Fixed-point-free involutions and Schur P-positivity
Published in J. Combin. 11 (2020), no. 1, 65-110 • View PublicationBIB
The orbits of the symplectic group acting on the type A flag variety are indexed by the fixed-point-free involutions in a finite symmetric group. The cohomology classes of the closures of these orbits have polynomial representatives $\hat{\mathfrak{S}}^{\tt{FPF}}_z$ akin to Schubert polynomials. We show that the fixed-point-free involution Stanley symmetric functions $\hat{F}^{\tt{FPF}}_z$, which are stable limits of the polynomials $\hat{\mathfrak{S}}^{\tt{FPF}}_z$, are Schur $P$-positive. To do so, we construct an analogue of the Lascoux-Schützenberger tree, an algebraic recurrence that computes Schubert polynomials. As a byproduct of our proof, we obtain a Pfaffian formula of geometric interest for $\hat{\mathfrak{S}}^{\tt{FPF}}_z$ when $z$ is a fixed-point-free version of a Grassmannian permutation. We also classify the fixed-point-free involution Stanley symmetric functions that are single Schur $P$-functions, and show that the decomposition of $\hat{F}^{\tt{FPF}}_z$ into Schur $P$-functions is unitriangular with respect to dominance order on strict partitions. These results and proofs mirror previous work by the authors related to the orthogonal group action on the type A flag variety.

Schur partition theorems via perfect crystal
Motivated by spin modular representations of the symmetric groups, we propose two generalizations of the Schur regular partitions for an odd integer $p\geq 3$. One forms a subset of the set of $p$-strict partitions, and the other forms that of strict partitions. We prove that each set has a basic $A^{(2)}_{p-1}$-crystal structure. For $p=3$, it reproves Schur's 1926 partition theorem, a mod 6 analog of Rogers-Ramanujan partition theorem (RRPT). For $p=5$, it gives a computer-free proof of a conjecture by Andrews during his 3-parameter generalization of RRPT, which was first proved by Andrews-Bessenrodt-Olsson.

A unifying combinatorial approach to refined little Göllnitz and Capparelli's companion identities
Published in Adv. Appl. Math. 98 (2018): 127-154 • View PublicationBIB
Berkovich-Uncu have recently proved a companion of the well-known Capparelli's identities as well as refinements of Savage-Sills' new little Göllnitz identities. Noticing the connection between their results and Boulet's earlier four-parameter partition generating functions, we discover a new class of partitions, called $k$-strict partitions, to generalize their results. By applying both horizontal and vertical dissections of Ferrers' diagrams with appropriate labellings, we provide a unified combinatorial treatment of their results and shed more lights on the intriguing conditions of their companion to Capparelli's identities.

Polynomiality of shifted Plancherel averages and content evaluations
Published in Annales Mathématiques Blaise Pascal 24, no. 1 (2017), 55-82 • View PublicationBIB
The shifted Plancherel measure is a natural probability measure on strict partitions. We prove a polynomiality property for the averages of the shifted Plancherel measure. As an application, we give alternative proofs of some content evaluation formulas, obtained by Han and Xiong very recently. Our main tool is factorial Schur $Q$-functions.

New hook-content formulas for strict partitions

We introduce the difference operator for functions defined on strict partitions and prove a polynomiality property for a summation involving the hook length and content statistics. As an application, several new hook-content formulas for strict partitions are derived.

We extend the polynomial approach to hook length formula proposed in a recent joint paper with Károlyi, Nagy and Volkov to several other problems of the same type, including number of paths formula in the Young graph of strict partitions.

Young walls and graded dimension formulas for finite quiver Hecke algebras of type $A^{(2)}_{2\ell}$ and $D^{(2)}_{\ell+1}$
Published • View PublicationBIB
We study graded dimension formulas for finite quiver Hecke algebras $R^{Λ_0}(β)$ of type $A^{(2)}_{2\ell}$ and $D^{(2)}_{\ell+1}$ using combinatorics of Young walls. We introduce the notion of standard tableaux for proper Young walls and show that the standard tableaux form a graded poset with lattice structure. We next investigate Laurent polynomials associated with proper Young walls and their standard tableaux arising from the Fock space representations consisting of proper Young walls. Then we prove the graded dimension formulas described in terms of the Laurent polynomials. When evaluating at $q=1$, the graded dimension formulas recover the dimension formulas for $R^{Λ_0}(β)$ described in terms of standard tableaux of strict partitions.

The Andrews-Olsson identity and Bessenrodt insertion algorithm on Young walls
Published • View PublicationBIB
We extend the Andrews-Olsson identity to two-colored partitions. Regarding the sets of proper Young walls of quantum affine algebras $\g_n=A^{(2)}_{2n}$, $A^{(2)}_{2n-1}$, $B^{(1)}_{n}$, $D^{(1)}_{n}$ and $D^{(2)}_{n+1}$ as the sets of two-colored partitions, the extended Andrews-Olsson identity implies that the generating functions of the sets of reduced Young walls have very simple formulae: \begin{center} $\prod^{\infty}_{i=1}(1+t^i)^{κ_i}$ where $κ_i=0$, $1$ or $2$, and $κ_i$ varies periodically. \end{center} Moreover, we generalize the Bessenrodt's algorithms to prove the extended Andrews-Olsson identity in an alternative way. From these algorithms, we can give crystal structures on certain subsets of pair of strict partitions which are isomorphic to the crystal bases $B(Λ)$ of the level $1$ highest weight modules $V(Λ)$ over $U_q(\g_n)$.

On Measures on Partitions Arising in Harmonic Analysis for Linear and Projective Characters of the Infinite Symmetric Group
The z-measures on partitions originated from the problem of harmonic analysis of linear representations of the infinite symmetric group in the works of Kerov, Olshanski and Vershik (1993, 2004). A similar family corresponding to projective representations was introduced by Borodin (1997). The latter measures live on strict partitions (i.e., partitions with distinct parts), and the z-measures are supported by all partitions. In this note we describe some combinatorial relations between these two families of measures using the well-known doubling of shifted Young diagrams.

Pfaffian Stochastic Dynamics of Strict Partitions
Published • View PublicationBIB
We study a family of continuous time Markov jump processes on strict partitions (partitions with distinct parts) preserving the distributions introduced by Borodin (1997) in connection with projective representations of the infinite symmetric group. The one-dimensional distributions of the processes (i.e., the Borodin's measures) have determinantal structure. We express the dynamical correlation functions of the processes in terms of certain Pfaffians and give explicit formulas for both the static and dynamical correlation kernels using the Gauss hypergeometric function. Moreover, we are able to express our correlation kernels (both static and dynamical) through those of the z-measures on partitions obtained previously by Borodin and Olshanski in a series of papers. The results about the fixed time case were announced in the author's note arXiv:1002.2714. A part of the present paper contains proofs of those results.

Random Walks on Strict Partitions
Published in Journal of Mathematical Sciences, vol. 168, no. 3, pp. 437-463, 2010 • View PublicationBIB
We consider a certain sequence of random walks. The state space of the n-th random walk is the set of all strict partitions of n (that is, partitions without equal parts). We prove that, as n goes to infinity, these random walks converge to a continuous-time Markov process. The state space of this process is the infinite-dimensional simplex consisting of all nonincreasing infinite sequences of nonnegative numbers with sum less than or equal to one. The main result about the limit process is the expression of its the pre-generator as a formal second order differential operator in a polynomial algebra. Of separate interest is the generalization of Kerov interlacing coordinates to the case of shifted Young diagrams.

Strict Partitions of Maximal Projective Degree
The projective degrees of strict partitions of n were computed for all n < 101 and the partitions with maximal projective degree were found for each n. It was observed that maximizing partitions for successive values of n "lie close to each other" in a certain sense. Conjecturing that this holds for larger values of n, the partitions of maximal degree were computed for all n < 221. The results are consistent with a recent conjecture on the limiting shape of the strict partition of maximal projective degree.

Shifted Schur process and asymptotics of large random strict plane partitions
Published in Int. Math. Res. Notices (2007), Vol 2007, article ID rnm043, 53 pages • View PublicationBIB
In this paper we define the shifted Schur process as a measure on sequences of strict partitions. This process is a generalization of the shifted Schur measure introduced in [TW] and [Mat] and is a shifted version of the Schur process introduced in [OR]. We prove that the shifted Schur process defines a Pfaffian point process. We further apply this fact to compute the bulk scaling limit of the correlation functions for a measure on strict plane partitions which is an analog of the uniform measure on ordinary plane partitions. As a byproduct, we obtain a shifted analog of the famous MacMahon's formula.

Mullineux involution and twisted affine Lie algebras
Published • View PublicationBIB
We use Naito-Sagaki's work [S. Naito & D. Sagaki, J. Algebra 245 (2001) 395--412, J. Algebra 251 (2002) 461--474] on Lakshmibai-Seshadri paths fixed by diagram automorphisms to study the partitions fixed by Mullineux involution. We characterize the set of Mullineux-fixed partitions in terms of crystal graphs of basic representations of twisted affine Lie algebras of type $A_{2\ell}^{(2)}$ and of type $D_{\ell+1}^{(2)}$. We set up bijections between the set of symmetric partitions and the set of partitions into distinct parts. We propose a notion of double restricted strict partitions. Bijections between the set of restricted strict partitions (resp., the set of double restricted strict partitions) and the set of Mullineux-fixed partitions in the odd case (resp., in the even case) are obtained.

Schubert classes in the equivariant cohomology of the Lagrangian Grassmannian
Published • View PublicationBIB
Let $LG_n$ denote the Lagrangian Grassmannian parametrizing maximal isotropic (Lagrangian) subspaces of a fixed symplectic vector space of dimension $2n.$ For each strict partition $λ=(λ_1,...,λ_k)$ with $λ_1\leq n$ there is a Schubert variety $X(λ).$ Let $T$ denote a maximal torus of the symplectic group acting on $LG_n.$ Consider the $T$-equivariant cohomology of $LG_n$ and the $T$-equivariant fundamental class $σ(λ)$ of $X(λ).$ The main result of the present paper is an explicit formula for the restriction of the class $σ(λ)$ to any torus fixed point. The formula is written in terms of factorial analogue of the Schur $Q$-function, introduced by Ivanov. As a corollary to the restriction formula, we obtain an equivariant version of the Giambelli-type formula for $LG_n.$ As another consequence of the main result, we obtained a presentation of the ring $H_T^*(LG_n).$

The Andrews-Stanley partition function and Al-Salam-Chihara polynomials
Published • View PublicationBIB
We show that the sum of the four parameter weights over all ordinary or strict partitions with parts each less than or equal to a given integer $N$ is expressed by the Al-Salam Chihara polynomials. This weight is a generalization of the Andrews-Stanley partition function. As a corollary we prove C. Boulet's results when the sum runs over all ordinary or strict partitions. In the last section we study the weighted sum of Schur's $P$-functions and $Q$-functions, where the sum runs over all strict partitions.

Correlation functions of the shifted Schur measure
Published in J. Math. Soc. Japan, vol.57, no. 3 (2005), 619--637 • View PublicationBIB
The shifted Schur measure introduced by Tracy and Widom is a measure on the set of all strict partitions, which is defined by Schur $Q$-functions. The main aim of this paper is to calculate the correlation function of this measure, which is given by a pfaffian. As an application, we prove that a limit distribution of $λ_j$'s with respect to a shifted version of the Plancherel measure for symmetric groups is identical with the corresponding distribution of the original Plancherel measure. Further we give expressions of the mean value and the variance of the size of a partition with respect to the measure defined by Hall-Littlewood functions.

Correlation functions of strict partitions and twisted Fock spaces
Published in Transformation Groups, vol 9 (2004), 89--101. • View PublicationBIB
Using twisted Fock spaces, we formulate and study two twisted versions of the n-point correlation functions of Bloch-Okounkov, and then identify them with q-expectation values of certain functions on the set of (odd) strict partitions. We find closed formulas for the 1-point functions in both cases in terms of Jacobi theta functions. These correlation functions afford several distinct interpretations.
