Motivated by a partition inequality of Bessenrodt and Ono, we obtain analogous inequalities for $k$-colored partition functions $p_{-k}(n)$ for all $k\geq2$. This enables us to extend the $k$-colored partition function multiplicatively to a function on $k$-colored partitions, and characterize when it has a unique maximum. We conclude with one conjectural inequality that strengthens our results.

We define a subclass of Hessenberg varieties called abelian Hessenberg varieties, inspired by the theory of abelian ideals in a Lie algebra developed by Kostant and Peterson. We give an inductive formula for the $S_n$-representation on the cohomology of an abelian regular semisimple Hessenberg variety with respect to the action defined by Tymoczko. Our result implies that a graded version of the Stanley-Stembridge conjecture holds in the abelian case, and generalizes results obtained by Shareshian-Wachs and Teff. Our proof uses previous work of Stanley, Gasharov, Shareshian-Wachs, and Brosnan-Chow, as well as results of the second author on the geometry and combinatorics of Hessenberg varieties. As part of our arguments, we obtain inductive formulas for the Poincaré polynomials of regular abelian Hessenberg varieties.

We prove that if the Hausdorff dimension of $E\subset\mathbb{R}^d$, $d\geq 2$ is greater than $\frac{d}{2}+\frac{1}{3}$, the set of gaps of $2$-chains inside $E$, $$Δ_2(E)=\{(|x-y|, |y-z|): x, y, z\in E \}\subset\mathbb{R}^2$$ has positive Lebesgue measure. It generalizes Wolff-Erdogan's result on distances and improves a result of Bennett, Iosevich and Taylor on finite chains.
We also consider the similarity class of $2$-chains, $$S_2(E)=\left\{\frac{t_1}{t_2}:(t_1,t_2)\inΔ_2(E)\right\}=\left\{\frac{|x-y|}{|y-z|}: x, y, z\in E \right\}\subset\mathbb{R},$$ and show that $|S_2(E)|>0$ whenever $\dim_{\mathcal{H}}(E)>\frac{d}{2}+\frac{1}{7}$.

We consider weighted small step walks in the positive quadrant, and provide algebraicity and differential transcendence results for the underlying generating functions: we prove that depending on the probabilities of allowed steps, certain of the generating functions are algebraic over the field of rational functions, while some others do not satisfy any algebraic differential equation with rational function coefficients. Our techniques involve differential Galois theory for difference equations as well as complex analysis (Weierstrass parameterization of elliptic curves). We also extend to the weighted case many key intermediate results, as a theorem of analytic continuation of the generating functions.
Matroids over partial hyperstructures

We present an algebraic framework which simultaneously generalizes the notion of linear subspaces, matroids, valuated matroids, oriented matroids, and regular matroids. To do this, we first introduce algebraic objects called tracts which generalize both hyperfields in the sense of Krasner and partial fields in the sense of Semple and Whittle. We then define matroids over tracts; in fact, there are (at least) two natural notions of matroid in this general context, which we call weak and strong matroids. We give "cryptomorphic" axiom systems for such matroids in terms of circuits, Grassmann-Plücker functions, and dual pairs, and establish some basic duality results. We then explore sufficient criteria for the notions of weak and strong matroids to coincide. For example, if $F$ is a particularly nice kind of tract called a doubly distributive partial hyperfield, we show that the notions of weak and strong $F$-matroids coincide. We also give examples of tracts $F$ and weak $F$-matroids which are not strong. Our theory of matroids over tracts is closely related to, but more general than, "matroids over fuzzy rings" in the sense of Dress and Dress-Wenzel.

The $4$-girth-thickness $θ(4,G)$ of a graph $G$ is the minimum number of planar subgraphs of girth at least four whose union is $G$. In this paper, we obtain that the 4-girth-thickness of complete tripartite graph $K_{n,n,n}$ is $\big\lceil\frac{n+1}{2}\big\rceil$ except for $θ(4,K_{1,1,1})=2$. And we also show that the $4$-girth-thickness of the complete graph $K_{10}$ is three which disprove the conjecture $θ(4,K_{10})=4$ posed by Rubio-Montiel (Ars Math Contemp 14(2) (2018) 319).

We call a graph $G$ pancyclic if it contains at least one cycle of every possible length $m$, for $3\le m\le |V(G)|$. In this paper, we define a new property called chorded pancyclicity. We explore forbidden subgraphs in claw-free graphs sufficient to imply that the graph contains at least one chorded cycle of every possible length $4, 5, \ldots, |V(G)|$. In particular, certain paths and triangles with pendant paths are forbidden.

We say that a category $\mathscr{D}$ is dimension zero over a field $F$ provided that every finitely generated representation of $\mathscr{D}$ over $F$ is finite length. We show that $\textrm{Rel}(R)$, a category that arises naturally from a finite idempotent semiring $R$, is dimension zero over any infinite field. One special case of this result is that $\textrm{Rel}$, the category of finite sets with relations, is dimension zero over any infinite field.

A permutation graph is a graph that can be derived from a permutation, where the vertices correspond to letters of the permutation, and the edges represent inversions. We provide a construction to show that there are infinitely many connected $r$-regular permutation graphs for $r \geq 3$. We prove that all $3$-regular permutation graphs arise from a similar construction. Finally, we enumerate all $3$-regular permutation graphs on $n$ vertices.

The symmetric group $\mathsf{S}_n$ and the partition algebra $\mathsf{P}_k(n)$ centralize one another in their actions on the $k$-fold tensor power $\mathsf{M}_n^{\otimes k}$ of the $n$-dimensional permutation module $\mathsf{M}_n$ of $\mathsf{S}_n$. The duality afforded by the commuting actions determines an algebra homomorphism $Φ_{k,n}: \mathsf{P}_k(n) \to \mathsf{End}_{\mathsf{S}_n}(\mathsf{M}_n^{\otimes k})$ from the partition algebra to the centralizer algebra $\mathsf{End}_{\mathsf{S}_n}(\mathsf{M}_n^{\otimes k})$, which is a surjection for all $k, n \in \mathbb{Z}_{\ge 1}$, and an isomorphism when $n \ge 2k$. We present results that can be derived from the duality between $\mathsf{S}_n$ and $\mathsf{P}_k(n)$; for example, (i) expressions for the multiplicities of the irreducible $\mathsf{S}_n$-summands of $\mathsf{M}_n^{\otimes k}$, (ii) formulas for the dimensions of the irreducible modules for the centralizer algebra $\mathsf{End}_{\mathsf{S}_n}(\mathsf{M}_n^{\otimes k})$, (iii) a bijection between vacillating tableaux and set-partition tableaux, (iv) identities relating Stirling numbers of the second kind and the number of fixed points of permutations, and (v) character values for the partition algebra $\mathsf{P}_k(n)$. When $2k >n$, the map $Φ_{k,n}$ has a nontrivial kernel which is generated as a two-sided ideal by a single idempotent. We describe the kernel and image of $Φ_{k,n}$ in terms of the orbit basis of $\mathsf{P}_k(n)$ and explain how the surjection $Φ_{k,n}$ can also be used to obtain the fundamental theorems of invariant theory for the symmetric group.

Chromatic polynomials and related graph invariants are central objects in both graph theory and statistical physics. Computational difficulties, however, have so far restricted studies of such polynomials to graphs that were either very small, very sparse or highly structured. Recent algorithmic advances (Timme et al 2009 New J. Phys. 11 023001) now make it possible to compute chromatic polynomials for moderately sized graphs of arbitrary structure and number of edges. Here we present chromatic polynomials of ensembles of random graphs with up to 30 vertices, over the entire range of edge density. We specifically focus on the locations of the zeros of the polynomial in the complex plane. The results indicate that the chromatic zeros of random graphs have a very consistent layout. In particular, the crossing point, the point at which the chromatic zeros with non-zero imaginary part approach the real axis, scales linearly with the average degree over most of the density range. While the scaling laws obtained are purely empirical, if they continue to hold in general there are significant implications: the crossing points of chromatic zeros in the thermodynamic limit separate systems with zero ground state entropy from systems with positive ground state entropy, the latter an exception to the third law of thermodynamics.
A Novel Quasigroup Substitution Scheme for Chaos Based Image Encryption

A During last two decades, there has been a prolific growth in the chaos based image encryption algorithms. Up to an extent these algorithms have been able to provide an alternative to exchange large media files (images and videos) over the networks in a secure way. However, there have been some issues with the implementation of chaos based image ciphers in practice. One of them is reduced/small key space due to the fact that chaotic behavior is only observed for certain range of system parameters/initial conditions of the chaotic system used in such algorithms. To overcome this difficulty, we propose a simple, efficient and robust image encryption algorithm based on combined applications of quasigroups and chaotic standard map. The proposed image cipher is based on the popular substitution-diffusion architecture (Shanon) where a quasigroup of order 256 and chaotic standard map have been used for the substitution and permutation of image pixels respectively. Due to the introduction of quasigroup as part of the secret key along with the parameter and initial conditions of the chaotic standard map, the key space has been increased significantly. The proposed image cipher is very fast due to the fact that the substitution based on the quasigroup operations is very simple and can be executed easily through the lookup table operations on Latin squares (which are Cayley operation tables of quasigroups) and the permutation is performed row-by-row as well as column-by-column using the pseudo random number sequences gener-ated through the chaotic standard map. The security and performance have been analyzed through the histograms, correlation coefficients, information entropy, key sensitivity analysis, differential analysis, key space analysis etc. and the results prove the efficiency and robustness of the proposed image cipher against the possible security threats.
A Proof Technique for Skewness of Graphs
The skewness of a graph G is the minimum number of edges in G whose removal results in a planar graph. By appropriately introducing a weight to each edge of a graph, we determine, among other thing, the skewness of the generalized Petersen graph P(4k, k) for odd k at least 9. This provides an answer to the conjecture raised in [3].

The forgotten topological index or F-index of a graph is defined as the sum of degree cube of all the vertices of the graph. This index was introduced by Gutman and Trinajestić more than 40 years ago. In this paper, we derive F-index of new operations of subdivision graphs related to the graphs join.

In this paper, we introduce an algebra $\mathcal{H}$ from a subspace lattice with respect to a fixed flag which contains its incidence algebra as a proper subalgebra. We then establish a relation between the algebra $\mathcal{H}$ and the quantum affine algebra $U_{q^{1/2}}(\widehat{\mathfrak{sl}}_2)$, where $q$ denotes the cardinality of the base field. It is an extension of the well-known relation between the incidence algebra of a subspace lattice and the quantum algebra $U_{q^{1/2}}(\mathfrak{sl}_2)$. We show that there exists an algebra homomorphism from $U_{q^{1/2}}(\widehat{\mathfrak{sl}}_2)$ to $\mathcal{H}$ and that any irreducible module for $\mathcal{H}$ is irreducible as an $U_{q^{1/2}}(\widehat{\mathfrak{sl}}_2)$-module.

A rigidity theory is developed for frameworks in a metric space with two types of distance constraints. Mixed sparsity graph characterisations are obtained for the infinitesimal and continuous rigidity of completely regular bar-joint frameworks in a variety of such contexts. The main results are combinatorial characterisations for (i) frameworks restricted to surfaces with both Euclidean and geodesic distance constraints, (ii) frameworks in the plane with Euclidean and non-Euclidean distance constraints, and (iii) direction-length frameworks in the non-Euclidean plane.
A propos de l'algèbre de Hopf des mots tassés WMat

In this article we study the packed words Hopf algebra WMat introduced by Duchamp, Hoang-Nghia et Tanasa. We start by explaining that WMat is not cofree, giving its antipode and describing its graded dual. We consider then a Hopf sub-algebra of permutations called $\mathfrak{S}\mathcal{H}$. Its graded dual $\mathfrak{S}\mathcal{H}^\circledast$ has a quadri-algebra structure, so it has a double dendriform algebra structure too. Thereafter, we introduce ISPW, a Hopf algebra of increasing strict packed words. It is graded, connected and cocommutative so is isomorphic to the enveloping algebra of its primitive elements. We describe some families of primitive elements. We prove that ISPW and non commutative symmetric functions are isomorphic. We define then an extended compositions Hopf algebra $\mathcal{C}_e$. It is not cocommutative but its primitive elements and those from ISPW are linked. We give an interpretation of $\mathcal{C}_e$ in terms of a semi-direct coproduct Hopf algebra. By using this, we can define two actions groups. We finish by giving an explicit isomorphism between ISPW$^\circledast$ and QSym and another one between ISPW and NSym.
On Björner and Lovász's conjecture
In the way of proving Kneser's conjecture, László Lovász settled out a new lower bound for the chromatic number of graphs. He showed that if the hom complex $||Hom(\mathcal{K}_2, H)||$ of a graph $H$ is topologically $k$-connected, then its chromatic number, $χ(H)$, is at least $k+3$. After that, he made the following conjecture, to provide a better lower bound on the chromatic number of graphs. If $||Hom(C_{2r+1}, H)||$ is $k$-connected, then $χ(H)\geq k+4$, where $C_{2r+1}$ is an odd cycle of length $2r+1$. Finally, Björner and Lovász proposed a generalization of the Lovász conjecture as follows. If $||Hom(T, H)||$ is $k$-connected, then $χ(H)\geq k+χ(T) +1$. The first conjecture was originally confirmed by Babson and Kozlov, by complicated computations with spectral sequences. But the second one was disproved by Hoory and Linial. So, after that, a graph $T$ is called a test graph if for every graph $H$, the $k$-connectedness of $||Hom(T, H)||$ implies $χ(H)\geq k + 1 + χ(H)$.
In this paper, we prove that if a graph $F$ possess an involutive automorphism that flips some edge; then it is a test graph. As a corollary, we give a purely combinatorial proof of the Lovász conjecture; odd cycles are test graphs. Indeed, although the Björner and Lovász conjecture is not true in general, we show that a slight modification of the conjecture is always true. More precisely, we show that for any graph $T$, there is a supergraph $T\subseteq\hat{T}$ with $χ(\hat{T})\leqχ(T)+1$, such that $\hat{T}$ is a test graph.

Let $Γ$ be a multigraph with for each vertex a cyclic order of the edges incident with it. For $n \geq 3$, let $D_{2n}$ be the dihedral group of order $2n$. Define $\mathbb{D} := \{(\begin{smallmatrix} 1 & a \\ 0 & 1 \end{smallmatrix}) \mid a \in \mathbb{Z}\}$. In [5] it was asked whether $Γ$ admits a nowhere-identity $D_{2n}$-flow if and only if it admits a nowhere-identity $\mathbb{D}$-flow with $|a| < n$ (a `nowhere-identity $\mathbb{D}_n$-flow'). We give counterexamples to this statement and provide general obstructions. Furthermore, the complexity of the existence of nowhere-identity $\mathbb{D}_2$-flows is discussed. Lastly, graphs in which the equivalence of the existence of flows as above is true, are described. We focus particularly on cubic graphs.

We completely characterize the unimodal category for functions $f:\mathbb R\to[0,\infty)$ using a decomposition theorem obtained by generalizing the sweeping algorithm of Baryshnikov and Ghrist. We also give a characterization of the unimodal category for functions $f:S^1\to[0,\infty)$ and provide an algorithm to compute the unimodal category of such a function in the case of finitely many critical points.
We then turn to the monotonicity conjecture of Baryshnikov and Ghrist. We show that this conjecture is true for functions on $\mathbb R$ and $S^1$ using the above characterizations and that it is false on certain graphs and on the Euclidean plane by providing explicit counterexamples. We also show that it holds for functions on the Euclidean plane whose Morse-Smale graph is a tree using a result of Hickok, Villatoro and Wang.
