A note on matchings in abelian groups
The question of finding sets of monomials which are removable from a generic homogeneous polynomial through a linear change in its variables was raised by E. K. Wakeford in 1916. This linear algebra question motivated J. Losonczy to define the concept of acyclic matchings in Z n, and later in abelian groups. In this paper, we give a constructive approach to study the acyclic matchings in cyclic groups. We also introduce the notion of weakly matched subsets and investigate its relation with matchings in abelian groups.

Quasi-transversal in Latin Squares
In this paper, we first present the relation between a transversal in a Latin square with some concepts in its Latin square graph, and give an equivalent condition for a Latin square has an orthogonal mate. The most famous open problem involving Combinatorics is to find maximum number of disjoint transversals in a Latin square. So finding some family of decomposable Latin squares into disjoint transversals is our next aim. In the next section, we give an equivalent statement of a conjecture which has been attributed to Brualdi, Stein and Ryser by the concept of quasi-transversal. Finally, we prove the truth of the Rodney's conjecture for a family of graphs.

Towards the Kohayakawa--Kreuter conjecture on asymmetric Ramsey properties
Published • View Publication • BIB
For fixed graphs $F_1,\dotsc,F_r$, we prove an upper bound on the threshold function for the property that $G(n,p) \to (F_1,\dotsc,F_r)$. This establishes the $1$-statement of a conjecture of Kohayakawa and Kreuter.
Extended Weyl groups, Hurwitz transitivity and weighted projective lines I: Generalities and the tubular case
We start the systematic study of extended Weyl groups, and continue the combinatorial description of thick subcategories in hereditary categories started by Ingalls-Thomas, Igusa-Schiffler-Thomas and Krause. We show that for a weighted projective line $\mathbb{X}$ there exists an order preserving bijection between the thick subcategories of $\mathrm{coh}(\mathbb{X})$ generated by an exceptional sequence and a subposet of the interval poset of a Coxeter transformation $c$ in the Weyl group of a simply-laced extended root system if the Hurwitz action is transitive on the reduced reflection factorizations of $c$ that generate the Weyl group. By using combinatorial and group theoretical tools we show that this assumption on the transitivity of the Hurwitz action is fulfilled for a weighted projective line $\mathbb{X}$ of tubular type.

The action of a Coxeter element on an affine root system
Published • View Publication • BIB
The characterization of orbits of roots under the action of a Coxeter element is a fundamental tool in the study of finite root systems and their reflection groups. This paper develops the analogous tool in the affine setting, adding detail and uniformity to a result of Dlab and Ringel.

Inequalities for the overpartition function
Published • View Publication • BIB
Let $\overline{p}(n)$ denote the overpartition funtion. Engel showed that for $n\geq2$, $\overline{p}(n)$ satisfied the Turán inequalities, that is, $\overline{p}(n)^2-\overline{p}(n-1)\overline{p}(n+1)>0$ for $n\geq2$. In this paper, we prove several inequalities for $\overline{p}(n)$. Moreover, motivated by the work of Chen, Jia and Wang, we find that the higher order Turán inequalities of $\overline{p}(n)$ can also be determined.

7-Connected Graphs are 4-Ordered
Published in J. Combin. Theory Ser. B. 141 (2020), 115-135 • View Publication • BIB
A graph $G$ is $k$-ordered if for any distinct vertices $v_1, v_2, \ldots, v_k \in V(G)$, it has a cycle through $v_1, v_2, \ldots, v_k$ in order. Let $f(k)$ denote the minimum integer so that every $f(k)$-connected graph is $k$-ordered. The first non-trivial case of determining $f(k)$ is when $k=4$, where the previously best known bounds are $7 \leq f(4) \leq 40$. We prove that in fact $f(4)=7$.

Generating Graphs with Symmetry
Published • View Publication • BIB
In the field of complex networks and graph theory, new results are typically tested on graphs generated by a variety of algorithms such as the Erdős-Rényi model or the Barabási-Albert model. Unfortunately, most graph generating algorithms do not typically create graphs with symmetries, which have been shown to have an important role on the network dynamics. Here, we present an algorithm to generate graphs with prescribed symmetries. The algorithm can also be used to generate graphs with a prescribed equitable partition but possibly without any symmetry. We also use our graph generator to examine the recently raised question about the relation between the orbits of the automorphism group and a graph's minimal equitable partition.
Forbidden cycles in metrically homogeneous graphs
Published in European Journal of Combinatorics (132), 2026 European Journal of Combinatorics (132), 2026 European Journal of Combinatorics (132), 2026 • View Publication • BIB
In a recent paper by a superset of the authors it was proved that for every primitive 3-constrained space $Γ$ of finite diameter $δ$ from Cherlin's catalogue of metrically homogeneous graphs, there exists a finite family $\mathcal F$ of $\{1,\ldots, δ\}$-edge-labelled cycles such that a $\{1,\ldots, δ\}$-edge-labelled graph is a subgraph of $Γ$ if and only if it contains no homomorphic images of cycles from $\mathcal F$. However, the cycles in the families $\mathcal F$ were not described explicitly as it was not necessary for the analysis of Ramsey expansions and the extension property for partial automorphisms. This paper fills this gap by providing an explicit description of the cycles in the families $\mathcal F$, heavily using the previous result in the process. Additionally, we explore the potential applications of this result, such as interpreting the graphs as semigroup-valued metric spaces or homogenizations of $ω$-categorical $\{1,δ\}$-edge-labelled graphs.

Unified characterizations of minuscule Kac--Moody representations built from colored posets
Published in Electronic Journal of Combinatorics 27(2) (2020) #P2.42 • View Publication • BIB
R.M. Green described structural properties that ``doubly infinite'' colored posets should possess so that they can be used to construct representations of most affine Kac--Moody algebras. These representations are analogs of the minuscule representations of the semisimple Lie algebras, and his posets (``full heaps'') are analogs of the finite minuscule posets. Here only simply laced Kac--Moody algebras are considered. Working with their derived subalgebras, we provide a converse to Green's theorem. Smaller collections of colored structural properties are also shown to be necessary and sufficient for such poset-built representations to be produced for smaller subalgebras, especially the ``Borel derived'' subalgebra. These developments lead to the formulation of unified definitions of finite and infinite colored minuscule and $d$-complete posets. This paper launches a program that seeks to extend the notion of ``minuscule representation'' to Kac--Moody algebras, and to classify such representations.

Magnificent Four with Colors
Published in Commun. Math. Phys. 372 (2019) 573-597 • View Publication • BIB
We study the rank N magnificent four theory, which is the supersymmetric localization of U(N) super-Yang-Mills theory with matter (a super-group U(N|N) gauge theory) on a Calabi-Yau fourfold. Our theory contains the higher rank Donaldson-Thomas theory of threefolds. We conjecture an explicit formula for the partition function Z, and report on the performed checks. The partition function Z has a free field representation. Surprisingly, it depends on the Coulomb and mass parameters in a simple way. We also clarify the definition of the instanton measure.
Bit Threads and Holographic Monogamy
Published in Commun. Math. Phys. (2019). https://doi.org/10.1007/s00220-019-03510-8 • View Publication • BIB
Bit threads provide an alternative description of holographic entanglement, replacing the Ryu-Takayanagi minimal surface with bulk curves connecting pairs of boundary points. We use bit threads to prove the monogamy of mutual information (MMI) property of holographic entanglement entropies. This is accomplished using the concept of a so-called multicommodity flow, adapted from the network setting, and tools from the theory of convex optimization. Based on the bit thread picture, we conjecture a general ansatz for a holographic state, involving only bipartite and perfect-tensor type entanglement, for any decomposition of the boundary into four regions. We also give new proofs of analogous theorems on networks.

Using Wilf-Zeilberger algorithmic proof theory, we continue pioneering work of Meni Rosenfeld (followed up by interesting work by Cyril Grunspan and Ricardo Perez-Marco) and study the probability and duration of successful bitcoin attacks, but using an equivalent, and much more congenial, formulation as a certain two-phase soccer match.
Matrices in the Hosoya triangle
Published • View Publication • BIB
In this paper we use well-known results from linear algebra as tools to explore some properties of products of Fibonacci numbers. Specifically, we explore the behavior of the eigenvalues, eigenvectors, characteristic polynomials, determinants, and the norm of non-symmetric matrices embedded in the Hosoya triangle. We discovered that most of these objects either embed again in the Hosoya triangle or they give rise to Fibonacci identities. We also study the nature of these matrices when their entries are taken $\bmod$ $2$. As a result, we found an infinite family of non-connected graphs. Each graph in this family has a complete graph with loops attached to each of its vertices as a component and the other components are isolated vertices. The Hosoya triangle allowed us to show the beauty of both, the algebra and geometry.

An Extension of Waring's Problem in $\mathbb{Z}_{p^k}$
In this paper, we will investigate the solvability of the equation $x_1^k + x_2^k + \ldots + x_s^k = n$, $n\in \mathbb{Z}_{p^k}$, $x_1,...,x_s\in \mathcal{A}$, $\mathcal{A}\subseteq \mathbb{Z}_{p^k}$. We will give a upper bound of the number of solutions for $s=2$.
A Ramsey-type theorem for the matching number regarding connected graphs
Published • View Publication • BIB
A major line of research is discovering Ramsey-type theorems, which are results of the following form: given a graph parameter $ρ$, every graph $G$ with sufficiently large $ρ(G)$ contains a `well-structured' induced subgraph $H$ with large $ρ(H)$. The classical Ramsey's theorem deals with the case when the graph parameter under consideration is the number of vertices; there is also a Ramsey-type theorem regarding connected graphs. Given a graph $G$, the matching number and the induced matching number of $G$ is the maximum size of a matching and an induced matching, respectively, of $G$. In this paper, we formulate Ramsey-type theorems for the matching number and the induced matching number regarding connected graphs. Along the way, we obtain a Ramsey-type theorem for the independence number regarding connected graphs as well.

Spectral bounds for non-uniform hypergraphs using weighted clique expansion
Hypergraphs are an invaluable tool to understand many hidden patterns in large data sets. Among many ways to represent hypergraph, one useful representation is that of weighted clique expansion. In this paper, we consider this representation for non-uniform hypergraphs. We generalize the spectral results for uniform hypergraphs to non-uniform hypergraphs and show that they extend in a natural way. We provide a bound on the largest eigenvalue with respect to the average degree of neighbours of a vertex in a graph. We also prove an inequality on the boundary of a vertex set in terms of the largest and second smallest eigenvalue and use it to obtain bounds on some connectivity parameters of the hypergraph.

Commutation matrices and Commutation tensors
Published • View Publication • BIB
The commutation matrix was first introduced in statistics as a transposition matrix by Murnaghan in 1938. In this paper, we first investigate the commutation matrix which is employed to transform a matrix into its transpose. We then extend the concept of the commutation matrix to commutation tensor and use the commutation tensor to achieve the unification of the two formulae of the linear preserver of the matrix rank, a classical result of Marcus in 1971.

Cracked Polytopes and Fano Toric Complete Intersections
Published • View Publication • BIB
We introduce the notion of cracked polytope, and - making use of joint work with Coates and Kasprzyk - construct the associated toric variety $X$ as a subvariety of a non-singular toric variety $Y$ under certain conditions. Restricting to the case in which this subvariety is a complete intersection, we present a sufficient condition for a smoothing of $X$ to exist inside $Y$. We exhibit a relative anti-canonical divisor for this smoothing of $X$, and show that the general member is simple normal crossings.

A topological characterization of Gauss codes
A (smooth) embedding of a closed curve on the plane with finitely many intersections is said to be generic if each point of self-intersection is crossed exactly twice and at non-tangent angles. A finite word $ω$ where each character occurs twice is a Gauss code if it can be obtained as the sequence of traversed self-intersections of a generic plane embedding of a close curved $γ$. Then $γ$ is said to realize $ω$. We present a characterization of Gauss codes using Seifert cycles. The characterization is given by an algorithm that, given a Gauss code $ω$ as input, it outputs a combinatorial plane embedding of closed curve in linear time with respect to the number of characters of the word. The algorithm allows to find all the (combinatorial) embeddings of a closed curve in the plane that realize $ω$. The characterization involve two functions between graphs embedded on orientable surfaces, invertible of each other. One produces an embedding of the Seifert graph of the word (or paragraph), and the other is its inverse operation. These operations might be of independent interest.
