We characterize rational series over the free group by using an operator introduced by A. Connes. We prove that rational Malcev--Neumann series posses rational expressions without simplifications. Finally, we develop an effective algorithm for solving the word problem in the free skew field.

The fundamental group of the $2$-dimensional Linial-Meshulam random simplicial complex $Y_2(n,p)$ was first studied by Babson, Hoffman and Kahle. They proved that the threshold probability for simple connectivity of $Y_2(n,p)$ is about $p\approx n^{-1/2}$. In this paper, we show that this threshold probability is at most $p\le (γn)^{-1/2}$, where $γ= 4^4/3^3$, and conjecture that this threshold is sharp.
In fact, we show that $p=(γn)^{-1/2}$ is a sharp threshold probability for the stronger property that every cycle of length $3$ is the boundary of a subcomplex of $Y_2(n,p)$ that is homeomorphic to a disk. Our proof uses the Poisson paradigm, and relies on a classical result of Tutte on the enumeration of planar triangulations.
Antiflag Transitive Collineation Groups
We present known results concerning antiflag transitive collineation groups of finite projective spaces and finite polar spaces.
Topology of random d-clique complexes
For a simplicial complex $X$, the $d$-clique complex $Δ_d(X)$ is the simplicial complex having all subsets of vertices whose $(d + 1)$-subsets are contained by $X$ as its faces. We prove that if $p = n^α$, with $α< \max\{\frac{-1}{k-d +1},-\frac{d+1}{\binom{k}{d}}\}$ or $α> \frac{-1}{\binom{2k+2}{d}}$, then the $k$-th reduced homology group of the random $d$-clique complex $Δ_d(G_d(n,p))$ is asymptotically almost surely vanishing, and if $\frac{-1}{t} < α< \frac{-1}{t+1}$ where $t = (\frac{(d+1)(k+1)}{\binom{(d+1)(k+1)}{d+1}-(k+1)})^{-1}$, then the $(kd + d -1)$-st reduced homology group of $Δ_d(G_d(n,p))$ is asymptotically almost surely nonvanishing. This provides a partial answer to a question posed by Eric Babson.
Simplicity of the automorphism groups of some binary homogeneous structures determined by triangle constraints
We study some amalgamation classes introduced by Cherlin and prove the simplicity of the automorphism groups of the Fra{\"ı}ss{é} limits of these classes. We employ the machinery of stationary independence relations used by Tent and Ziegler.
Counting walks with large steps in an orthant

In the past fifteen years, the enumeration of lattice walks with steps takenin a prescribed set S and confined to a given cone, especially the firstquadrant of the plane, has been intensely studied. As a result, the generating functions ofquadrant walks are now well-understood, provided the allowed steps aresmall, that is $S \subset \{-1, 0,1\}^2$. In particular, having smallsteps is crucial for the definition of a certain group of bi-rationaltransformations of the plane. It has been proved that this group is finite ifand only if the corresponding generating function is D-finite (that is, it satisfies a lineardifferential equation with polynomial coefficients). This group is also thekey to the uniform solution of 19 of the 23 small step models possessing afinite group. In contrast, almost nothing is known for walks with arbitrary steps. In thispaper, we extend the definition of the group, or rather of the associatedorbit, to this general case, and generalize the above uniform solution ofsmall step models. When this approach works, it invariably yields a D-finitegenerating function. We apply it to many quadrant problems, including some infinite families. After developing the general theory, we consider the $13\ 110$ two-dimensionalmodels with steps in $\{-2,-1,0,1\}^2$ having at least one $-2$ coordinate. Weprove that only 240 of them have a finite orbit, and solve 231 of them withour method. The 9 remaining models are the counterparts of the 4 models of thesmall step case that resist the uniform solution method (and which are knownto have an algebraic generating function). We conjecture D-finiteness for their generatingfunctions, but only two of them are likely to be algebraic. We also provenon-D-finiteness for the $12\ 870$ models with an infinite orbit, except for16 of them.
Hypergraph encoding set systems and their linear representations
We study $t$-designs of parameters $(n,k,λ)$ over finite fields as group divisible designs and set systems admitting a transitive action of a linear group encoded in an hypergraph $G$ whose vertex set of size $n$ is partitioned into sets of size $k$ in such a way that every $t$-subset is contained in at least $λ$ subsets of $G$. We relate the problem to the representation theory of the general linear group $\GL(n,\mathbb{F}_{q})$ and the constructions of AG codes over finite fields.

For a random matrix of entries sampled independently from a fairly general distribution in Z we study the probability that the cokernel is isomorphic to a given finite abelian group, or when it is cyclic. This includes the probability that the linear map between the integer lattices given by the matrix is surjective. We show that these statistics are asymptotically universal (as the size of the matrix goes to infinity), given by precise formulas involving zeta values, and agree with distributions defined by Cohen and Lenstra, even when the distribution of matrix entries is very distorted. Our method is robust and works for Laplacians of random digraphs and sparse matrices with the probability of an entry non-zero only n^{-1+epsilon}.
Automorphism groups of designs with $λ=1$
If $G$ is a finite group and $k =q>2$ or $k=q+1$ for a prime power $q$ then, for infinitely many integers $v$, there is a $2$-$(v,k,1)$-design ${\bf D}$ for which ${\rm Aut} {\bf D}\cong G$.

The power graph of a group $G$ is a simple and undirected graph with vertex set $G$ and two distinct vertices are adjacent if one is a power of the other. In this article, we characterize (non-cyclic) finite groups of prime exponent and finite elementary abelian $2$-groups (of rank at least $2$) in terms of their power graphs.

The 'degree of k-step nilpotence' of a finite group G is the proportion of the tuples (x_1,...,x_{k+1}) in G^{k+1} for which the simple commutator [x_1,...,x_{k+1}] is equal to the identity. In this paper we study versions of this for an infinite group G, with the degree of nilpotence defined by sampling G in various natural ways, such as with a random walk, or with a Folner sequence if G is amenable. In our first main result we show that if G is finitely generated then the degree of k-step nilpotence is positive if and only if G is virtually k-step nilpotent. This generalises both an earlier result of the second author treating the case k=1 and a result of Shalev for finite groups, and uses techniques from both of these earlier results. We also show, using the notion of polynomial mappings of groups developed by Leibman and others, that to a large extent the degree of nilpotence does not depend on the method of sampling. As part of our argument we generalise a result of Leibman by showing that if f is a polynomial mapping into a torsion-free nilpotent group then the set of roots of f is sparse in a certain sense. In our second main result we consider the case where G is residually finite but not necessarily finitely generated. Here we show that if the degree of k-step nilpotence of the finite quotients of G is uniformly bounded from below then G is virtually k-step nilpotent, answering a question of Shalev. As part of our proof we show that degree of nilpotence of finite groups is sub-multiplicative with respect to quotients, generalising a result of Gallagher.

For a semisimple Lie algebra admitting a good enumeration, we prove a parametrization for the elements in its Weyl group. As an application, we give a coordinate-free comparison between the crystal graph description (when it is known) and the Lie-theoretic description of the Weyl group multiple Dirichlet series in the stable range.

Set partitions closed under certain operations form a tensor category. They give rise to certain subgroups of the free orthogonal quantum group $O_n^+$, the so called easy quantum groups, introduced by Banica and Speicher in 2009. This correspondence was generalized to two-colored set partitions, which, in addition, assign a black or white color to each point of a set. Globally colorized categories of partitions are those categories that are invariant with respect to arbitrary permutations of colors. This article presents a classification of globally colorized categories. In addition, we show that the corresponding unitary quantum groups can be constructed from the orthogonal ones using tensor complexification.
McEliece-type Cryptosystems over Quasi-cyclic Codes
In this thesis, we study algebraic coding theory based McEliece-type cryptosystems over quasi-cyclic codes. The main goal of this thesis is to construct a cryptosystem that resists quantum Fourier sampling making it quantum secure. We propose a new variant of Niederreiter cryptosystem over rate $\frac{m-1}{m}$ quasi-cyclic codes which is secure against quantum Fourier sampling due to indistinguishability of the hidden subgroup. The proof of indistinguishability is achieved due to two constraints over automorphism group; small size and large minimal degree. Apart from this cryptosystem, we also present a class of $\frac{1}{m}$ quasi-cyclic codes, with small size and large minimal degree of the automorphism group.

A detailed proof is given of a theorem describing the centraliser of a transitive permutation group, with applications to automorphism groups of objects in various categories of maps, hypermaps, dessins, polytopes and covering spaces, where the automorphism group of an object is the centraliser of its monodromy group. An alternative form of the theorem, valid for finite objects, is discussed, with counterexamples based on Baumslag--Solitar groups to show how it fails more generally. The automorphism groups of objects with primitive monodromy groups are described, as are those of non-connected objects.

The wreath product of graphs is a graph composition inspired by the notion of wreath product of groups, with interesting connections with Geometric Group Theory and Probability. This paper is devoted to the description of some degree and distance-based invariants, of large interest in Chemical Graph Theory, for a wreath product of graphs. An explicit formula is obtained for the Zagreb indices, in terms of the Zagreb indices of the factor graphs. A detailed analysis of distances in a wreath product is performed, allowing to describe the antipodal graph and to provide a formula for the Wiener index. Finally, a formula for the Szeged index is obtained. Several explicit examples are given.
A Deformed Quon Algebra

The quon algebra is an approach to particle statistics in order to provide a theory in which the Pauli exclusion principle and Bose statistics are violated by a small amount. The quons are particles whose annihilation and creation operators obey the quon algebra which interpolates between fermions and bosons. In this paper we generalize these models by introducing a deformation of the quon algebra generated by a collection of operators $a_{i,k}$, $(i,k) \in \mathbb{N}^* \times [m]$, on an infinite dimensional vector space satisfying the deformed $q$-mutator relations $a_{j,l} a_{i,k}^† = q a_{i,k}^† a_{j,l} + q^{β_{-k,l}} δ_{i,j}$. We prove the realizability of our model by showing that, for suitable values of $q$, the vector space generated by the particle states obtained by applying combinations of $a_{i,k}$'s and $a_{i,k}^†$'s to a vacuum state $|0\rangle$ is a Hilbert space. The proof particularly needs the investigation of the new statistic $\mathtt{cinv}$ and representations of the colored permutation group.

The center $\mathscr{Z}_n(q)$ of the integral group algebra of the general linear group $GL_n(q)$ over a finite field admits a filtration with respect to the reflection length. We show that the structure constants of the associated graded algebras $\mathscr{G}_n(q)$ are independent of $n$, and this stability leads to a universal stable center with positive integer structure constants which governs the algebras $\mathscr{G}_n(q)$ for all $n$. Various structure constants of the stable center are computed and several conjectures are formulated. Analogous stability properties for symmetric groups and wreath products were established earlier by Farahat-Higman and the second author.
Flow polynomials of a signed graph

In contrast to ordinary graphs, the number of the nowhere-zero group-flows in a signed graph may vary with different groups, even if the groups have the same order. In fact, for a signed graph $G$ and non-negative integer $d$, it was shown that there exists a polynomial $F_d(G,x)$ such that the number of the nowhere-zero $Γ$-flows in $G$ equals $F_d(G,x)$ evaluated at $k$ for every Abelian group $Γ$ of order $k$ with $ε(Γ)=d$, where $ε(Γ)$ is the largest integer $d$ for which $Γ$ has a subgroup isomorphic to $\mathbb{Z}^d_2$. We focus on the combinatorial structure of $Γ$-flows in a signed graph and the coefficients in $F_d(G,x)$. We first define the fundamental directed circuits for a signed graph $G$ and show that all $Γ$-flows (not necessarily nowhere-zero) in $G$ can be generated by these circuits. It turns out that all $Γ$-flows in $G$ can be evenly classified into $2^{ε(Γ)}$-classes specified by the elements of order 2 in $Γ$, each class of which consists of the same number of flows depending only on the order of the group. This gives an explanation for why the number of $Γ$-flows in a signed graph varies with different $ε(Γ)$, and also gives an answer to a problem posed by Beck and Zaslavsky. Secondly, using an extension of Whitney's broken circuit theory we give a combinatorial interpretation of the coefficients in $F_d(G,x)$ for $d=0$, in terms of the broken bonds. As an example, we give an analytic expression of $F_0(G,x)$ for a class of the signed graphs that contain no balanced circuit. Finally, we show that the sets of edges in a signed graph that contain no broken bond form a homogeneous simplicial complex.
Number of Vertices of the Polytope of Integer Partitions and Factorization of the Partitioned Number

The polytope of integer partitions of $n$ is the convex hull of the corresponding $n$-dimensional integer points. Its vertices are of importance because every partition is their convex combination. Computation shows intriguing features of $v(n),$ the number of the polytope vertices: its graph has a saw-toothed shape with the highest peaks at prime $n$'s. We explain the shape of $v(n)$ by the large number of partitions of even $n$'s that were counted by N. Metropolis and P. R. Stein. These partitions are convex combinations of two others. We reveal that divisibility of $n$ by 3 also reduces the value of $v(n),$ which is caused by partitions that are convex combinations of three but not two others, and characterize convex representations of such integer points in arbitrary integral polytope. To approach the prime $n$ phenomenon, we use a specific classification of integers and demonstrate that the graph of $v(n)$ is stratified to layers corresponding to resulting classes. Our main conjecture claims that $v(n)$ depends on collections of divisors of $n.$ We also offer an initial argument for that the number of vertices of the Gomory's master corner polyhedron on the cyclic group has features similar to those of $v(n).$
