We show that for any $n$ and $q$, the number of real conjugacy classes in $\mathrm{PGL}(n, \mathbb{F}_q)$ is equal to the number of real conjugacy classes of $\mathrm{GL}(n, \mathbb{F}_q)$ which are contained in $\mathrm{SL}(n, \mathbb{F}_q)$, refining a result of Lehrer, and extending the result of Gill and Singh that this holds when $n$ is odd or $q$ is even. Further, we show that this quantity is equal to the number of real conjugacy classes in $\mathrm{PGU}(n, \mathbb{F}_q)$, and equal to the number of real conjugacy classes of $\mathrm{U}(n, \mathbb{F}_q)$ which are contained in $\mathrm{SU}(n, \mathbb{F}_q)$, refining results of Gow and Macdonald. We also give a generating function for this common quantity.
A Simple Algorithm for a Computationally Hard Problem
Graph isomorphism problem is a known hard problem. In this paper, a novel randomized algorithm is proposed for this problem which is very simple and fast. It solves the graph isomorphism problem with running time O(n^2.373) for any pair of n-vertex graphs whose adjacency matrices are not strongly co-det. Strongly co-det pair of matrices have very special symmetric structure which can be disarranged to be not strongly co-det by manipulating one element of the matrices.
Approval Gap of Weighted k-Majority Tournaments

A $k$-majority tournament $T$ on a finite set of vertices $V$ is defined by a set of $2k-1$ linear orders on $V$, with an edge $u \to v$ in $T$ if $u>v$ in a majority of the linear orders. We think of the linear orders as voter preferences and the vertices of $T$ as candidates, with an edge $u \to v$ in $T$ if a majority of voters prefer candidate $u$ to candidate $v$. In this paper we introduce weighted $k$-majority tournaments, with each edge $u \to v$ weighted by the number of voters preferring $u$.
We define the maximum approval gap $γ_w(T)$, a measure by which any dominating set of $T$ beats the next most popular candidate. This parameter is analogous to previous work on the size of minimum dominating sets of (unweighted) $k$-majority tournaments. We prove that $k/2 \leq γ_w(T) \leq 2k-1$ for any weighted $k$-majority tournament $T$, and construct tournaments with $γ_w(T)=q$ for any rational number $k/2 \leq q \leq 2k-1$. We also consider the minimum number of vertices $m(q,k)$ in a $k$-majority tournament with $γ_w(T)=q$.
The bipartite $K_{2,2}$-free process and bipartite Ramsey number $b(2, t)$

The bipartite Ramsey number $b(s,t)$ is the smallest integer $n$ such that every blue-red edge coloring of $K_{n,n}$ contains either a blue $K_{s,s}$ or a red $K_{t,t}$. In the bipartite $K_{2,2}$-free process, we begin with an empty graph on vertex set $X\cup Y$, $|X|=|Y|=n$. At each step, a random edge from $X\times Y$ is added under the restriction that no $K_{2,2}$ is formed. This step is repeated until no more edges can be added. In this note, we analyze this process and show that the resulting graph witnesses that $b(2,t) =Ω\left(t^{3/2}/\log t \right)$, thereby improving the best known lower bound.

Given a tropical linear space $L \subseteq \mathbb{T}^n$ and a matrix $A \in \mathbb{T}^{m \times n}$, the image $AL$ of $L$ under $A$ is typically not a tropical linear space. We introduce a tropical linear space $\mathrm{tropim}_A(L)$, the tropical image, containing $AL$. We show under mild hypotheses that $\mathrm{tropim}_A(L)$ is realizable if $L$ is and apply the tropical image to construct the stable sum of two tropical linear spaces without a disjoint pair of bases.

We study the duality between the mutations and the initial-seed mutations in cluster algebras, where the initial-seed mutations are the transformations of rational expressions of cluster variables in terms of the initial cluster under the change of the initial cluster. In particular, we define the maximal degree matrices of the $F$-polynomials called the $F$-matrices and show that the $F$-matrices have the self-duality which is analogous to the duality between the $C$- and $G$-matrices.

In 1975, P. Erdős proposed the problem of determining the maximum number $f(n)$ of edges in a graph with $n$ vertices in which any two cycles are of different lengths. The sequence $(c_1,c_2,\cdots,c_n)$ is the cycle length distribution of a graph $G$ of order $n$ where $c_i$ is the number of cycles of length $i$ in $G$. Let $f(a_1,a_2,\cdots, a_n)$ denote the maximum possible number of edges in a graph which satisfies $c_i\leq a_i$ where $a_i$ is a nonnegative integer. In 1991, Shi posed the problem of determining $f(a_1,a_2,\cdots,a_n)$ which extended the problem due to Erdős, it is clear that $f(n)=f(1,1,\cdots,1)$. Let $g(n,m)=f(a_1,a_2,\cdots,a_n),$ $a_i=1$ for all $i/m$ be integer, $a_i=0$ for all $i/m$ be not integer. It is clear that $f(n)=g(n,1)$. We prove that $\liminf_{n \to \infty} {f(n)-n \over \sqrt n} \geq \sqrt {2 + \frac{40}{99}},$ which is better than the previous bounds $\sqrt 2$ (Shi, 1988), $\sqrt {2 + \frac{7654}{19071}}$ (Lai, 2017). We show that $\liminf_{n \rightarrow \infty} {g(n,m)-n\over \sqrt \frac{n}{m}} > \sqrt {2.444},$ for all even integers $m$. We make the following conjecture: $\liminf_{n \to \infty} {f(n)-n \over \sqrt n} > \sqrt {2.444}.$

We give a cluster expansion formula for cluster algebras with principal coefficients defined from triangulated surfaces in terms of perfect matchings of angles. Our formula simplifies the cluster expansion formula given by Musiker-Schiffler-Williams in terms of perfect matchings of snake graphs. A key point of our proof is to give a bijection between perfect matchings of angles in some triangulated polygon and perfect matchings of the corresponding snake graph. Moreover, they also correspond bijectively with perfect matchings of the corresponding bipartite graph and minimal cuts of the corresponding quiver with potential.

The KP equation is a nonlinear dispersive wave equation which provides an excellent model for resonant interactions of shallow-water waves. It is well known that regular soliton solutions of the KP equation may be constructed from points in the totally nonnegative Grassmannian Gr$(N,M)_{\geq 0}$. Kodama and Williams studied the asymptotic patterns (tropical limit) of KP solitons, called soliton graphs, and showed that they correspond to Postnikov's Le-diagrams. In this paper, we consider soliton graphs for the KP hierarchy, a family of commuting flows which are compatible with the KP equation. For the positive Grassmannian Gr$(2,M)_{>0}$, Kodama and Williams showed that soliton graphs are in bijection with triangulations of the $M$-gon. We extend this result to Gr$(N,M)_{>0}$ when $N=3$ and $M=6,7$ and $8$. In each case, we show that soliton graphs are in bijection with Postnikov's plabic graphs, which generalize Le-diagrams.
Degenerate Schubert Varieties in Type A
We introduce rectangular elements in the symmetric group. In the framework of PBW degenerations, we show that in type A the degenerate Schubert variety associated to a rectangular element is indeed a Schubert variety in a partial flag variety of the same type with larger rank. Moreover, the degenerate Demazure module associated to a rectangular element is isomorphic to the Demazure module for this particular Schubert variety of larger rank. This generalizes previous results by Cerulli Irelli, Lanini and Littelmann for the PBW degenerate flag variety.

We study the enumeration of bargraphs with respect to some corner statistics. We find generating functions for the number of bargraphs that tracks the corner statistics of interest, the number of cells, and the number of columns. The bargraph representation of set partitions is also considered and some explicit formulas are obtained for the number of some specific types of corners in such representations.

It is well known that for any integers $k$ and $g$, there is a graph with chromatic number at least $k$ and girth at least $g$. In 1960's, Erdős and Hajnal conjectured that for any $k$ and $g$, there exists a number $h(k,g)$, such that every graph with chromatic number at least $h(k,g)$ contains a subgraph with chromatic number at least $k$ and girth at least $g$. In 1977, Rödl proved the case for $g=4$ and arbitrary $k$. We prove the fractional chromatic number version of Rödl's result.

In this paper, we provide few results on the group distance magic labeling of lexicographic product and direct product of two graphs. We also prove some necessary conditions for a graph to be group distance magic and provide a characterization for a tree to be group distance magic.

We study the graph on reduced words with edges given by the Coxeter relations for the symmetric group. We define a metric on reduced words for a given permutation, analogous to Coxeter length for permutations, for which the graph becomes ranked with unique maximal element. We show this metric extends naturally to balanced tableaux, and use it to recover enumerative results of Edelman and Greene and of Reiner and Roichman.
Projectively unique polytopes and toric slack ideals

The slack ideal of a polytope is a saturated determinantal ideal that gives rise to a new model for the realization space of the polytope. The simplest slack ideals are toric and have connections to projectively unique polytopes. We prove that if a projectively unique polytope has a toric slack ideal, then it is the toric ideal of the bipartite graph of vertex-facet non-incidences of the polytope. The slack ideal of a polytope is contained in this toric ideal if and only if the polytope is morally 2-level, a generalization of the 2-level property in polytopes. We show that polytopes that do not admit rational realizations cannot have toric slack ideals. A classical example of a projectively unique polytope with no rational realizations is due to Perles. We prove that the slack ideal of the Perles polytope is reducible, providing the first example of a slack ideal that is not prime.

In previous work of this author it was conjectured that the sum of power sums $p_λ,$ for partitions $λ$ ranging over an interval $[(1^n), μ]$ in reverse lexicographic order, is Schur-positive. Here we investigate this conjecture and establish its truth in the following special cases: for $μ\in [(n-4,1^4), (n)]$ or $μ\in [(1^n), (3,1^{n-3})], $ or $μ=(3, 2^k, 1^r)$ when $k\geq 1$ and $0\leq r\leq 2.$ Many new Schur positivity questions are presented.

We consider the problem of which distance-regular graphs with small valency are Cayley graphs. We determine the distance-regular Cayley graphs with valency at most $4$, the Cayley graphs among the distance-regular graphs with known putative intersection arrays for valency $5$, and the Cayley graphs among all distance-regular graphs with girth $3$ and valency $6$ or $7$. We obtain that the incidence graphs of Desarguesian affine planes minus a parallel class of lines are Cayley graphs. We show that the incidence graphs of the known generalized hexagons are not Cayley graphs, and neither are some other distance-regular graphs that come from small generalized quadrangles or hexagons. Among some ``exceptional'' distance-regular graphs with small valency, we find that the Armanios-Wells graph and the Klein graph are Cayley graphs.
Andrews-Gordon Type Series for Kanade-Russell Conjectures
We construct Andrews-Gordon type evidently positive series as generating functions of partitions satisfying certain difference conditions in six conjectures by Kanade and Russell. We construct generating functions for missing partition enumerants, naturally without claiming new partition identities. Thus, we obtain $q$-series conjectures as companions to Kanade and Russell's combinatorial conjectures.

Let $m(n,r)$ denote the minimal number of edges in an $n$-uniform hypergraph which is not $r$-colorable. It is known that for a fixed $n$ one has \[ c_n r^n < m(n,r) < C_n r^n. \] We prove that for any fixed $n$ the sequence $a_r := m(n,r)/r^n$ has a limit, which was conjectured by Alon. We also prove the list colorings analogue of this statement.
Extremal $H$-free planar graphs

Given a graph $H$, a graph is $H$-free if it does not contain $H$ as a subgraph. We continue to study the topic of "extremal" planar graphs, that is, how many edges can an $H$-free planar graph on $n$ vertices have? We define $ex_{_\mathcal{P}}(n,H)$ to be the maximum number of edges in an $H$-free planar graph on $n $ vertices. We first obtain several sufficient conditions on $H$ which yield $ex_{_\mathcal{P}}(n,H)=3n-6$ for all $n\ge |V(H)|$. We discover that the chromatic number of $H$ does not play a role, as in the celebrated Erdős-Stone Theorem. We then completely determine $ex_{_\mathcal{P}}(n,H)$ when $H$ is a wheel or a star. Finally, we examine the case when $H$ is a $(t, r)$-fan, that is, $H$ is isomorphic to $K_1+tK_{r-1}$, where $t\ge2$ and $r\ge 3$ are integers. However, determining $ex_{_\mathcal{P}}(n,H)$, when $H$ is a planar subcubic graph, remains wide open.
