New series of $2^{2m}$-dimensional universally strongly perfect lattices $Λ_I $ and $Γ_J $ are constructed with $$2BW_{2m} ^{\#} \subseteq Γ_J \subseteq BW_{2m} \subseteq Λ_I \subseteq BW _{2m}^{\#} .$$ The lattices are found by restricting the spin representations of the automorphism group of the Barnes-Wall lattice to its subgroup ${\mathcal U}_m:={\mathcal C}_m (4^H_{\bf 1}) $. The group ${\mathcal U}_m$ is the Clifford-Weil group associated to the Hermitian self-dual codes over ${\bf F} _4$ containing ${\bf 1}$, so the ring of polynomial invariants of ${\mathcal U}_m$ is spanned by the genus-$m$ complete weight enumerators of such codes. This allows us to show that all the ${\mathcal U}_m$ invariant lattices are universally strongly perfect. We introduce a new construction, $D^{(cyc)}$ for chains of (extended) cyclic codes to obtain (bounds on) the minimum of the new lattices.
q-Congruences, with applications to supercongruences and the cyclic sieving phenomenon

We establish a supercongruence conjectured by Almkvist and Zudilin, by proving a corresponding $q$-supercongruence. Similar $q$-supercongruences are established for binomial coefficients and the Apéry numbers, by means of a general criterion involving higher derivatives at roots of unity. Our methods lead us to discover new examples of the cyclic sieving phenomenon, involving the $q$-Lucas numbers.
Double blocking sets of size $3q-1$ in $\mathrm{PG}(2,q)$

The main purpose of this paper is to find double blocking sets in $\mathrm{PG}(2,q)$ of size less than $3q$, in particular when $q$ is prime. To this end, we study double blocking sets in $\mathrm{PG}(2,q)$ of size $3q-1$ admitting at least two $(q-1)$-secants. We derive some structural properties of these and show that they cannot have three $(q-1)$-secants. This yields that one cannot remove six points from a triangle, a double blocking set of size $3q$, and add five new points so that the resulting set is also a double blocking set. Furthermore, we give constructions of minimal double blocking sets of size $3q-1$ in $\mathrm{PG}(2,q)$ for $q=13$, $16$, $19$, $25$, $27$, $31$, $37$ and $43$. If $q>13$ is a prime, these are the first examples of double blocking sets of size less than $3q$. These results resolve two conjectures of Raymond Hill from 1984.

Recently, Wang and Ma propose a conjecture associated with the possible generalization of Andrews-Warnaar identities. It is confirmed in this paper. As the applications of this conjecture, we prove that a family of series can be expressed by the partial theta functions and construct some new partial theta function identities.

A subset $D\subseteq V(G)$ is called a $k$-distance dominating set of $G$ if every vertex in $V(G)\setminus D$ is within distance $k$ from some vertex of $D$. The minimum cardinality among all $k$-distance dominating sets of $G$ is called the $k$-distance domination number of $G$. In this note we give upper bound on the $k$-distance domination number of a connected bipartite graph and improve some results have been given like Theorem 2.1 and 2,7 in [Tian and Xu, A note on distance domination of graphs, Australian Journal of Combinatorics, 43 (2009), 181-190].
An efficient algorithm to test forcibly-biconnectedness of graphical degree sequences
We present an algorithm to test whether a given graphical degree sequence is forcibly biconnected or not and prove its correctness. The worst case run time complexity of the algorithm is shown to be exponential but still much better than the previous basic algorithm presented in \cite{Wang2018}. We show through experimental evaluations that the algorithm is efficient on average. We also adapt Ruskey et al's classic algorithm to enumerate zero-free graphical degree sequences of length $n$ and Barnes and Savage's classic algorithm to enumerate graphical partitions of an even integer $n$ by incorporating our testing algorithm into theirs and then obtain some enumerative results about forcibly biconnected graphical degree sequences of given length $n$ and forcibly biconnected graphical partitions of given even integer $n$. Based on these enumerative results we make some conjectures such as: when $n$ is large, (1) the proportion of forcibly biconnected graphical degree sequences of length $n$ among all zero-free graphical degree sequences of length $n$ is asymptotically a constant between 0 and 1; (2) the proportion of forcibly biconnected graphical partitions of even $n$ among all forcibly connected graphical partitions of $n$ is asymptotically 0.
Sound Colless-like balance indices for multifurcating trees

The Colless index is one of the most popular and natural balance indices for bifurcating phylogenetic trees, but it makes no sense for multifurcating trees. In this paper we propose a family of Colless-like balance indices $\mathfrak{C}_{D,f}$, which depend on a dissimilarity $D$ and a function $f:\mathbb{N}\to \mathbb{R}_{\geq 0}$, that generalize the Colless index to multifurcating phylogenetic trees. We provide two functions $f$ such that the most balanced phylogenetic trees according to the corresponding indices $\mathfrak{C}_{D,f}$ are exactly the fully symmetric ones. Next, for each one of these two functions $f$ and for three popular dissimilarities $D$ (the variance, the standard deviation, and the mean deviation from the median), we determine the range of values of $\mathfrak{C}_{D,f}$ on the sets of phylogenetic trees with a given number $n$ of leaves. We end the paper by assessing the performance of one of these indices on TreeBASE and using it to show that the trees in this database do not seem to follow either the uniform model for multifurcating trees or the $α$-$γ$-model, for any values of $α$ and $γ$.
Weighted external difference families and R-optimal AMD codes

In this paper, we provide a mathematical framework for characterizing AMD codes that are R-optimal. We introduce a new combinatorial object, the reciprocally-weighted external difference family (RWEDF), which corresponds precisely to an R-optimal weak AMD code. This definition subsumes known examples of existing optimal codes, and also encompasses combinatorial objects not covered by previous definitions in the literature. By developing structural group-theoretic characterizations, we exhibit infinite families of new RWEDFs, and new construction methods for known objects such as near-complete EDFs. Examples of RWEDFs in non-abelian groups are also discussed.
Domination Critical Knodel Graphs

A set $D$ of vertices of a graph $G$ is a dominating set if each vertex of $V(G)\setminus D$ is adjacent to some vertex of $D$. The domination number of $G$, $γ(G)$, is the minimum cardinality of a dominating set of $G$. A graph $G$ is called domination vertex critical, or just $γ$-critical if removal of any vertex decreases the domination number. A graph $G$ is called domination vertex stable, or just $γ$-stable, if removal of any vertex does not decrease the domination number. For an even integer $n\ge 2$ and $1\le Δ\le \lfloor \log_2n \rfloor$, a Knödel graph $W_{Δ,n}$ is a $Δ$-regular bipartite graph of even order $n$, with vertices $(i,j)$, for $i=1,2$ and $0\le j \le n/2-1$, where for every $j$, $0\le j \le n/2-1$, there is an edge between vertex $(1,j)$ and every vertex $(2,j+2^k-1$ (mod (n/2)), for $k=0,1,\cdots,Δ-1$. in this paper, we study the domination criticality and domination stability of Knödel graphs. We charactrize the 3-regular and 4-regular Knödel graphs by $γ$-criticality or $γ$-stability.
Resistors in dual networks

Let $G$ be a finite plane multigraph and $G'$ its dual. Each edge $e$ of $G$ is interpreted as a resistor of resistance $R_e$, and the dual edge $e'$ is assigned the dual resistance $R_{e'}:=1/R_e$. Then the equivalent resistance $r_e$ over $e$ and the equivalent resistance $r_{e'}$ over $e'$ satisfy $r_e/R_e+r_{e'}/R_{e'}=1$. We provide a graph theoretic proof of this relation by expressing the resistances in terms of sums of weights of spanning trees in $G$ and $G'$ respectively.

We study an impartial game introduced by Anderson and Harary. The game is played by two players who alternately choose previously-unselected elements of a finite group. The first player who builds a generating set from the jointly-selected elements wins. We determine the nim-numbers of this game for finite groups of the form $T \times H$, where $T$ is a $2$-group and $H$ is a group of odd order. This includes all nilpotent and hence abelian groups.

Let $G$ be a finite simple graph and $I(G)$ denote the corresponding edge ideal. In this paper, we obtain upper bounds for the Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity of $I(G)^q$ in terms of certain combinatorial invariants associated with $G$. We also prove a weaker version of a conjecture by Alilooee, Banerjee, Beyarslan and Hà on an upper bound for the regularity of $I(G)^q$ and we prove the conjectured upper bound for the class of vertex decomposable graphs. Using these results, we explicitly compute the regularity of $I(G)^q$ for several classes of graphs.
Quadratic Irrationals, Closed Geodesics on the Modular Surface and Dynamical Zeta Functions
We show that generating functions associated to the sequence of convergents of a quadratic irrational are related in a natural way to the dynam- ical zeta function of a hyperbolic automorphism of the 2-torus. As a corollary, this shows that the Lévy constant of a quadratic irrational appears naturally as the topological entropy of such maps.

Let $I = I(G)$ be the edge ideal of a graph $G$. We give various general upper bounds for the regularity function $\text{reg} I^s$, for $s \ge 1$, addressing a conjecture made by the authors and Alilooee. When $G$ is a gap-free graph and locally of regularity 2, we show that $\text{reg} I^s = 2s$ for all $s \ge 2$. This is a slightly weaker version of a conjecture of Nevo and Peeva. Our method is to investigate the regularity function $\text{reg}I^s$, for $s \ge 1$, via local information of $I$.
Structural submodularity and tangles in abstract separation systems

We prove a tangle-tree theorem and a tangle duality theorem for abstract separation systems $\vec S$ that are submodular in the structural sense that, for every pair of oriented separations, $\vec S$ contains either their meet or their join defined in some universe $\vec U$ of separations containing $\vec S$.
This holds, and is widely used, if $\vec U$ comes with a submodular order function and $\vec S$ consists of all its separations up to some fixed order. Our result is that for the proofs of these two theorems, which are central to abstract tangle theory, it suffices to assume the above structural consequence for $\vec S$, and no order function is needed.

Let $V$ be a real vector space of dimension $n$ and let $M\subset V$ be a lattice. Let $P\subset V$ be an $n$-dimensional polytope with vertices in $M$, and let $\varphi\colon V\rightarrow \CC $ be a homogeneous polynomial function of degree $d$ (i.e., an element of $\Sym^{d} (V^{*})$). For $q\in \ZZ_{>0}$ and any face $F$ of $P$, let $D_{\varphi ,F} (q)$ be the sum of $\varphi$ over the lattice points in the dilate $qF$. We define a generating function $G_{\varphi}(q,y) \in \QQ [q] [y]$ packaging together the various $D_{\varphi ,F} (q)$, and show that it satisfies a functional equation that simultaneously generalizes Ehrhart--Macdonald reciprocity and the Dehn--Sommerville relations. When $P$ is a simple lattice polytope (i.e., each vertex meets $n$ edges), we show how $G_{\varphi}$ can be computed using an analogue of Brion--Vergne's Euler--Maclaurin summation formula.
The genus of complete 3-uniform hypergraphs

In 1968, Ringel and Youngs confirmed the last open case of the Heawood Conjecture by determining the genus of every complete graph $K_n$. In this paper, we investigate the minimum genus embeddings of the complete $3$-uniform hypergraphs $K_n^3$. Embeddings of a hypergraph $H$ are defined as the embeddings of its associated Levi graph $L_H$ with vertex set $V(H)\sqcup E(H)$, in which $v\in V(H)$ and $e\in E(H)$ are adjacent if and only if $v$ and $e$ are incident in $H$. We determine both the orientable and the non-orientable genus of $K_n^3$ when $n$ is even. Moreover, it is shown that the number of non-isomorphic minimum genus embeddings of $K_n^3$ is at least $2^{\frac{1}{4}n^2\log n(1-o(1))}$. The construction in the proof may be of independent interest as a design-type problem.
The number of s-separated k-sets in various circles
This article studies the number of ways of selecting $k$ objects arranged in $p$ circles of sizes $n_1,\ldots,n_p$ such that no two selected ones have less than $s$ objects between them. If $n_i\geq sk+1$ for all $1\leq i \leq p$, this number is shown to be $\frac{n_1+\ldots+n_p}{k}\binom{n_1+\ldots+n_p-sk-1}{k-1}$. A combinatorial proof of this claim is provided, and some nice combinatorial formulas are derived.
The relation between Parabolic Hecke modules and $W$-graph ideal modules in Kazhdan-Lusztig theory
In 2011, Howlett and Nguyen \cite{r1} introduced the concept of a $W$-graph ideal $E_J$ in $\left ( W,\leqslant_{L} \right )$ with respect to $J$ (a subset of $S$), where $\leqslant _{L}$ is the left weak order on $W$. They proved that one can construct a $W$-graph from a given $W$-graph ideal by constructing a Hecke module structure on $E_J$, where the $W$-graph was introduced by Kazhdan and Lusztig in \cite{d1}.
In this paper, we give the relation between Hecke modules on $E_J$ and general Hecke algebras by considering the relation between Hecke modules on $E_J$ and parabolic Hecke modules. And inspired by Lusztig \cite{g3}, we show that the parabolic Hecke module is isomorphic to a left ideal of the Hecke algebra. Lastly, we give the relation between $R$-polynomials on $E_J$ and parabolic $R$-polynomials as an application of the main results.
