To see the forest for the trees: On the infinite divisibility of unlabeled forests
Inspired by Stufler's recent probabilistic proof of Otter's asymptotic number of unlabeled trees, we revisit work of Palmer and Schwenk, and study unlabeled forests from a probabilistic point of view. We show that the number of trees in a random forest converges, with all of its moments, to a shifted compound Poisson. We also find the asymptotic proportion of forests that are trees. The key fact is that the number of trees $t_n$ and forests $f_n$ are related by a Lévy process. As such, the results by Palmer and Schwenk follow by an earlier and far-reaching limit theory by Hawkes and Jenkins. We also show how this limit theory implies results by Schwenk and by Meir and Moon, related to degrees in large random trees. Our arguments apply, more generally, to the enumeration of sub-exponentially weighted integer partitions, or, in fact, any setting where the underlying Lévy process follows the one big jump principle.
Asymptotics for moments of the minimal partition excludant in congruence classes
The minimal excludant statistic, which denotes the smallest positive integer that is not a part of an integer partition, has received great interest in recent years. In this paper, we move on to the smallest positive integer whose frequency is less than a given number. We establish an asymptotic formula for the moments of such generalized minimal excludants that fall in a specific congruence class. In particular, our estimation reveals that the moments associated with a fixed modulus are asymptotically ``equal''.
Convolutive sequences, I: Through the lens of integer partition functions
Motivated by the convolutive behavior of the counting function for partitions with designated summands in which all parts are odd, we consider coefficient sequences $(a_n)_{n\ge 0}$ of primitive eta-products that satisfy the generic convolutive property
\begin{align*}
\sum_{n\ge 0} a_{mn} q^n = \left(\sum_{n\ge 0} a_n q^n\right)^m
\end{align*}
for a specific positive integer $m$. Given the results of an exhaustive search of the Online Encyclopedia of Integer Sequences for such sequences for $m$ up to $6$, we first focus on the case where $m=2$ with our attention mainly paid to the combinatorics of two $2$-convolutive sequences, featuring bijective proofs for both. For other $2$-convolutive sequences discovered in the OEIS, we apply generating function manipulations to show their convolutivity. We also give two examples of $3$-convolutive sequences. Finally, we discuss other convolutive series that are not eta-products.
A Family of Congruences Modulo 7 for Partitions with Monochromatic Even Parts and Multi--Colored Odd Parts
In recent work, Amdeberhan and Merca considered the integer partition function $a(n)$ which counts the number of integer partitions of weight $n$ wherein even parts come in only one color (i.e., they are monochromatic), while the odd parts may appear in one of three colors. One of the results that they proved was that, for all $n\geq 0$, $a(7n+2) \equiv 0 \pmod{7}$. In this work, we generalize this function $a(n)$ by naturally placing it within an infinite family of related partition functions. Using elementary generating function manipulations and classical $q$--series identities, we then prove infinitely many congruences modulo 7 which are satisfied by members of this family of functions.
On the smallest partition associated to a numerical semigroup
The set of hook lengths of an integer partition $λ$ is the complement of some numerical semigroup $S$. There has been recent interest in studying the number of partitions with a given set of hook lengths. Very little is known about the distribution of sizes of this finite set of partitions. We focus on the problem of determining the size of the smallest partition with its set of hook lengths equal to $\mathbb{N}\setminus S$.
MacMahon's Double Vision: Partition Diamonds Revisited
Plane partition diamonds were introduced by Andrews, Paule, and Riese (2001) as part of their study of MacMahon's $Ω$-operator in search for integer partition identities. More recently, Dockery, Jameson, Sellers, and Wilson (2024) extended this concept to $d$-fold partition diamonds and found their generating function in a recursive form. We approach $d$-fold partition diamonds via Stanley's (1972) theory of $P$-partitions and give a closed formula for a bivariate generalization of the Dockery--Jameson--Sellers--Wilson generating function; its main ingredient is the Euler--Mahonian polynomial encoding descent statistics of permutations.
Nim on Integer Partitions and Hyperrectangles
We describe PNim and RNim, two variants of Nim in which piles of tokens are replaced with integer partitions or hyperrectangles. In PNim, the players choose one of the integer partitions and remove a positive number of rows or a positive number of columns from the Young diagram of that partition. In RNim, players choose one of the hyperrectangles and reduce one of its side lengths.
For PNim, we find a tight upper bound for the Sprague-Grundy values of partitions and characterize partitions with Sprague-Grundy value one. For RNim, we provide a formula for the Sprague-Grundy value of any position. We classify both games in the Conway-Gurvich-Ho hierarchy.
An Introduction to Algebraic Combinatorics
This is an introduction to algebraic combinatorics, written for a quarter-long graduate course. It starts with a rigorous introduction to formal power series with some combinatorial applications, then discusses integer partitions (proving Jacobi's triple product identity), permutations (Lehmer codes, cycles) and subtractive methods (alternating sums, cancellations and inclusion-exclusion principles, with a particular focus on sign-reversing involutions and determinants). The last chapter introduces symmetric polynomials and proves the Littlewood--Richardson rule using Bender--Knuth involutions (a la Stembridge).
The appendix contains over 200 exercises (without solutions).
A refined view of a curious identity for partitions into odd parts with designated summands
In 2002, Andrews, Lewis, and Lovejoy introduced the combinatorial objects which they called partitions with designated summands. These are constructed by taking unrestricted integer partitions and designating exactly one of each occurrence of a part. In the same work, they also considered the restricted partitions with designated summands wherein all parts must be odd, and they denoted the corresponding function by $\mathrm{PDO}(n)$.

A century ago, P. A. MacMahon introduced two families of generating functions, $$ \sum_{1\leq n_1<n_2<\cdots<n_t}\prod_{k=1}^t\frac{q^{n_k}}{(1-q^{n_k})^2} \quad\text{ and } \sum_{\substack{1\leq n_1<n_2<\cdots<n_t\\ \text{$n_1,n_2,\dots,n_t$ odd}}}\prod_{k=1}^t\frac{q^{n_k}}{(1-q^{n_k})^2}, $$ which connect sum-of-divisors functions and integer partitions. These have recently drawn renewed attention. In particular, Amdeberhan, Andrews, and Tauraso extended the first family above by defining $$ U_t(a,q):=\sum_{1\leq n_1<n_2<\cdots<n_t}\prod_{k=1}^t\frac{q^{n_k}}{1+aq^{n_k}+q^{2n_k}} $$ for $a=0, \pm1, \pm2$ and investigated various properties, including some congruences satisfied by the coefficients of the power series representations for $U_t(a,q)$. These arithmetic aspects were subsequently expanded upon by the authors of the present work. Our goal here is to generalize the second family of generating functions, where the sums run over odd integers, and then apply similar techniques to show new infinite families of Ramanujan--like congruences for the associated power series coefficients.
Signed Partitions and Rogers-Ramanujan type Identities
George Andrews [\emph{Bull. Amer. Math. Soc.}, 2007, 561--573] introduced the idea of a \emph{signed partiton} of an integer; similar to an ordinary integer partitions, but where some of the parts could be negative. Further, Andrews reinterpreted the classical Göllnitz--Gordon partition identities in terms of signed partitions. In the present work, we provide interpretations of the sum sides of Rogers--Ramanujan type identities, including a new signed partition interpretation of the Göllnitz--Gordon identities, different from that of Andrews. Both analytic and bijective proofs are presented.
Combinatorial proofs for partitions with repeated smallest part
Recently, Andrews and El Bachraoui considered the number of integer partitions whose smallest part is repeated exactly $k$ times and the remaining parts are not repeated. They presented several interesting results and posed questions regarding combinatorial proofs for these identities. In this paper, we establish bijections to provide combinatorial proofs for these results.
Six types of separable integer partitions
Recently, Andrews introduced separable integer partition classes and studied some well-known theorems. In this atricle, we will investigate six types of partitions from the view of the point of separable integer partition classes.
Invariants of nested Hilbert and Quot schemes on surfaces
Let $(S,p)$ be a smooth pointed surface. In the first part of this paper we study motivic invariants of punctual nested Hilbert schemes attached to $(S,p)$ using the Hilbert-Samuel stratification. We compute two infinite families of motivic classes of punctual nested Hilbert schemes, corresponding to nestings of the form $(2,n)$ and $(3,n)$. As a consequence, we are able to give a lower bound for the number of irreducible components of $S_p^{[2,n]}$ and $S_p^{[3,n]}$.
In the second part of this paper we characterise completely the generating series of Euler characteristics of all nested Hilbert and Quot schemes. This is achieved via a novel technique, involving differential operators modelled on the enumerative problem, which we introduce. From this analysis, we deduce that in the Hilbert scheme case the generating series is the product of a rational function by the celebrated Euler's product formula counting integer partitions. In higher rank, we derive functional equations relating the nested Quot scheme generating series to the rank one series, corresponding to nested Hilbert schemes.

We investigate some weighted integer partitions whose generating functions are double-series. We will establish closed formulas for these $q$-double series and deduce that their coefficients are non-negative. This leads to inequalities among integer partitions.
Distribution of the sum of reciprocal parts for distinct parts partitions
Given an integer partition of $n$ into distinct parts, the sum of the reciprocal parts is an example of an egyptian fraction. We study this statistic under the uniform measure on distinct parts partitions of $n$ and prove that, as $n \to \infty$, the sum of reciprocal parts is distributed away from its mean like a random harmonic sum.

This paper gives new, efficient algorithms for approximate uniform sampling of contingency tables and integer partitions. The algorithms use the Burnside process, a general algorithm for sampling a uniform orbit of a finite group acting on a finite set. We show that a technique called `lumping' can be used to derive efficient implementations of the Burnside process. For both contingency tables and partitions, the lumped processes have far lower per step complexity than the original Markov chains. We also define a second Markov chain for partitions called the reflected Burnside process. The reflected Burnside process maintains the computational advantages of the lumped process but empirically converges to the uniform distribution much more rapidly. By using the reflected Burnside process we can easily sample uniform partitions of size $10^{10}$.
Statistics for random representations of Lie algebras
In this paper we investigate how a typical, large-dimensional representation looks for a complex Lie algebra. In particular, we study the family $\mathfrak{sl}_{r+1}(\mathbb{C})$ of Lie algebras for $r \geq 2$ and derive asymptotic probability distributions for the multiplicity of small irreducible representations, as well as the largest dimension, the largest height, and the total number of irreducible representations appearing in the decomposition of a representation sampled uniformly from all representations with the same dimension. This provides a natural generalization to the similar statistical studies of integer partitions, which forms the case $r=1$ of our considerations and where one has a rich toolkit ranging from combinatorial methods to approaches utilizing the theory of modular forms. We perform our analysis by extending the statistical mechanics inspired approaches in the case of partitions to the infinite family here.
Quasimodular Asymptotics of Spherical Integrals
We show that the spherical integral of the Circular Unitary Ensemble converges in expectation to Euler's generating function for integer partitions, and that subleading corrections to this high-dimensional limit are quasimodular forms.
"Overpartitionized" Rogers--Ramanujan type identities
Many classical $q$-series identities, such as the Rogers--Ramanujan identities, yield combinatorial interpretations in terms of integer partitions. Here we consider algebraically manipulating some of the classical $q$-series to yield natural combinatorial interpretations in terms of overpartitions. Bijective proofs are supplied as well.
