Lie-operads and operadic modules from poset cohomology
As observed by Joyal, the cohomology groups of the partition posets are naturally identified with the components of the operad encoding Lie algebras. This connection was explained in terms of operadic Koszul duality by Fresse, and later generalized by Vallette to the setting of decorated partitions. In this article, we set up and study a general formalism which produces a priori operadic structures (operads and operadic modules) on the cohomology of families of posets equipped with some natural recursive structure, that we call "operadic poset species". This framework goes beyond decorated partitions and operadic Koszul duality, and contains the metabelian Lie operad and Kontsevich's operad of trees as two simple instances. In forthcoming work, we will apply our results to the hypertree posets and their connections to post-Lie and pre-Lie algebras.

Two stability theorems on plethysms of Schur functions
The plethysm product of Schur functions corresponds to composing polynomial representations of infinite general linear groups. Finding the plethysm coefficients $\langle s_ν\circ s_μ, s_λ\rangle$ that express an arbitrary plethysm $s_ν\circ s_μ$ as a sum $\sum_λ\langle s_ν\circ s_μ, s_λ\rangle s_λ$ of Schur functions is a fundamental open problem in algebraic combinatorics. We prove two stability theorems for plethysm coefficients under the operations of adding and/or joining an arbitrary partition to either $μ$ or $ν$. In both theorems $μ$ may be replaced with an arbitrary skew partition. As special cases we obtain all stability results on the plethysm product of two Schur functions in the literature to date. The proofs are entirely combinatorial using plethystic semistandard tableaux with positive and negative entries.
On flag-transitive automorphism groups of $2$-designs with $λ$ prime
In this article, we study $2$-$(v,k,λ)$ designs $\mathcal{D}$ with $λ$ prime admitting flag-transitive and point-primitive almost simple automorphism groups $G$ with socle $T$ a finite exceptional simple group or a sporadic simple groups. If the socle of $G$ is a finite exceptional simple group, then we prove that $\mathcal{D}$ is isomorphic to one of two infinite families of $2$-designs with point-primitive automorphism groups, one is the Suzuki-Tits ovoid design with parameter set $(v,b,r,k,λ)=(q^{2}+1,q^{2}(q^{2}+1)/(q-1),q^{2},q,q-1)$ design, where $q-1$ is a Mersenne prime, and the other is newly constructed in this paper and has parameter set $(v,b,r,k,λ)=(q^{3}(q^{3}-1)/2,(q+1)(q^{6}-1),(q+1)(q^{3}+1),q^{3}/2,q+1)$, where $q+1$ a Fermat prime. If $T$ is a sporadic simple group, then we show that $\mathcal{D}$ is isomorphic to a unique design admitting a point-primitive automorphism group with parameter set $(v,b,r,k,λ)=(176,1100,50,2)$, $(12,22,11,6,5)$ or $(22,77,21,6,5)$.
Proper partial linear spaces affording imprimitive rank 3 automorphism groups
A partial linear space is a point--line incidence structure such that each line is incident with at least two points and each pair of points is incident with at most one line. It is said to be proper if there exists at least one non-collinear point pair, and at least one line incident with more than two points. The highest degree of symmetry for a proper partial linear space occurs when the automorphism group $G$ is transitive on ordered pairs of collinear points, and on ordered pairs of non-collinear points, that is to say, $G$ is a transitive rank $3$ group on the points. While the primitive rank 3 partial linear spaces are essentially classified, we present the first substantial classification of a family of imprimitive rank $3$ examples. We classify all imprimitive rank $3$ proper partial linear spaces such that the rank $3$ group is semiprimitive. In particular, this includes all partial linear spaces with a rank 3 imprimitive automorphism group that is innately transitive or quasiprimitive. We construct several infinite families of examples and ten individual examples. The examples in the infinite families admit a rank $3$ action of a linear or unitary group, and to our knowledge most of these examples have not appeared before in the literature.
Generalized chip firing and critical groups of arithmetical structures on trees
Chip firing provides a way to study the sandpile group (also known as the Jacobian) of a graph. We use a generalized version of chip firing to bound the number of invariant factors of the critical group of an arithmetical structure on a graph. We also show that, under suitable hypotheses, critical groups are additive under wedge sums of graphs with arithmetical structures. These results allow us to relate the number of invariant factors of critical groups associated to any given tree to decompositions of the tree into simpler trees. We use this to classify those trees for which every arithmetical structure has cyclic critical group. Finally, we show how to construct arithmetical structures on trees with prescribed critical groups. In particular, every finite abelian group is realized as the critical group of some arithmetical structure on a tree.

$R$-weighted graphs and commutators
In this article, we introduce balance equations over commutative rings $R$ and associate $R$-weighted graphs to them so that solving balance equations corresponds to a consistent labeling of vertices of the associated graph. Our primary focus is the case when $R$ is a commutative local ring whose residue field contains at least three elements. In this case, we provide explicit solutions of balance equations. As an application, letting $R$ to be the ring of $p$-adic integers, we examine some necessary and sufficient conditions for a $p$-group of nilpotency class $2$ to have its set of commutators coincide with its commutator subgroup. We also apply our results to study the surjectivity of the Lie bracket in Lie algebras, without any restriction on their dimension and the underlined field.

A note on the number of distinct elements and zero-sum subsequence lengths in cyclic groups
In this short note we investigate zero-sum sequences in finite abelian groups, examining the relationship between the sequence's support size, that is the number of distinct elements, and its properties concerning zero-sums. In particular, for sequences $S$ in a cyclic group, we establish a direct connection between $MZ(S)$, the length of the shortest nonempty subsequence summing to zero and the number of distinct values in $S$. Our results reveal that sequences with larger support must contain shorter non-empty zero-sum subsequences, in line with classical zero-sum results. Additionally, we present one application of our main result to a factorization of ideals problem in rings of integers of a number field.

The Lie algebra $\mathfrak{sl}_4(\mathbb C)$ and the hypercubes
We describe a relationship between the Lie algebra $\mathfrak{sl}_4(\mathbb C)$ and the hypercube graphs. Consider the $\mathbb C$-algebra $P$ of polynomials in four commuting variables. We turn $P$ into an $\mathfrak{sl}_4(\mathbb C)$-module on which each element of $\mathfrak{sl}_4(\mathbb C)$ acts as a derivation. Then $P$ becomes a direct sum of irreducible $\mathfrak{sl}_4(\mathbb C)$-modules $P = \sum_{N\in \mathbb N} P_N$, where $P_N$ is the $N$th homogeneous component of $P$. For $N\in \mathbb N$ we construct some additional $\mathfrak{sl}_4(\mathbb C)$-modules ${\rm Fix}(G)$ and $T$. For these modules the underlying vector space is described as follows. Let $X$ denote the vertex set of the hypercube $H(N,2)$, and let $V$ denote the $\mathbb C$-vector space with basis $X$. For the automorphism group $G$ of $H(N,2)$, the action of $G$ on $X$ turns $V$ into a $G$-module. The vector space $V^{\otimes 3} = V \otimes V \otimes V$ becomes a $G$-module such that $g(u \otimes v \otimes w)= g(u) \otimes g(v) \otimes g(w)$ for $g\in G$ and $u,v,w \in V$. The subspace ${\rm Fix}(G)$ of $V^{\otimes 3}$ consists of the vectors in $V^{\otimes 3}$ that are fixed by every element in $G$. Pick $\varkappa \in X$. The corresponding subconstituent algebra $T$ of $H(N,2)$ is the subalgebra of ${\rm End}(V)$ generated by the adjacency map $\sf A$ of $H(N,2)$ and the dual adjacency map ${\sf A}^*$ of $H(N,2)$ with respect to $\varkappa$. In our main results, we turn ${\rm Fix}(G)$ and $T$ into $\mathfrak{sl}_4(\mathbb C)$-modules, and display $\mathfrak{sl}_4(\mathbb C)$-module isomorphisms $P_N \to {\rm Fix}(G) \to T$. We describe the $\mathfrak{sl}_4(\mathbb C)$-modules $P_N$, ${\rm Fix}(G)$, $T$ from multiple points of view.

Combinatorial K3 surfaces and the Mori fan of the Dolgachev--Nikulin--Voisin family in degree 2
We introduce the notion of a combinatorial K3 surface. Those form a certain class of type III semistable K3 surfaces and are completely determined by combinatorial data called curve structures. Emphasis is put on degree $2$ combinatorial K3 surfaces, but the approach can be used to study higher degree as well. We describe elementary modifications both in terms of the curve structures as well as on the Picard groups. Together with a description of the nef cone in terms of curve structures, this provides an approach to explicitly computing the Mori fan of the Dolgachev--Nikulin--Voisin family in degree $2$.
Total trades, intersection matrices and Specht modules
Published • View PublicationBIB
Trades are important objects in combinatorial design theory that may be realized as certain elements of kernels of inclusion matrices. Total trades were introduced recently by Ghorbani, Kamali and Khosravshahi, who showed that over a field of characteristic zero the vector space of trades decomposes into a direct sum of spaces of total trades. In this paper, we show that the vector space spanned by the permutations of a total trade is an irreducible representation of the symmetric group. As a corollary, the previous decomposition theorem is recovered. Also, a basis is obtained for the module of total trades in the spirit of Specht polynomials. More generally, in the second part of the paper we consider intersection matrices and determine the irreducible decompositions of their images. This generalizes previously known results concerning ranks of special cases.

Magic squares on Abelian groups
Let $(Γ,+)$ be an Abelian group of order $n^2$ and MS$_Γ(n)$ be an $n\times n$ array whose entries are all elements of $Γ$. Then MS$_Γ(n)$ is a $Γ$-magic square if all row, column, main and backward main diagonal sums are equal to the same element $μ\inΓ$. We prove that for every Abelian group $Γ$ of order $n^2$, $n>2$, there exists a magic square MS$_Γ(n)$ where the square entries are elements of $Γ$.
Relativistic Toda lattice and equivariant $K$-homology of affine Grassmannian
We investigate the phenomenon known as ``quantum equals affine'' in the setting of $T$-equivariant quantum $K$-theory of the flag variety $G/B$, as established by Kato for any semisimple algebraic group $G$. In particular, we focus on the $K$-Peterson isomorphism between the $T$-equivariant quantum $K$-ring $QK_T(SL_n(\mathbb{C})/B)$ and the $T$-equivariant $K$-homology ring $K_*^T(\mathrm{Gr}_{SL_n})$ of the affine Grassmannian, after suitable localizations on both sides. Building on an earlier work by Ikeda, Iwao, and Maeno, we present an explicit algebraic realization of the $K$-Peterson map via a rational substitution that sends the generators of the quantum $K$-theory ring to explicit rational expressions in the fundamental generators of $K_*^T(\mathrm{Gr}_{SL_n})$, thereby matching the Schubert bases on both sides. Our approach builds on recent developments in the theory of $QK_T(SL_n(\mathbb{C})/B)$ by Maeno, Naito, and Sagaki, as well as the theory of $K$-theoretic double $k$-Schur functions introduced by Ikeda, Shimozono, and Yamaguchi. This concrete formulation provides new insight into the combinatorial structure of the $K$-Peterson isomorphism in the equivariant setting. As an application, we establish a factorization formula for the $K$-theoretic double $k$-Schur function associated with the maximal $k$-irreducible $k$-bounded partition.

On two conjectures about pattern avoidance of cyclic permutations
Let $π$ be a cyclic permutation that can be expressed in its one-line form as $π= π_1π_2 \cdot\cdot\cdot π_n$ and in its standard cycle form as $π= (c_1,c_2, ..., c_n)$ where $c_1=1$. Archer et al. introduced the notion of pattern avoidance of one-line and the standard cycle form for a cyclic permutation $π$, defined as both $π_1π_2 \cdot\cdot\cdot π_n$ and its standard cycle form $c_1c_2\cdot\cdot\cdot c_{n}$ avoiding a given pattern. Let $\mathcal{A}_n(σ_1,...,σ_k; τ)$ denote the set of cyclic permutations in the symmetric group $S_n$ that avoid each pattern of $\{σ_1,...,σ_k\}$ in their one-line forms and avoid $τ$ in their standard cycle forms. In this paper, we obtain some results about the cyclic permutations avoiding patterns in both one-line and cycle forms. In particular, we resolve two conjectures of Archer et al.

Regularity properties of Macbeath-Hurwitz and related maps and surfaces
The Macbeath-Hurwitz maps $M$ of type $\{3,7\}$, obtained from the Hurwitz groups $G={\rm PSL}_2(q)$ found by Macbeath, are fully regular by a result of Singerman, with automorphism group $G\times{\rm C}_2$ or ${\rm PGL}_2(q)$. Hall's criterion determines which of these two properties, called inner and outer regularity, $M$ has. Inner (but not outer) regular maps $M$ yield non-orientable regular maps $M/{\rm C}_2$ of the same type with automorphism group $G$. If $q=p^3$ for a prime $p\equiv\pm 2$ or $\pm 3$ mod~$(7)$ the unique map $M$ is inner regular if and only if $p\equiv 1$ mod~$(4)$. If $q=p$ for a prime $p\equiv\pm 1$ mod~$(7)$ there are three maps $M$; we use the density theorems of Frobenius and Chebotarev to show that in this case the sets of such primes $p$ for which $0, 1, 2$ or $3$ of them are inner regular have relative densities $1/8$, $3/8$, $3/8$ and $1/8$ respectively. Hall's criterion and its consequences are extended to the analogous Macbeath maps of type $\{3,n\}$ obtained from ${\rm PSL}_2(q)$ for all $n\ge 7$; theoretical predictions on their number and properties are supported by evidence from the map databases of Conder and Poto\v cnik.

Characteristic polynomial of $\overline{\mathcal{M}}_{0,n}$ and log-concavity
Motivated by Stanley's generalization of the chromatic polynomial of a graph to the chromatic symmetric function, we introduce the characteristic polynomial of a representation of the symmetric group, or more generally, of a symmetric function. When the representation arises from geometry, the coefficients of its characteristic polynomial tend to form a log-concave sequence. To illustrate, we investigate explicit examples, including the $n$-fold products of the projective spaces, the GIT moduli spaces of points on $\mathbb{P}^1$ and Hessenberg varieties. Our main focus lies on the cohomology of the moduli space of pointed rational curves, for which we prove asymptotic formulas of its characteristic polynomial and establish asymptotic log-concavity.
Inversions in Colored Permutations, Derangements, and Involutions
Arslan, Altoum, and Zaarour introduced an inversion statistic for generalized symmetric groups. In this work, we study the distribution of this statistic over colored permutations, including derangements and involutions. By establishing a bijective correspondence between colored permutations and colored Lehmer codes, we develop a unified framework for enumerating colored Mahonian numbers and analyzing their combinatorial properties. We derive explicit formulas, recurrence relations, and generating functions for the number of inversions in these families, extending classical results to the colored setting. We conclude with explicit expressions for inversions in colored derangements and involutions.

Quantum Littlewood correspondences
In the 1940s Littlewood formulated three fundamental correspondences for the immanants and Schur symmetric functions on the general linear group, which establish deep connections between representation theory of the symmetric group and the general linear group parallel to the Schur-Weyl duality. In this paper, we introduce the notion of quantum immanants in the quantum coordinate algebra using primitive idempotents of the Hecke algebra. By employing $R$-matrix techniques, we establish the quantum analog of Littlewood correspondences between quantum immanants and Schur functions for the quantum coordinate algebra. In the setting of the Schur-Weyl-Jimbo duality, we construct an exact correspondence between the Gelfand-Tsetlin bases of the irreducible representations of the quantum enveloping algebra $U_q(\mathfrak{gl}(n))$ and Young's orthonormal basis of an irreducible representation of the Hecke algebra $\mathcal H_m$. This isomorphism leads to our trace formula for the quantum immanants, which settled the generalization problem of $q$-analog of Kostant's formular for $λ$-immanants. As applications, we also derive general $q$-Littlewood-Merris-Watkins identities and $q$-Goulden-Jackson identities as special cases of the quantum Littlewood correspondence III.

A census of face-transitive surfaces
A face-transitive surface is a triangulated 2-dimensional manifold whose automorphism group acts transitively on its set of triangles. In this paper, we investigate this class of highly symmetric surface triangulations. We identify seven types of such face-transitive surfaces, splitting up further into a total of thirteen sub-types, distinguished by how their automorphism groups act on them. We use these theoretical results to compute a census of face-transitive surfaces with up to 1280 faces by constructing suitable cycle double covers of cubic node-transitive graphs.

Enumeration of idempotent-sum subsequences in finite cyclic semigroups and smooth sequences
The enumeration of zero-sum subsequences of a given sequence over finite cyclic groups is one classical topic, which starts from one question of P. Erdős. In this paper, we consider this problem in a more general setting -- finite cyclic semigroups. Let $\mathcal{S}$ be a finite cyclic semigroup. By $\textbf{e}$ we denote the unique idempotent of the semigroup $\mathcal{S}$. Let $T$ be a sequence over the semigroup $\mathcal{S}$, and let $N(T; \textbf{e})$ be the number of distinct subsequences of $T$ with sum being the idempotent $\textbf{e}$. We obtain the lower bound for $N(T; \textbf{e})$ in terms of the length of $T$, and moreover, prove that $T$ contains subsequences with some smooth-structure in case that $N(T; \textbf{e})$ is not large. Our result generalizes the theorem obtained by W. Gao [Discrete Math., 1994] on the enumeration of zero-sum subsequences over finite cyclic groups to the setting of semigroups.
