalized spectra. Let $G$ be a graph with adjacency matrix $A$ on $n$ vertices, and $W=[e,Ae,\ldots,A^{n-1}e]$ ($e$ is the all-one vector) be the walk-matrix of $G$. A theorem of Wang [10] states that if $2^{-\lfloor n/2\rfloor}\det W$ (which is always an integer) is odd and square-free, then $G$ is determined by the generalized spectrum. In this paper, we find a new and short route which leads to a stronger version of the above theorem. The result is achieved by using the Smith Normal Form of the walk-matrix of $G$. The proposed method gives a new insight in dealing with the problem of generalized spectral characterization of graphs.

In this paper, we classify all commutative weakly distance-regular digraphs of girth $g$ and one type of arcs under the assumption that $p_{(1,g-1),(1,g-1)}^{(2,g-2)}\geq k_{1,g-1}-2$. In consequence, we recover [13, Theorem 1.1] as a special case of our result.

A Bier sphere $Bier(K) = K\ast_ΔK^\circ$, defined as the deleted join of a simplicial complex and its Alexander dual $K^\circ$, is a purely combinatorial object (abstract simplicial complex). Here we study a hidden geometry of Bier spheres by describing their natural geometric realizations, compute their volume, describe an effective criterion for their polytopality, and associate to $K$ a natural fan $Fan(K)$, related to the Braid fan. Along the way we establish a connection of Bier spheres of maximal volume with recent generalizations of the classical Van Kampen-Flores theorem and clarify the role of Bier spheres in the theory of generalized permutohedra.

A vertex coloring is called distinguishing if the identity is the only automorphism that can preserve it. The distinguishing threshold $θ(G)$ of a graph $G$ is the minimum number of colors $k$ required that any arbitrary $k$-coloring of $G$ is distinguishing. In this paper, we calculate the distinguishing threshold of a Cartesian product graph. Moreover, we calculate the number of non-equivalent distinguishing colorings of grids.

In this paper, we consider the problem of covering a plane region with unit discs. We present an improved upper bound and the first nontrivial lower bound on the number of discs needed for such a covering, depending on the area and perimeter of the region. We provide algorithms for efficient covering of convex polygonal regions using unit discs. We show that the computational complexity of the algorithms is pseudo-polynomial in the size of the input and the output. We also show that these algorithms provide a constant factor approximation of the optimal covering of the region.
Biobjective Optimization Problems on Matroids with Binary Costs

Like most multiobjective combinatorial optimization problems, biobjective optimization problems on matroids are in general intractable and their corresponding decision problems are in general NP-hard. In this paper, we consider biobjective optimization problems on matroids where one of the objective functions is restricted to binary cost coefficients. We show that in this case the problem has a connected efficient set with respect to a natural definition of a neighborhood structure and hence, can be solved efficiently using a neighborhood search approach. This is, to the best of our knowledge, the first non-trivial problem on matroids where connectedness of the efficient set can be established.
The theoretical results are validated by numerical experiments with biobjective minimum spanning tree problems (graphic matroids) and with biobjective knapsack problems with a cardinality constraint (uniform matroids). In the context of the minimum spanning tree problem, coloring all edges with cost 0 green and all edges with cost 1 red leads to an equivalent problem where we want to simultaneously minimize one general objective and the number of red edges (which defines the second objective) in a Pareto sense.

In this paper, we study the nonlinear Schrödinger equation $ -Δu+V(x)u=f(x,u) $on the lattice graph $ \mathbb{Z}^{N}$. Using the Nehari method, we prove that when $f$ satisfies some growth conditions and the potential function $V$ is periodic or bounded, the above equation admits a ground state solution. Moreover, we extend our results from $\mathbb{Z}^{N}$ to quasi-transitive graphs.

We study the intersection of tropical psi-classes on tropical heavy/light Hassett spaces, generalising a result of Kerber--Markwig for tropical moduli spaces of rational stable curves with distinct marked points. Our computation reveals that the weight of a maximal cone in an intersection has a combinatorial intepretation in terms of the underlying tropical curve and it is always nonnegative. In particular, our result specialises to that, in top dimension, the tropical intersection product coincides with its classical counterpart.

Integer partitions express the different ways that a positive integer may be written as a sum of positive integers. Here we explore the analytic properties of a new polynomial $f_λ(x)$ that we call the partition polynomial for the partition $λ$, with the aim to learn new properties of partitions. We prove a recursive formula for the derivatives of $f_λ(x)$ involving Stirling numbers of the second kind, show that the set of integrals from 0 to 1 of a normalized version of $f_λ(x)$ is dense in $[0,1/2]$, pose a few open questions, and formulate a conjecture relating the integral to the length of the partition. We also provide specific examples throughout to support our speculation that an in-depth analysis of partition polynomials could further strengthen our understanding of partitions.

The reconfiguration graph for the $k$-colourings of a graph $G$, denoted $R_{k}(G)$, is the graph whose vertices are the $k$-colourings of $G$ and two colourings are joined by an edge if they differ in colour on exactly one vertex. For any $k$-colourable $P_4$-free graph $G$, Bonamy and Bousquet proved that $R_{k+1}(G)$ is connected. In this short note, we complete the classification of the connectedness of $R_{k+1}(G)$ for a $k$-colourable graph $G$ excluding a fixed path, by constructing a $7$-chromatic $2K_2$-free (and hence $P_5$-free) graph admitting a frozen $8$-colouring. This settles a question of the second author.
Threshold Ramsey multiplicity for odd cycles

The Ramsey number $r(H)$ of a graph $H$ is the minimum $n$ such that any two-coloring of the edges of the complete graph $K_n$ contains a monochromatic copy of $H$. The threshold Ramsey multiplicity $m(H)$ is then the minimum number of monochromatic copies of $H$ taken over all two-edge-colorings of $K_{r(H)}$. The study of this concept was first proposed by Harary and Prins almost fifty years ago. In a companion paper, the authors have shown that there is a positive constant $c$ such that the threshold Ramsey multiplicity for a path or even cycle with $k$ vertices is at least $(ck)^k$, which is tight up to the value of $c$. Here, using different methods, we show that the same result also holds for odd cycles with $k$ vertices.
Threshold Ramsey multiplicity for paths and even cycles

The Ramsey number $r(H)$ of a graph $H$ is the minimum integer $n$ such that any two-coloring of the edges of the complete graph $K_n$ contains a monochromatic copy of $H$. While this definition only asks for a single monochromatic copy of $H$, it is often the case that every two-edge-coloring of the complete graph on $r(H)$ vertices contains many monochromatic copies of $H$. The minimum number of such copies over all two-colorings of $K_{r(H)}$ will be referred to as the threshold Ramsey multiplicity of $H$. Addressing a problem of Harary and Prins, who were the first to systematically study this quantity, we show that there is a positive constant $c$ such that the threshold Ramsey multiplicity of a path or an even cycle on $k$ vertices is at least $(ck)^k$. This bound is tight up to the constant $c$. We prove a similar result for odd cycles in a companion paper.
The Increasing Families of Sets Generated by Self-dual Clutters
Using the KKS inequalities, we establish bounds on the numbers of $k$-sets in the increasing families generated by self-dual clutters (i.e., clutters $\mathcal{A}$ that coincide with the blockers $\mathfrak{B}(\mathcal{A})$) on their ground set of even cardinality.
