The associative operad is the quotient of the magmatic operad by the operad congruence identifying the two binary trees of degree $2$. We introduce here a generalization of the associative operad depending on a nonnegative integer $d$, called $d$-comb associative operad, as the quotient of the magmatic operad by the operad congruence identifying the left and the right comb binary trees of degree $d$. We study the case $d = 3$ and provide an orientation of its space of relations by using rewrite systems on trees and the Buchberger algorithm for operads to obtain a convergent rewrite system.
The number of multiplicative Sidon sets of integers

A set $S$ of natural numbers is multiplicative Sidon if the products of all pairs in $S$ are distinct. Erdős in 1938 studied the maximum size of a multiplicative Sidon subset of $\{1,\ldots, n\}$, which was later determined up to the lower order term: $π(n)+Θ(\frac{n^{3/4}}{(\log n)^{3/2}})$. We show that the number of multiplicative Sidon subsets of $\{1,\ldots, n\}$ is $T(n)\cdot 2^{Θ(\frac{n^{3/4}}{(\log n)^{3/2}})}$ for a certain function $T(n)\approx 2^{1.815π(n)}$ which we specify. This is a rare example in which the order of magnitude of the lower order term in the exponent is determined. It resolves the enumeration problem for multiplicative Sidon sets initiated by Cameron and Erdős in the 80s.
We also investigate its extension for generalised multiplicative Sidon sets. Denote by $S_k$, $k\ge 2$, the number of multiplicative $k$-Sidon subsets of $\{1,\ldots, n\}$. We show that $S_k(n)=(β_k+o(1))^{π(n)}$ for some $β_k$ we define explicitly. Our proof is elementary.

We show that all $q$-semimultiplicative sequences are asymptotically orthogonal to the Möbius function, thus proving the Sarnak conjecture for this class of sequences. This generalises analogous results for the sum-of-digits function and other digital sequences which follow from previous work of Mauduit and Rivat.
Lower bound for the cost of connecting tree with given vertex degree sequence

The optimal connecting network problem generalizes many models of structure optimization known from the literature, including communication and transport network topology design, graph cut and graph clustering, structure identification from data, etc. For the case of connecting trees with the given sequence of vertex degrees, the cost of the optimal tree is shown to be bounded from below by the solution of a semidefinite optimization program with bilinear matrix constraints, which is reduced to the solution of a series of convex programs with linear matrix inequality constraints. The proposed lower bound estimate is used to construct several heuristic algorithms and to evaluate their quality on a variety of generated and real-life data sets.

Hovey introduced $A$-cordial labelings as a generalization of cordial and harmonious labelings \cite{Hovey}. If $A$ is an Abelian group, then a labeling $f \colon V (G) \rightarrow A$ of the vertices of some graph $G$ induces an edge labeling on $G$, the edge $uv$ receives the label $f (u) + f (v)$. A graph $G$ is $A$-cordial if there is a vertex-labeling such that (1) the vertex label classes differ in size by at most one and (2) the induced edge label classes differ in size by at most one. The problem of $A$-cordial labelings of graphs can be naturally extended for hypergraphs. It was shown that not every $2$-uniform hypertree (i.e., tree) admits a $Z_2\times Z_2$-cordial labeling \cite{Pechnik}. The situation changes if we consider $p$-uniform hypetrees for a bigger $p$. We prove that a $p$-uniform hypertree is $Z_2\times Z_2$-cordial for any $p>2$, and so is every path hypergraph in which all edges have size at least~3. The property is not valid universally in the class of hypergraphs of maximum degree~1, for which we provide a necessary and sufficient condition.
Counting Connected Graphs without Overlapping Cycles
The simple connected graphs may be classified by their cycle composition (number and lengths of cycles). This work derives the counting series of the simple connected graphs that have cycles of unrestricted number and length, but no overlapping cycles. Cycle pairs of these graphs of interest must not have common nodes or edges.
The recipe of counting these graphs is based on the counting series of the associated planted graphs, multisets of planted graphs, a recursive synthesis of enriched trees, and a generalized Otter's formula that maps the underlying rooted block graphs to the underlying block graphs.
A stronger connection between the Erdős-Burgess and Davenport constants

The Erdős-Burgess constant of a semigroup $S$ is the smallest positive integer $k$ such that any sequence over $S$ of length $k$ contains a nonempty subsequence whose elements multiply to an idempotent element of $S$. In the case where $S$ is the multiplicative semigroup of $\mathbb{Z}/n\mathbb{Z}$, we confirm a conjecture connecting the Erdős-Burgess constant of $S$ and the Davenport constant of $(\mathbb{Z}/n\mathbb{Z})^{\times}$ for $n$ with at most two prime factors. We also discuss the extension of our techniques to other rings.
Cyclic sieving, necklaces, and branching rules related to Thrall's problem

We show that the cyclic sieving phenomenon of Reiner--Stanton--White together with necklace generating functions arising from work of Klyachko offer a remarkably unified, direct, and largely bijective approach to a series of results due to Kraskiewicz--Weyman, Stembridge, and Schocker related to the so-called higher Lie modules and branching rules for inclusions $ C_a \wr S_b \hookrightarrow S_{ab} $. Extending the approach gives monomial expansions for certain graded Frobenius series arising from a generalization of Thrall's problem.
The Capacity of Some Pólya String Models

We study random string-duplication systems, which we call Pólya string models. These are motivated by DNA storage in living organisms, and certain random mutation processes that affect their genome. Unlike previous works that study the combinatorial capacity of string-duplication systems, or various string statistics, this work provides exact capacity or bounds on it, for several probabilistic models. In particular, we study the capacity of noisy string-duplication systems, including the tandem-duplication, end-duplication, and interspersed-duplication systems. Interesting connections are drawn between some systems and the signature of random permutations, as well as to the beta distribution common in population genetics.

We define a generalization of the Mullineux involution on multipartitions using the theory of crystals for higher level Fock spaces. Our generalized Mullineux involution turns up in representation theory via two important derived functors on cyclotomic Cherednik category $\mathcal{O}$: Losev's "$κ=0$" wall-crossing, and the Ringel duality.
Clock theorems for triangulated surfaces
We investigate triangulations of the two-dimensional sphere and torus with the faces properly colored white and black. We focus on matchings between white triangles and incident vertices. On the torus our objects are perfect pairings, whereas on the sphere this is only true after removing one triangle and its vertices. In the latter case, such matchings (first studied by Tutte) extend the notion of state in Kauffman's formal knot theory and we show that his Clock Theorem, in its form due to Gilmer and Litherland, also extends: the set of matchings naturally forms a distributive lattice. Here the role of state transposition is played by a simple local operation about black triangles. By contrast, on the torus, the analogous state transition graph is usually disconnected: some of its components still form distributive lattices with global maxima and minima, while other components contain directed cycles and are without local extrema.
Skew RSK and the switching on ballot tableau pairs
In arXiv:1808.06095 we have introduced the Knuth class of the word recording a sequence of locations for repeated internal insertion operations in the Sagan-Stanley skew RSK correspondence, with no prescribed external insertion of new cells, to be a preserver for the $P$-tableau. As a consequence the Benkart-Sottile-Stroomer switching involution on ballot tableau pairs allows a realization as a recursive internal insertion procedure. This amounts to explain the various presentations of Littlewood-Richardson (LR) commuters and their coincidence predicted by Pak and Vallejo with contributions by Danilov and Koshevoi. In particular, the aforesaid presentation provides internal insertion as an alternative to Schützenberger- Lusztig involution (or evacuation) to constructing the Gelfand-Tsetlin pair in the Henriques-Kamnitzer $\mathfrak{gl}_n$-crystal commuter. In addition, the coincidence of LR commuters solves the Lecouvey-Lenart conjecture, recently further developed by Kumar-Torres, on bijections between the Kwon and Sundaram branching models.
Spanning tree packing, edge-connectivity and eigenvalues of graphs with given girth

Let $τ(G)$ and $κ'(G)$ denote the edge-connectivity and the spanning tree packing number of a graph $G$, respectively. Proving a conjecture initiated by Cioaba and Wong, Liu et al. in 2014 showed that for any simple graph $G$ with minimum degree $δ\ge 2k \ge 4$, if the second largest adjacency eigenvalue of $G$ satisfies $λ_2(G) < δ- \frac{2k-1}{δ+1}$, then $τ(G) \ge k$. Similar results involving the Laplacian eigenvalues and the signless Laplacian eigenvalues of $G$ are also obtained. In this paper, we find a function $f(δ, k, g)$ such that for every graph $G$ with minimum degree $δ\ge 2k \ge 4$ and girth $g \ge 3$, if its second largest adjacency eigenvalue satisfies $λ_2(G) < f(δ, k, g)$, then $τ(G) \ge k$. As $f(δ, k, 3) = δ- \frac{2k-1}{δ+1}$, this extends the above-mentioned result of Liu et al. Related results involving the girth of the graph, Laplacian eigenvalues and the signless Laplacian eigenvalues to describe $τ(G)$ and $κ'(G)$ are also obtained.
Polyhedral geometry for lecture hall partitions

Lecture hall partitions are a fundamental combinatorial structure which have been studied extensively over the past two decades. These objects have produced new results, as well as reinterpretations and generalizations of classicial results, which are of interest in combinatorial number theory, enumerative combinatorics, and convex geometry. In a recent survey of Savage \cite{Savage-LHP-Survey}, a wide variety of these results are nicely presented. However, since the publication of this survey, there have been many new developments related to the polyhedral geometry and Ehrhart theory arising from lecture hall partitions. Subsequently, in this survey article, we focus exclusively on the polyhedral geometric results in the theory of lecture hall partitions in an effort to showcase these new developments. In particular, we highlight results on lecture hall cones, lecture hall simplices, and lecture hall order polytopes. We conclude with an extensive list of open problems and conjectures in this area.

Recursive matrices are ubiquitous in combinatorics, which have been extensively studied. We focus on the study of the sums of $2\times 2$ minors of certain recursive matrices, the alternating sums of their $2\times 2$ minors, and the sums of their $2\times 2$ permanents. We obtain some combinatorial identities related to these sums, which generalized the work of Sun and Ma in [{\it Electron. J. Combin. 2014}] and [{\it European J. Combin. 2014}]. With the help of the computer algebra package {\tt HolonomicFunctions}, we further get some new identities involving Narayana polynomials.
On Bias and Rank
Given a hypersurface $X\subset \mathbb{P}^{N+1}_{\mathbb{C}}$ Dimca gave a proof showing that the cohomologies of X are the same as the projective space in a range determined by the dimension of the singular locus of X. We prove the analog of Dimca's result case when $\mathbb{C}$ is replaced with an algebraically closed field of finite characteristic and singular cohomology is replaced with $\ell$-adic étale cohomology. The Weil conjectures allow relating results about éatle cohomology to counting problems over a finite field. Thus by applying this result, we are able to get a relationship between the algebraic properties of certain polynomials and the size of their zero set.
The Manickam-Miklós-Singhi Parameter of Graphs and Degree Sequences
Let $G$ be a simple graph. Consider all weightings of the vertices of $G$ with real numbers whose total sum is nonnegative. How many edges of $G$ have endpoints with a nonnegative sum? We consider the minimum number of such edges over all such weightings as a graph parameter. Computing this parameter has been shown to be NP-hard but we give a polynomial algorithm to compute the minimum of this parameter over realizations of a given degree sequence. We also completely determine the minimum and maximum value of this parameter for regular graphs.

On Representations of Graphs as Two-Distance Sets

Let a \neq b be two positive scalars. A Euclidean representation of a simple graph G in R^r is a mapping of the nodes of G into points in R^r such that the squared Euclidean distance between any two points is a if the corresponding nodes are adjacent and b otherwise. A Euclidean representation is spherical if the points lie on an (r-1)-sphere, and is J-spherical if this sphere has radius 1 and a=2 < b. Let dim_E(G), dim_S(G) and dim_J(G) denote, respectively, the smallest dimension r for which G admits a Euclidean, spherical and J-spherical representation.
In this paper, we extend and simplify the results of Roy[18] and Nozaki and shinohara[17] by deriving exact simple formulas for dim_E(G) and dim_S(G) in terms of the eigenvalues of V^TAV, where A is the adjacency matrix of G and V is the matrix whose columns form an orthonormal basis for the orthogonal complement of the vector of all 1's.
We also extend and simplify the results of Musin [16] by deriving explicit formulas for determining the J-spherical representation of G and for determining dim_J(G)in terms of the largest eigenvalue of \bar{A}, the adjacency matrix of the complement graph \bar{G}. As a byproduct, we obtain several related results and in particular we answer a question raised by Musin in [16].
