Let G be a planar graph with a list assignment L. Suppose a preferred color is given for some of the vertices. We prove that if G is triangle-free and all lists have size at least four, then there exists an L-coloring respecting at least a constant fraction of the preferences.

Given a graph $G$ and a subset of vertices $S = \{w_1, \ldots, w_t\} \subseteq V(G)$, the multiset representation of a vertex $u\in V(G)$ with respect to $S$ is the multiset $m(u|S) = \{| d_G(u, w_1), \ldots, d_G(u, w_t) |\}$. A subset of vertices $S$ such that $m(u|S) = m(v|S) \iff u = v$ for every $u, v \in V(G) \setminus S$ is said to be a multiset resolving set, and the cardinality of the smallest such set is the outer multiset dimension. We study the general behaviour of the outer multiset dimension, and determine its exact value for several graph families. We also show that computing the outer multiset dimension of arbitrary graphs is NP-hard, and provide methods for efficiently handling particular cases.

Generalized cut method for computing the edge-Wiener index

The edge-Wiener index of a connected graph $G$ is defined as the Wiener index of the line graph of $G$. In this paper it is shown that the edge-Wiener index of an edge-weighted graph can be computed in terms of the Wiener index, the edge-Wiener index, and the vertex-edge-Wiener index of weighted quotient graphs which are defined by a partition of the edge set that is coarser than $Θ^*$-partition. Thus, already known analogous methods for computing the edge-Wiener index of benzenoid systems and phenylenes are greatly generalized. Moreover, reduction theorems are developed for the edge-Wiener index and the vertex-edge-Wiener index since they can be applied in order to compute a corresponding index of a (quotient) graph from the so-called reduced graph. Finally, the obtained results are used to find the closed formula for the edge-Wiener index of an infinite family of graphs.
Graph-theoretic Simplification of Quantum Circuits with the ZX-calculus

We present a completely new approach to quantum circuit optimisation, based on the ZX-calculus. We first interpret quantum circuits as ZX-diagrams, which provide a flexible, lower-level language for describing quantum computations graphically. Then, using the rules of the ZX-calculus, we give a simplification strategy for ZX-diagrams based on the two graph transformations of local complementation and pivoting and show that the resulting reduced diagram can be transformed back into a quantum circuit. While little is known about extracting circuits from arbitrary ZX-diagrams, we show that the underlying graph of our simplified ZX-diagram always has a graph-theoretic property called generalised flow, which in turn yields a deterministic circuit extraction procedure. For Clifford circuits, this extraction procedure yields a new normal form that is both asymptotically optimal in size and gives a new, smaller upper bound on gate depth for nearest-neighbour architectures. For Clifford+T and more general circuits, our technique enables us to to `see around' gates that obstruct the Clifford structure and produce smaller circuits than naive 'cut-and-resynthesise' methods.
t-wise Berge and t-heavy hypergraphs
In many proofs concerning extremal parameters of Berge hypergraphs one starts with analyzing that part of that shadow graph which is contained in many hyperedges. Capturing this phenomenon we introduce two new types of hypergraphs. A hypergraph $\mathcal{H}$ is a $t$-heavy copy of a graph $F$ if there is a copy of $F$ on its vertex set such that each edge of $F$ is contained in at least $t$ hyperedges of $\mathcal{H}$. $\mathcal{H}$ is a $t$-wise Berge copy of $F$ if additionally for distinct edges of $F$ those $t$ hyperedges are distinct.
We extend known upper bounds on the Turán number of Berge hypergraphs to the $t$-wise Berge hypergraphs case. We asymptotically determine the Turán number of $t$-heavy and $t$-wise Berge copies of long paths and cycles and exactly determine the Turán number of $t$-heavy and $t$-wise Berge copies of cliques.
In the case of 3-uniform hypergraphs, we consider the problem in more details and obtain additional results.
Complete multipartite graphs that are determined, up to switching, by their Seidel spectrum

It is known that complete multipartite graphs are determined by their distance spectrum but not by their adjacency spectrum. The Seidel spectrum of a graph $G$ on more than one vertex does not determine the graph, since any graph obtained from $G$ by Seidel switching has the same Seidel spectrum. We consider $G$ to be determined by its Seidel spectrum, up to switching, if any graph with the same spectrum is switching equivalent to a graph isomorphic to $G$. It is shown that any graph which has the same spectrum as a complete $k$-partite graph is switching equivalent to a complete $k$-partite graph, and if the different partition sets sizes are $p_1,\ldots, p_l$, and there are at least three partition sets of each size $p_i$, $i=1,\ldots, l$, then $G$ is determined, up to switching, by its Seidel spectrum. Sufficient conditions for a complete tripartite graph to be determined by its Seidel spectrum are discussed, and a conjecture is made on complete tripartite graphs on more than 18 vertices.

The eccentricity matrix of a connected graph $G$ is obtained from the distance matrix of $G$ by retaining the largest distances in each row and each column, and setting the remaining entries as $0$. In this article, a conjecture about the least eigenvalue of eccentricity matrices of trees, presented in the article [Jianfeng Wang, Mei Lu, Francesco Belardo, Milan Randic. The anti-adjacency matrix of a graph: Eccentricity matrix. Discrete Applied Mathematics, 251: 299-309, 2018.], is solved affirmatively. In addition to this, the spectra and the inertia of eccentricity matrices of various classes of graphs are investigated.
Comments on "Discrete Groups, Expanding Graphs and Invariant Measures", by Alexander Lubotzky
This document is a collection of comments that I wrote down while reading the first four chapters of the book "Discrete Groups, Expanding Graphs and Invariant Measures" by Alexander Lubotzky. Most of them are more detailed versions of proofs. Some imprecisions are pointed out and discussed, and some facts referenced in the book are proven. In the appendix we discuss topics of interest in relation to this book, which are however not necessary for its understanding. The aim of this document, which is not quite complete in that respect, is to provide, together with Lubotzky's book, a self-contained read.
On Genus g Orientable Crossing Numbers of Small Complete Graphs
The current state of knowledge of genus g orientable crossing numbers of complete graphs through K11 is reviewed. It is shown that cr3(K10)=3, cr3(K11)<=14, and cr4(K11)=4. It is established with the aid of an algorithm that there are precisely two non-isomorphic embeddings of K9 with a hexagon with all its vertices distinct on a surface of genus 3.

Materials science and the study of the electronic properties of solids are a major field of interest in both physics and engineering. The starting point for all such calculations is single-electron, or non-interacting, band structure calculations, and in the limit of strong on-site confinement this can be reduced to graph-like tight-binding models. In this context, both mathematicians and physicists have developed largely independent methods for solving these models. In this paper we will combine and present results from both fields. In particular, we will discuss a class of lattices which can be realized as line graphs of other lattices, both in Euclidean and hyperbolic space. These lattices display highly unusual features including flat bands and localized eigenstates of compact support. We will use the methods of both fields to show how these properties arise and systems for classifying the phenomenology of these lattices, as well as criteria for maximizing the gaps. Furthermore, we will present a particular hardware implementation using superconducting coplanar waveguide resonators that can realize a wide variety of these lattices in both non-interacting and interacting form.
Lattices from tight frames and vertex transitive graphs
We show that real tight frames that generate lattices must be rational, and use this observation to describe a construction of lattices from vertex transitive graphs. In the case of irreducible group frames, we show that the corresponding lattice is always strongly eutactic. This is the case for the more restrictive class of distance transitive graphs. We show that such lattices exist in arbitrarily large dimensions and demonstrate examples arising from some notable families of graphs. In particular, some well-known root lattices and those related to them can be recovered this way. We discuss various properties of this construction and also mention some potential applications of lattices generated by incoherent systems of vectors.
Spectra of $(H_1,H_2)$-merged subdivision graph of a graph
In this paper, we define a ternary graph operation which generalizes the construction of subdivision graph, $R-$graph, central graph. Also, it generalizes the construction of overlay graph (Marius Somodi \emph{et al.}, 2017), and consequently, $Q-$graph, total graph, and quasitotal graph. We denote this new graph by $[S(G)]^{H_1}_{H_2}$, where $G$ is a graph and, $H_1$ and $H_2$ are suitable graphs corresponding to $G$. Further, we define several new unary graph operations which becomes particular cases of this construction. We determine the Adjacency and Laplacian spectra of $[S(G)]^{H_1}_{H_2}$ for some classes of graphs $G$, $H_1$ and $H_2$. From these results, we derive the $L$-spectrum of the graphs obtained by the unary graph operations mentioned above. As applications, these results enable us to compute the number of spanning trees and Kirchhoff index of these graphs.
Connected domination game: predomination, Staller-start game, and lexicographic products
The connected domination game was recently introduced by Borowiecki, Fiedorowicz and Sidorowicz as another variation of the domination game. The rules are essentially the same, except that the set of played vertices must be connected at all stages of the game. We answer a problem from their paper regarding the relation between the number of moves in a game where Dominator/Staller starts the game. In this paper we also study the relation to the diameter and present graphs with small connected game domination number. We determine the values on the lexicographic product graphs, and consider the effect of predomination of a vertex on the connected game domination number.
Ramsey properties of randomly perturbed dense graphs
We investigate Ramsey properties of a random graph model in which random edges are added to a given dense graph. Specifically, we determine lower and upper bounds on the function $p=p(n)$ that ensures that for any dense graph $G_n$ a.a.s. every 2-colouring of the edges of $G_n\cup G(n,p)$ admits a monochromatic copy of the complete graph $K_r$. These bounds are asymptotically sharp for the cases when $r\geq 5$ is odd and almost sharp when $r\geq 4$ is even. Our proofs utilise recent results on the threshold for asymmetric Ramsey properties in $G(n,p)$ and the method of dependent random choice.
Minor-Obstructions for Apex Sub-unicyclic Graphs
A graph is sub-unicyclic if it contains at most one cycle. We also say that a graph $G$ is $k$-apex sub-unicyclic if it can become sub-unicyclic by removing $k$ of its vertices.
We identify 29 graphs that are the minor-obstructions of the class of $1$-apex sub-unicyclic graphs, i.e., the set of all minor minimal graphs that do not belong in this class.
For bigger values of $k$, we give an exact structural characterization of all the cactus graphs that are minor-obstructions of $k$-apex sub-unicyclic graphs and we enumerate them. This implies that, for every $k$, the class of $k$-apex sub-unicyclic graphs has at least $0.34\cdot k^{-2.5}(6.278)^{k}$ minor-obstructions.
Chromatic Polynomial and Heaps of Pieces
Stanley in his paper [Stanley, Richard P.: Acyclic orientations of graphs In: Discrete Mathematics 5 (1973), Nr. 2, S. 171-178.] provided interpretations of the chromatic polynomial when it is substituted with negative integers. Greene and Zaslavsky interpreted the coefficients of the chromatic polynomial in [Greene, Curtis ; Zaslavsky, Thomas: On the interpretation of Whitney numbers through arrangements of hyperplanes, zonotopes, non-Radon partitions, and orientations of graphs. In: Transactions of the American Mathematical Society 280 (1983), jan, Nr. 1, S. 97-97.]. We shall develop an involution on factorisations of heaps of pieces and using this involution, we shall provide bijective proofs to results from both the papers.
Reconfiguring 10-colourings of planar graphs
Let $k \geq 1$ be an integer. The reconfiguration graph $R_k(G)$ of the $k$-colourings of a graph~$G$ has as vertex set the set of all possible $k$-colourings of $G$ and two colourings are adjacent if they differ on exactly one vertex. A conjecture of Cereceda from 2007 asserts that for every integer $\ell \geq k + 2$ and $k$-degenerate graph $G$ on $n$ vertices, $R_{\ell}(G)$ has diameter $O(n^2)$. The conjecture has been verified only when $\ell \geq 2k + 1$. We give a simple proof that if $G$ is a planar graph on $n$ vertices, then $R_{10}(G)$ has diameter at most $n^2$. Since planar graphs are $5$-degenerate, this affirms Cereceda's conjecture for planar graphs in the case $\ell = 2k$.

A group $G$ splits over a subgroup $C$ if $G$ is either a free product with amalgamation $A \underset{C}{\ast} B$ or an HNN-extension $G=A \underset{C}{\ast} (t)$. We invoke Bass-Serre theory and classify all infinite groups which admit cubic Cayley graphs of connectivity two in terms of splittings over a subgroup.
