Symmetric statistics on rational Dyck paths
Rational Dyck paths are the rational generalization of classical Dyck paths. They play an important role in Catalan combinatorics, and have multiple applications in algebra and geometry. Two statistics over rational Dyck paths called run and ratio-run are introduced. They both have symmetric joint distributions with the return statistic. We give combinatorial proofs and algebraic proofs of the symmetries, generalizing a result of Li and Lin.
Rational Dyck paths
Given a positive rational $q$, we consider Dyck paths having height at most two with some constraints on the number of consecutive peaks and consecutive valleys, depending on $q$. We introduce a general class of Dyck paths, called rational Dyck paths, and provide the associated generating function, according to their semilength, as well as the construction of such a class. Moreover, we characterize some subsets of the rational Dyck paths that are enumerated by the $\mathbb Q$-bonacci numbers.
Lattice Points and Rational $q$-Catalan Numbers
For each pair of coprime integers $a$ and $b$ we have a rational $q$-Catalan number $\operatorname{Cat}(a,b)_q=\binom{a+b}{a}_q/[a+b]_q$. It is known that this is a polynomial in $q$ with nonnegative integer coefficients, but the nature of these coefficients is still mysterious. Our current understanding is based on the rational shuffle conjecture that was conjectured by Bergeron, Garsia, Leven and Xin in 2014 and proved by Mellit in 2016, based on earlier work with Carlsson. This theorem realizes $\operatorname{Cat}(a,b)_q$ as the generating function for the statistic "area $-\ \mathrm{dinv}+\frac{(a-1)(b-1)}{2}$" defined on rational Dyck paths. However, this statistic is difficult to work with and leaves some phenomena unexplained. For example, it does not prove the conjecture that the difference $\operatorname{Cat}(a,c)_q-\operatorname{Cat}(a,b)_q$ has nonnegative coefficients whenever $\gcd(a,b)=\gcd(a,c)=1$ and $b<c$. The current paper proposes to look at lattice points instead of Dyck paths. Our idea is to fix $a$ and express everything in terms of the weight lattice $\mathrm{L}$ and root lattice $\mathrm{R}$ of type $A_{a-1}$. Based on ideas of Paul Johnson, we conjecture the existence of certain "Johnson statistics" $J:\mathrm{R}\to\mathbb{Z}$ and we prove this conjecture for $a\le 20$. We show that these statistics satisfy many remarkable properties including a $q$-analogue of Brion's theorem for simplices.
Heaps of pieces for lattice paths
We study heaps of pieces for lattice paths, which give a combinatorial visualization of lattice paths. We introduce two types of heaps: type $I$ and type $II$. A heap of type $I$ is characterized by peaks of a lattice path. We have a duality between a lattice path $μ$ and its dual $\overlineμ$ on heaps of type $I$. A heap of type $II$ for $μ$ is characterized by the skew shape between the lowest path and $μ$. We give a determinant expression for the generating function of heaps for general lattice paths, and an explicit formula for rational $(1,k)$-Dyck paths by using the inversion lemma. We introduce and study heaps in $k+1$-dimensions which are bijective to heaps of type $II$ for $(1,k)$-Dyck paths. Further, we show a bijective correspondence between type $I$ and type $II$ in the case of rational $(1,k)$-Dyck paths. As another application of heaps, we give two explicit formulae for the generating function of heaps for symmetric Dyck paths in terms of statistics on Dyck paths and on symmetric Dyck paths respectively.
Inverting the General Order Sweep Map
Building upon the foundational work of Thomas and Williams on the modular sweep map, Garsia and Xin have developed a straightforward algorithm for the inversion of the sweep map on rational $(m,n)$-Dyck paths, where $(m,n)$ represents coprime pairs of integers. Our research reveals that their innovative approach readily generalizes to encompass a broader spectrum of Dyck paths. To this end, we introduce a family of Order sweep maps applicable to general Dyck paths, which are differentiated by their respective sweep orders at level $0$. We demonstrate that each of these Order sweep maps constitutes a bijective transformation. Our findings encapsulate the sweep maps for both general Dyck paths and their incomplete counterparts as specific instances within this more extensive framework.
Mesas of Stirling permutations
Given a Stirling permutation w, we introduce the mesa set of w as the natural generalization of the pinnacle set of a permutation. Our main results characterize admissible mesa sets and give closed enumerative formulas in terms of rational Catalan numbers by providing an explicit bijection between mesa sets and rational Dyck paths.
Rational Dyck paths and decompositions
We study combinatorial properties of a rational Dyck path by decomposing it into a tuple of Dyck paths. The combinatorial models such as $b$-Stirling permutations, $(b+1)$-ary trees, parenthesis presentations, and binary trees play central roles to establish a correspondence between the rational Dyck path and the tuple of Dyck paths. We reinterpret two orders, the Young and the rotation orders, on rational Dyck paths in terms of the tuple of Dyck paths by use of the decomposition. As an application, we show a duality between $(a,b)$-Dyck paths and $(b,a)$-Dyck paths in terms of binary trees.
Dinv, Area, and Bounce for $\vec{k}$-Dyck paths
The well-known $q,t$-Catalan sequence has two combinatorial interpretations as weighted sums of ordinary Dyck paths: one is Haglund's area-bounce formula, and the other is Haiman's dinv-area formula. The zeta map was constructed to connect these two formulas: it is a bijection from ordinary Dyck paths to themselves, and it takes dinv to area, and area to bounce. Such a result was extended for $k$-Dyck paths by Loehr. The zeta map was extended by Armstrong-Loehr-Warrington for a very general class of paths.
In this paper, We extend the dinv-area-bounce result for $\vec{k}$-Dyck paths by: i) giving a geometric construction for the bounce statistic of a $\vec{k}$-Dyck path, which includes the $k$-Dyck paths and ordinary Dyck paths as special cases; ii) giving a geometric interpretation of the dinv statistic of a $\vec{k}$-Dyck path. Our bounce construction is inspired by Loehr's construction and Xin-Zhang's linear algorithm for inverting the sweep map on $\vec{k}$-Dyck paths. Our dinv interpretation is inspired by Garsia-Xin's visual proof of dinv-to-area result on rational Dyck paths.
Fixed Points of Parking Functions
We define an action of words in $[m]^n$ on $\mathbb{R}^m$ to give a new characterization of rational parking functions -- they are exactly those words whose action has a fixed point. We use this viewpoint to give a simple definition of Gorsky, Mazin, and Vazirani's zeta map on rational parking functions when m and n are coprime, and prove that this zeta map is invertible. A specialization recovers Loehr and Warrington's sweep map on rational Dyck paths.

Garsia and Xin gave a linear algorithm for inverting the sweep map for Fuss rational Dyck paths in $D_{m,n}$ where $m=kn\pm 1$. They introduced an intermediate family $\mathcal{T}_n^k$ of certain standard Young tableau. Then inverting the sweep map is done by a simple walking algorithm on a $T\in \mathcal{T}_n^k$. We find their idea naturally extends for $\mathbf{k}^\pm$-Dyck paths, and also for $\mathbf{k}$-Dyck paths (reducing to $k$-Dyck paths for the equal parameter case). The intermediate object becomes a similar type of tableau in $\mathcal{T}_\mathbf{k}$ of different column lengths. This approach is independent of the Thomas-Williams algorithm for inverting the general modular sweep map.

Our main contribution here is the discovery of a new family of standard Young tableaux $ {\cal T}^k_n$ which are in bijection with the family ${\cal D}_{m,n}$ of Rational Dyck paths for $m=k\times n\pm 1$ (the so called "Fuss" case). Using this family we give a new proof of the invertibility of the sweep map in the Fuss case by means of a very simple explicit algorithm. This new algorithm has running time $O(m+n)$. It is independent of the Thomas-William algorithm.

We study a class of rational Dyck paths with slope (2m+1)/2 corresponding to factor-free Dyck words, as introduced by P. Duchon. We show that, for the slopes considered in this paper, the language of factor-free Dyck words is generated by an auxiliary language that we examine from the algebraic and combinatorial points of view. We provide a lattice path description of this language, and give an explicit enumeration formula in terms of partial Bell polynomials. As a corollary, we obtain new formulas for the number of associated factor-free generalized Dyck words.

We introduce a family of sequence transformations, defined via partial Bell polynomials, that may be used for a systematic study of a wide variety of problems in enumerative combinatorics. This family includes some of the transformations listed in the paper by Bernstein & Sloane, now seen as transformations under the umbrella of partial Bell polynomials. Our goal is to describe these transformations from the algebraic and combinatorial points of view. We provide functional equations satisfied by the generating functions, derive inverse relations, and give a convolution formula. While the full range of applications remains unexplored, in this paper we show a glimpse of the versatility of Bell transformations by discussing the enumeration of several combinatorial configurations, including rational Dyck paths, rooted planar maps, and certain classes of permutations.
Positroids Induced by Rational Dyck Paths
A rational Dyck path of type $(m,d)$ is an increasing unit-step lattice path from $(0,0)$ to $(m,d) \in \mathbb{Z}^2$ that never goes above the diagonal line $y = (d/m)x$. On the other hand, a positroid of rank $d$ on the ground set $[d+m]$ is a special type of matroid coming from the totally nonnegative Grassmannian. In this paper we describe how to naturally assign a rank $d$ positroid on the ground set $[d+m]$, which we name rational Dyck positroid, to each rational Dyck path of type $(m,d)$. We show that such an assignment is one-to-one. There are several families of combinatorial objects in one-to-one correspondence with the set of positroids. Here we characterize some of these families for the positroids we produce, namely Grassmann necklaces, decorated permutations, Le-diagrams, and move-equivalence classes of plabic graphs. Finally, we describe the matroid polytope of a given rational Dyck positroid.

The notion of $(a,b)$-cores is closely related to rational $(a,b)$ Dyck paths due to Anderson's bijection, and thus the number of $(a,a+1)$-cores is given by the Catalan number $C_a$. Recent research shows that $(a,a+1)$ cores with distinct parts are enumerated by another important sequence- Fibonacci numbers $F_a$. In this paper, we consider the abacus description of $(a,b)$-cores to introduce the natural grading and generalize this result to $(a,as+1)$-cores. We also use the bijection with Dyck paths to count the number of $(2k-1,2k+1)$-cores with distinct parts. We give a second grading to Fibonacci numbers, induced by bigraded Catalan sequence $C_{a,b} (q,t)$.

We study the relationship between rational slope Dyck paths and invariant subsets of $\mathbb Z,$ extending the work of the first two authors in the relatively prime case. We also find a bijection between $(dn,dm)$--Dyck paths and $d$-tuples of $(n,m)$-Dyck paths endowed with certain gluing data. These are the first steps towards understanding the relationship between rational slope Catalan combinatorics and the geometry of affine Springer fibers and knot invariants in the non relatively prime case.
Rational Catalan polynomials and rank words
For $m,n$ coprime we introduce a new statistic skip on $(m,n)$-rational Dyck paths and give a fast way to compute dinv and skip statistics. We also introduce $(m,n)$-rank words, which are in one-to-one correspondence with $(m,n)$-Dyck paths. Defining an equivalence relation on pairs of certain ranks in a rank word, we prove that the number of equivalence classes is the skips of the rank word, and the skips of the corresponding Dyck path. We construct a homogeneous generating function $W_{m,n}(q,t,b)$ using statistics area, dinv and skip, where $W_{m,n}(q,t,1)=C_{m,n}(q,t)$, the rational Catalan polynomial. We then give an explicit formula for $(3,n)$-rational Catalan polynomials and prove they are $q,t$-symmetric.

Motivated by independent results of Bizley and Duchon, we study rational Dyck paths and their subset of factor-free elements. On the one hand, we give a bijection between rational Dyck paths and regular Dyck paths with ascents colored by factor-free words. This bijection leads to a new statistic based on the reducibility level of the paths for which we provide a corresponding formula. On the other hand, we prove an inverse relation for certain sequences defined via partial Bell polynomials, and we use it to derive a formula for the enumeration of factor-free words. In addition, we give alternative formulas for various enumerative sequences that appear in the context of rational Dyck paths.

Using techniques introduced by H. Thomas and N. Williams in "Cyclic Symmetry of the Scaled Simplex," we prove that modular sweep maps are bijective. We construct the inverse of the modular sweep map by passing through an intermediary set of equitable partitions; motivated by an analogy to stable marriages, we prove that the set of equitable partitions for a fixed word forms a distributive lattice when ordered componentwise. We conclude that the general sweep maps defined by D. Armstrong, N. Loehr, and G. Warrington in "Sweep Maps: A Continuous Family of Sorting Algorithms" are bijective. As a special case of particular interest, this gives the first proof that the zeta map on rational Dyck paths is a bijection.
