In this paper we enumerate and give bijections for the following four sets of vertices among rooted ordered trees of a fixed size: (i) first-children of degree $k$ at level $\ell$, (ii) non-first-children of degree $k$ at level $\ell-1$, (iii) leaves having $k-1$ elder siblings at level $\ell$, and (iv) non-leaves of outdegree $k$ at level $\ell-1$. Our results unite and generalize several previous works in the literature.
Complex martingales and asymptotic enumeration

Many enumeration problems in combinatorics, including such fundamental questions as the number of regular graphs, can be expressed as high-dimensional complex integrals. Motivated by the need for a systematic study of the asymptotic behaviour of such integrals, we establish explicit bounds on the exponentials of complex martingales. Those bounds applied to the case of truncated normal distributions are precise enough to include and extend many enumerative results of Barvinok, Canfield, Gao, Greenhill, Hartigan, Isaev, McKay, Wang, Wormald, and others. Our method applies to sums as well as integrals.
As a first illustration of the power of our theory, we considerably strengthen existing results on the relationship between random graphs or bipartite graphs with specified degrees and the so-called $β$-model of random graphs with independent edges, which is equivalent to the Rasch model in the bipartite case.
Sur l'énumération de structures discrètes, une approche par la théorie des relations
Theory of relations is the framework of this thesis. It is about enumeration of finite structures. Let $\mathscr C$ be a class of finite combinatorial structures, the \emph{profile} of $\mathscr C$ is the function $\varphi_{\mathscr C}$ which count, for every $n$, the number of members of $\mathscr{C}$ defined on $n$ elements, isomorphic structures been identified. The generating function for $\mathscr C$ is $\mathcal H_{\mathscr C}(X):=\sum_{n\geqq 0}\varphi_{\mathscr C}(n)X^n$. Many results about the behavior of the function $\varphi_{\mathscr C}$ have been obtained. Albert and Atkinson have shown that the generating series of the profile of some classes of permutations are algebraic. we show how this result extends to classes of ordered binary structures using the notions of theory of relations. This is the subject of the first part of this thesis. The second part is concerned with the notion of minimality. An hereditary class of finite structures is minimal if it is infinite and every proper hereditary subclass is finite. We show, in particular, that ind-minimal classes are wqo ages and their number is the continuum.
The last part is motivated by the surprising phenomenon of the \emph{jump} observed in the behavior of the profile of hereditary classes of finite structures. We show that the profile of an hereditary classe made of ordered structures which have finite monomorphic decomposition is a polynomial. We also show that if the profile of a hereditary class of finite ordered binary structures is not bounded by a polynomial then it is at least exponential. This result generalizes the result obtained by Balogh, Bollobás and Morris (2006) for ordered graphs.
On $(2k+1, 2k+3)$-core partitions with distinct parts
In this paper, we are mainly concerned with the enumeration of $(2k+1, 2k+3)$-core partitions with distinct parts. We derive the number and the largest size of such partitions, confirming two conjectures posed by Straub.
Rectangular Schroder Parking Functions Combinatorics
We study Schroder paths drawn in a (m,n) rectangle, for any positive integers m and n. We get explicit enumeration formulas, closely linked to those for the corresponding (m,n)-Dyck paths. Moreover we study a Schroder version of (m,n)-parking functions, and associated (q,t)-analogs.
Primitive transformation shift registers of order two over fields of characteristic two
We consider the problem of enumeration of primitive TSRs of order n over any finite field. Here we prove the existence of primitive TSRs of order two over binary field extensions. Moreover we give a general search algorithm for primitive TSRs of odd order over any finite field and in particular of order two over fields of characteristic 2. We also give certain bounds on the number of primitive TSRs in special cases and propose a conjecture regarding the existence of certain special type of primitive polynomials, which answers the existence of primitive TSRs of odd order n over Fqm and primitive TSRs of order greater than 3 over binary field extensions..

In contrast to traditional toy tracks, a patented system allows the creation of a large number of tracks with a minimal number of pieces, and whose loops always close properly. These circuits strongly resemble traditional self-avoiding polygons (whose explicit enumeration has not yet been resolved for an arbitrary number of squares) yet there are numerous differences, notably the fact that the geometric constraints are different than those of self-avoiding polygons. We present the methodology allowing the construction and enumeration of all of the possible tracks containing a given number of pieces. For small numbers of pieces, several variants are proposed which allow the consideration or not of the fact that the obtained circuits are identical up to a given isometry. For greater numbers of pieces, only an estimation will be offered. In the latter case, a randomly construction of circuits is also given. We will give some routes for generalizations for similar problems.

We review an approach which aims at studying discrete (pseudo-)manifolds in dimension $d\geq 2$ and called random tensor models. More specifically, we insist on generalizing the two-dimensional notion of $p$-angulations to higher dimensions. To do so, we consider families of triangulations built out of simplices with colored faces. Those simplices can be glued to form new building blocks, called bubbles which are pseudo-manifolds with boundaries. Bubbles can in turn be glued together to form triangulations. The main challenge is to classify the triangulations built from a given set of bubbles with respect to their numbers of bubbles and simplices of codimension two. While the colored triangulations which maximize the number of simplices of codimension two at fixed number of simplices are series-parallel objects called melonic triangulations, this is not always true anymore when restricting attention to colored triangulations built from specific bubbles. This opens up the possibility of new universality classes of colored triangulations. We present three existing strategies to find those universality classes. The first two strategies consist in building new bubbles from old ones for which the problem can be solved. The third strategy is a bijection between those colored triangulations and stuffed, edge-colored maps, which are some sort of hypermaps whose hyperedges are replaced with edge-colored maps. We then show that the present approach can lead to enumeration results and identification of universality classes, by working out the example of quartic tensor models. They feature a tree-like phase, a planar phase similar to two-dimensional quantum gravity and a phase transition between them which is interpreted as a proliferation of baby universes.
Asymptotic joint distribution of the extremities of a random Young diagram and enumeration of graphical partitions

An integer partition of $n$ is a decreasing sequence of positive integers that add up to $[n]$. Back in $1979$ Macdonald posed a question about the limit value of the probability that two partitions chosen uniformly at random, and independently of each other, are comparable in terms of the dominance order. In $1982$ Wilf conjectured that the uniformly random partition is a size-ordered degree sequence of a simple graph with the limit probability $0$. In $1997$ we showed that in both, seemingly unrelated, cases the limit probabilities are indeed zero, but our method left open the problem of convergence rates. The main result in this paper is that each of the probabilities is $e^{-0.11\log n/\log\log n}$, at most. A key element of the argument is a local limit theorem, with convergence rate, for the joint distribution of the $[n^{1/4-\varepsilon}]$ tallest columns and the $[n^{1/4-\varepsilon}]$ longest rows of the Young diagram representing the random partition.
Enumeration and Maximum Number of Minimal Connected Vertex Covers in Graphs

Connected Vertex Cover is one of the classical problems of computer science, already mentioned in the monograph of Garey and Johnson. Although the optimization and decision variants of finding connected vertex covers of minimum size or weight are well studied, surprisingly there is no work on the enumeration or maximum number of minimal connected vertex covers of a graph. In this paper we show that the maximum number of minimal connected vertex covers of a graph is at most 1.8668^n, and these can be enumerated in time O(1.8668^n). For graphs of chordality at most 5, we are able to give a better upper bound, and for chordal graphs and distance-hereditary graphs we are able to give tight bounds on the maximum number of minimal connected vertex covers.
A randomized algorithm for enumerating zonotope vertices
We propose a randomized algorithm for enumerating the vertices of a zonotope, which is a low-dimensional linear projection of a hypercube. The algorithm produces a pair of the zonotope's vertices by sampling a random linear combination of the zonotope generators, where the combination's weights are the signs of the product between the zonotope's generator matrix and random vectors with normally distributed entries. We study the probability of recovering particular vertices and relate it to the vertices' normal cones. This study shows that if we terminate the randomized algorithm before all vertices are recovered, then the convex hull of the resulting vertex set approximates the zonotope. In high dimensions, we expect the enumeration algorithm to be most appropriate as an approximation algorithm---particularly for cases when existing methods are not practical.
Basic enumeration of graph compositions with a restricted number of components
The concept of graph compositions is related to several number theoretic concepts, including partitions of positive integers and the cardinality of the power set of finite sets. This paper examines graph compositions where the total number of components is restricted and illustrates a connection between graph compositions and Stirling numbers of the second kind.

Answering a question of Geoff Robinson, we compute the large n limiting proportion of i(n,q)/q^[n^2/2], where i(n,q) denotes the number of involutions in GL(n,q). We give similar results for the finite unitary, symplectic, and orthogonal groups, in both odd and even characteristic. At the heart of this work are certain new "sum=product" identities. Our self-contained treatment of the enumeration of involutions in even characteristic symplectic and orthogonal groups may also be of interest.
On 2K2-free graphs - Structural and Combinatorial View
A connected graph is 2K2-free if it does not contain a pair of independent edges as an induced subgraph. In this paper, we present the structural characterization of minimal vertex separator and show that there are polynomial number of minimal vertex separators in 2K2-free graphs. Further, using the enumeration we show that finding minimum connected vertex separator in 2K2-free graphs is polynomial time solvable. We highlight that finding minimum connected vertex separator is NP-complete in Chordality 5 graphs, which is a super graph class of 2K2-free graphs. Other study includes, enumeration of all distinct maximal independent sets and testing 2K2-free graphs. Also, we present an polynomial time algorithm for feedback vertex set problem in the subclass of 2K2-free graphs.

We consider a class of lattice paths with certain restrictions on their ascents and down steps and use them as building blocks to construct various families of Dyck paths. We let every building block $P_j$ take on $c_j$ colors and count all of the resulting colored Dyck paths of a given semilength. Our approach is to prove a recurrence relation of convolution type, which yields a representation in terms of partial Bell polynomials that simplifies the handling of different colorings. This allows us to recover multiple known formulas for Dyck paths and related lattice paths in an unified manner.
Combinatorial Scoring of Phylogenetic Networks

Construction of phylogenetic trees and networks for extant species from their characters represents one of the key problems in phylogenomics. While solution to this problem is not always uniquely defined and there exist multiple methods for tree/network construction, it becomes important to measure how well the constructed networks capture the given character relationship across the species.
In the current study, we propose a novel method for measuring the specificity of a given phylogenetic network in terms of the total number of distributions of character states at the leaves that the network may impose. While for binary phylogenetic trees, this number has an exact formula and depends only on the number of leaves and character states but not on the tree topology, the situation is much more complicated for non-binary trees or networks. Nevertheless, we develop an algorithm for combinatorial enumeration of such distributions, which is applicable for arbitrary trees and networks under some reasonable assumptions.

In this paper we introduce, and characterize, a class of graph parameters obtained from tensor invariants of the symplectic group. These parameters are similar to partition functions of vertex models, as introduced by de la Harpe and Jones, [P. de la Harpe, V.F.R. Jones, Graph invariants related to statistical mechanical models: examples and problems, Journal of Combinatorial Theory, Series B 57 (1993) 207-227]. Yet they give a completely different class of graph invariants. We moreover show that certain evaluations of the cycle partition polynomial, as defined by Martin [P. Martin, Enumérations eulériennes dans les multigraphes et invariants de Tutte-Grothendieck, Diss. Institut National Polytechnique de Grenoble-INPG; Université Joseph-Fourier-Grenoble I, 1977], give examples of graph parameters that can be obtained this way.

We consider discretisations of the Macdonald--Mehta integrals from the theory of finite reflection groups. For the classical groups, $\mathrm{A}_{r-1}$, $\mathrm{B}_r$ and $\mathrm{D}_r$, we provide closed-form evaluations in those cases for which the Weyl denominators featuring in the summands have exponents $1$ and $2$. Our proofs for the exponent-$1$ cases rely on identities for classical group characters, while most of the formulas for the exponent-$2$ cases are derived from a transformation formula for elliptic hypergeometric series for the root system $\mathrm{BC}_r$. As a byproduct of our results, we obtain closed-form product formulas for the (ordinary and signed) enumeration of orthogonal and symplectic tableaux contained in a box.

We address the problem of enumerating paths in square lattices, where allowed steps include (1,0) and (0,1) everywhere, and (1,1) above the diagonal y=x. We consider two such lattices differing in whether the (1,1) steps are allowed along the diagonal itself. Our analysis leads to explicit generating functions and an efficient way to compute terms of many sequences in the Online Encyclopedia of Integer Sequences, proposed by Clark Kimberling almost two decades ago.
