Prefix palindromic length of the Thue-Morse word

The prefix palindromic length $PPL_u(n)$ of an infinite word $u$ is the minimal number of concatenated palindromes needed to express the prefix of length $n$ of $u$. In a 2013 paper with Puzynina and Zamboni we stated the conjecture that $PPL_u(n)$ is unbounded for every infinite word $u$ which is not ultimately periodic. Up to now, the conjecture has been proven for almost all words, including all words avoiding some power $p$. However, even in that simple case the existing upper bound for the minimal number $n$ such that $PPL_u(n)>K$ is greater than any constant to the power $K$. Precise values of $PPL_u(n)$ are not known even for simplest examples like the Fibonacci word.
In this paper, we give the first example of such a precise computation and compute the function of the prefix palindromic length of the Thue-Morse word, a famous test object for all functions on infinite words. It happens that this sequence is $2$-regular, which raises the question if this fact can be generalized to all automatic sequences.

The study of temporal networks in discrete time has yielded numerous insights into time-dependent networked systems in a wide variety of applications. For many complex systems, however, it is useful to develop continuous-time models of networks and to compare them to associated discrete models. In this paper, we study several continuous-time network models and examine discrete approximations of them both numerically and analytically. To consider continuous-time networks, we associate each edge in a graph with a time-dependent tie strength that can take continuous non-negative values and decays in time after the most recent interaction. We investigate how the mean tie strength evolves with time in several models, and we explore -- both numerically and analytically -- criteria for the emergence of a giant connected component in some of these models. We also briefly examine the effects of interaction patterns of our continuous-time networks on contagion dynamics in a susceptible-infected-recovered model of an infectious disease.
On PM-monoids and braid PM-monoids
In this paper, we shall introduce two monoids. One is called a PM-monoid which contains the symmetric group, the other is called a braid PM-monoid which contains the braid group. We shall develop the theory of PM-monoids and that of braid PM-monoids. The PM-monoids is obtained in the context of the compactification of projective linear group defined by Mutsumi Saito. The structure of PM-monoids is described in terms of matched pairs. We can define braid PM-monoid using a presentation for the PM-monoid. As main results, we show that braid PM-monoids are described by geometric braids and we find a solution to the word problem for the braid PM-monoids.

A graph is edge-primitive if its automorphism group acts primitively on the edge set, and 2-arc-transitive if its automorphism group acts transitively on the set of 2-arcs. In this paper, we present a classification for those edge-primitive graphs which are 2-arc-transitive and have soluble edge-stabilizers.

On a convex polygonal chessboard, the number of combinatorial types of nonattacking configuration of three identical chess riders with $r$ moves, such as queens, bishops, or nightriders, equals $r(r^2+3r-1)/3$, as conjectured by Chaiken, Hanusa, and Zaslavsky (2019). Similarly, for any number of identical 3-move riders the number of combinatorial types is independent of the actual moves.
A note on the distribution of major index for Schröder paths
Bonin, Shapiro and Simion (1993) gave two formulas on the distribution of major index for Schröder paths, and proved their result for the case $E<D<N$. In this short note, we correct an error in their proof, and give a complete proof for all cases.

Measuring robustness is a fundamental task for analyzing the structure of complex networks. Indeed, several approaches to capture the robustness properties of a network have been proposed. In this paper we focus on spectral graph theory where robustness is measured by means of a graph invariant called Kirchhoff index, expressed in terms of eigenvalues of the Laplacian matrix associated to a graph. This graph metric is highly informative as a robustness indicator for several realworld networks that can be modeled as graphs. We discuss a methodology aimed at obtaining some new and tighter bounds of this graph invariant when links are added or removed. We take advantage of real analysis techniques, based on majorization theory and optimization of functions which preserve the majorization order (Schurconvex functions). Applications to simulated graphs show the effectiveness of our bounds, also in providing meaningful insights with respect to the results obtained in the literature.
Finite-dimensional modules of the universal Racah algebra and the universal additive DAHA of type $(C_1^\vee,C_1)$
Assume that $\mathbb F$ is an algebraically closed field with characteristic zero. The universal Racah algebra $\Re$ is a unital associative $\mathbb F$-algebra defined by generators and relations. The generators are $A,B, C, D$ and the relations state that $$ [A,B]=[B,C]=[C,A]=2D $$ and each of \begin{gather*} [A,D]+AC-BA, \qquad [B,D]+BA-CB, \qquad [C,D]+CB-AC \end{gather*} is central in $\Re$. The universal additive DAHA (double affine Hecke algebra) $\mathfrak H$ of type $(C_1^\vee,C_1)$ is a unital associative $\mathbb F$-algebra generated by $t_0,t_1,t_0^\vee,t_1^\vee$ and the relations state that $$ t_0+t_1+t_0^\vee+t_1^\vee=-1 $$ and each of $t_0^2, t_1^2, t_0^{\vee 2}, t_1^{\vee 2}$ is central in $\mathfrak H$. Each $\mathfrak H$-module is an $\Re$-module by pulling back via the algebra homomorphism $\Re\to \mathfrak H$ given by \begin{eqnarray*} A &\mapsto & \frac{(t_1^\vee+t_0^\vee)(t_1^\vee+t_0^\vee+2)}{4}, \\ B &\mapsto & \frac{(t_1+t_1^\vee)(t_1+t_1^\vee+2)}{4}, \\ C &\mapsto & \frac{(t_0^\vee+t_1)(t_0^\vee+t_1+2)}{4}. \end{eqnarray*} Let $V$ denote any finite-dimensional irreducible $\mathfrak H$-module. The set of $\Re$-submodules of $V$ forms a lattice under the inclusion partial order. We classify the lattices that arise by this construction. As a consequence, the $\Re$-module $V$ is completely reducible if and only if $t_0$ is diagonalizable on $V$.
The Size of the Giant Joint Component in a Binomial Random Double Graph

We study the joint components in a random `double graph' that is obtained by superposing red and blue binomial random graphs on $n$~vertices. A joint component is a maximal set of vertices, which contains both a red and a blue spanning tree. We show that there are critical pairs of red and blue edge densities at which a joint-giant component appears. In contrast to the standard binomial graph model, the phase transition is first order: the size of the largest joint component jumps from $O(1)$ vertices to $Θ(n)$ at the critical point. We connect this phenomenon to the properties of a certain bicoloured branching process.
The size Ramsey number of graphs with bounded treewidth

A graph $G$ is Ramsey for a graph $H$ if every 2-colouring of the edges of $G$ contains a monochromatic copy of $H$. We consider the following question: if $H$ has bounded treewidth, is there a `sparse' graph $G$ that is Ramsey for $H$? Two notions of sparsity are considered. Firstly, we show that if the maximum degree and treewidth of $H$ are bounded, then there is a graph $G$ with $O(|V(H)|)$ edges that is Ramsey for $H$. This was previously only known for the smaller class of graphs $H$ with bounded bandwidth. On the other hand, we prove that the treewidth of a graph $G$ that is Ramsey for $H$ cannot be bounded in terms of the treewidth of $H$ alone. In fact, the latter statement is true even if the treewidth is replaced by the degeneracy and $H$ is a tree.
Fat-triangle linkage and kite-linked graphs
For a multigraph $H$, a graph $G$ is $H$-linked if every injective mapping $φ: V(H)\to V(G)$ can be extended to an $H$-subdivision in $G$. We study the minimum connectivity required for a graph to be $H$-linked. A $k$-fat-triangle $F_k$ is a multigraph with three vertices and a total of $k$ edges. We determine a sharp connectivity requirement for a graph to be $F_k$-linked. In particular, any $k$-connected graph is $F_k$-linked when $F_k$ is connected. A kite is the graph obtained from $K_4$ by removing two edges at a vertex. As a nontrivial application of $F_k$-linkage, we then prove that every $8$-connected graph is kite-linked, which shows that the required connectivity for a graph to be kite-linked is $7$ or $8$.
A sheaf-theoretic approach to tropical homology

We introduce a sheaf-theoretic approach to tropical homology, especially for tropical homology with potentially non-compact supports. Our setup is suited to study the functorial properties of tropical homology, and we show that it behaves analogously to classical Borel-Moore homology in the sense that there are proper push-forwards, cross products, and cup products with tropical cohomology classes, and that it satisfies identities like the projection formula and the Künneth theorem. Our framework allows for a natural definition of the tropical cycle class map, which we show to be a natural transformation. Finally, we prove Poincaré-Verdier duality over the integers on tropical manifolds.
A note on two orthogonal totally $C_4$-free one-factorizations of complete graphs
A pair of orthogonal one-factorizations $\mathcal{F}$ and $\mathcal{G}$ of the complete graph $K_n$ is totally $C_4$-free, if the union $F\cup G$, for any $F,G\in\mathcal{F}\cup\mathcal{G}$, does not include a cycle of length four.
In this note, we prove if $q\equiv3$ (mod 4) is a prime power with $q\geq11$, then there is a pair of orthogonal totally $C_4$-free one-factorizations of $K_{q+1}$.

Let $\overline{\mathtt{X}}_λ$ be the closure of the $\mathtt{I}$-orbit $\mathtt{X}_λ$ in the affine Grassmanian $\mathtt{Gr}$ of a simple algebraic group $G$ of adjoint type, where $\mathtt{I}$ is the Iwahori group and $λ$ is a coweight of $G$. We find a simple algorithm which describes the set $Ψ(λ)$ of all $\mathtt{I}$-orbits in $\overline{\mathtt{X}}_λ$ in terms of coweights. We introduce $R$-operators (associated to positive roots) on the coweight lattice of $G$, which exactly describe the closure relation of $\mathtt{I}$-orbits. These operators satisfy Braid relations generically on the coweight lattice. We also establish a duality between the set $Ψ(λ)$ and the weight system of the level one affine Demazure module $\hat{\mathscr{D}}_λ$ of $^L\tilde{\mathfrak{g}}$ indexed by $λ$, where $^L\tilde{\mathfrak{g}}$ is the affine Kac-Moody algebra dual to the affine Kac-Moody Lie algebra $\tilde{\mathfrak{g}}$ associated to the Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$ of $G$.
Polyiamonds Attaining Extremal Topological Properties, Part II
In Part II of this work, we construct crystallized polyiamonds with $h$ holes for every $h\ge1$, that is polyiamonds which use the fewest possible tiles necessary to enclose $h$ holes. Furthermore, we prove that crystallized polyiamonds satisfy a set of structural conditions, and for every $h\ge 3$ there are multiple distinct crystallized polyiamonds with $h$ holes.
An overview on the bipartite divisor graph for the set of irreducible character degrees

Let $G$ be a finite group. The bipartite divisor graph for the set of irreducible complex character degrees is the undirected graph with vertex set consisting of the prime numbers dividing some character degree and of the non-identity character degrees, where a prime number $p$ is declared to be adjacent to a character degree $m$ if and only if $p$ divides $m$. This graph is bipartite and it encodes two of the most widely studied graphs associated to the character degrees of a finite group: the prime graph and the divisor graph on the set of irreducible character degrees.
The scope of this paper is two-fold. We draw some attention to the bipartite divisor graph for the set of irreducible complex character degrees by outlining the main results that have been proved so far. In this process we improve some of these results and we leave some open problems.
Polynomial-size vectors are enough for the unimodular triangulation of simplicial cones

In a recent paper, Bruns and von Thaden established a bound for the length of vectors involved in a unimodular triangulation of simplicial cones. The bound is exponential in the square of the logarithm of the multiplicity, and improves previous bounds significantly. The authors mentioned that the next goal would be a bound that is polynomial in the multiplicity but not knowing if such a bound exists. In this paper we will prove that such a bound, which is polynomial in the multiplicity $μ$, indeed exists. In detail, the bound is of the type $μ^{f(d)}$ with $f(d) \in \mathcal{O}(d)$.

We introduce the set $\mathcal{G}^{\rm SSP}$ of all simple graphs $G$ with the property that each symmetric matrix corresponding to a graph $G \in \mathcal{G}^{\rm SSP}$ has the strong spectral property. We find several families of graphs in $\mathcal{G}^{\rm SSP}$ and, in particular, characterise the trees in $\mathcal{G}^{\rm SSP}$.

We introduce and study a variant of Ramsey numbers for edge-ordered graphs, that is, graphs with linearly ordered sets of edges. The edge-ordered Ramsey number $\overline{R}_e(\mathfrak{G})$ of an edge-ordered graph $\mathfrak{G}$ is the minimum positive integer $N$ such that there exists an edge-ordered complete graph $\mathfrak{K}_N$ on $N$ vertices such that every 2-coloring of the edges of $\mathfrak{K}_N$ contains a monochromatic copy of $\mathfrak{G}$ as an edge-ordered subgraph of $\mathfrak{K}_N$.
We prove that the edge-ordered Ramsey number $\overline{R}_e(\mathfrak{G})$ is finite for every edge-ordered graph $\mathfrak{G}$ and we obtain better estimates for special classes of edge-ordered graphs. In particular, we prove $\overline{R}_e(\mathfrak{G}) \leq 2^{O(n^3\log{n})}$ for every bipartite edge-ordered graph $\mathfrak{G}$ on $n$ vertices. We also introduce a natural class of edge-orderings, called lexicographic edge-orderings, for which we can prove much better upper bounds on the corresponding edge-ordered Ramsey numbers.
