Let $W$ be a finite Weyl group and $\A$ be the corresponding Weyl arrangement. A deformation of $\A$ is an affine arrangement which is obtained by adding to each hyperplane $H\in\A$ several parallel translations of $H$ by the positive root (and its integer multiples) perpendicular to $H$. We say that a deformation is $W$-equivariant if the number of parallel hyperplanes of each hyperplane $H\in \A$ depends only on the $W$-orbit of $H$. We prove that the conings of the $W$-equivariant deformations are free arrangements under a Shi-Catalan condition and give a formula for the number of chambers. This generalizes Yoshinaga's theorem conjectured by Edelman-Reiner.

Small (2,s)-colorable graphs without 1-obstacle representations
An obstacle representation of a graph G is a set of points on the plane together with a set of polygonal obstacles that determine a visibility graph isomorphic to G. The obstacle number of G is the minimum number of obstacles over all obstacle representations of G. Alpert, Koch, and Laison gave a 12-vertex bipartite graph and proved that its obstacle number is two. We show that a 10-vertex induced subgraph of this graph has obstacle number two. Alpert et al. also constructed very large graphs with vertex set consisting of a clique and an independent set in order to show that obstacle number is an unbounded parameter. We specify a 70-vertex graph with vertex set consisting of a clique and an independent set, and prove that it has obstacle number greater than one. This is an ancillary document to our article in press. We conclude by showing that a 10-vertex graph with vertex set consisting of two cliques has obstacle number greater than one, improving on a result therein.

For two positive integers $r$ and $s$ with $r\geq 2s-2$, if $G$ is a graph of order $3r+4s$ such that $d(x)+d(y)\geq 4r+4s$ for every $xy\not\in E(G)$, then $G$ independently contains $r$ triangles and $s$ quadrilaterals, which partially prove the El-Zahar's Conjecture.

A new algorithm for computing the multivariate Faà di Bruno's formula is provided. We use a symbolic approach based on the classical umbral calculus that turns the computation of the multivariate Faà di Bruno's formula into a suitable multinomial expansion. We propose a MAPLE procedure whose computational times are faster compared with the ones existing in the literature. Some illustrative applications are also provided.
On the Growth of the Counting Function of Stanley Sequences

Given a finite set of nonnegative integers A with no 3-term arithmetic progressions, the Stanley sequence generated by A, denoted S(A), is the infinite set created by beginning with A and then greedily including strictly larger integers which do not introduce a 3-term arithmetic progressions in S(A). Erdos et al. asked whether the counting function, S(A,x), of a Stanley sequence S(A) satisfies S(A,x)>x^{1/2-ε} for every ε>0 and x>x_0(ε,A). In this paper we answer this question in the affirmative; in fact, we prove the slightly stronger result that S(A,x)\geq (\sqrt{2}-ε)\sqrt{x} for x\geq x_0(ε,A).

We present a "modern" approach to the Erdős-Ko-Rado theorem for Q-polynomial distance-regular graphs and apply it to the twisted Grassmann graphs discovered in 2005 by van Dam and Koolen.
The generalized connectivity of complete bipartite graphs
Let $G$ be a nontrivial connected graph of order $n$, and $k$ an integer with $2\leq k\leq n$. For a set $S$ of $k$ vertices of $G$, let $κ(S)$ denote the maximum number $\ell$ of edge-disjoint trees $T_1,T_2,...,T_\ell$ in $G$ such that $V(T_i)\cap V(T_j)=S$ for every pair $i,j$ of distinct integers with $1\leq i,j\leq \ell$. Chartrand et al. generalized the concept of connectivity as follows: The $k$-$connectivity$, denoted by $κ_k(G)$, of $G$ is defined by $κ_k(G)=$min$\{κ(S)\}$, where the minimum is taken over all $k$-subsets $S$ of $V(G)$. Thus $κ_2(G)=κ(G)$, where $κ(G)$ is the connectivity of $G$. Moreover, $κ_{n}(G)$ is the maximum number of edge-disjoint spanning trees of $G$.
This paper mainly focus on the $k$-connectivity of complete bipartite graphs $K_{a,b}$. First, we obtain the number of edge-disjoint spanning trees of $K_{a,b}$, which is $\lfloor\frac{ab}{a+b-1}\rfloor$, and specifically give the $\lfloor\frac{ab}{a+b-1}\rfloor$ edge-disjoint spanning trees. Then based on this result, we get the $k$-connectivity of $K_{a,b}$ for all $2\leq k \leq a+b$. Namely, if $k>b-a+2$ and $a-b+k$ is odd then $κ_{k}(K_{a,b})=\frac{a+b-k+1}{2}+\lfloor\frac{(a-b+k-1)(b-a+k-1)}{4(k-1)}\rfloor,$ if $k>b-a+2$ and $a-b+k$ is even then $κ_{k}(K_{a,b})=\frac{a+b-k}{2}+\lfloor\frac{(a-b+k)(b-a+k)}{4(k-1)}\rfloor,$ and if $k\leq b-a+2$ then $κ_{k}(K_{a,b})=a. $

The Kelmans-Seymour conjecture states that the 5-connected nonplanar graphs contain a subdivided $K_{_5}$. Certain questions of Mader propose a "plan" towards a possible resolution of this conjecture. One part of this plan is to show that a 5-connected nonplanar graph containing $K^-_{_4}$ or $K_{_{2,3}}$ as a subgraph has a subdivided $K_{_5}$. Recently, Ma and Yu showed that a 5-connected nonplanar graph containing $K^-_{_4}$ as a subgraph has a subdivided $K_{_5}$. We take interest in $K_{_{2,3}}$ and prove that a 5-connected nonplanar apex graph containing $K_{_{2,3}}$ as a subgraph has a subdivided $K_{_5}$
The Kelmans-Seymour conjecture for apex graphs
We provide a short proof that a 5-connected nonplanar apex graph contains a subdivided $K_{_5}$ or a $K^-_{_4}$ (= $K_{_4}$ with a single edge removed) as a subgraph. Together with a recent result of Ma and Yu that {\sl every nonplanar 5-connected graph containing $K^-_{_4}$ as a subgraph has a subdivided $K_{_5}$}; this settles the Kelmans-Seymour conjecture for apex graphs.

We prove that every 6-connected graph of girth $\geq 6$ has a $K_6$-minor and thus settle the Jorgensen conjecture for graphs of girth $ \geq 6$. Relaxing the assumption on the girth, we prove that every 6-connected $n$-vertex graph of size $\geq 3 1/5 n-8$ and of girth $\geq 5$ contains a $K_6$-minor.
Almost Series-Parallel graphs: structure and colorability
The series-parallel (SP) graphs are those containing no topological $K_{_4}$ and are considered trivial. We relax the prohibition distinguishing the SP graphs by forbidding only embeddings of $K_{_4}$ whose edges with both ends 3-valent (skeleton hereafter) induce a graph isomorphic to certain prescribed subgraphs of $K_{_4}$. In particular, we describe the structure of the graphs containing no embedding of $K_{_4}$ whose skeleton is isomorphic to $P_{_3}$ or $P_{_4}$. Such "almost series-parallel graphs" (ASP) still admit a concise description. Amongst other things, their description reveals that:
1. Essentially, the 3-connected ASP graphs are those obtained from the 3-connected cubic graphs by replacing each vertex with a triangle (e.g., the 3-connected claw-free graphs).
2. Except for $K_{_6}$, the ASP graphs are 5-colorable in polynomial time. Distinguishing between the 5-chromatic and the 4-colorable ASP graphs is $NP$-hard.
3. The ASP class is significantly richer than the SP class: 4-vertex-colorability, 3-edge-colorability, and Hamiltonicity are $NP$-hard for ASP graphs.
Our interest in such ASP graphs arises from a previous paper of ours: "{\sl On the colorability of graphs with forbidden minors along paths and circuits}, Discrete Math. (to appear)".
Tropical varieties with polynomial weights and corner loci of piecewise polynomials

We find a relation between mixed volumes of several polytopes and the convex hull of their union, deducing it from the following fact: the mixed volume of a collection of polytopes only depends on the product of their support functions (rather than on the individual support functions). For integer polytopes, this dependence is essentially a certain specialization of the isomorphism between two well-known combinatorial models for the cohomology of toric varieties, however, this construction has not been extended to arbitrary polytopes so far (partially due to the lack of combinatorial tools capable of substituting for toric geometry, when vertices are not rational). We provide such an extension, which leads to an explicit formula for the mixed volume in terms of the product of support functions, and may also be interesting because of the combinatorial tools (tropical varieties with polynomial weights and their corner loci) that appear in our construction. As an example of another possible application of these new objects, we notice that every tropical subvariety in a tropical manifold M can be locally represented as the intersection of M with another tropical variety (possibly with negative weights), and conjecture certain generalizations of this fact to singular M. The above fact about subvarieties of a tropical manifold may be of independent interest, because it implies that the intersection theory on a tropical manifold, which was recently constructed by Allerman, Francois, Rau and Shaw, is locally induced from the ambient vector space.

Maximal right smooth extension chains
If $w=uα$ for $α\in Σ=\{1,2\}$ and $u\in Σ^*$, then $w$ is said to be a \textit{simple right extension}of $u$ and denoted by $u\prec w$. Let $k$ be a positive integer and $P^k(ε)$ denote the set of all $C^\infty$-words of height $k$. Set $u_{1},\,u_{2},..., u_{m}\in P^{k}(ε)$, if $u_{1}\prec u_{2}\prec ...\prec u_{m}$ and there is no element $v$ of $P^{k}(ε)$ such that $v\prec u_{1}\text{or} u_{m}\prec v$, then $u_{1}\prec u_{2}\prec...\prec u_{m}$ is said to be a \textit{maximal right smooth extension (MRSE) chains}of height $k$. In this paper, we show that \textit{MRSE} chains of height $k$ constitutes a partition of smooth words of height $k$ and give the formula of the number of \textit{MRSE} chains of height $k$ for each positive integer $k$. Moreover, since there exist the minimal height $h_1$ and maximal height $h_2$ of smooth words of length $n$ for each positive integer $n$, we find that \textit{MRSE} chains of heights $h_1-1$ and $h_2+1$ are good candidates to be used to establish the lower and upper bounds of the number of smooth words of length $n$ respectively, which is simpler and more intuitionistic than the previous methods.

Vertices of high degree in the preferential attachment tree

We study the basic preferential attachment process, which generates a sequence of random trees, each obtained from the previous one by introducing a new vertex and joining it to one existing vertex, chosen with probability proportional to its degree. We investigate the number $D_t(\ell)$ of vertices of each degree $\ell$ at each time $t$, focussing particularly on the case where $\ell$ is a growing function of $t$. We show that $D_t(\ell)$ is concentrated around its mean, which is approximately $4t/\ell^3$, for all $\ell \le (t/\log t)^{-1/3}$; this is best possible up to a logarithmic factor.
Imbalances in directed multigraphs

In a directed multigraph, the imbalance of a vertex $v_{i}$ is defined as $b_{v_{i}}=d_{v_{i}}^{+}-d_{v_{i}}^{-}$, where $d_{v_{i}}^{+}$ and $d_{v_{i}}^{-}$ denote the outdegree and indegree respectively of $v_{i}$. We characterize imbalances in directed multigraphs and obtain lower and upper bounds on imbalances in such digraphs. Also, we show the existence of a directed multigraph with a given imbalance set.
