Let $R:= K[x_1,\ldots,x_{n}]$ be a polynomial ring over an infinite field $K$, and let $I \subset R$ be a homogeneous ideal with respect to a weight vector $ω= (ω_1,\ldots,ω_n) \in (\mathbb{Z}^+)^n$ such that $\dim(R/I) = d$. In this paper we study the minimal graded free resolution of $R/I$ as $A$-module, that we call the Noether resolution of $R/I$, whenever $A :=K[x_{n-d+1},\ldots,x_n]$ is a Noether normalization of $R/I$. When $d=2$ and $I$ is saturated, we give an algorithm for obtaining this resolution that involves the computation of a minimal Gröbner basis of $I$ with respect to the weighted degree reverse lexicographic order. In the particular case when $R/I$ is a $2$-dimensional semigroup ring, we also describe the multigraded version of this resolution in terms of the underlying semigroup. Whenever we have the Noether resolution of $R/I$ or its multigraded version, we obtain formulas for the corresponding Hilbert series of $R/I$, and when $I$ is homogeneous, we obtain a formula for the Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity of $R/I$. Moreover, in the more general setting that $R/I$ is a simplicial semigroup ring of any dimension, we provide its Macaulayfication.
As an application of the results for $2$-dimensional semigroup rings, we provide a new upper bound for the Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity of the coordinate ring of a projective monomial curve. Finally, we describe the multigraded Noether resolution and the Macaulayfication of either the coordinate ring of a projective monomial curve $\mathcal{C} \subseteq \mathbb{P}_K^{n}$ associated to an arithmetic sequence or the coordinate ring of any canonical projection $π_{r}(\mathcal{C})$ of $\mathcal{C}$ to $\mathbb{P}_K^{n-1}$.

Given the complement of a hyperplane arrangement, let $Γ$ be the closure of the graph of the map inverting each of its defining linear forms. The characteristic polynomial manifests itself in the Hilbert series of $Γ$ in two different-seeming ways, one due to Orlik and Terao and the other to Huh and Katz. We define an extension of the no broken circuit complex of a matroid and use it to give a direct Gröbner basis argument that the polynomials extracted from the Hilbert series in these two ways agree.

We prove some cases of a conjecture of Lewis, Reiner and Stanton regarding Hilbert series corresponding to the action of $Gl_n(\mathbb{F}_q)$ on a polynomial ring modulo Frobenius powers. We also give a few conjectures about the invariant ring for certain cases that we don't prove completely.

We introduce the notion of a cominuscule point in a Schubert variety in a generalized flag variety for a semisimple group. We derive formulas expressing the Hilbert series and multiplicity of a Schubert variety at a cominuscule point in terms of the restrictions of classes in torus-equivariant K-theory and cohomology to that point, generalizing previously known formulas for flag varieties of cominuscule type. Thus, we can calculate Hilbert series and multiplicities in cases where these were previously unknown. The formulas for Schubert varieties are special cases of more general formulas valid at generalized cominuscule points of schemes with torus actions.

We establish a connection between root multiplicities for Borcherds-Kac-Moody algebras and graph coloring. We show that the generalized chromatic polynomial of the graph associated to a given Borcherds algebra can be used to give a closed formula for certain root multiplicities. Using this connection we give a second interpretation, namely that the root multiplicity of a given root coincides with the number of acyclic orientations with a unique sink of a certain graph (depending on the root). Finally, using the combinatorics of Lyndon words we construct a basis for the root spaces corresponding to these roots and determine the Hilbert series in the case when all simple roots are imaginary. As an application we give a Lie theoretic proof of Stanley's reciprocity theorem of chromatic polynomials.

A result of Haglund implies that the $(q,t)$-bigraded Hilbert series of the space of diagonal harmonics is a $(q,t)$-Ehrhart function of the flow polytope of a complete graph with netflow vector $(-n, 1, \dots, 1)$. We study the $(q,t)$-Ehrhart functions of flow polytopes of threshold graphs with arbitrary netflow vectors. Our results generalize previously known specializations of the mentioned bigraded Hilbert series at $t=1$, $0$, and $q^{-1}$. As a corollary to our results, we obtain a proof of a conjecture of Armstrong, Garsia, Haglund, Rhoades and Sagan about the $(q, q^{-1})$-Ehrhart function of the flow polytope of a complete graph with an arbitrary netflow vector.

The symmetric group $\mathfrak{S}_n$ acts on the polynomial ring $\mathbb{Q}[\mathbf{x}_n] = \mathbb{Q}[x_1, \dots, x_n]$ by variable permutation. The invariant ideal $I_n$ is the ideal generated by all $\mathfrak{S}_n$-invariant polynomials with vanishing constant term. The quotient $R_n = \frac{\mathbb{Q}[\mathbf{x}_n]}{I_n}$ is called the coinvariant algebra. The coinvariant algebra $R_n$ has received a great deal of study in algebraic and geometric combinatorics. We introduce a generalization $I_{n,k} \subseteq \mathbb{Q}[\mathbf{x}_n]$ of the ideal $I_n$ indexed by two positive integers $k \leq n$. The corresponding quotient $R_{n,k} := \frac{\mathbb{Q}[\mathbf{x}_n]}{I_{n,k}}$ carries a graded action of $\mathfrak{S}_n$ and specializes to $R_n$ when $k = n$. We generalize many of the nice properties of $R_n$ to $R_{n,k}$. In particular, we describe the Hilbert series of $R_{n,k}$, give extensions of the Artin and Garsia-Stanton monomial bases of $R_n$ to $R_{n,k}$, determine the reduced Gröbner basis for $I_{n,k}$ with respect to the lexicographic monomial order, and describe the graded Frobenius series of $R_{n,k}$. Just as the combinatorics of $R_n$ are controlled by permutations in $\mathfrak{S}_n$, we will show that the combinatorics of $R_{n,k}$ are controlled by ordered set partitions of $\{1, 2, \dots, n\}$ with $k$ blocks. The {\em Delta Conjecture} of Haglund, Remmel, and Wilson is a generalization of the Shuffle Conjecture in the theory of diagonal coinvariants. We will show that the graded Frobenius series of $R_{n,k}$ is (up to a minor twist) the $t = 0$ specialization of the combinatorial side of the Delta Conjecture. It remains an open problem to give a bigraded $\mathfrak{S}_n$-module $V_{n,k}$ whose Frobenius image is even conjecturally equal to any of the expressions in the Delta Conjecture; our module $R_{n,k}$ solves this problem in the specialization $t = 0$.

Let $Φ$ be an irreducible crystallographic root system with Weyl group $W$, coroot lattice $\check{Q}$ and Coxeter number $h$. Recently the second named author defined a uniform $W$-isomorphism $ζ$ between the finite torus $\check{Q}/(mh+1)\check{Q}$ and the set of non-nesting parking fuctions $\operatorname{Park}^{(m)}(Φ)$. If $Φ$ is of type $A_{n-1}$ and $m=1$ this map is equivalent to a map defined on labelled Dyck paths that arises in the study of the Hilbert series of the space of diagonal harmonics.
In this paper we investigate the case $m=1$ for the other infinite families of root systems ($B_n$, $C_n$ and $D_n$). In each type we define models for the finite torus and for the set of non-nesting parking functions in terms of labelled lattice paths. The map $ζ$ can then be viewed as a map between these combinatorial objects. Our work entails new bijections between (square) lattice paths and ballot paths.

In the book 'Quadratic algebras' by Polishchuk and Positselski [23] algebras with a small number of generators (n=2,3) are considered. For some number r of relations possible Hilbert series are listed, and those appearing as series of Koszul algebras are specified. The first case, where it was not possible to do, namely the case of three generators n=3 and six relations r=6 is formulated as an open problem. We give here a complete answer to this question, namely for quadratic algebras with dim A_1=dim A_2=3, we list all possible Hilbert series, and find out which of them can come from Koszul algebras, and which can not.
As a consequence of this classification, we found an algebra, which serves as a counterexample to another problem from the same book [23] (Chapter 7, Sec. 1, Conjecture 2), saying that Koszul algebra of finite global homological dimension d has dim A_1 >= d. Namely, the 3-generated algebra A given by relations xx+yx=xz=zy=0 is Koszul and its Koszul dual algebra A^! has Hilbert series of degree 4: H_{A^!}(t)= 1+3t+3t^2+2t^3+t^4, hence A has global homological dimension 4.
Syzygies over the Polytope Semiring

Tropical geometry and its applications indicate a "theory of syzygies" over polytope semirings. Taking cue from this indication, we study a notion of syzygies over the polytope semiring. We begin our exploration with the concept of Newton basis, an analogue of Gröbner basis that captures the image of an ideal under the Newton polytope map. The image ${\rm New}(I)$ of a graded ideal $I$ under the Newton polytope is a graded sub-semimodule of the polytope semiring. Analogous to the Hilbert series, we define the notion of Newton-Hilbert series that encodes the rank of each graded piece of ${\rm New}(I)$. We prove the rationality of the Newton-Hilbert series for sub-semimodules that satisfy a property analogous to Cohen-Macaulayness. We define notions of regular sequence of polytopes and syzygies of polytopes. We show an analogue of the Koszul property characterizing the syzygies of a regular sequence of polytopes.
The subdivision of large simplicial cones in Normaliz

Normaliz is an open-source software for the computation of lattice points in rational polyhedra, or, in a different language, the solutions of linear diophantine systems. The two main computational goals are (i) finding a system of generators of the set of lattice points and (ii) counting elements degree-wise in a generating function, the Hilbert Series. In the homogeneous case, in which the polyhedron is a cone, the set of generators is the Hilbert basis of the intersection of the cone and the lattice, an affine monoid.
We will present some improvements to the Normaliz algorithm by subdividing simplicial cones with huge volumes. In the first approach the subdivision points are found by integer programming techniques. For this purpose we interface to the integer programming solver SCIP to our software. In the second approach we try to find good subdivision points in an approximating overcone that is faster to compute.
The Laurent coefficients of the Hilbert series of a Gorenstein algebra

By a theorem of R. Stanley, a graded Cohen-Macaulay domain $A$ is Gorenstein if and only if its Hilbert series satisfies the functional equation \[
\operatorname{Hilb}_A(t^{-1})=(-1)^d t^{-a}\operatorname{Hilb}_A(t), \] where $d$ is the Krull dimension and $a$ is the a-invariant of $A$. We reformulate this functional equation in terms of an infinite system of linear constraints on the Laurent coefficients of $\operatorname{Hilb}_A(t)$ at $t=1$. The main idea consists of examining the graded algebra $\mathcal F=\bigoplus_{r\in \mathbb{Z}}\mathcal F_r$ of formal power series in the variable $x$ that fulfill the condition $\varphi(x/(x-1))=(1-x)^r\varphi(x)$. As a byproduct, we derive quadratic and cubic relations for the Bernoulli numbers. The cubic relations have a natural interpretation in terms of coefficients of the Euler polynomials. For the special case of degree $r=-(a+d)=0$, these results have been investigated previously by the authors and involved merely even Euler polynomials. A link to the work of H. W. Gould and L. Carlitz on power sums of symmetric number triangles is established.

Let $S$ be a multigraded polynomial ring such that the degree of each variable is a unit vector; so $S$ is the homogeneous coordinate ring of a product of projective spaces. In this setting, we characterize the formal Laurent series which arise as Hilbert series of finitely generated $S$-modules.
Also we provide necessary conditions for a formal Laurent series to be the Hilbert series of a finitely generated module with a given depth. In the bigraded case (corresponding to the product of two projective spaces), we completely classify the Hilbert series of finitely generated modules of positive depth.
Pluriassociative algebras II: The polydendriform operad and related operads

Dendriform algebras form a category of algebras recently introduced by Loday. A dendriform algebra is a vector space endowed with two nonassociative binary operations satisfying some relations. Any dendriform algebra is an algebra over the dendriform operad, the Koszul dual of the diassociative operad. We introduce here, by adopting the point of view and the tools offered by the theory of operads, a generalization on a nonnegative integer parameter $γ$ of dendriform algebras, called $γ$-polydendriform algebras, so that $1$-polydendriform algebras are dendriform algebras. For that, we consider the operads obtained as the Koszul duals of the $γ$-pluriassociative operads introduced by the author in a previous work. In the same manner as dendriform algebras are suitable devices to split associative operations into two parts, $γ$-polydendriform algebras seem adapted structures to split associative operations into $2γ$ operation so that some partial sums of these operations are associative. We provide a complete study of the $γ$-polydendriform operads, the underlying operads of the category of $γ$-polydendriform algebras. We exhibit several presentations by generators and relations, compute their Hilbert series, and construct free objects in the corresponding categories. We also provide consistent generalizations on a nonnegative integer parameter of the duplicial, triassociative and tridendriform operads, and of some operads of the operadic butterfly.

Diassociative algebras form a categoy of algebras recently introduced by Loday. A diassociative algebra is a vector space endowed with two associative binary operations satisfying some very natural relations. Any diassociative algebra is an algebra over the diassociative operad, and, among its most notable properties, this operad is the Koszul dual of the dendriform operad. We introduce here, by adopting the point of view and the tools offered by the theory of operads, a generalization on a nonnegative integer parameter $γ$ of diassociative algebras, called $γ$-pluriassociative algebras, so that $1$-pluriassociative algebras are diassociative algebras. Pluriassociative algebras are vector spaces endowed with $2γ$ associative binary operations satisfying some relations. We provide a complete study of the $γ$-pluriassociative operads, the underlying operads of the category of $γ$-pluriassociative algebras. We exhibit a realization of these operads, establish several presentations by generators and relations, compute their Hilbert series, show that they are Koszul, and construct the free objects in the corresponding categories. We also study several notions of units in $γ$-pluriassociative algebras and propose a general way to construct such algebras. This paper ends with the introduction of an analogous generalization of the triassociative operad of Loday and Ronco.

This paper is a continuation of the paper "Numerical Semigroups: Apéry Sets and Hilbert Series". We consider the general numerical AA-semigroup, i.e., semigroups consisting of all non-negative integer linear combinations of relatively prime positive integers of the form $a,a+d,a+2d,\dots,a+kd,c$. We first prove that, in contrast to arbitrary numerical semigroups, there exists an upper bound for the type of AA-semigroups that only depends on the number of generators of the semigroup. We then present two characterizations of pseudo-symmetric AA-semigroups. The first one leads to a polynomial time algorithm to decide whether an AA-semigroup is pseudo-symmetric. The second one gives a method to construct pseudo-symmetric AA-semigroups and provides explicit families of pseudo-symmetric semigroups with arbitrarily large number of generators.

The set of (ordered) score sheets of a round-robin football tournament played between $n$ teams together with the pointwise addition has the structure of an affine monoid. In this paper we study (using both theoretical and computational methods) the most important invariants of this monoid, namely the Hilbert basis, the multiplicity, the Hilbert series and the Hilbert function.

We study the ring R(n,m) of invariants for the left-right action of SL_n \times SL_n on m-tuples of n by n complex matrices. We show that R(3,m) is generated by invariants of degree less equal 309 for all m. Then, we use a combinatorial description of the invariants to show that R(n,m) cannot be generated by invariants of degree < n^2 for large m. We also compute the Hilbert series for several cases.

We apply the methods of algebraic reliability to the study of percolation on trees. To a complete $k$-ary tree $T_{k,n}$ of depth $n$ we assign a monomial ideal $I_{k,n}$ on $\sum_{i=1}^n k^i$ variables and $k^n$ minimal monomial generators. We give explicit recursive formulae for the Betti numbers of $I_{k,n}$ and their Hilbert series, which allow us to study explicitly percolation on $T_{k,n}$. We study bounds on this percolation and study its asymptotical behavior with the mentioned commutative algebra techniques.

We prove a conjecture which expresses the bigraded Poisson-de Rham homology of the nilpotent cone of a semisimple Lie algebra in terms of the generalized (one-variable) Kostka polynomials, via a formula suggested by Lusztig. This allows us to construct a canonical family of filtrations on the flag variety cohomology, and hence on irreducible representations of the Weyl group, whose Hilbert series are given by the generalized Kostka polynomials. We deduce consequences for the cohomology of all Springer fibers. In particular, this computes the grading on the zeroth Poisson homology of all classical finite W-algebras, as well as the filtration on the zeroth Hochschild homology of all quantum finite W-algebras, and we generalize to all homology degrees. As a consequence, we deduce a conjecture of Proudfoot on symplectic duality, relating in type A the Poisson homology of Slodowy slices to the intersection cohomology of nilpotent orbit closures. In the last section, we give an analogue of our main theorem in the setting of mirabolic D-modules.
