The Hurwitz Action in the Affine Symmetric Group
Let $W$ be an affine Coxeter group of type $\widetilde{A}_n$, that is, the affine symmetric group $\widetilde{S}_N$ with $N=n+1$, let $T$ be its set of reflections, and let $\mathrm{Red}_T(w)$ be the set of reduced reflection factorizations of an element $w\in W$. The braid group acts on $\mathrm{Red}_T(w)$ by the Hurwitz action. For finite Coxeter groups it is known exactly when this action is transitive, namely precisely for the parabolic quasi-Coxeter elements. We address this problem for the affine type $\widetilde{A}_n$ by determining all orbits of $\mathrm{Red}_T(w)$.
Dual Affine Robinson-Schensted Correspondence
We introduce the dual affine Robinson-Schensted correspondence that gives a bijection between the extended affine symmetric group and tuples $(\bar{P},\bar{Q},λ,N)$, where $\bar{P}$ and $\bar{Q}$ are tabloids, $λ$ is a partition, and $N$ is an integer, subject to compatibility conditions. The construction generalizes Fomin's growth diagrams and Viennot's shadow lines for the classical Robinson-Schensted correspondence on the symmetric group, and is dual to the affine matrix ball construction as well as Shi's correspondence, in the sense that the $P$-tabloids are the same, and the $Q$-tabloids are related by affine evacuation. As a consequence, our construction also parametrizes Kazhdan-Lusztig cells in affine type $A$. We conjecture that the growth diagrams we construct admit a natural geometric realization in terms of relative positions of affine flags, similar to the interpretation given by Steinberg and van Leeuwen in the classical case.
A generalization in affine type A of Coxeter sortable elements and Reading's bijection with noncrossing partitions
This paper generalizes in the affine symmetric group the notion of Coxeter sortable (or c-sortable for short) elements, as well as the classical bijection between c-sortable elements and c-noncrossing partitions defined by Reading in finite Coxeter groups. The generalization to the affine symmetric group of the c-sortable elements is achieved by using biclosed sets of reflections. Using recent works from Barkley and Speyer, these biclosed sets admit a sort of "one-line notation" called a TITO on $\mathbb{Z}$ (translation-invariant total order on $\mathbb{Z}$) that coincides with the usual one-line notation in the case of an affine permutation. We characterize the c-sortable elements of the affine symmetric group by pattern avoidance on their one-line notation, mirroring the well-known characterizations of c-sortable elements in the classical finite types. Based on this criterion, we then define the c-sortable biclosed sets, generalizing the c-sortable elements, as biclosed sets such that their TITOs on $\mathbb{Z}$ avoid certain patterns. We also build a bijection from our set of c-sortable biclosed sets to the set of c-noncrossing partitions using various combinatorial objects and their one-to-one correspondences. First, the TITOs, in bijection with the biclosed sets of the affine symmetric group using results from Barkley and Speyer. Second, the c-noncrossing partitions of an annulus, in bijection with the c-noncrossing partitions of the affine symmetric group, using results from Digne and Reading. Finally, the cyclic noncrossing arc diagrams, defined by Barkley, for which we exhibit a subset in bijection with both the set of c-sortable biclosed sets and the set of c-noncrossing partitions.
Commutation classes of reduced words and higher Bruhat orders for affine permutations
The higher Bruhat orders are partial orders that generalize the weak order on the symmetric group $S_n$, and the second higher Bruhat order is a poset on commutation classes of reduced words for the longest element in $S_n$, where covering relations correspond to braid relations. Constructing analogs in other settings is an area of recent interest, and we present an analog that generalizes any interval $[id,w]$ in the weak order of both the symmetric group and the affine symmetric group. Paralleling the classical case, we show that the second higher Bruhat order is a poset on commutation classes of reduced words for any affine permutation. For the symmetric group, we also establish results for all higher Bruhat orders that are direct analogs of those in the classical case.
A window to the Bruhat order on the affine symmetric group
Given two affine permutations, some results of Lascoux and Deodhar, and independently Jacon-Lecouvey, allow to decide if they are comparable for the strong Bruhat order. These permutations are associated with tuples of core partitions, and the preceding problem is equivalent to compare the Young diagrams in each components for the inclusion. Using abaci, we give an easy rule to compute these Young diagrams one another. We deduce a procedure to compare, for the Bruhat order, two affine permutations in the window notation.
Extended weak order for the affine symmetric group
The extended weak order on a Coxeter group $W$ is the poset of biclosed sets in its root system. In (Barkley-Speyer 2024), it was shown that when $W=\widetilde{S}_n$ is the affine symmetric group, then the extended weak order is a quotient of the lattice $L_n$ of translation-invariant total orderings of the integers. In this article, we give a combinatorial introduction to $L_n$ and the extended weak order on $\widetilde{S}_n$. We show that $L_n$ is an algebraic completely semidistributive lattice. We describe its canonical join representations using a cyclic version of Reading's non-crossing arc diagrams. We also show analogous statements for the lattice of all total orders of the integers, which is the extended weak order on the symmetric group $S_\infty$. A key property of both of these lattices is that they are profinite; we also prove that a profinite lattice is join semidistributive if and only if its compact elements have canonical join representations. We conjecture that the extended weak order of any Coxeter group is a profinite semidistributive lattice.
Blocks of Ariki-Koike algebras and level-rank duality
We study the blocks for Ariki-Koike algebras using a general notion of core for $l$-partitions. We interpret the action of the affine symmetric group on the blocks in the context of level rank duality and study the orbits under this action.

Cluster integrable systems are a broad class of integrable systems modelled on bipartite dimer models on the torus. Many discrete integrable dynamics arise by applying sequences of local transformations, which form the cluster modular group of the cluster integrable system. This cluster modular group was recently characterized by the first author and Inchiostro. There exist some discrete integrable dynamics that make use of non-local transformations associated with geometric $R$-matrices. In this article we characterize the generalized cluster modular group -- which includes both local and non-local transformations -- in terms of extended affine symmetric groups. We also describe the action of the generalized cluster modular group on the spectral data associated with cluster integrable systems.
Polygon recutting as a cluster integrable system

Recutting is an operation on planar polygons defined by cutting a polygon along a diagonal to remove a triangle, and then reattaching the triangle along the same diagonal but with opposite orientation. Recuttings along different diagonals generate an action of the affine symmetric group on the space of polygons. We show that this action is given by cluster transformations and is completely integrable. The integrability proof is based on interpretation of recutting as refactorization of quaternionic polynomials.

The limit weak order on an affine Weyl group was introduced by Lam and Pylyavskyy in their study of total positivity for loop groups. They showed that in the case of the affine symmetric group the minimal elements of this poset coincide with the infinite fully commutative reduced words and with infinite powers of Coxeter elements. We answer several open problems raised there by classifying minimal elements in all affine types and relating these elements to the classes of fully commutative and Coxeter elements. Interestingly, the infinite fully commutative elements correspond to the minuscule and cominuscule nodes of the Dynkin diagram, while the infinite Coxeter elements correspond to a single node, which we call the heavy node, in all affine types other than type $A$.

Combinatorics of Kazhdan-Lusztig cells in affine type $A$ was originally developed by Lusztig, Shi, and Xi. Building on their work, Chmutov, Pylyavskyy, and Yudovina introduced the affine matrix-ball construction (abbreviated AMBC) which gives an analog of Robinson-Schensted correspondence for affine symmetric groups. An alternative approach to Kazhdan-Lusztig theory in affine type $A$ was developed by Blasiak in his work on catabolism. He introduced sign insertion algorithm and conjectured that if one fixes the two-sided cell, the recording tableau of sign insertion process determines uniquely and is determined uniquely by the left cell. In this paper we unite these two approaches by proving Blasiak's conjecture. In the process, we show that certain new operations we introduce called partial rotations connect the elements in the intersection of a left cell and a right cell. Lastly, we investigate the connection between Blasiak's sign insertion and the standardization map acting on the set of semi-standard Young tableaux defined by Lascoux and Schützenberger.

Motivation coming from the study of affine Weyl groups, a structure of ranked poset is defined on the set of circular permutations in $S_n$ (that is, $n$-cycles). It is isomorphic to the poset of so-called admitted vectors, and to an interval in the affine symmetric group $\tilde S_n$ with the weak order. The poset is a semidistributive lattice, and the rank function, whose range is cubic in $n$, is computed by some special formula involving inversions. We prove also some links with Eulerian numbers, triangulations of an $n$-gon, and Young's lattice.

We introduce and study affine analogues of the fixed-point-free (FPF) involution Stanley symmetric functions of Hamaker, Marberg, and Pawlowski. Our methods use the theory of quasiparabolic sets introduced by Rains and Vazirani, and we prove that the subset of FPF-involutions is a quasiparabolic set for the affine symmetric group under conjugation. Using properties of quasiparabolic sets, we prove a transition formula for the affine FPF involution Stanley symmetric functions, analogous to Lascoux and Schützenberger's transition formula for Schubert polynomials. Our results suggest several conjectures and open problems.

For affine symmetric groups we construct finite $W$-graphs corresponding to two-row shapes, and prove their uniqueness. This gives the first non-trivial family of examples of finite $W$-graphs in an affine type. We compare our construction with quotients of periodic $W$-graphs defined by Lusztig. Under certain positivity assumption on the latter the two are shown to be isomorphic.
Asymptotic Hecke algebras and Lusztig-Vogan bijection via affine matrix-ball construction
Affine matrix-ball construction (abbreviated AMBC) was developed by Chmutov, Lewis, Pylyavskyy, and Yudovina as an affine generalization of Robinson-Schensted correspondence. We show that AMBC gives a simple way to compute a distinguished (or Duflo) involution in each Kazhdan-Lusztig cell of affine symmetric groups. We then use AMBC to give the first known canonical presentation for the asymptotic Hecke algebras of extended affine symmetric groups. As an application, we show that AMBC gives a conceptual way to compute Lusztig-Vogan bijection. For the latter we build upon prior works of Achar and Rush.

We study a family of symmetric functions $\hat F_z$ indexed by involutions $z$ in the affine symmetric group. These power series are analogues of Lam's affine Stanley symmetric functions and generalizations of the involution Stanley symmetric functions introduced by Hamaker, Pawlowski, and the first author. Our main result is to prove a transition formula for $\hat F_z$ which can be used to define an affine involution analogue of the Lascoux-Schützenberger tree. Our proof of this formula relies on Lam and Shimozono's transition formula for affine Stanley symmetric functions and some new technical properties of the strong Bruhat order on affine permutations.

The ring of symmetric functions carries the structure of a Hopf algebra. When computing the coproduct of complete symmetric functions $h_λ$ one arrives at weighted sums over reverse plane partitions (RPP) involving binomial coefficients. Employing the action of the extended affine symmetric group at fixed level $n$ we generalise these weighted sums to cylindric RPP and define cylindric complete symmetric functions. The latter are shown to be $h$-positive, that is, their expansions coefficients in the basis of complete symmetric functions are non-negative integers. We state an explicit formula in terms of tensor multiplicities for irreducible representations of the generalised symmetric group. Moreover, we relate the cylindric complete symmetric functions to a 2D topological quantum field theory (TQFT) that is a generalisation of the celebrated $\mathfrak{\widehat{sl}}_n$-Verlinde algebra or Wess-Zumino-Witten fusion ring, which plays a prominent role in the context of vertex operator algebras and algebraic geometry.
Soliton cellular automata associated with infinite reduced words
We consider a family of cellular automata $Φ(n,k)$ associated with infinite reduced elements on the affine symmetric group $\hat S_n$, which is a tropicalization of the rational maps introduced by two of the authors. We study the soliton solutions for $Φ(n,k)$ and explore a `duality' with the $\mathfrak{sl}_n$-box-ball system.

There are left and right actions of the 0-Hecke monoid of the affine symmetric group $\tilde{S}_n$ on involutions whose cycles are labeled periodically by nonnegative integers. Using these actions we construct two bijections, which are length-preserving in an appropriate sense, from the set of involutions in $\tilde{S}_n$ to the set of $\mathbb{N}$-weighted matchings in the $n$-element cycle graph. As an application, we compute a formula for the bivariate generating function counting the involutions in $\tilde S_n$ by length and absolute length. The 0-Hecke monoid of $\tilde{S}_n$ also acts on involutions (without any cycle labelling) by Demazure conjugation. The atoms of an involution $z \in \tilde{S}_n$ are the minimal length permutations $w$ which transform the identity to $z$ under this action. We prove that the set of atoms for an involution in $\tilde{S}_n$ is naturally a bounded, graded poset, and give a formula for the set's minimum and maximum elements. Using these properties, we classify the covering relations in the Bruhat order restricted to involutions in $\tilde{S}_n$.
Rational Shi tableaux and the skew length statistic

We define two refinements of the skew length statistic on simultaneous core partitions. The first one relies on hook lengths and is used to prove a refined version of the theorem stating that the skew length is invariant under conjugation of the core. The second one is equivalent to a generalisation of Shi tableaux to the rational level of Catalan combinatorics. These rational Shi tableaux encode dominant $p$-stable elements in the affine symmetric group. We prove that the rational Shi tableau is injective, that is, each dominant $p$-stable affine permutation is determined uniquely by its Shi tableau. Moreover, we provide a uniform generalisation of rational Shi tableaux to Weyl groups, and conjecture injectivity in the general case.
