Next-to$^k$ leading log expansions by chord diagrams

Green functions in a quantum field theory can be expanded as bivariate series in the coupling and a scale parameter. The leading logs are given by the main diagonal of this expansion, i.e. the subseries where the coupling and the scale parameter appear to the same power; then the next-to leading logs are listed by the next diagonal of the expansion, where the power of the coupling is incremented by one, and so on. We give a general method for deriving explicit formulas and asymptotic estimates for any next-to$^k$ leading-log expansion for a large class of single scale Green functions. These Green functions are solutions to Dyson-Schwinger equations that are known by previous work to be expressible in terms of chord diagrams. We look in detail at the Green function for the fermion propagator in massless Yukawa theory as one example, and the Green function of the photon propagator in quantum electrodynamics as a second example, as well as giving general theorems. Our methods are combinatorial, but the consequences are physical, giving information on which terms dominate and on the dichotomy between gauge theories and other quantum field theories.
Sharp thresholds for nonlinear Hamiltonian cycles in hypergraphs

For positive integers $r > \ell$, an $r$-uniform hypergraph is called an $\ell$-cycle if there exists a cyclic ordering of its vertices such that each of its edges consists of $r$ consecutive vertices, and such that every pair of consecutive edges (in the natural ordering of the edges) intersect in precisely $\ell$ vertices. Such cycles are said to be linear when $\ell = 1$, and nonlinear when $\ell > 1$. We determine the sharp threshold for nonlinear Hamiltonian cycles and show that for all $r > \ell > 1$, the threshold $p^*_{r, \ell} (n)$ for the appearance of a Hamiltonian $\ell$-cycle in the random $r$-uniform hypergraph on $n$ vertices is sharp and is $p^*_{r, \ell} (n) = λ(r,\ell) (\frac{\mathrm{e}}{n})^{r - \ell}$ for an explicitly specified function $λ$. This resolves several questions raised by Dudek and Frieze in 2011.
Small-Support Uncertainty Principles on $\mathbb{Z}/p$ over Finite Fields
We establish an uncertainty principle for functions $f: \mathbb{Z}/p \rightarrow \mathbb{F}_q$ with constant support (where $p \mid q-1$). In particular, we show that for any constant $S > 0$, functions $f: \mathbb{Z}/p \rightarrow \mathbb{F}_q$ for which $|\text{supp}\; {f}| = S$ must satisfy $|\text{supp}\; \hat{f}| = (1 - o(1))p$. The proof relies on an application of Szemeredi's theorem; the celebrated improvements by Gowers translate into slightly stronger statements permitting conclusions for functions possessing slowly growing support as a function of $p$.

We derive a formula expressing the joint distribution of the cyclic valley number and excedance number statistics over a fixed conjugacy class of the symmetric group in terms of Eulerian polynomials. Our proof uses a slight extension of Sun and Wang's cyclic valley-hopping action as well as a formula of Brenti. Along the way, we give a new proof for the $γ$-positivity of the excedance number distribution over any fixed conjugacy class along with a combinatorial interpretation of the $γ$-coefficients.
Voronoi conjecture for five-dimensional parallelohedra

We prove the Voronoi conjecture for five-dimensional parallelohedra. Namely, we show that if a convex five-dimensional polytope $P$ tiles $\mathbb R^5$ with translations, then $P$ is an affine image of the Dirichlet-Voronoi polytope for a five-dimensional lattice.
Our proof is based on an exhaustive combinatorial analysis of possible dual 3-cells and incident dual 4-cells encoding local structures around two-dimensional faces of five-dimensional parallelohedron $P$ and their edges aiming to prove existence of a free direction for $P$ paired with new properties established for parallelohedra (in any dimension) that have a free direction that guarantee the Voronoi conjecture for $P$.

In this paper we determine extensions of higher degree between indecomposable modules over gentle algebras. In particular, our results show how such extensions either eventually vanish or become periodic. We give a geometric interpretation of vanishing and periodicity of higher extensions in terms of the surface underlying the gentle algebra. For gentle algebras arising from triangulations of surfaces, we give an explicit basis of higher extension spaces between indecomposable modules.

For a graph $H$ and an integer $k\ge1$, the $k$-color Ramsey number $R_k(H)$ is the least integer $N$ such that every $k$-coloring of the edges of the complete graph $K_N$ contains a monochromatic copy of $H$. Let $C_m$ denote the cycle on $m\ge4$ vertices and let $Θ_m$ denote the family of graphs obtained from $C_m$ by adding an additional edge joining two non-consecutive vertices. Unlike Ramsey number of odd cycles, little is known about the general behavior of $R_k(C_{2n})$ except that $R_k(C_{2n})\ge (n-1)k+n+k-1$ for all $k\ge2$ and $n\ge2$. In this paper, we study Ramsey number of even cycles with chords under Gallai colorings, where a Gallai coloring is a coloring of the edges of a complete graph without rainbow triangles. For an integer $k\geq 1$, the Gallai-Ramsey number $GR_k(H)$ of a graph $H$ is the least positive integer $N$ such that every Gallai $k$-coloring of the complete graph $K_N$ contains a monochromatic copy of $H$. We prove that $GR_k(Θ_{2n})=(n-1)k+n+1$ for all $k\geq 2$ and $n\geq 3$. This implies that $GR_k(C_{2n})=(n-1)k+n+1$ all $k\geq 2$ and $n\geq 3$. Our result yields a unified proof for the Gallai-Ramsey number of all even cycles on at least four vertices.
Brouwer's conjecture holds asymptotically almost surely

We show that for a sequence of random graphs Brouwer's conjecture holds true with probability tending to one as the number of vertices tends to infinity. Surprisingly, it was found that a similar statement holds true for weighted graphs with possible negative weights as well. For graphs with a fixed number of vertices, the result implies that there are constants $C>0$ and $n_{0}$ such that if $n\geq n_{0}$ then among all $2^{n \choose 2}$ graphs with $n$ vertices, at least $\left(1-\exp\left(-Cn\right)\right)2^{n \choose 2}$ graphs satisfy Brouwer's conjecture.
Resistance distance-based graph invariants and spanning trees of graphs derived from the strong product of $P_2$ and $C_n$
Let $G_n$ be a graph obtained by the strong product of $P_2$ and $C_n$, where $n\geqslant3$. In this paper, explicit expressions for the Kirchhoff index, multiplicative degree-Kirchhoff index and number of spanning trees of $G_n$ are determined, respectively. It is surprising to find that the Kirchhoff (resp. multiplicative degree-Kirchhoff) index of $G_n$ is almost one-sixth of its Wiener (resp. Gutman) index. Moreover, let $\mathcal{G}^r_n$ be the set of subgraphs obtained from $G_n$ by deleting any $r$ vertical edges of $G_n$, where $0\leqslant r\leqslant n$. Explicit formulas for the Kirchhoff index and the number of spanning trees for any graph $G^r_n\in \mathcal{G}^r_{n}$ are completely established, respectively. Finally, it is interesting to see that the Kirchhoff index of $G^r_n$ is almost one-sixth of its Wiener index.

The extended Schur functions form a basis of quasisymmetric functions that contains the Schur functions. We provide a representation-theoretic interpretation of this basis by constructing $0$-Hecke modules whose quasisymmetric characteristics are the extended Schur functions. We further prove these modules are indecomposable.

Symmetric multisets of permutations

The following long-standing problem in combinatorics was first posed in 1993 by Gessel and Reutenauer. For which multisubsets $B$ of the symmetric group $\fS_n$ is the quasisymmetric function $$Q(B) = \sum_{π\in B}F_{\Des(π), n}$$ a symmetric function? Here $\Des(π)$ is the descent set of $π$ and $F_{\Des(π), n}$ is Gessel's fundamental basis for the vector space of quasisymmetric functions. The purpose of this paper is to provide a useful characterization of these multisets. Using this characterization we prove a conjecture of Elizalde and Roichman. Two other corollaries are also given. The first is a short new proof that conjugacy classes are symmetric sets, a well known result first proved by Gessel and Reutenauer. Our second corollary is a unified explanation that both left and right multiplication of symmetric multisets, by inverse $J$-classes, is symmetric. The case of right multiplication was first proved by Elizalde and Roichman.
Rearrangement operations on unrooted phylogenetic networks

Rearrangement operations transform a phylogenetic tree into another one and hence induce a metric on the space of phylogenetic trees. Popular operations for unrooted phylogenetic trees are NNI (nearest neighbour interchange), SPR (subtree prune and regraft), and TBR (tree bisection and reconnection). Recently, these operations have been extended to unrooted phylogenetic networks, which are generalisations of phylogenetic trees that can model reticulated evolutionary relationships. Here, we study global and local properties of spaces of phylogenetic networks under these three operations. In particular, we prove connectedness and asymptotic bounds on the diameters of spaces of different classes of phylogenetic networks, including tree-based and level-k networks. We also examine the behaviour of shortest TBR-sequence between two phylogenetic networks in a class, and whether the TBR-distance changes if intermediate networks from other classes are allowed: for example, the space of phylogenetic trees is an isometric subgraph of the space of phylogenetic networks under TBR. Lastly, we show that computing the TBR-distance and the PR-distance of two phylogenetic networks is NP-hard.
Two-dimensional partial cubes

We investigate the structure of two-dimensional partial cubes, i.e., of isometric subgraphs of hypercubes whose vertex set defines a set family of VC-dimension at most 2. Equivalently, those are the partial cubes which are not contractible to the 3-cube $Q_3$ (here contraction means contracting the edges corresponding to the same coordinate of the hypercube). We show that our graphs can be obtained from two types of combinatorial cells (gated cycles and gated full subdivisions of complete graphs) via amalgams. The cell structure of two-dimensional partial cubes enables us to establish a variety of results. In particular, we prove that all partial cubes of VC-dimension 2 can be extended to ample aka lopsided partial cubes of VC-dimension 2, yielding that the set families defined by such graphs satisfy the sample compression conjecture by Littlestone and Warmuth (1986). Furthermore we point out relations to tope graphs of COMs of low rank and region graphs of pseudoline arrangements.

In this paper we present an algorithm for finding a minimum dominator coloring of orientations of paths. To date this is the first algorithm for dominator colorings of digraphs in any capacity. We prove that the algorithm always provides a minimum dominator coloring of an oriented path and show that it runs in $\mathcal{O}(n)$ time. The algorithm is available at https://github.com/cat-astrophic/MDC-orientations_of_paths/.
Three product formulas for ratios of tiling counts of hexagons with collinear holes
Rosengren found an explicit formula for a certain weighted enumeration of lozenge tilings of a hexagon with an arbitrary triangular hole. He pointed out that a certain ratio corresponding to two such regions has a nice product formula. In this paper, we generalize this to hexagons with arbitrary collinear holes. It turns out that, by using same approach, we can also generalize Ciucu's work on the number and the number of centrally symmetric tilings of a hexagon with a fern removed from its center. This proves a recent conjecture of Ciucu.
A short proof of two shuffling theorems for tilings and a weighted generalization

Recently, Lai and Rohatgi discovered a shuffling theorem for lozenge tilings of doubly-dented hexagons, which generalized the earlier work of Ciucu. Later, Lai proved an analogous theorem for centrally symmetric tilings, which generalized some other previous work of Ciucu. In this paper, we give a unified proof of these two shuffling theorems, which also covers the weighted case. Unlike the original proofs, our arguments do not use the graphical condensation method but instead rely on a well-known tiling enumeration formula due to Cohn, Larsen, and Propp. Fulmek independently found a similar proof of Lai and Rohatgi's original shuffling theorem. Our proof also gives a combinatorial explanation for Ciucu's recent conjecture relating the total number and the number of centrally symmetric lozenge tilings.
Translation hyperovals and $\mathbb{F}_2$-linear sets of pseudoregulus type
In this paper, we study translation hyperovals in PG$(2,q^k)$. The main result of this paper characterises the point sets defined by translation hyperovals in the André/Bruck-Bose representation. We show that the affine point sets of translation hyperovals in PG$(2,q^k)$ are precisely those that have a scattered $\mathbb{F}_2$-linear set of pseudoregulus type in PG$(2k-1,q)$ as set of directions. This correspondence is used to generalise the results of Barwick and Jackson who provided a characterisation for translation hyperovals in PG$(2,q^2)$.
A Graph-theoretic Method to Define any Boolean Operation on Partitions

The lattice operations of join and meet were defined for set partitions in the nineteenth century, but no new logical operations on partitions were defined and studied during the twentieth century. Yet there is a simple and natural graph-theoretic method presented here to define any n-ary Boolean operation on partitions. An equivalent closure-theoretic method is also defined. In closing, the question is addressed of why it took so long for all Boolean operations to be defined for partitions.

A reductive characterization of arc-transitive circulants was given independently by Kovacs in 2004 and the first author in 2005. In this paper, we give an explicit characterization of arc-transitive circulants and their automorphism groups. Based on this, we give a proof of the fact that arc-transitive circulants are all CI-digraphs.
