We consider the conjugation-action of the Borel subgroup of the symplectic or the orthogonal group on the variety of nilpotent complex elements of nilpotency degree $2$ in its Lie algebra. We translate the setup to a representation-theoretic context in the language of a symmetric quiver algebra. This makes it possible to provide a parametrization of the orbits via a combinatorial tool that we call symplectic/orthogonal oriented link patterns. We deduce information about numerology. We then generalize these classifications to standard parabolic subgroups for all classical groups. Finally, our results are restricted to the nilradical.
A Centrality Measure for Cycles and Subgraphs II

In a recent work we introduced a measure of importance for groups of vertices in a complex network. This centrality for groups is always between 0 and 1 and induces the eigenvector centrality over vertices. Furthermore, its value over any group is the fraction of all network flows intercepted by this group. Here we provide the rigorous mathematical constructions underpinning these results via a semi-commutative extension of a number theoretic sieve. We then established further relations between the eigenvector centrality and the centrality proposed here, showing that the latter is a proper extension of the former to groups of nodes. We finish by comparing the centrality proposed here with the notion of group-centrality introduced by Everett and Borgatti on two real-world networks: the Wolfe's dataset and the protein-protein interaction network of the yeast \textit{Saccharomyces cerevisiae}. In this latter case, we demonstrate that the centrality is able to distinguish protein complexes.

In Artin-Tits groups attached to Coxeter groups of spherical type, we give a combinatorial formula to express the simple elements of the dual braid monoids in the classical Artin generators. Every simple dual braid is obtained by lifting an $S$-reduced expression of its image in the Coxeter group, in a way which involves Reading's $c$-sortable elements. It has as an immediate consequence that simple dual braids are Mikado braids (the known proofs of this result either require topological realizations of the Artin groups or categorification techniques), and hence that their images in the Iwahori-Hecke algebras have positivity properties. In the classical types, this requires to give an explicit description of the inverse of Reading's bijection from $c$-sortable elements to noncrossing partitions of a Coxeter element $c$, which might be of independent interest. The bijections are described in terms of the noncrossing partition models in these types. While the proof of the formula is case-by-case, it is entirely combinatorial and we develop an approach which reduces a uniform proof to uniformly proving a lemma about inversion sets of $c$-sortable elements.

We prove some Schur positivity results for the chromatic symmetric function $X_G$ of a (hyper)graph $G$, using connections to the group algebra of the symmetric group. The first such connection works for (hyper)forests $F$: we describe the Schur coefficients of $X_F$ in terms of eigenvalues of a product of Hermitian idempotents in the group algebra, one factor for each edge (a more general formula of similar shape holds for all chordal graphs). Our main application of this technique is to prove a conjecture of Taylor on the Schur positivity of certain $X_F$, which implies Schur positivity of the formal group laws associated to various combinatorial generating functions. We also introduce the pointed chromatic symmetric function $X_{G,v}$ associated to a rooted graph $(G,v)$. We prove that if $X_{G,v}$ and $X_{H,w}$ are positive in the generalized Schur basis of Strahov, then the chromatic symmetric function of the wedge sum of $(G,v)$ and $(H,w)$ is Schur positive.
Schur Ring over Group $\Z_{2}^{n}$, Circulant $S-$Sets Invariant by Decimation and Hadamard Matrices
In this paper a variety of issues are discussed, Schur ring, $S$-sets, circulant orbits, decimation operator and Hadamard matrices and their relation between them is shown. Firstly we define the complete $S$-sets. Next, we study the structure of Schur ring with circulant basic sets over $\Z_{2}^{n}$ and we define the free and non-free circulant $S$-sets, the symmetric, non-symmetric and antisymmetric circulant $S$-sets. We prove that all this $S$-sets are invariants under decimation. Finally, we prove that if a Hadamard matrix exist then this is contained in a complete $S$-set. Also, we prove that can't exist circulant and with one core Hadamard matrices with some particular structure. These theorems include a result known on symmetric circulant Hadamard matrices of order $4n$ only when $n$ is an odd number.

Following ideas that go back to Cannon, we show the rationality of various generating functions of growth sequences counting embeddings of convex subgraphs in locally-finite, vertex-transitive graphs with the (relative) falsification by fellow traveler property (fftp). In particular, we recover results of Cannon, of Epstein, Iano-Fletcher and Zwick, and of Calegari and Fujiwara. One of our applications concerns Schreier coset graphs of hyperbolic groups relative to quasi-convex subgroups, we show that these graphs have rational growth, the falsification by fellow traveler property, and the existence of a lower bound for the growth rate independent of the finite generating set and the infinite index quasi-convex subgroup.
$CI$-property for decomposable Schur rings over an abelian group
A Schur ring over a finite group is said to be decomposable if it is the generalized wreath product of Schur rings over smaller groups. In this paper we establish a sufficient condition for a decomposable Schur ring over the direct product of elementary abelian groups to be a $CI$-Schur ring. By using this condition we reprove in a short way known results on the $CI$-property for decomposable Schur rings over an elementary abelian group of rank at most $5$.

Popov classified crystallographic complex reflection groups by determining lattices they stabilize. These analogs of affine Weyl groups have infinite order and are generated by reflections about affine hyperplanes; most arise as the semi-direct product of a finite complex reflection group and a full rank lattice. Steinberg's fixed point theorem asserts that the regular orbits under the action of a reflection group are exactly the orbits lying off of reflecting hyperplanes. This theorem holds for finite reflection groups (real or complex) and also affine Weyl groups but fails for some crystallographic complex reflection groups. We determine when Steinberg's theorem holds for the infinite family of crystallographic complex reflection groups. We include crystallographic groups built on finite Coxeter groups.

In this paper, we investigate the connection between infinite permutation monoids and bimorphism monoids of first-order structures. Taking our lead from the study of automorphism groups of structures as infinite permutation groups and the more recent developments in the field of homomorphism-homogeneous structures, we establish a series of results that underline this connection. Of particular interest is the idea of MB-homogeneity; a relational structure $\mathcal{M}$ is MB-homogeneous if every monomorphism between finite substructures of $\mathcal{M}$ extends to a bimorphism of $\mathcal{M}$. The results in question include a characterisation of closed permutation monoids, a Fraïssé-like theorem for MB-homogeneous structures, and the construction of $2^{\aleph_0}$ pairwise non-isomorphic countable MB-homogeneous graphs. We prove that any finite group arises as the automorphism group of some MB-homogeneous graph and use this to construct oligomorphic permutation monoids with any given finite group of units. We also consider MB-homogeneity for various well-known examples of homogeneous structures and in particular give a complete classification of countable homogeneous undirected graphs that are also MB-homogeneous.

Suppose $G$ is a finite group and $A\subseteq G$ is such that $\{gA:g\in G\}$ has VC-dimension strictly less than $k$. We find algebraically well-structured sets in $G$ which, up to a chosen $ε>0$, describe the structure of $A$ and behave regularly with respect to translates of $A$. For the subclass of groups with uniformly fixed finite exponent $r$, these algebraic objects are normal subgroups with index bounded in terms of $k$, $r$, and $ε$. For arbitrary groups, we use Bohr neighborhoods of bounded rank and width inside normal subgroups of bounded index. Our proofs are largely model theoretic, and heavily rely on a structural analysis of compactifications of pseudofinite groups as inverse limits of Lie groups. The introduction of Bohr neighborhoods into the nonabelian setting uses model theoretic methods related to the work of Breuillard, Green, and Tao and Hrushovski on approximate groups, as well as a result of Alekseev, Glebskii, and Gordon on approximate homomorphisms.

We systematize and analyze some results obtained in Subset Combinatorics of $G$ groups after publications the previous surveys [1-4]. The main topics: the dynamical and descriptive characterizations of subsets of a group relatively their combinatorial size, Ramsey-product subsets in connection with some general concept of recurrence in $G$-spaces, new ideals in the Boolean algebra $\mathcal{P}_{G}$ of all subsets of a group $G$ and in the Stone-$\check{C}$ech compactification $βG$ of $G$ , the combinatorial derivation.

We study a notion of VC-dimension for subsets of groups, defining this for a set $A$ to be the VC-dimension of the family $\{ (xA) \cap A : x \in A\cdot A^{-1} \}$. We show that if a finite subset $A$ of an abelian group has bounded VC-dimension, then the convolution $1_A*1_{-A}$ is Bohr uniformly continuous, in a quantitatively strong sense. This generalises and strengthens a version of the stable arithmetic regularity lemma of Terry and Wolf in various ways. In particular, it directly implies that the Polynomial Bogolyubov--Ruzsa Conjecture -- a strong version of the Polynomial Freiman--Ruzsa Conjecture -- holds for sets with bounded VC-dimension. We also prove some results in the non-abelian setting.
In some sense, this gives a structure theorem for translation-closed set systems with bounded (classical) VC-dimension: if a VC-bounded family of subsets of an abelian group is closed under translation, then each member has a simple description in terms of Bohr sets, up to a small error.

Let $G$ be a finite group and $G'$ its commutator subgroup. By a sequence over $G$, we mean a finite unordered sequence of terms from $G$, where repetition is allowed, and we say that it is a product-one sequence if its terms can be ordered such that their product equals the identity element of $G$. The monoid $\mathcal B (G)$ of all product-one sequences over $G$ is a finitely generated C-monoid whence it has a finite commutative class semigroup. It is well-known that the class semigroup is a group if and only if $G$ is abelian (equivalently, $\mathcal B (G)$ is Krull). In the present paper we show that the class semigroup is Clifford (i.e., a union of groups) if and only if $|G'| \le 2$ if and only if $\mathcal B (G)$ is seminormal, and we study sets of lengths in $\mathcal B (G)$.

In this paper, we study gamma-positivity of descent-type polynomials by introducing the change of context-free grammars method. We first present grammatical proofs of the gamma-positivity of the Eulerian polynomials, type B Eulerian polynomials, derangement polynomials, Narayana polynomials and type B Narayana polynomials. We then provide partial gamma-positive expansions for several multivariate polynomials associated to Stirling permutations, Legendre-Stirling permutations, Jacobi-Stirling permutations and type B derangements, and the recurrences for the partial gamma-coefficients of these expansions are also obtained. Moreover, we define variants of the Foata-Strehl group action which are used to give combinatorial interpretations for the coefficients of most of these partial gamma-positive expansions.
Cubic Preferences and the Character Admissibility Problem

In multiple-question referendum elections, the separability problem occurs when a voter's preferences on some questions or proposals depend on the predicted outcomes of others. The notion of separability formalizes the study of interdependence in multidimensional preferences, and the character admissibility problem deals with the construction of voter preferences with given separability structures. In this paper, we develop a graph theoretic approach to the character admissibilty problem, using Hamiltonian paths to generate voter preferences. We apply this method specifically to the hypercube graph, defining the class of cubic preferences. We then explore how the algebraic structure of the group of symmetries of the hypercube impacts the separability structures exhibited by cubic preferences. We prove that the characters of cubic preferences satisfy set theoretic properties distinct from those produced by previous methods, and we define two functions to construct cubic preferences. Our results have potential applications to experimental work involving election simulation.

We say that a finite subset of the unit sphere in $\mathbf{R}^d$ is transitive if there is a group of isometries which acts transitively on it. We show that the width of any transitive set is bounded above by a constant times $(\log d)^{-1/2}$.
This is a consequence of the following result: If $G$ is a finite group and $ρ: G \rightarrow \mbox{U}_d(\mathbf{C})$ a unitary representation, and if $v \in \mathbf{C}^d$ is a unit vector, there is another unit vector $w \in \mathbf{C}^d$ such that \[ \sup_{g \in G} |\langle ρ(g) v, w \rangle| \leq (1 + c \log d)^{-1/2}.\]
These results answer a question of Yufei Zhao. An immediate consequence of our result is that the diameter of any quotient $S(\mathbf{R}^d)/G$ of the unit sphere by a finite group $G$ of isometries is at least $π/2 - o_{d \rightarrow \infty}(1)$.

We continue the study of the properties of graphs in which the ball of radius $r$ around each vertex induces a graph isomorphic to the ball of radius $r$ in some fixed vertex-transitive graph $F$, for various choices of $F$ and $r$. This is a natural extension of the study of regular graphs. More precisely, if $F$ is a vertex-transitive graph and $r \in \mathbb{N}$, we say a graph $G$ is {\em $r$-locally $F$} if the ball of radius $r$ around each vertex of $G$ induces a graph isomorphic to the graph induced by the ball of radius $r$ around any vertex of $F$. We consider the following random graph model: for each $n \in \mathbb{N}$, we let $G_n = G_n(F,r)$ be a graph chosen uniformly at random from the set of all unlabelled, $n$-vertex graphs that are $r$-locally $F$. We investigate the properties possessed by the random graph $G_n$ with high probability, for various natural choices of $F$ and $r$.
We prove that if $F$ is a Cayley graph of a torsion-free group of polynomial growth, and $r$ is sufficiently large depending on $F$, then the random graph $G_n = G_n(F,r)$ has largest component of order at most $n^{5/6}$ with high probability, and has at least $\exp(n^δ)$ automorphisms with high probability, where $δ>0$ depends upon $F$ alone. Both properties are in stark contrast to random $d$-regular graphs, which correspond to the case where $F$ is the infinite $d$-regular tree. We also show that, under the same hypotheses, the number of unlabelled, $n$-vertex graphs that are $r$-locally $F$ grows like a stretched exponential in $n$, again in contrast with $d$-regular graphs. In the case where $F$ is the standard Cayley graph of $\mathbb{Z}^d$, we obtain a much more precise enumeration result, and more precise results on the properties of the random graph $G_n(F,r)$. Our proofs use a mixture of results and techniques from geometry, group theory and combinatorics.

We investigate Mahonian and Eulerian probability distributions given by inversions and descents in general finite Coxeter groups. We provide uniform formulas for the means and variances in terms of Coxeter group data in both cases. We also provide uniform formulas for the double-Eulerian probability distribution of the sum of descents and inverse descents. We finally establish necessary and sufficient conditions for general sequences of Coxeter groups of increasing rank under which Mahonian and Eulerian probability distributions satisfy central and local limit theorems.

Let $G$ be a finite group. A finite unordered sequence $S = g_1 \boldsymbol{\cdot} \ldots \boldsymbol{\cdot} g_{\ell}$ of terms from $G$, where repetition is allowed, is a product-one sequence if its terms can be ordered such that their product equals $1_G$, the identity element of the group. As usual, we consider sequences as elements of the free abelian monoid $\mathcal F (G)$ with basis $G$, and we study the submonoid $\mathcal B (G) \subset \mathcal F (G)$ of all product-one sequences. This is a finitely generated C-monoid, which is a Krull monoid if and only if $G$ is abelian. In case of abelian groups, $\mathcal B (G)$ is a well-studied object. In the present paper we focus on non-abelian groups, and we study the class semigroup and the arithmetic of $\mathcal B (G)$.

We single out a class of difference families which is widely used in some constructions of Hadamard matrices and which we call Goethals--Seidel (GS) difference families. They consist of four subsets (base blocks) of a finite abelian group of order $v$, which can be used to construct Hadamard matrices via the well-known Goethals--Seidel array. We consider the special class of these families in cyclic groups, where each base block is either symmetric or skew. We omit the well-known case where all four blocks are symmetric. By extending previous computations by several authors, we complete the classification of GS-difference families of this type for odd $v<50$. In particular, we have constructed the first examples of so called good matrices, G-matrices and best matrices of order 43, and good matrices and G-matrices of order 45. We also point out some errors in one of the cited references.
