Asymptotic sign coherence conjecture
Published in Experimental Mathematics 31 (2022) 497-505 • Search Publication
The sign coherence phenomenon is an important feature of c-vectors in cluster algebras with principal coefficients. In this note, we consider a more general version of c-vectors defined for arbitrary cluster algebras of geometric type and formulate a conjecture describing their asymptotic behavior. This conjecture, which is called the asymptotic sign coherence conjecture, states that for any infinite sequence of matrix mutations that satisfies certain natural conditions, the corresponding c-vectors eventually become sign coherent. We prove this conjecture for rank 2 cluster algebras of infinite type and for a particular sequence of mutations in a cluster algebra associated with the Markov quiver.
Cluster algebras and discrete integrability
Cluster algebras are a class of commutative algebras whose generators are defined by a recursive process called mutation. We give a brief introduction to cluster algebras, and explain how discrete integrable systems can appear in the context of cluster mutation. In particular, we give examples of birational maps that are integrable in the Liouville sense and arise from cluster algebras with periodicity, as well as examples of discrete Painlevé equations that are derived from Y-systems.

$F$-matrices of cluster algebras from triangulated surfaces
Published in Annals of Combinatorics, Vol. 24 (2020) 649--695 • View PublicationBIB
For a given marked surface $(S,M)$ and a fixed tagged triangulation $T$ of $(S,M)$, we show that each tagged triangulation $T'$ of $(S,M)$ is uniquely determined by the intersection numbers of tagged arcs of $T$ and tagged arcs of $T'$. As consequence, each cluster in the cluster algebra $\mathcal{A}(T)$ is uniquely determined by its $F$-matrix which is a new numerical invariant of the cluster introduced by Fujiwara and Gyoda.

Cluster structures in Schubert varieties in the Grassmannian
Published • View PublicationBIB
In this article we explain how the coordinate ring of each (open) Schubert variety in the Grassmannian can be identified with a cluster algebra, whose combinatorial structure is encoded using (target labelings of) Postnikov's plabic graphs. This result generalizes a theorem of Scott (Scott 2006) for the Grassmannian, and proves a folklore conjecture for Schubert varieties that has been believed by experts since (Scott 2006), though the statement was not formally written down until Müller-Speyer explicitly conjectured it (Müller-Speyer 2016). To prove this conjecture we use a result of Leclerc (Leclerc 2016), who used the module category of the preprojective algebra to prove that coordinate rings of many Richardson varieties in the complete flag variety can be identified with cluster algebras. Our proof also uses a construction of Karpman (Karpman 2016) to build plabic graphs associated to reduced expressions. We additionally generalize our result to the setting of skew Schubert varieties; the latter result uses generalized plabic graphs, i.e. plabic graphs whose boundary vertices need not be labeled in cyclic order.

Exponents Associated with $Y$-Systems and their Relationship with $q$-Series
Published in SIGMA 16 (2020), 028, 42 pages • View PublicationBIB
Let $X_r$ be a finite type Dynkin diagram, and $\ell$ be a positive integer greater than or equal to two. The $Y$-system of type $X_r$ with level $\ell$ is a system of algebraic relations, whose solutions have been proved to have periodicity. For any pair $(X_r, \ell)$, we define an integer sequence called exponents using formulation of the $Y$-system by cluster algebras. We give a conjectural formula expressing the exponents by the root system of type $X_r$, and prove this conjecture for $(A_1,\ell)$ and $(A_r, 2)$ cases. We point out that a specialization of this conjecture gives a relationship between the exponents and the asymptotic dimension of an integrable highest weight module of an affine Lie algebra. We also give a point of view from $q$-series identities for this relationship.

A formula for $F$-Polynomials in terms of $C$-Vectors and Stabilization of $F$-Polynomials
Given a quiver associated to a cluster algebra and a sequence of vertices, iterative mutation leads to $F$-Polynomials which appear in numerous places in the cluster algebraic literature. The coefficients of the monomials in these $F$-Polynomials are difficult to understand and have been an area of study for many years. In this paper, we present a general closed-form formula for these coefficients in terms of elementary manipulations with $C$-matrices. We then demonstrate the effectiveness of the formula by using it to derive simple explicit formulas for $F$-Polynomials of specific classes of quivers and mutation sequences. Work has been done to do these cases in ad-hoc combinatorial ways, but our formula recovers and improves known formulas with a general method. Secondly, we investigate convergence of $F$-polynomials. In themselves, they do not converge, but by changing bases using the $C$-matrix, they conjecturally do. Since our formula relates $C$-matrix entries to coefficients, we are able to apply it to make considerable progress on the conjecture. Specifically, we show stability for green mutation sequences. Finally, we look at exact formulas for these stable deformed $F$-polynomials in instances where they illustrate properties that the $F$-polynomials themselves do not.

A Lattice Isomorphism Theorem for Cluster Groups of Mutation-Dynkin Type $A_{n}$
Published • View PublicationBIB
Each quiver appearing in a seed of a cluster algebra determines a corresponding group, which we call a cluster group, which is defined via a presentation. Grant and Marsh showed that, for quivers appearing in seeds of cluster algebras of finite type, the associated cluster groups are isomorphic to finite reflection groups. As for finite Coxeter groups, we can consider parabolic subgroups of cluster groups. We prove that, in the type $A_{n}$ case, there exists an isomorphism between the lattice of subsets of the defining generators of the cluster group and the lattice of its parabolic subgroups. Moreover, each parabolic subgroup has a presentation given by restricting the presentation of the whole group.

Non-Commutative Integrability of the Grassmann Pentagram Map
Published • View PublicationBIB
The pentagram map is a discrete integrable system first introduced by Schwartz in 1992. It was proved to be intregable by Schwartz, Ovsienko, and Tabachnikov in 2010. Gekhtman, Shapiro, and Vainshtein studied Poisson geometry associated to certain networks embedded in a disc or annulus, and its relation to cluster algebras. Later, Gekhtman et al. and Tabachnikov reinterpreted the pentagram map in terms of these networks, and used the associated Poisson structures to give a new proof of integrability. In 2011, Mari Beffa and Felipe introduced a generalization of the pentagram map to certain Grassmannians, and proved it was integrable. We reinterpret this Grassmann pentagram map in terms of noncommutative algebra, in particular the double brackets of Van den bergh, and generalize the approach of Gekhtman et al. to establish a noncommutative version of integrability.
Friezes satisfying higher SL$_k$-determinants
Published in Alg. Number Th. 15 (2021) 29-68 • View PublicationBIB
In this article, we construct SL$_k$-friezes using Plücker coordinates, making use of the cluster structure on the homogeneous coordinate ring of the Grassmannian of $k$-spaces in $n$-space via the Plücker embedding. When this cluster algebra is of finite type, the SL$_k$-friezes are in bijection with the so-called mesh friezes of the corresponding Grassmannian cluster category. These are collections of positive integers on the AR-quiver of the category with relations inherited from the mesh relations on the category. In these finite type cases, many of the SL$_k$-friezes arise from specialising a cluster to 1. These are called unitary. We use Iyama-Yoshino reduction to analyse the non-unitary friezes. With this, we provide an explanation for all known friezes of this kind. An appendix by Cuntz and Plamondon proves that there are 868 friezes of type $E_6$.

Positivity for quantum cluster algebras from unpunctured orbifolds
Published • View PublicationBIB
We give the quantum Laurent expansion formula for the quantum cluster algebras from unpunctured orbifolds with arbitrary coefficients and quantization. As an application, positivity for such class of quantum cluster algebras is given. For technical reasons, it will always be assumed that the weights of the orbifold points are 2.

Cluster algebras with Grassmann variables
Published • View PublicationBIB
We develop a version of cluster algebra extending the ring of Laurent polynomials by adding Grassmann variables. These algebras can be described in terms of `extended quivers' which are oriented hypergraphs. We describe mutations of such objects and define a corresponding commutative superalgebra. Our construction includes the notion of weighted quivers that has already appeared in different contexts. This paper is a step of understanding the notion of cluster superalgebra
ABHY Associahedra and Newton polytopes of $F$-polynomials for finite type cluster algebras
Published • View PublicationBIB
A new construction of the associahedron was recently given by Arkani-Hamed, Bai, He, and Yan in connection with the physics of scattering amplitudes. We show that their construction (suitably understood) can be applied to construct generalized associahedra of any simply-laced Dynkin type. Unexpectedly, we also show that this same construction produces Newton polytopes for all the $F$-polynomials of the corresponding cluster algebras. In addition, we show that the toric variety associated to the g-vector fan has the property that its nef cone is simplicial.

Duality between Final-Seed and Initial-Seed Mutations in Cluster Algebras
Published in SIGMA 15 (2019), 040, 24 pages • View PublicationBIB
We study the duality between the mutations and the initial-seed mutations in cluster algebras, where the initial-seed mutations are the transformations of rational expressions of cluster variables in terms of the initial cluster under the change of the initial cluster. In particular, we define the maximal degree matrices of the $F$-polynomials called the $F$-matrices and show that the $F$-matrices have the self-duality which is analogous to the duality between the $C$- and $G$-matrices.

Combinatorial cluster expansion formulas from triangulated surfaces
Published in Electron. J. Combin. Vol. 26, 2 (2019) P2.33 • View PublicationBIB
We give a cluster expansion formula for cluster algebras with principal coefficients defined from triangulated surfaces in terms of perfect matchings of angles. Our formula simplifies the cluster expansion formula given by Musiker-Schiffler-Williams in terms of perfect matchings of snake graphs. A key point of our proof is to give a bijection between perfect matchings of angles in some triangulated polygon and perfect matchings of the corresponding snake graph. Moreover, they also correspond bijectively with perfect matchings of the corresponding bipartite graph and minimal cuts of the corresponding quiver with potential.

An expansion formula for type A and Kronecker quantum cluster algebras
We introduce an expansion formula for elements in quantum cluster algebras associated to type A and Kronecker quivers with principal quantization. Our formula is parametrized by perfect matchings of snake graphs as in the classical case. In the Kronecker case, the coefficients are q-powers whose exponents are given by a weight function induced by the lattice of perfect matchings. As an application, we prove that a reflectional symmetry on the set of perfect matchings satisfies Stembridge's q=-1 phenomenon with respect to the weight function.

We study quantum cluster algebras from unpunctured surfaces with arbitrary coefficients and quantization. We first give a new proof of the Laurent expansion formulas for commutative cluster algebras from unpunctured surfaces, we then give the quantum Laurent expansion formulas for the quantum cluster algebras. Particularly, this gives a combinatorial proof of the positivity for such class of quantum cluster algebras.

Cluster categories from Grassmannians and root combinatorics
Published in Nagoya Math. J. 240 (2020) 322-354 • View PublicationBIB
The category of Cohen-Macaulay modules of an algebra $B_{k,n}$ is used [JKS16] to give an additive categorification of the cluster algebra structure on the homogeneous coordinate ring of the Grassmannian of $k$-planes in $n$-space. In this paper, we find canonical Auslander--Reiten sequences and study the Auslander--Reiten translation periodicity for this category. Furthermore, we give an explicit construction of Cohen-Macaulay modules of arbitrary rank. We then use our results to establish a correspondence between rigid indecomposable modules of rank 2 and real roots of degree 2 for the associated Kac-Moody algebra in the tame cases.

Reddening Sequences for Banff Quivers and the Class $\mathcal{P}$
Published in SIGMA 16 (2020), 049, 11 pages • View PublicationBIB
We show that a reddening sequence exists for any quiver which is Banff. Our proof is combinatorial and relies on the triangular extension construction for quivers. The other facts needed are that the existence of a reddening sequence is mutation invariant and passes to induced subquivers. Banff quivers define locally acyclic cluster algebras which are known to coincide with their upper cluster algebras. The existence of reddening sequences for these quivers is consistent with a conjectural relationship between the existence of a reddening sequence and a cluster algebra's equality with its upper cluster algebra. Our result completes a verification of the conjecture for Banff quivers. We also prove that a certain subclass of quivers within the class $\mathcal{P}$ define locally acyclic cluster algebras.

Positive Grassmannian and polyhedral subdivisions
Published • View PublicationBIB
The nonnegative Grassmannian is a cell complex with rich geometric, algebraic, and combinatorial structures. Its study involves interesting combinatorial objects, such as positroids and plabic graphs. Remarkably, the same combinatorial structures appeared in many other areas of mathematics and physics, e.g., in the study of cluster algebras, scattering amplitudes, and solitons. We discuss new ways to think about these structures. In particular, we identify plabic graphs and more general Grassmannian graphs with polyhedral subdivisions induced by 2-dimensional projections of hypersimplices. This implies a close relationship between the positive Grassmannian and the theory of fiber polytopes and the generalized Baues problem. This suggests natural extensions of objects related to the positive Grassmannian.

A combinatorial approach to scattering diagrams
Published • View PublicationBIB
Scattering diagrams arose in the context of mirror symmetry, but a special class of scattering diagrams (the cluster scattering diagrams) were recently developed to prove key structural results on cluster algebras. We use the connection to cluster algebras to calculate the function attached to the limiting wall of a rank-2 cluster scattering diagram of affine type. In the skew-symmetric rank-2 affine case, this recovers a formula due to Reineke. In the same case, we show that the generating function for signed Narayana numbers appears in a role analogous to a cluster variable. In acyclic finite type, we construct cluster scattering diagrams of acyclic finite type from Cambrian fans and sortable elements, with a simple direct proof.
