Truncated Plethystic Exponentials Preserve Power Sum Constraints
Given an arbitrary sequence $(α_1, \ldots, α_n) \in \mathbb{C}^n$, we show that the degree-$n$ truncation of the formal exponential $\exp\bigl(-\sum_{k=1}^{\infty} \frac{α_k}{k} x^k\bigr)$ produces a polynomial whose roots $ρ_1, \ldots, ρ_n$ satisfy $\sum_{i=1}^n ρ_i^{-k} = α_k$ exactly for $k = 1, \ldots, n$. This truncation-exactness property is an algebraic identity in the ring of formal power series, proved by coefficient matching. It defines a natural embedding of sequences into multisets of complex numbers and yields an $O(n^2)$ algorithm for computing the polynomial from the prescribed power sums. We apply the result to the polylogarithm family $α_k = k^{1-s}$, where the associated exponential $\exp(-\mathrm{Li}_s(x))$ produces factorial-integer coefficient sequences for $s \leq 0$ and encodes values of the Riemann zeta function through $\lim_{n\to\infty} P_n^{(s)}(1) = \exp(-ζ(s))$ for $\mathrm{Re}(s) > 1$.
Analysis of moments and cumulants in alternating sign matrices
In this work, we study the discrete observables $$E_k = \sum_{i,j=1}^n (i-j)^k A_{i,j}$$ associated with $n\times n$ alternating sign matrices $A = (A_{i,j})$. This work develops exact formulas for expectations using Bernoulli polynomials, exponential generating functions, expansions in $1/n$ linked to Riemann zeta functions, and cumulants up to fourth order via integrable kernel methods. All intermediate calculations, expansions, and pedagogical details are provided to illustrate the interplay between combinatorial sums, analytic expansions, and integrable structures in alternating sign matrices.
Uniform treatments of Bernoulli numbers, Stirling numbers, and their generating functions
In this paper, by virtue of a determinantal formula for derivatives of the ratio between two differentiable functions, in view of the Faà di Bruno formula, and with the help of several identities and closed-form formulas for the partial Bell polynomials $\operatorname{B}_{n,k}$, the author establishes thirteen Maclaurin series expansions of the functions \begin{align*} &\ln\frac{\operatorname{e}^x+1}{2}, && \ln\frac{\operatorname{e}^x-1}{x}, && \ln\cosh x, \\ &\ln\frac{\sinh x}{x}, && \biggl[\frac{\ln(1+x)}{x}\biggr]^r, && \biggl(\frac{\operatorname{e}^x-1}{x}\biggr)^r \end{align*} for $r=\pm\frac{1}{2}$ and $r\in\mathbb{R}$ in terms of the Dirichlet eta function $η(1-2k)$, the Riemann zeta function $ζ(1-2k)$, and the Stirling numbers of the first and second kinds $s(n,k)$ and $S(n,k)$. presents four determinantal expressions and three recursive relations for the Bernoulli numbers $B_{2n}$. finds out three closed-form formulas for the Bernoulli numbers $B_{2n}$ and the generalized Bernoulli numbers $B_n^{(r)}$ in terms of the Stirling numbers of the second kind $S(n,k)$, and deduce two combinatorial identities for the Stirling numbers of the second kind $S(n,k)$. acquires two combinatorial identities, which can be regarded as diagonal recursive relations, involving the Stirling numbers of the first and second kinds $s(n,k)$ and $S(n,k)$. recovers an integral representation and a closed-form formula, and establish an alternative explicit and closed-form formula, for the Bernoulli numbers of the second kind $b_n$ in terms of the Stirling numbers of the first kind $s(n,k)$. obtains three identities connecting the Stirling numbers of the first and second kinds $s(n,k)$ and $S(n,k)$.
Schur-hooks and Bernoulli number recurrences
Given an identity relating families of Schur and power sum symmetric functions, this may be thought of as encoding representation-theoretic properties according to how the $p$-to-$s$ transition matrices provide the irreducible character tables for symmetric groups. The case of the Murnaghan-Nakayama rule for cycles provides that $p_{n} = \sum_{i = 0}^{n-1} (-1)^i s_{(n-i, 1^{i})}$, and, since the power sum generator $p_{n}$ reduces to $ζ(2n)$ for the Riemann zeta function $ζ$ and for specialized values of the indeterminates involved in the inverse limit construction of the algebra of symmetric functions, this motivates both combinatorial and number-theoretic applications related to the given case of the Murnaghan-Nakayama rule. In this direction, since every Schur-hook admits an expansion in terms of twofold products of elementary and complete homogeneous generators, we exploit this property for the same specialization that allows us to express $p_{n}$ with the Bernoulli number $B_{2n}$, using remarkable results due to Hoffman on multiple harmonic series. This motivates our bijective approach, through the use of sign-reversing involutions, toward the determination of identities that relate Schur-hooks and power sum symmetric functions and that we apply to obtain a new recurrence for Bernoulli numbers.
On two conjectural series involving Riemann zeta function
Riemann zeta function is important in a lot of branches of number theory. With the help of the operator method and several transformation formulas for hypergeometric series, we prove four series involving Riemann zeta function. Two of them are series expansions for $ζ(7)$ and $ζ(3)^2$ recently conjectured by Z.-W. Sun.

This short note for non-experts means to demystify the tasks of evaluating the Riemann Zeta Function at non-positive integers and at even natural numbers, both initially performed by Leonhard Euler. Treading in the footsteps of G. H. Hardy and others, I re-examine Euler's work on the functional equation for the Zeta function, and explain how both the functional equation and all `classical' integer values can be obtained in one sweep using only Euler's favorite method of generating functions. As a counter-point, I also present an even simpler argument essentially due to Bernhard Riemann, which however requires Cauchy's residue theorem, a result not yet available to Euler. As a final point, I endeavor to clarify how these two methods are organically linked and can be taught as an intuitive gateway into the world of Zeta functionology.
A Generalisation of Ramanujan's (back of the envelope) Method for Divergent Series
Ramanujan derived the well known divergent-sum of integers in more than one way. We generalise the informal method to higher powers of the Riemann zeta function through a study of the Eulerian numbers in particular. Within the context of additive combinatorics a heuristic approach that unifies generating series and difference matrices is presented.
Eulerian series, zeta functions and the arithmetic of partitions
In this Ph.D. dissertation (2018, Emory University) we prove theorems at the intersection of the additive and multiplicative branches of number theory, bringing together ideas from partition theory, $q$-series, algebra, modular forms and analytic number theory. We present a natural multiplicative theory of integer partitions (which are usually considered in terms of addition), and explore new classes of partition-theoretic zeta functions and Dirichlet series -- as well as "Eulerian" $q$-hypergeometric series -- enjoying many interesting relations. We find a number of theorems of classical number theory and analysis arise as particular cases of extremely general combinatorial structure laws. Among our applications, we prove explicit formulas for the coefficients of the $q$-bracket of Bloch-Okounkov, a partition-theoretic operator from statistical physics related to quasi-modular forms; we prove partition formulas for arithmetic densities of certain subsets of the integers, giving $q$-series formulas to evaluate the Riemann zeta function; we study $q$-hypergeometric series related to quantum modular forms and the "strange" function of Kontsevich; and we show how Ramanujan's odd-order mock theta functions (and, more generally, the universal mock theta function $g_3$ of Gordon-McIntosh) arise from the reciprocal of the Jacobi triple product via the $q$-bracket operator, connecting also to unimodal sequences in combinatorics and quantum modular-like phenomena.

This paper presents a combinatorial study of sums of integer powers of the cotangent which is a popular theme in classical calculus. Our main tool the realization of cotangent values as eigenvalues of a simple self-adjoint matrix with integer matrix. We use the trace method to draw conclusions about integer values of the sums and expand generating functions to obtain explicit evaluations. It is remarkable that throughout the calculations the combinatorics are governed by the higher tangent and arctangent numbers exclusively. Finally we indicate a new approximation of the values of the Riemann zeta function at even integer arguments.

We examine "partition zeta functions" analogous to the Riemann zeta function but summed over subsets of integer partitions. We prove an explicit formula for a family of partition zeta functions already shown to have nice properties -- those summed over partitions of fixed length -- which yields complete information about analytic continuation, poles and trivial roots of the zeta functions in the family. Then we present a combinatorial proof of the explicit formula, which shows it to be a zeta function analog of MacMahon's partial fraction decomposition of the generating function for partitions of fixed length.
An Asymptotic Form of the Generating Function $\prod_{k=1}^\infty (1+x^k/k)$
It is shown that the sequence of rational numbers $r(k)$ generated by the ordinary generating function $\prod_{k=1}^\infty (1+x^k/k)$ converges to a limit $C > 0$. $C$ can be expressed as $C = \exp\Bigl(-\sum_{k = 2}^\infty \frac{(-1)^k}{k}\ ζ(k) \Bigr)$ where $ζ()$ denotes the Riemann zeta function.

Building upon ideas of the second and third authors, we prove that at least $2^{(1-\varepsilon)\frac{\log s}{\log\log s}}$ values of the Riemann zeta function at odd integers between 3 and $s$ are irrational, where $\varepsilon$ is any positive real number and $s$ is large enough in terms of $\varepsilon$. This lower bound is asymptotically larger than any power of $\log s$; it improves on the bound $\frac{1-\varepsilon}{1+\log2}\log s$ that follows from the Ball--Rivoal theorem.
The proof is based on construction of several linear forms in odd zeta values with related coefficients.

For a fixed $b\in\mathbb{N}=\{1,2,3,\ldots\}$ we say that a point $(r,s)$ in the integer lattice $\mathbb{Z} \times \mathbb{Z}$ is $b$-visible from the origin if it lies on the graph of a power function $f(x)=ax^b$ with $a\in\mathbb{Q}$ and no other integer lattice point lies on this curve (i.e., line of sight) between $(0,0)$ and $(r,s)$. We prove that the proportion of $b$-visible integer lattice points is given by $1/ζ(b+1)$, where $ζ(s)$ denotes the Riemann zeta function. We also show that even though the proportion of $b$-visible lattice points approaches $1$ as $b$ approaches infinity, there exist arbitrarily large rectangular arrays of $b$-invisible lattice points for any fixed $b$. This work specialized to $b=1$ recovers original results from the classical lattice point visibility setting where the lines of sight are given by linear functions with rational slope through the origin.
On Louchard's Asymptotic Series
Recently G. Louchard obtained an asymptotic series $\sum_{j=0}^\infty\frac{I_j}{n^j}$ for the integral $\int_0^1[x^n+(1-x)^n]^{\frac1n}dx$ as $n\to\infty$, and computed $I_j$ for $j\le 5$ in terms of values of the Riemann zeta function. An interesting feature of the computation is that the $I_j$ are first obtained in terms of alternating multiple zeta values, but then everything except products of ordinary zeta values cancels out. We obtain similar formulas for $I_n$, $6\le n\le 9$, and conjecture a general formula for $I_n$ in terms of alternating multiple zeta values. We also conjecture that $I_n$ is a rational polynomial in the ordinary zeta values.

For the random interval partition of $[0,1]$ generated by the uniform stick-breaking scheme known as GEM$(1)$, let $u_k$ be the probability that the first $k$ intervals created by the stick-breaking scheme are also the first $k$ intervals to be discovered in a process of uniform random sampling of points from $[0,1]$. Then $u_k$ is a renewal sequence. We prove that $u_k$ is a rational linear combination of the real numbers $1, ζ(2), \ldots, ζ(k)$ where $ζ$ is the Riemann zeta function, and show that $u_k$ has limit $1/3$ as $k \to \infty$. Related results provide probabilistic interpretations of some multiple zeta values in terms of a Markov chain derived from the interval partition. This Markov chain has the structure of a weak record chain. Similar results are given for the GEM$(θ)$ model, with beta$(1,θ)$ instead of uniform stick-breaking factors, and for another more algebraic derivation of renewal sequences from the Riemann zeta function.

We define a generalized class of modified zeta series transformations generating the partial sums of the Hurwitz zeta function and series expansions of the Lerch transcendent function. The new transformation coefficients we define within the article satisfy expansions by generalized harmonic number sequences, or the partial sums of the Hurwitz zeta function, which are analogous to known properties for the Stirling numbers of the first kind and for the known transformation coefficients employed to enumerate variants of the polylogarithm function series. Applications of the new results we prove in the article include new series expansions of the Dirichlet beta function, the Legendre chi function, BBP-type series identities for special constants, alternating and exotic Euler sum variants, alternating zeta functions with powers of quadratic denominators, and particular series defining special cases of the Riemann zeta function constants at the positive integers $s \geq 3$.

We introduce and survey results on two families of zeta functions connected to the multiplicative and additive theories of integer partitions. In the case of the multiplicative theory, we provide specialization formulas and results on the analytic continuations of these "partition zeta functions", find unusual formulas for the Riemann zeta function, prove identities for multiple zeta values, and see that some of the formulas allow for $p$-adic interpolation. The second family we study was anticipated by Manin and makes use of modular forms, functions which are intimately related to integer partitions by universal polynomial recurrence relations. We survey recent work on these zeta polynomials, including the proof of their Riemann Hypothesis.

We exploit transformations relating generalized $q$-series, infinite products, sums over integer partitions, and continued fractions, to find partition-theoretic formulas to compute the values of constants such as $π$, and to connect sums over partitions to the Riemann zeta function, multiple zeta values, and other number-theoretic objects.
On a conjecture of Chen-Guo-Wang
Towards confirming Sun's conjecture on the strict log-concavity of combinatorial sequence involving the n$th$ Bernoulli number, Chen, Guo and Wang proposed a conjecture about the log-concavity of the function $θ(x)=\sqrt[x]{2ζ(x)Γ(x+1)}$ for $x\in (6,\infty)$, where $ζ(x)$ is the Riemann zeta function and $Γ(x)$ is the Gamma function. In this paper, we first prove this conjecture along the spirit of Zhu's previous work. Second, we extend Chen et al.'s conjecture in the sense of almost infinite log-monotonicity of combinatorial sequences, which was also introduced by Chen et al. Furthermore, by using an analogue criterion to the one of Chen, Guo and Wang, we deduce the almost infinite log-monotonicity of the sequences $\frac{1}{\sqrt[n]{|B_{2n}|}}$, $T_n$ and $\frac{1}{\sqrt[n]{T_n}}$, where $B_{2n}$ and $T_{n}$ are the $2n$th Bernoulli number and the $n$th tangent number, respectively. These results can be seen as extensions of some solved conjectures of Sun.
