Poset topology, moves, and Bruhat interval polytope lattices
We study the poset topology of lattices arising from orientations of 1-skeleta of directionally simple polytopes, with Bruhat interval polytopes $Q_{e,w}$ as our main example. We show that the order complex $Δ((u,v)_w)$ of an interval therein is homotopy equivalent to a sphere if $Q_{u,v}$ is a face of $Q_{e,w}$ and is otherwise contractible. This significantly generalizes the known case of the permutahedron. We also show that saturated chains from $u$ to $v$ in such lattices are connected, and in fact highly connected, under moves corresponding to flipping across a 2-face. When $w$ is a Grassmannian permutation, this implies a strengthening of the restriction of Postnikov's move-equivalence theorem to the class of BCFW bridge decomposable plabic graphs.

The chain algebra of a pure poset
We extend the notion of chain algebra, originally defined in \cite{GN} for finite distributive lattices, to that of finite pure posets. We show this algebra corresponds to the Ehrhart ring of a (0,1)-polytope, termed the chain polytope, and characterize the indecomposability of this polytope. Furthermore, we prove the normality of the chain algebra, describe its canonical module, and extend one of main results from \cite{GN} by computing its Krull dimension. For width-2 pure posets, we determine the algebra's regularity and conditions for it to be Gorenstein or nearly Gorenstein.
Polyhedral volume ratios, Izmestiev's Colin de Verdiere matrices and Spectral Gaps
We present a relation between volumes of certain lower dimensional simplices associated to a full-dimensional primal and polar dual polytope in R^k. We then discuss an application of this relation to a geometric construction of a Colin de Verdiere matrix by Ivan Izmestiev. In the second part of the paper, we introduce a variation of vertex transitive polytopes, translate their associated Colin de Verdiere matrices into random walk matrices, and investigate extremality properties of the spectral gaps of these random walk matrices in two concrete examples - permutahedra of Coxeter groups and polytopes associated to the pure rotational tetrahedral group - where maximal spectral gaps correspond to equilateral polytopes.

The Ehrhart $h^*$-polynomials of positroid polytopes
A positroid is a matroid realized by a matrix such that all maximal minors are non-negative. Positroid polytopes are matroid polytopes of positroids. In particular, they are lattice polytopes. The Ehrhart polynomial of a lattice polytope counts the number of integer points in the dilation of that polytope. The Ehrhart series is the generating function of the Ehrhart polynomial, a rational function with a numerator called the $h^*$-polynomial. We give explicit formulas for the $h^*$-polynomials of an arbitrary positroid polytope regarding permutation descents. Our result generalizes that of Early, Kim, and Li for hypersimplices.

Graph minors, Ehrhart theory, and a monotonicity property
We study the extended root polytope associated to a directed graph. We show that under the operations of deletion and contraction of an edge of the graph, none of the coefficients of the $h^*$-polynomial of the associated extended root polytope increase. We examine cases when the $h^*$-polynomial does not change, for instance when contracting the edges of a minimal directed join in a digraph whose lattice polytope has the Gorenstein property.

A new class of magic positive Ehrhart polynomials of reflexive polytopes
The magic positivity of Ehrhart polynomials is a useful tool for proving the real-rootedness of the $h^\ast$-polynomials. In this paper, we provide a new class of reflexive polytopes whose Ehrhart polynomials are magic positive. First, we prove that the Ehrhart polynomials of Stasheff polytopes are magic positive. Second, we provide a partial proof of the magic positivity of the Ehrhart polynomials of the dual polytopes of the symmetric edge polytopes of cycles.

Listing spanning trees of outerplanar graphs by pivot-exchanges
We prove that the spanning trees of any outerplanar triangulation $G$ can be listed so that any two consecutive spanning trees differ in an exchange of two edges that share an end vertex. For outerplanar graphs $G$ with faces of arbitrary lengths (not necessarily 3) we establish a similar result, with the condition that the two exchanged edges share an end vertex or lie on a common face. These listings of spanning trees are obtained from a simple greedy algorithm that can be implemented efficiently, i.e., in time $\mathcal{O}(n \log n)$ per generated spanning tree, where $n$ is the number of vertices of $G$. Furthermore, the listings correspond to Hamilton paths on the 0/1-polytope that is obtained as the convex hull of the characteristic vectors of all spanning trees of $G$.

Unimodular Smooth Fano Polytopes and their Relation with Ewald Conditions
Smooth Fano polytopes (SFP) play an important role in toric geometry and combinatorics. In this paper, we introduce a specific subcollection of them, i.e., the unimodular smooth Fano polytopes (USFP). In Section 2, they are verified to satisfy the three (weak, strong, star) Ewald conditions. Besides, a characterisation of USFPs is provided as a corollary of the famous Seymour's decomposition theorem. Then, we briefly introduce the works by Luis Crespo on deeply monotone polytopes and give a proof of the claim that any deeply monotone polytope is in fact the dual polytope of some USFP. In other words, we extend his results on deeply monotone polytopes to the case of USFPs.

Acyclotopes and Tocyclotopes
There is a well-established dictionary between zonotopes, hyperplane arrangements, and their (oriented) matroids. Arguably one of the most famous examples is the class of graphical zonotopes, also called acyclotopes, which encode subzonotopes of the type-A root polytope, the permutahedron. Stanley (1991) gave a general interpretation of the coefficients of the Ehrhart polynomial (integer-point counting function for a polytope) of a zonotope via linearly independent subsets of its generators. Applying this to the graphical case shows that Ehrhart coefficients count induced forests of the graph of fixed sizes. Our first goal is to extend and popularize this story to other root systems, which on the combinatorial side is encoded by signed graphs analogously to the work by Greene and Zaslavsky (1983). We compute the Ehrhart polynomial of the acyclotope in the signed case, and we give a matroid-dual construction, giving rise to tocyclotopes, and compute their Ehrhart polynomials. Applying the same duality construction to a general integral matrix gives rise to a lattice Gale zonotope, whose face structure was studies by McMullen (1971) and whose duality nature is a special instance of D'Adderio--Moci's arithmetic matroids. We describe its Ehrhart polynomials in terms of the given matrix.

On the $f$-vectors of flow polytopes for the complete graph
The Chan-Robbins-Yuen polytope ($CRY_n$) of order $n$ is a face of the Birkhoff polytope of doubly stochastic matrices that is also a flow polytope of the directed complete graph $K_{n+1}$ with netflow $(1,0,0, \ldots , 0, -1)$. The volume and lattice points of this polytope have been actively studied, however its face structure has received less attention. We give generating functions and explicit formulas for computing the $f$-vector by using Hille's (2003) result bijecting faces of a flow polytope to certain graphs, as well as Andresen-Kjeldsen's (1976) result that enumerates certain subgraphs of the directed complete graph. We extend our results to flow polytopes of the complete graph having arbitrary (non-negative) netflow vectors and recover the $f$-vector of the Tesler polytope of Mészáros--Morales--Rhoades (2017).
A lower bound theorem for $d$-polytopes with $2d+2$ vertices
We establish a lower bound theorem for the number of $k$-faces ($1\le k\le d-2$) in a $d$-dimensional polytope $P$ (abbreviated as a $d$-polytope) with $2d+2$ vertices, extending the previously known case for $k=1$. We identify all minimisers for $d\le 5$. Two distinct lower bounds emerge, depending on the number of facets of $P$. When $P$ has precisely $d+2$ facets, the lower bound is tight when $d$ is odd. If $P$ has at least $d+3$ facets, the lower bound is always tight, and equality holds for some $1\le k\le d-2$ only when $P$ has precisely $d+3$ facets. Moreover, for $1\le k\le \ceil{d/3}-2$, the minimisers among $d$-polytopes with $2d+2$ vertices have precisely $d+3$ facets, while for $\floor{0.4d}\le k\le d-1$, the lower bound arises from $d$-polytopes with $d+2$ facets.

A variation of the Morris constant term identity
Morris constant term identity is important due to its equivalence with the well-known Selberg integral. We find a variation of the Morris constant term, denoted $h_n(t)$, in the study of the Ehrhart polynomial $H_n(t)$ of the $n$-th Birkhoff polytope, which consists of all doubly stochastic matrices of order $n$. The constant term $h_n(t)$ corresponds to a particular constant term in the study of $H_n(t)$. We give a characterization of $h_n(t)$ as a polynomial of degree $(n-1)^2$ with additional nice properties involving the Morris constant term identity. We also construct a recursion of $h_n(t)$ using a similar technique for the proof of the Morris constant term identity by Baldoni-Silva and Vergne, and by Xin. This method is applicable to any integer $n\geq 3$. We have produced explicit formulas of $h_n(t)$ for $3 \le n \le 29$ without difficulty.

Lattice polytopes with the minimal volume
Published in Australasian J. Combin. 90 (2024), 357--362 • Search Publication
Let $\mathcal{P} \subset \mathbb{R}^d$ be a lattice polytope of dimension $d$. Let $b(\mathcal{P})$ denote the number of lattice points belonging to the boundary of $\mathcal{P}$ and $c(\mathcal{P})$ that to the interior of $\mathcal{P}$. It follows from the lower bound theorem of Ehrhart polynomials that, when $c > 0$, \[ {\rm vol}(\mathcal{P}) \geq (d \cdot c(\mathcal{P}) + (d-1) \cdot b(\mathcal{P}) - d^2 + 2)/d!, \] where ${\rm vol}(\mathcal{P})$ is the (Lebesgue) volume of $\mathcal{P}$. Pick's formula guarantees that, when $d = 2$, the above inequality is an equality. In the present paper several classes of lattice polytopes for which the equality here holds will be presented.

Proof of a conjecture on graph polytope
Graph polytopes arising from vertex-weighted graphs were first introduced by Bóna, Ju, and Yoshida. We prove a conjecture stating that for any simple connected graph, the numerator polynomial of the Ehrhart series of its graph polytope is palindromic, using Stanley's reciprocity theorem. Furthermore, we introduce hypergraph polytopes and establish that every simple, connected, unimodular hypergraph polytope is an integer polytope. Additionally, for simple connected uniform hypergraph polytopes, we demonstrate that the numerator polynomial of their Ehrhart series is palindromic.

A degenerate version of Brion's formula
Let $\mathfrak{p} \subset V$ be a polytope and $ξ\in V_{\mathbb{C}}^*$. We obtain an expression for $I(\mathfrak{p}; α) := \int_{\mathfrak{p}} e^{\langle α, x \rangle} dx$ as a sum of meromorphic functions in $α\in V^*_{\mathbb{C}}$ parametrized by the faces $\mathfrak{f}$ of $\mathfrak{p}$ on which $\langle ξ, x \rangle$ is constant. Each term only depends on the local geometry of $\mathfrak{p}$ near $\mathfrak{f}$ (and on $ξ$) and is holomorphic at $α= ξ$. When $\langle ξ, \cdot \rangle$ is only constant on the vertices of $\mathfrak{p}$ our formula reduces to Brion's formula. Suppose $\mathfrak{p}$ is a rational polytope with respect to a lattice $Λ$. We obtain an expression for $S(\mathfrak{p}; α) := \sum_{λ\in \mathfrak{p} \cap Λ} e^{\langle α, λ\rangle}$ as a sum of meromorphic functions parametrized by the faces $\mathfrak{f}$ on which $e^{\langle ξ, x \rangle} = 1$ on a finite index sublattice of $\text{lin}(\mathfrak{f}) \cap Λ$. Each term only depends on the local geometry of $\mathfrak{p}$ near $\mathfrak{f}$ (and on $ξ$ and $Λ$) and is holomorphic at $α= ξ$. When $e^{\langle ξ, \cdot \rangle} \neq 1$ at any non-zero lattice point on a line through the origin parallel to an edge of $\mathfrak{p}$, our formula reduces to Brion's formula, and when $ξ= 0$, it reduces to the Ehrhart quasi-polynomial. Our formulas are particularly useful for understanding how $I(\mathfrak{p}(h); ξ)$ and $S(\mathfrak{p}(h); ξ)$ vary in a family of polytopes $\mathfrak{p}(h)$ with the same normal fan. When considering dilates of a fixed polytope, our formulas may be viewed as polytopal analogues of Laplace's method and the method of stationary phase. Such expressions naturally show up in analysis on symmetric spaces and affine buildings.

Hypergraph associahedra and compactifications of moduli spaces of points
We prove that every Hassett compactification of the moduli space of weighted stable rational curves that admits both a reduction map from the Losev-Manin compactification and a reduction map to projective space is a toric variety, whose corresponding polytope is a hypergraph associahedron (also known as a nestohedron). In addition, we present an analogous result for the moduli space of labeled weighted points in affine space up to translation and scaling. These results are interconnected, and we make their relationship explicit through the concept of ``inflation" of a hypergraph associahedron.

Self-Reachable Configuration Polytopes for Trees
We study lattice polytopes which arise as the convex hull of chip vectors for \textit{self-reachable} chip configurations on a tree $T$. We show that these polytopes always have the integer decomposition property and characterize the vertex sets of these polytopes. Additionally, in the case of self-reachable configurations with the smallest possible number of chips, we show that these polytopes are unimodularly equivalent to a unit cube.

Face Numbers of Shellable CW Balls and Spheres
Let $\mathscr{X}$ be the boundary complex of a $(d+1)$-polytope, and let $ρ(d+1,k) = \frac{1}{2}[{\lceil (d+1)/2 \rceil \choose d-k} + {\lfloor (d+1)/2 \rfloor \choose d-k}]$. Recently, the author, answering Bárány's question from 1998, proved that for all $\lfloor \frac{d-1}{2} \rfloor \leq k \leq d$, \[ f_k(\mathscr{X}) \geq ρ(d+1,k)f_d(\mathscr{X}). \] We prove a generalization: if $\mathscr{X}$ is a shellable, strongly regular CW sphere or CW ball of dimension $d$, then for all $\lfloor \frac{d-1}{2} \rfloor \leq k \leq d$, \[ f_k(\mathscr{X}) \geq ρ(d+1,k)f_d(\mathscr{X}) + \frac{1}{2}f_k(\partial \mathscr{X}), \] with equality precisely when $k=d$ or when $k=d-1$ and $\mathscr{X}$ is simplicial. We further prove that if $\mathscr{S}$ is a strongly regular CW sphere of dimension $d$, and the face poset of $\mathscr{S}$ is both CL-shellable and dual CL-shellable, then $f_k(\mathscr{S}) \geq \min\{f_0(\mathscr{S}),f_d(\mathscr{S})\}$ for all $0 \leq k \leq d$.

Deterministic approximation for the volume of the truncated fractional matching polytope
We give a deterministic polynomial-time approximation scheme (FPTAS) for the volume of the truncated fractional matching polytope for graphs of maximum degree $Δ$, where the truncation is by restricting each variable to the interval $[0,\frac{1+δ}Δ]$, and $δ\le \frac{C}Δ$ for some constant $C>0$. We also generalise our result to the fractional matching polytope for hypergraphs of maximum degree $Δ$ and maximum hyperedge size $k$, truncated by $[0,\frac{1+δ}Δ]$ as well, where $δ\le CΔ^{-\frac{2k-3}{k-1}}k^{-1}$ for some constant $C>0$. The latter result generalises both the first result for graphs (when $k=2$), and a result by Bencs and Regts (2024) for the truncated independence polytope (when $Δ=2$). Our approach is based on the cluster expansion technique.
Higher-Categorical Associahedra
The second author introduced 2-associahedra as a tool for investigating functoriality properties of Fukaya categories, and he conjectured that they could be realized as face posets of convex polytopes. We introduce a family of posets called categorical $n$-associahedra, which naturally extend the second author's 2-associahedra and the classical associahedra. Categorical $n$-associahedra give a combinatorial model for the poset of strata of a compactified real moduli space of a tree arrangement of affine coordinate subspaces. We construct a family of complete polyhedral fans, called velocity fans, whose coordinates encode the relative velocities of pairs of colliding coordinate subspaces, and whose face posets are the categorical $n$-associahedra. In particular, this gives the first fan realization of 2-associahedra. In the case of the classical associahedron, the velocity fan specializes to the normal fan of Loday's realization of the associahedron. For proving that the velocity fan is a fan, we first construct a cone complex of metric $n$-bracketings and then exhibit a piecewise-linear isomorphism from this complex to the velocity fan. We demonstrate that the velocity fan, which is not simplicial, admits a canonical smooth flag triangulation on the same set of rays, and we describe a second, finer triangulation which provides a new extension of the braid arrangement. We describe piecewise-unimodular maps on the velocity fan such that the image of each cone is a union of cones in the braid arrangement, and we highlight a connection to the theory of building sets and nestohedra. We explore the local iterated fiber product structure of categorical $n$-associahedra and the extent to which this structure is realized by the velocity fan. For the class of concentrated $n$-associahedra we exhibit generalized permutahedra having velocity fans as their normal fans.
