A LP-rounding based algorithm for soft capacitated facility location problem with submodular penalties
The soft capacitated facility location problem (SCFLP) is a classic combinatorial optimization problem, with its variants widely applied in the fields of operations research and computer science. In the SCFLP, given a set $\mathcal{F}$ of facilities and a set $\mathcal{D}$ of clients, each facility has a capacity and an open cost, allowing to open multiple times, and each client has a demand. This problem is to find a subset of facilities in $\mathcal{F}$ and connect each client to the facilities opened, such that the total cost including open cost and connection cost is minimied. SCFLP is a NP-hard problem, which has led to a focus on approximation algorithms. Based on this, we consider a variant, that is, soft capacitated facility location problem with submodular penalties (SCFLPSP), which allows some clients not to be served by accepting the penalty cost. And we consider the integer splittable case of demand, that is, the demand of each client is served by multiple facilities with the integer service amount by each facility. Based on LP-rounding, we propose a $(λR+4)$-approximation algorithm, where $R=\frac{\max_{i \in \mathcal{F} }f_i}{\min_{i \in \mathcal{F} }f_i},λ=\frac{R+\sqrt{R^2+8R}}{2R}$. In particular, when the open cost is uniform, the approximation ratio is 6.
The spectrum of dense kernel-based random graphs
Kernel-based random graphs (KBRGs) are a broad class of random graph models that account for inhomogeneity among vertices. We consider KBRGs on a discrete $d-$dimensional torus $\mathbf{V}_N$ of size $N^d$. Conditionally on an i.i.d.~sequence of {Pareto} weights $(W_i)_{i\in \mathbf{V}_N}$ with tail exponent $τ-1>0$, we connect any two points $i$ and $j$ on the torus with probability $$p_{ij}= \frac{κ_σ(W_i,W_j)}{\|i-j\|^α} \wedge 1$$ for some parameter $α>0$ and $κ_σ(u,v)= (u\vee v)(u \wedge v)^σ$ for some $σ\in(0,τ-1)$. We focus on the adjacency operator of this random graph and study its empirical spectral distribution. For $α<d$ and $τ>2$, we show that a non-trivial limiting distribution exists as $N\to\infty$ and that the corresponding measure $μ_{σ,τ}$ is absolutely continuous with respect to the Lebesgue measure. $μ_{σ,τ}$ is given by an operator-valued semicircle law, whose Stieltjes transform is characterised by a fixed point equation in an appropriate Banach space. We analyse the moments of $μ_{σ,τ}$ and prove that the second moment is finite even when the weights have infinite variance. In the case $σ=1$, corresponding to the so-called scale-free percolation random graph, we can explicitly describe the limiting measure and study its tail.

Realisability of simultaneous density constraints for sets of integers
In this note, we study the set $\mathcal{D}$ of values of the quadruplet $(\underline{\mathrm{d}}(A),\overline{\mathrm{d}}(A),\underline{\mathrm{d}}(2A),\overline{\mathrm{d}}(2A))$ where $A\subset\mathbb{N}$ and $\underline{\mathrm{d}},\overline{\mathrm{d}}$ denote the lower and upper asymptotic density, respectively. Completing existing results on the topic, we determine each of its six projections on coordinate planes, that is, the sets of possible values of the six subpairs of the quadruplet. Further, we show that this set $\mathcal{D}$ has non empty interior, in particular has positive measure. To do so, we use among others probabilistic and diophantine methods. Some auxiliary results pertaining to these methods may be of general interest.

On the heat content of compact quantum graphs
We study the heat content for Laplacians on compact, finite metric graphs with Dirichlet conditions imposed at the "boundary" (i.e., a given set of vertices). We prove a closed formula of combinatorial flavour, as it is expressed as a sum over all closed orbits hitting the boundary. Our approach delivers a small-time asymptotic expansion that delivers information on crucial geometric quantities of the metric graph, much in the spirit of the celebrated corresponding result for manifolds due to Gilkey-van den Berg; but unlike other known formulae based on different methods, ours holds for all times $t>0$ and it displays stronger decay rate in the short time limit. Furthermore, we prove new surgery principles for the heat content and use them to derive comparison principles for the heat content between metric graphs of different topology.

Representation theory and central limit theorems for traces of commutators for compact Lie groups
There has been some work in the literature on limit theorems for the trace of commutators for compact Lie groups. We revisit this from the perspective of combinatorial representation theory.

Excluded power graphs of groups
Let $G$ be a group, and let $\mathcal{X}$ be a set of integers greater than one. We consider the directed $\mathcal{X}$-excluded power graph of $G$, which takes $G$ as its vertex set and has an edge from $g$ to each power of $g$ other than itself provided the power is not divisible by any element of $\mathcal{X}$. We show that when $G=H\times K$ for $H$ and $K$ with coprime orders, excluding the prime factors of $|H|$ yields a power graph with a quotient consisting of multiple copies of a quotient of the power graph (no exclusions) of $K$. For any prime $p$, we describe the groups whose directed and undirected $\{p\}$-excluded power graphs consist of disjoint (directed) cliques.

Simultaneous generating sets for flags
We prove that any triple of complete flags in $\mathbb R^d$ admits a common generating set of size $\lfloor 5d/3\rfloor$ and that this bound is sharp. This result extends the classical linear-algebraic fact -- a consequence of the Bruhat decomposition of $\text{GL}_d(\mathbb R)$ -- that any pair of complete flags in $\mathbb R^d$ admits a common generating set of size $d$. We also deduce an analogue for $m$-tuples of flags with $m>3$.
Erdős's integer dilation approximation problem and GCD graphs
Let $\mathcal{A}\subset\mathbb{R}_{\geqslant1}$ be a countable set such that $\limsup_{x\to\infty}\frac{1}{\log x}\sum_{α\in\mathcal{A}\cap[1,x]}\frac{1}α>0$. We prove that, for every $\varepsilon>0$, there exist infinitely many pairs $(α, β)\in \mathcal{A}^2$ such that $α\neq β$ and $|nα-β| <\varepsilon$ for some positive integer $n$. This resolves a problem of Erdős from 1948. A critical role in the proof is played by the machinery of GCD graphs, which were introduced by the first author and by James Maynard in their work on the Duffin--Schaeffer conjecture in Diophantine approximation.

Interpolating chromatic and homomorphism thresholds
The problem of chromatic thresholds seeks for minimum degree conditions that ensure $H$-free graphs to have a bounded chromatic number, or equivalently a bounded size homomorphic image. The strengthened homomorphism thresholds problem further requires that the homomorphic image itself is $H$-free. The purpose of this paper is two-fold. First, we define a generalized notion of threshold which encapsulates and interpolates chromatic and homomorphism thresholds via the theory of VC-dimension. Our first result shows a smooth transition between these two thresholds when varying the restrictions on homomorphic images. In particular, we proved that for $t \ge s \ge 3$ and $ε>0$, if $G$ is an $n$-vertex $K_s$-free graph with VC-dimension $d$ and $δ(G) \ge (\frac{(s-3)(t-s+2)+1}{(s-2)(t-s+2)+1} + ε)n$, then $G$ is homomorphic to a $K_t$-free graph $H$ with $|H| = O(1)$. Moreover, we construct graphs showing that this minimum degree condition is optimal. This extends and unifies the results of Thomassen, Łuczak and Thomassé, and Goddard, Lyle and Nikiforov, and provides a deeper insight into the cause of existences of homomorphic images with various properties. Second, we introduce the blowup threshold $δ_B(H)$ as the infimum $α$ such that every $n$-vertex maximal $H$-free graph $G$ with $δ(G)\geαn$ is a blowup of some $F$ with $|F|=O(1)$. This notion strengthens homomorphism threshold. While the homomorphism thresholds for odd cycles remain unknown, we prove that $δ_B(C_{2k-1})=1/(2k-1)$ for any integer $k\ge 2$. This strengthens the result of Ebsen and Schacht and answers a question of Schacht and shows that, in sharp contrast to the chromatic thresholds, 0 is an accumulation point for blowup thresholds. Our proofs mix tools from VC-dimension theory and an iterative refining process, and draw connection to a problem concerning codes on graphs.
Realizing resolutions of powers of extremal ideals
Extremal ideals are a class of square-free monomial ideals which dominate and determine many algebraic invariants of powers of all square-free monomial ideals. For example, the $r^{th}$ power ${\mathcal{E}_q}^r$ of the extremal ideal on $q$ generators has the maximum Betti numbers among the $r^{th}$ power of any square-free monomial ideal with $q$ generators. In this paper we study the combinatorial and geometric structure of the (minimal) free resolutions of powers of square-free monomial ideals via the resolutions of powers of extremal ideals. Although the end results are algebraic, this problem has a natural interpretation in terms of polytopes and discrete geometry. Our guiding conjecture is that all powers ${\mathcal{E}_q}^r$ of extremal ideals have resolutions supported on their Scarf simplicial complexes, and thus their resolutions are as small as possible. This conjecture is known to hold for $r \leq 2$ or $q \leq 4$. In this paper we prove the conjecture holds for $r=3$ and any $q\geq 1$ by giving a complete description of the Scarf complex of ${\mathcal{E}_q}^3$. This effectively gives us a sharp bound on the betti numbers and projective dimension of the third power of any square-free momomial ideal. For large $i$ and $q$, our bounds on the $i^{th}$ betti numbers are an exponential improvement over previously known bounds. We also describe a large number of faces of the Scarf complex of ${\mathcal{E}_q}^r$ for any $r,q \geq 1$.

A note on toric ideals of graphs and Knutson-Miller-Yong decompositions
We use a Gröbner basis technique first introduced by Knutson, Miller and Yong to study the interplay between properties of a graph $G$ and algebraic properties of the toric ideal that it defines. We first recover a well-known height formula for the toric ideal of a graph $I_G$ and demonstrate an algebraic property that can detect when a graph deletion is bipartite. We also bound the chromatic number $χ(G)$ using information about an initial ideal of $I_G$.
Hitting k primes by dice rolls
Let $S=(d_1,d_2,d_3, \ldots )$ be an infinite sequence of rolls of independent fair dice. For an integer $k \geq 1$, let $L_k=L_k(S)$ be the smallest $i$ so that there are $k$ integers $j \leq i$ for which $\sum_{t=1}^j d_t$ is a prime. Therefore, $L_k$ is the random variable whose value is the number of dice rolls required until the accumulated sum equals a prime $k$ times. It is known that the expected value of $L_1$ is close to $2.43$. Here we show that for large $k$, the expected value of $L_k$ is $(1+o(1)) k\log_e k$, where the $o(1)$-term tends to zero as $k$ tends to infinity. We also include some computational results about the distribution of $L_k$ for $k \leq 100$.

Perfect state transfer between real pure states
Pure states correspond to one-dimensional subspaces of $\mathbb{C}^n$ represented by unit vectors. In this paper, we develop the theory of perfect state transfer (PST) between real pure states with emphasis on the adjacency and Laplacian matrices as Hamiltonians of a graph representing a quantum spin network. We characterize PST between real pure states based on the spectral information of a graph and prove three fundamental results: (i) every periodic real pure state $\mathbf{x}$ admits perfect state transfer with another real pure state $\mathbf{y}$, (ii) every connected graph admits perfect state transfer between real pure states, and (iii) for any pair of real pure states $\mathbf{x}$ and $\mathbf{y}$ and for any time $τ$, there exists a real symmetric matrix $M$ such that $\mathbf{x}$ and $\mathbf{y}$ admits perfect state transfer relative to $M$ at time $τ$. We also determine all real pure states that admit PST in complete graphs, complete bipartite graphs, paths, and cycles. This leads to a complete characterization of pair and plus state transfer in paths and complete bipartite graphs. We give constructions of graphs that admit PST between real pure states. Finally, using results on the spread of graphs, we prove that amongst all $n$-vertex simple unweighted graphs, the least minimum PST time between real pure states relative to the Laplacian is attained by any join graph, while the it is attained by the join of an empty graph and a complete graph of appropriate sizes relative to the adjacency matrix.
Intersecting Families of Spanning Trees
A family $\mathcal{F}$ of spanning trees of the complete graph on $n$ vertices $K_n$ is \emph{$t$-intersecting} if any two members have a forest on $t$ edges in common. We prove an Erdős--Ko--Rado result for $t$-intersecting families of spanning trees of $K_n$. In particular, we show there exists a constant $C > 0$ such that for all $n \geq C (\log n) t$ the largest $t$-intersecting families are the families consisting of all trees that contain a fixed set of $t$ disjoint edges (as well as the stars on $n$ vertices for $t = 1$). The proof uses the spread approximation technique in conjunction with the Lopsided Lovász Local Lemma.

Representing distance-hereditary graphs with multi-rooted trees
Arboreal networks are a generalization of rooted trees, defined by keeping the tree-like structure, but dropping the requirement for a single root. Just as the class of cographs is precisely the class of undirected graphs that can be explained by a labelled rooted tree (T,t), we show that the class of distance-hereditary graphs is precisely the class of undirected graphs that can be explained by a labelled arboreal network (N,t).
Probabilistic intersection theory in Riemannian homogeneous spaces
Let $M=G/H$ be a Riemannian homogeneous space, where $G$ is a compact Lie group with closed subgroup $H$. Classical intersection theory states that the de Rham cohomology ring of $M$ describes the signed count of intersection points of submanifolds $Y_1, \ldots, Y_s$ of $M$ in general position, when the codimensions add up to $\dim M$. We introduce the probabilistic intersection ring $\mathrm{H}_{\mathbb E}(M)$, whose multiplication describes the unsigned count of intersection points, when the $Y_i$ are randomly moved by independent uniformly random elements of $G$. The probabilistic intersection ring $\mathrm{H}_{\mathbb E}(M)$ has the structure of a graded commutative and associative real Banach algebra. It is defined as a quotient of the ring of Grassmann zonoids of a fixed cotangent space $V$ of $M$. The latter was introduced by the authors in [Adv. Math. 402, 2022]. There is a close connection to valuations of convex bodies: $\mathrm{H}_{\mathbb E}(M)$ can be interpreted as a subspace of the space of translation invariant, even, continuous valuations on $V$, whose multiplication coincides with Alesker's multiplication for smooth valuations. We describe the ring structure of the probabilistic intersection ring for spheres, real projective space and complex projective space, relying on Fu [J. Diff. Geo. 72(3), 2006] for the latter case. From this, we derive an interesting probabilistic intersection formula in complex projective space. Finally, we initiate the investigation of the probabilistic intersection ring for real Grassmannians, outlining the construction of a probabilistic version of Schubert Calculus.

A note on mixed Poisson distributions
In this note we discuss additional properties of mixed Poisson distributions. We discuss the convergence of mixed Poisson distributions to its mixing distribution for the scaling parameter tending to infinity. Moreover, we obtain a central limit theorem after centering by its mixing random variable, together with moment convergence.

On Euler-Sombor Energy of Graphs
In 2024, Gutman et al. \cite{I.Gutman 3} defined a new molecular descriptor called as The Euler-Sombor $(ES)$ index of graph. By using this index we define the Euler-Sombor $(ES)$ matrix of a graph $G$ whoes $(i,j)^{th}$ entry is $\sqrt{{d_i}^2+{d_j}^2+d_i.d_j}$ if vertex $v_i$ is adjacent to vertex $v_j$, otherwise $0$. The $ES$ eigenvalues of the graph $G$ are the eigenvalues of its $ES$ matrix ,$ES(G)$. In this paper we discus $ES$ eigenvalues $ν_i$ and energy of some classes of graphs.
