Coin Turning Games on Partially Ordered Sets
A finite impartial game is a two-player game in which the players take turns making moves and the game ends after finitely many moves. In this paper, we study a class of finite impartial games introduced by H.~Lenstra, which we call coin turning games. We focus on two typical classes of coin turning games, namely the order ideal games and the rulers, distinguished by their choices of turning sets. For several posets arising from enumerative combinatorics, we determine the Sprague-Grundy functions. In particular, we determine the Sprague-Grundy function of the order ideal game on the ASM poset, introduced by J.~Striker in connection with the alternating sign matrices.
Non-isomorphic Cayley Graphs with Same Random Walk Distributions
We construct an infinite family of triples (G,S1, S2) each consisting of a group G and a pair (S1, S2) of distinct subsets of G with the following properties. i The two Cayley graphs Cay(G, S1) and Cay(G,S2) are non-isomorphic. ii The distributions of the simple random walks on Cay(G,S1) and Cay(G,S2) are the same if one takes an appropriate correspondence between the two vertex sets at each step. iii The spectral set of Cay(G, Si) is decomposed into a disjoint union of two subsets A and B_i of the equal size which satisfies B1 = -B2.
Minor summation formula of hyperpfaffians and Selberg integrals
In the previous paper (J. Combin. Theory Ser. A, 120, 2013, 1263--1284) H. Tagawa and the two authors proposed an algebraic method to compute certain Pfaffians whose form resemble to Hankel determinants associated with moment sequences of the classical orthogonal polynomials. At the end of the paper they offered several conjectures. In this work we employ a completely different method to evaluate this type of Pfaffians. The idea is to apply certain de Bruijn type formula and convert the evaluation of the Pfaffians to the certain Selberg type integrals. This approach works not only for Pfaffians but also for hyperpfaffians. Hence it enables us to establish much more generalized identities than those conjectured in the previous paper. We also investigate some Pfaffians related to classical $q$-orthogonal polynomials.
A one-parameter generalization of Pfaffians
In analogy to the definition of the lambda-determinant, we define a one-parameter deformation of the Dodgson condensation formula for Pfaffians. We prove that the resulting rational function is a polynomial with weights given by the crossings and nestings of perfect matchings and prove several identities and closed-form evaluations.
(q,t)-hook formula for Birds and Banners
We study Okada's conjecture on $(q,t)$-hook formula of general $d$-complete posets. Proctor classified $d$-complete posets into 15 irreducible ones. We try to give a case-by-case proof of Okada's $(q,t)$-hook formula conjecture using the symmetric functions. Here we give a proof of the conjecture for birds and banners, in which we use Gasper's identity for VWP-series ${}_{12}W_{11}$.

We prove a general quadratic formula for basic hypergeometric series, from which simple proofs of several recent determinant and Pfaffian formulas are obtained. A special case of the quadratic formula is actually related to a Gram determinant formula for Askey-Wilson polynomials. We also show how to derive a recent double-sum formula for the moments of Askey-Wilson polynomials from Newton's interpolation formula.

Motivated by the Gaussian symplectic ensemble, Mehta and Wang evaluated the $n$ by $n$ determinant $\det((a+j-i)Γ(b+j+i))$ in 2000. When $a=0$, Ciucu and Krattenthaler computed the associated Pfaffian $\Pf((j-i)Γ(b+j+i))$ with an application to the two dimensional dimer system in 2011. Recently we have generalized the latter Pfaffian formula with a $q$-analogue by replacing the Gamma function by the moment sequence of the little $q$-Jacobi polynomials. On the other hand, Nishizawa has found a $q$-analogue of the Mehta--Wang formula. Our purpose is to generalize both the Mehta-Wang and Nishizawa formulae by using the moment sequence of the little $q$-Jacobi polynomials. It turns out that the corresponding determinant can be evaluated explicitly in terms of the Askey-Wilson polynomials.
Zeilberger's Holonomic Ansatz for Pfaffians

A variation of Zeilberger's holonomic ansatz for symbolic determinant evaluations is proposed which is tailored to deal with Pfaffians. The method is also applicable to determinants of skew-symmetric matrices, for which the original approach does not work. As Zeilberger's approach is based on the Laplace expansion (cofactor expansion) of the determinant, we derive our approach from the cofactor expansion of the Pfaffian. To demonstrate the power of our method, we prove, using computer algebra algorithms, some conjectures proposed in the paper "Pfaffian decomposition and a Pfaffian analogue of q-Catalan Hankel determinants" by Ishikawa, Tagawa, and Zeng. A minor summation formula related to partitions and Motzkin paths follows as a corollary.

Motivated by the Hankel determinant evaluation of moment sequences, we study a kind of Pfaffian analogue evaluation. We prove an LU-decomposition analogue for skew-symmetric matrices, called Pfaffian decomposition. We then apply this formula to evaluate Pfaffians related to some moment sequences of classical orthogonal polynomials. In particular we obtain a product formula for a kind of q-Catalan Pfaffians. We also establish a connection between our Pfaffian formulas and certain weighted enumeration of shifted reverse plane partitions.

In this paper we shall survey the various methods of evaluating Hankel determinants and as an illustration we evaluate some Hankel determinants of a q-analogue of Catalan numbers. Here we consider $\frac{(aq;q)_{n}}{(abq^{2};q)_{n}}$ as a q-analogue of Catalan numbers $C_{n}=\frac1{n+1}\binom{2n}{n}$, which is known as the moments of the little q-Jacobi polynomials. We also give several proofs of this q-analogue, in which we use lattice paths, the orthogonal polynomials, or the basic hypergeometric series. We also consider a q-analogue of Schröder Hankel determinants, and give a new proof of Moztkin Hankel determinants using an addition formula for ${}_2F_{1}$.
A binomial-coefficient identity arising from the middle discrete series of SU(2,2)
The aim of this paper is to give an elementary proof of certain identities on binomials and state an answer to Remark 8.2 in Takahiro Hayata, Harutaka Koseki, and Takayuki Oda, Matrix coefficients of the middle discrete series of SU(2,2), J. Funct. Anal. 185 (2001), 297-341.
On refined enumerations of totally symmetric self-complementary plane partitions II
In this paper we settle a weak version of a conjecture (i.e. Conjecture 6) by Mills, Robbins and Rumsey in the paper "Self-complementary totally symmetric plane partitions" (J. Combin. Theory Ser. A 42, 277-292). In other words we show that the number of shifted plane partitions invariant under an involution is equal to the number of alternating sign matrices invariant under the vertical flip. We also give a determinantal formula for the general conjecture (Conjecture 6), but this determinant is still hard to evaluate. In this paper we introduce two new classes of domino plane partitions, one has the same cardinality as the set of half-turn symmetric alternating sign matrices and the other has the same cardinality as the set of vertically symmetric alternating sign matrices.
Statistics on Ordered Partitions of Sets and q-Stirling Numbers
An ordered partition of [n]:={1,2,..., n} is a sequence of its disjoint subsets whose union is [n]. The number of ordered partitions of [n] with k blocks is k!S(n,k), where S(n,k) is the Stirling number of second kind. In this paper we prove some refinements of this formula by showing that the generating function of some statistics on the set of ordered partitions of [n] with k blocks is a natural $q$-analogue of k!S(n,k). In particular, we prove several conjectures of Steingrímsson. To this end, we construct a mapping from ordered partitions to walks in some digraphs and then, thanks to transfer-matrix method, we determine the corresponding generating functions by determinantal computations.
On refined enumerations of totally symmetric self-complementary plane partitions I
In this paper we give Pfaffian expressions and constant term identities for the enumeration problems presented by Mills, Robbins and Rumsey (``Self-complementary totally symmetric plane partitions'' J. Combin. Theory Ser. A, 42, 277--292), concerning the totally symmetric self-complementary plane partitions (TSSCPPs). We also present some new conjectures and give Pfaffian expressions for them.

We show that the sum of the four parameter weights over all ordinary or strict partitions with parts each less than or equal to a given integer $N$ is expressed by the Al-Salam Chihara polynomials. This weight is a generalization of the Andrews-Stanley partition function. As a corollary we prove C. Boulet's results when the sum runs over all ordinary or strict partitions. In the last section we study the weighted sum of Schur's $P$-functions and $Q$-functions, where the sum runs over all strict partitions.

We present several generalizations of Cauchy's determinant and Schur's Pfaffian by considering matrices whose entries involve some generalized Vandermonde determinants. Special cases of our formulae include previuos formulae due to S.Okada and T. Sundquist. As an application, we give a relation for the Littlewood--Richardson coefficients involving a rectangular partition.

In the open problem session of the FPSAC'03, R.P.Stanley gave an open problem. The purpose of this paper is to give a proof of this open problem. At the end of this paper we present certain corollaries involving the Big Schur functions and some polynomials arising from the Macdonald polynomials, which generalize Stanley's open problem.

The initial purpose of this paper is to provide a combinatorial proof of the minor summation formula of Pfaffians based on the lattice path method. There we related Plücker relations with the minor summation formula of Pfaffians to simplify its proof by lattice paths. The second aim is to find a various applications of the minor summation formula. First we studied a variant of the Sundquist formula established in J. Alg. Combin. {\bf 5} (1996). Next we gave a simple proof of Kawanaka's formula concerning a $q$-series identity involving Schur functions in Osaka J. Math. {\bf 36} (1999). We also establish a certain identity similar to the Kawanaka formula, and give a combinatorial proof of the determinant version of his formula in Osaka J. Math. {\bf 38} (2001).
