The coinvariant algebra is a quotient of the polynomial ring $\mathbb{Q}[x_1,\ldots,x_n]$ whose algebraic properties are governed by the combinatorics of permutations of length $n$. A word $w = w_1 \dots w_n$ over the positive integers is packed if whenever $i > 2$ appears as a letter of $w$, so does $i-1$. We introduce a quotient $S_n$ of $\mathbb{Q}[x_1,\ldots,x_n]$ which is governed by the combinatorics of packed words. We relate our quotient $S_n$ to the generalized coinvariant rings of Haglund, Rhoades, and Shimozono as well as the superspace coinvariant ring.

Richardson varieties are obtained as intersections of Schubert and opposite Schubert varieties. We provide a new family of toric degenerations of Richardson varieties inside Grassmannians by studying Gröbner degenerations of their corresponding ideals. These degenerations are parametrised by block diagonal matching fields in the sense of Sturmfels-Zelevinsky. We associate a weight vector to each block diagonal matching field and study its corresponding initial ideal. In particular, we characterise when such ideals are toric, hence providing a family of toric degenerations for Richardson varieties.
Given a Richardson variety $X_{w}^v$ and a weight vector ${\bf w}_\ell$ arising from a matching field, we consider two ideals: an ideal $G_{k,n,\ell}|_w^v$ obtained by restricting the initial of the Plücker ideal to a smaller polynomial ring, and a toric ideal defined as the kernel of a monomial map $φ_\ell|_w^v$. We first characterise the monomial-free ideals of form $G_{k,n,\ell}|_w^v$. Then we construct a family of tableaux in bijection with semi-standard Young tableaux which leads to a monomial basis for the corresponding quotient ring. Finally, we prove that when $G_{k,n,\ell}|_w^v$ is monomial-free and the initial ideal in$_{{\bf w}_\ell}(I(X_w^v))$ is quadratically generated, then all three ideals in$_{{\bf w}_\ell}(I(X_w^v))$, $G_{k,n,\ell}|_w^v$ and ker$(φ_\ell|_w^v)$ coincide, and provide a toric degeneration of $X_w^v$.
Identities for Schur-type determinants and pfaffians
We give a simple formula for some determinants, and an analogous formula for pfaffians, both of which are polynomial identities. The second involve some expressions that interpolate between determinants and pfaffians. We give several tableau formulas for difference operators in Types A and C, as well as other operators that appear in the "enriched", or "back-stable" Schubert polynomials. There are also tableau formulas for the enriched Schubert polynomials for vexillary and $321$-avoiding permutations.

In this paper, we study the flow of signals through linear paths with the nonlinear condition that a node emits a signal when it receives external stimuli or when two incoming signals from other nodes arrive coincidentally with a combined amplitude above a fixed threshold. Sets of such nodes form a polychrony group and can sometimes lead to cascades. In the context of this work, cascades are polychrony groups in which the number of nodes activated as a consequence of other nodes is greater than the number of externally activated nodes. The difference between these two numbers is the so-called profit.
Given the initial conditions, we predict the conditions for a vertex to activate at a prescribed time and provide an algorithm to efficiently reconstruct a cascade. We develop a dictionary between polychrony groups and graph theory. We call the graph corresponding to a cascade a chinampa. This link leads to a topological classification of chinampas. We enumerate the chinampas of profits zero and one and the description of a family of chinampas isomorphic to a family of partially ordered sets, which implies that the enumeration problem of this family is equivalent to computing the Stanley-order polynomials of those partially ordered sets.

In this paper, we introduce the notion of the quadratic graph, that is a graph whose eigenvalues are integral or quadratic algebraic integral, and determine nine infinite families of quadratic starlike trees, which are just all the quadratic starlike trees including integral starlike trees. Thus the quadratic starlike trees are completely characterized, and moreover, the display expressions for the characteristic polynomials of the quadratic starlike trees are also given.
A central limit theorem for singular graphons
We associate to a graphon $γ$ the sequence of $W$-random graphs $(G_n(γ))_{n \geq 1}$. We say that the graphon is singular if, for any finite graph $F$, the homomorphism density $t(F,G_n(γ))$ has a variance of order $O(n^{-2})$. This behavior is singular because generically, the density of a fixed finite graph $F$ in a $W$-random graph has a variance of order $O(n^{-1})$. We conjecture that the only singular graphons are the constant graphons $γ_p$ with $p \in [0,1]$, corresponding to the Erdős-Rényi random graphs $G(n,p)$. In this paper, we investigate the general properties of the singular graphons, and we show that they share many properties with the Erdős-Rényi random graphs. In particular, if $γ$ is a singular graphon, then the scaled densities $n(t(F,G_n(γ))-\mathbb{E}[t(F,G_n(γ))])$ converge in joint distribution. This generalises the central limit theorem satisfied by the Erdős-Rényi random graphs $G(n,p)$; however, the limiting distribution might be non-Gaussian if the conjecture does not hold. We also establish an equation satisfied by the characteristic polynomial of the Laplacian of the graph $G_n(γ)$ associated to a singular graphon; this opens the way to a spectral approach of the conjecture.

We use a Hamiltonian (transition matrix) description of height-restricted Dyck paths on the plane in which generating functions for the paths arise as matrix elements of the propagator to evaluate the length and area generating function for paths with arbitrary starting and ending points, expressing it as a rational combination of determinants. Exploiting a connection between random walks and quantum exclusion statistics that we previously established, we express this generating function in terms of grand partition functions for exclusion particles in a finite harmonic spectrum and present an alternative, simpler form for its logarithm that makes its polynomial structure explicit.

For a field $R$ of characteristic $p\ge 0$ and a matrix $c$ in the full $n\times n$ matrix algebra $M_n(R)$ over $R$, let $S_n(c,R)$ be the centralizer algebra of $c$ in $M_n(R)$. We show that $S_n(c,R)$ is a Frobenius-finite, $1$-Auslander-Gorenstein, and gendo-symmetric algebra, and that the extension $S_n(c,R)\subseteq M_n(R)$ is separable and Frobenius. Further, we study the isomorphism problem of invariant matrix algebras. Let $σ$ be a permutation in the symmetric group $Σ_n$ and $c_σ$ the corresponding permutation matrix in $M_n(R)$. We give sufficient and necessary conditions for the invariant algebra $S_n(c_σ,R)$ to be semisimple. If $R$ is an algebraically closed field, we establish a combinatoric characterization of when two semisimple invariant $R$-algebras are isomorphic in terms of the cycle types of permutations.

PQ-type adjacency polytopes $\nabla^{\rm PQ}_G$ are lattice polytopes arising from finite graphs $G$. There is a connection between $\nabla^{\rm PQ}_G$ and the engineering problem known as power-flow study, which models the balance of electric power on a network of power generation. In particular, the normalized volume of $\nabla^{\rm PQ}_G$ plays a central role. In the present paper, we focus the case where $G$ is a join graph. In fact, formulas of the $h^*$-polynomial and the normalized volume of $\nabla^{\rm PQ}_G$ of a join graph $G$ are presented. Moreover, we give explicit formulas of the $h^*$-polynomial and the normalized volume of $\nabla^{\rm PQ}_G$ when $G$ is a complete multipartite graph or a wheel graph.
Cubic Equations Through the Looking Glass of Sylvester

One can hardly believe that there is still something to be said about cubic equations. To dodge this doubt, we will instead try and say something about Sylvester. He doubtless found a way of solving cubic equations. As mentioned by Rota, it was the only method in this vein that he could remember. We realize that in the generic case Sylvester's magnificent approach aimed at reduced cubic equations boils down to an easy identity expressing a cubic polynomial as a sum of two third powers of linear forms. This leads to Cardano's formula for cubic equations involving the third roots of unity.

Our main goal is to compute the decomposition of arbitrary Kronecker powers of the Harmonics of $S_n$. To do this, we give a new way of decomposing the character for the action of $S_n$ on polynomial rings with $k$ sets of $n$ variables. There are two aspects to this decomposition. The first is algebraic, in which formulas can be given for certain restrictions from $GL_n$ to $S_n$ occurring in Schur-Weyl duality. The second is combinatorial. We give a generalization of the $comaj$ statistic on permutations which includes the $comaj$ statistic on standard tableaux. This statistic allows us to write a generalized principal evaluation for Schur functions and Gessel Fundamental quasisymmetric functions.
Some basic results on finite linear recurring sequence subgroups

An $f$-subgroup is a linear recurring sequence subgroup, a multiplicative subgroup of a field whose elements can be generated (without repetition) by a linear recurrence relation, with characteristic polynomial $f$. It is called non-standard if it can be generated in a non-cyclic way (that is, not in the order $α^i, α^{i+1}, α^{i+2} \ldots$ for a zero $α$ of $f$), and standard otherwise. We will show that a finite $f$-subgroup is necessarily generated by a subset of the zeros of $f$. We use this result to improve on a recent theorem of Brison and Nogueira. A old question by Brison and Nogueira asks if there exist automatically non-standard $f$-subgroups, $f$-subgroups that cannot be generated by a zero of $f$. We answer that question affirmatively by constructing infinitely many examples.

The subject of this paper are operators represented on a Fock space which act only on the two leading components of the tensor. We unify the constructions from arXiv:math/0702158, arXiv:0709.4334, arXiv:0812.0895, and arXiv:1003.2998, and extend a number of results from these papers to our more general setting. The results include the quadratic relation satisfied by (the kernel of) the free cumulant generating function, the resolvent form of the generating function for the Wick polynomials, and classification results for the case when the vacuum state on the operator algebra is tracial. We handle the generating functions in infinitely many variables by considering their matrix-valued versions.
Convolutions for Stirling numbers, Lah numbers, and binomial coefficients
We present various identities in the form of convolutions involving Stirling numbers of both kinds, Lah numbers, and binomial coefficients. Certain convolution polynomials are discussed also. The proofs are based on several series transformation formulas.

Recently the Ihara zeta function for the finite graph was extended to infinite one by Clair and Chinta et al. In this paper, we obtain the same expressions by a different approach from their analytical method. Our new approach is to take a suitable limit of a sequence of finite graphs via the Konno-Sato theorem. This theorem is related to explicit formulas of characteristic polynomials for the evolution matrix of the Grover walk. The walk is one of the most well-investigated quantum walks which are quantum counterpart of classical random walks. We call the relation between the Grover walk and the zeta function based on the Konno-Sato theorem "Grover/Zeta Correspondence" here.

We consider a sequence of four variable polynomials by refining Stieltjes' continued fraction for Eulerian polynomials. Using combinatorial theory of Jacobi-type continued fractions and bijections we derive various combinatorial interpretations in terms of permutation statistics for these polynomials, which include special kinds of descents and excedances in a recent paper of Baril and Kirgizov. As a by-product, we derive several equidistribution results for permutation statistics, which enables us to confirm and strengthen a recent conjecture of Vajnovszki and also to obtain several compagnion permutation statistics for two bistatistics in a conjecture of Baril and Kirgizov.
A Trivariate Dichromate Polynomial for Digraphs

We consider the large sieve inequality for sparse sequences of moduli and give a general result depending on the additive energy (both symmetric and asymmetric) of the sequence of moduli. For example, in the case of monomials $f(X) = X^k$ this allows us to improve, in some ranges of the parameters, the previous bounds of S. Baier and L. Zhao (2005), K.~Halupczok (2012, 2015, 2018) and M.~Munsch (2020). We also consider moduli defined by polynomials $f(X) \in \mathbb{Z}[X]$, Piatetski-Shapiro sequences and general convex sequences. We then apply our results to obtain a version of the Bombieri--Vinogradov theorem with Piatetski-Shapiro moduli improving the level of distribution of R.~C.~Baker (2014).

In this paper, we exhibit an irreducible Markov chain $M$ on the edge $k$-colorings of bipartite graphs based on certain properties of the solution space. We show that diameter of this Markov chain grows linearly with the number of edges in the graph. We also prove a polynomial upper bound on the inverse of acceptance ratio of the Metropolis-Hastings algorithm when the algorithm is applied on $M$ with the uniform distribution of all possible edge $k$-colorings of $G$. A special case of our results is the solution space of the possible completions of Latin rectangles.

Combinatorial properties of zeons have been applied to graph enumeration problems, graph colorings, routing problems in communication networks, partition-dependent stochastic integrals, and Boolean satisfiability. Power series of elementary zeon functions are naturally reduced to finite sums by virtue of the nilpotent properties of zeons. Further, the zeon extension of any analytic complex function has zeon polynomial representations on associated equivalence classes of zeons.
In this paper, zeros of polynomials over complex zeons are considered. Existing results for real zeon polynomials are extended to the complex case and new results are established. In particular, a fundamental theorem of zeon algebra is established for spectrally simple zeros of complex zeon polynomials, and an algorithm is presented that allows one to find spectrally simple zeros when they exist. As an application, inverses of zeon extensions of analytic functions are computed using polynomial methods.
