Alternating sign matrices and totally symmetric self-complementary plane partitions are equinumerous sets of objects for which no explicit bijection is known. In this paper, we identify a subset of totally symmetric self-complementary plane partitions corresponding to permutations by giving a statistic-preserving bijection to permutation matrices, which are a subset of alternating sign matrices. We use this bijection to define a new partial order on permutations, and prove this new poset contains both the Tamari lattice and the Catalan distributive lattice as subposets. We also study a new partial order on totally symmetric self-complementary plane partitions arising from this perspective and show that this is a distributive lattice related to Bruhat order when restricted to permutations.
Random Partitions and the Quantum Benjamin-Ono Hierarchy
We derive exact and asymptotic results for random partitions from general results in the semi-classical analysis of coherent states applied to the classical periodic Benjamin-Ono equation at critical regularity $s= -1/2$. We find classical $dF_{\star |v} (c| \overline{\varepsilon})$ and quantum $d\hat{F}^{η_{NS}}( c | \hbar, \overline{\varepsilon})|_Ψ$ conserved densities for this system with dispersion coefficient $\overline{\varepsilon}$ extending Nazarov-Sklyanin (2013). For quantum stationary states, this conserved density is $dF_λ(c | \varepsilon_2, \varepsilon_1)$ the Rayleigh measure of the profile of a partition $λ$ of anisotropy $(\varepsilon_2, \varepsilon_1) \in \mathbb{C}^2$ for $\hbar = - \varepsilon_1 \varepsilon_2$, $\overline{\varepsilon}= \varepsilon_1 + \varepsilon_2$ invariant under $\varepsilon_2 \longleftrightarrow \varepsilon_1$. As Jack polynomials are the quantum stationary states and Stanley's Cauchy kernel (1989) is the reproducing kernel, the random values of the quantum periodic Benjamin-Ono hierarchy in a coherent state $Υ_v ( \cdot | \hbar)$ are a "Jack measure" on partitions, a dispersive generalization of Okounkov's Schur measures (1999). By our general results for coherent states, we have concentration on a limit shape as $\hbar \rightarrow 0$, the classical conserved density at $v$, and quantum fluctuations are an explicit Gaussian field. Our results follow from an enumerative asymptotic expansion in $\hbar$ and $\overline{\varepsilon}$ of joint cumulants over new combinatorial objects we call "ribbon paths". Our results reflect the fact that at fixed $\hbar>0$ the weight defining Fock space is already a fractional Brownian motion of variance $\hbar$ and Hurst index $(-s) - \tfrac{1}{2} \dim \mathbb{T} = + \tfrac{1}{2} - \tfrac{1}{2} = 0.$
On the safe set of Cartesian product of two complete graphs
For a connected graph $G$, a vertex subset $S$ of $V(G)$ is a safe set if for every component $C$ of the subgraph of $G$ induced by $S$, $|C| \ge |D|$ holds for every component $D$ of $G-S$ such that there exists an edge between $C$ and $D$, and, in particular, if the subgraph induced by $S$ is connected, then $S$ is called a connected safe set. For a connected graph $G$, the safe number and the connected safe number of $G$ are the minimum among sizes of the safe sets and the minimum among sizes of the connected safe sets, respectively, of $G$. Fujita et al. introduced these notions in connection with a variation of the facility location problem.
In this paper, we study the safe number and the connected safe number of Cartesian product of two complete graphs. Figuring out a way to reduce the number of components to two without changing the size of safe set makes it sufficient to consider only partitions of an integer into two parts without which it would be much more complicated to take care of all the partitions. In this way, we could show that the safe number and the connected safe number of Cartesian product of two complete graphs are equal and present a polynomial-time algorithm to compute them. Especially, in the case where one of complete components has order at most four, we precisely formulate those numbers.

We study Hall-Littlewood polynomials using an integrable lattice model of $t$-deformed bosons. Working with row-to-row transfer matrices, we review the construction of Hall-Littlewood polynomials (of the $A_n$ root system) within the framework of this model. Introducing appropriate double-row transfer matrices, we extend this formalism to Hall-Littlewood polynomials based on the $BC_n$ root system, and obtain a new combinatorial formula for them. We then apply our methods to prove a series of refined Cauchy and Littlewood identities involving Hall-Littlewood polynomials. The last two of these identities are new, and relate infinite sums over hyperoctahedrally symmetric Hall-Littlewood polynomials with partition functions of the six-vertex model on finite domains.
Plane partitions with bounded size of parts and biorthogonal polynomials
Nice formulae for plane partitions with bounded size of parts (or boxed plane partitions), which generalize the norm-trace generating function by Stanley and the trace generating function by Gansner, are exhibited. The derivation of the nice formulae is based on lattice path combinatorics of biorthogonal polynomials, especially of the little $q$-Laguerre polynomials and a generalization of the little $q$-Laguerre polynomials. A summation formula which generalizes the $q$-Chu-Vandermonde identity is also shown and utilized to prove the orthogonality of the generalized little $q$-Laguerre polynomials.
Even $(\bar{s}, \bar{t})$-core partitions and self-associate characters of $\tilde{S}_n$
A partition is a $\bar{s}$-core if it is the result of removing all of the $s$-bars from a partition. We extend a method of Olsson and Bessenrodt to determine the number of even partitions that are simultaneously $\bar{s}$-core and $\bar{t}$-core. When $p$ and $q$ are distinct primes, this also determines the number of self-associate characters of $\tilde{S}_n$ that are simultaneosly defect 0 for $p$ and $q$.
Lumpings of Algebraic Markov Chains arise from Subquotients

A function on the state space of a Markov chain is a "lumping" if observing only the function values gives a Markov chain. We give very general conditions for lumpings of a large class of algebraically-defined Markov chains, which include random walks on groups and other common constructions. We specialise these criteria to the case of descent operator chains from combinatorial Hopf algebras, and, as an example, construct a "top-to-random-with-standardisation" chain on permutations that lumps to a popular restriction-then-induction chain on partitions, using the fact that the algebra of symmetric functions is a subquotient of the Malvenuto-Reutenauer algebra.
Sampling Goldbach Numbers at Random
Let $Σ_{2n}$ be the set of all partitions of the even integers from the interval $(4,2n], n>2,$ into two odd prime parts. We select a partition from the set $Σ_{2n}$ uniformly at random. Let $2G_n$ be the number partitioned by this selection. $2G_n$ is sometimes called a Goldbach number. In [6] we showed that $G_n/n$ converges weakly to the maximum $T$ of two random variables which are independent copies of a uniformly distributed random variable in the interval $(0,1)$. In this note we show that the mean and the variance of $G_n/n$ tend to the mean $μ_T=2/3$ and variance $σ_T^2=1/18$ of $T$, respectively. Our method of proof is based on generating functions and on a Tauberian theorem due to Hardy-Littlewood-Karamata.
Difference operators for partitions and some applications

Motivated by the Nekrasov-Okounkov formula on hook lengths, the first author conjectured that the Plancherel average of the $2k$-th power sum of hook lengths of partitions with size $n$ is always a polynomial of $n$ for any $k\in \mathbb{N}$. This conjecture was generalized and proved by Stanley (Ramanujan J., 23(1--3): 91--105, 2010). In this paper, inspired by the work of Stanley and Olshanski on the differential poset of Young lattice, we study the properties of two kinds of difference operators $D$ and $D^-$ defined on functions of partitions. Even though the calculations for higher orders of $D$ are extremely complex, we prove that several well-known families of functions of partitions are annihilated by a power of the difference operator $D$. As an application, our results lead to several generalizations of classic results on partitions, including the marked hook formula, Stanley Theorem, Okada-Panova hook length formula, and Fujii-Kanno-Moriyama-Okada content formula. We insist that the Okada constants $K_r$ arise directly from the computation for a single partition $λ$, without the summation ranging over all partitions of size~$n$.
Polyhedral geometry, supercranks, and combinatorial witnesses of congruences for partitions into three parts

In this paper, we use a branch of polyhedral geometry, Ehrhart theory, to expand our combinatorial understanding of congruences for partition functions. Ehrhart theory allows us to give a new decomposition of partitions, which in turn allows us to define statistics called {\it supercranks} that combinatorially witness every instance of divisibility of $p(n,3)$ by any prime $m \equiv -1 \pmod 6$, where $p(n,3)$ is the number of partitions of $n$ into three parts. A rearrangement of lattice points allows us to demonstrate with explicit bijections how to divide these sets of partitions into $m$ equinumerous classes. The behavior for primes $m' \equiv 1 \pmod 6$ is also discussed.

In 2008 Amanatidis, Green and Mihail introduced the Joint Degree Matrix (JDM) model to capture the fundamental difference in assortativity of networks in nature studied by the physical and life sciences and social networks studied in the social sciences. In 2014 Czabarka proposed a direct generalization of the JDM model, the Partition Adjacency Matrix (PAM) model. In the PAM model the vertices have specified degrees, and the vertex set itself is partitioned into classes. For each pair of vertex classes the number of edges between the classes in a graph realization is prescribed. In this paper we apply the new {\em skeleton graph} model to describe the same information as the PAM model. Our model is more convenient for handling problems with low number of partition classes or with special topological restrictions among the classes. We investigate two particular cases in detail: (i) when there are only two vertex classes and (ii) when the skeleton graph contains at most one cycle.
Adjacency relationships forced by a degree sequence

There are typically several nonisomorphic graphs having a given degree sequence, and for any two degree sequence terms it is often possible to find a realization in which the corresponding vertices are adjacent and one in which they are not. We provide necessary and sufficient conditions for two vertices to be adjacent (or nonadjacent) in every realization of the degree sequence. These conditions generalize degree sequence and structural characterizations of the threshold graphs, in which every adjacency relationship is forcibly determined by the degree sequence. We further show that degree sequences for which adjacency relationships are forced form an upward-closed set in the dominance order on graphic partitions of an even integer.
Edge-partitioning a graph into paths: beyond the Barát-Thomassen conjecture

The Barát-Thomassen conjecture asserts that there is a function $f$ such that for every fixed tree $T$ with $t$ edges, every graph which is $f(t)$-edge-connected with its number of edges divisible by $t$ has a partition of its edges into copies of $T$. This has been proved in the case of paths of length $2^k$ by Thomassen, and recently shown to be true for all paths by Botler, Mota, Oshiro and Wakabayashi. Our goal in this paper is to propose an alternative proof of the path case with a weaker hypothesis: Namely, we prove that there is a function $f$ such that every $24$-edge-connected graph with minimum degree $f(t)$ has an edge-partition into paths of length $t$ whenever $t$ divides the number of edges. We also show that $24$ can be dropped to $4$ when the graph is eulerian.

We provide a concise exposition with original proofs of combinatorial formulas for the 2D Ising model partition function, multi-point fermionic observables, spin and energy density correlations, for general graphs and interaction constants, using the language of Kac-Ward matrices. We also give a brief account of the relations between various alternative formalisms which have been used in the combinatorial study of the planar Ising model: dimers and Grassmann variables, spin and disorder operators, and, more recently, s-holomorphic observables. In addition, we point out that these formulas can be extended to the double-Ising model, defined as a pointwise product of two Ising spin configurations on the same discrete domain, coupled along the boundary.
Wilf's "Snake Oil" Method Proves an Identity in The Motzkin Triangle
We give yet-another illustration of using Herb Wilf's Snake Oil Method, by proving a certain identity between the entries of the so-called Motzkin Triangle, that arose in a recent study of enumeration of certain classes of integer partitions. We also briefly illustrate how this method can be applied to general `triangles'.
Quantum integrable combinatorics of Schur polynomials
We examine and present new combinatorics for the Schur polynomials from the viewpoint of quantum integrability. We introduce and analyze an integrable six-vertex model which can be viewed as a certain degeneration model from a t-deformed boson model. By a detailed analysis of the wavefunction from the quantum inverse scattering method, we present a novel combinatorial formula which expresses the Schur polynomials by using an additional parameter, which is in the same sense but different from the Tokuyama formula. We also give an algebraic analytic proof for the Cauchy identity and make applications of the domain wall boundary partition functions to the enumeration of alternating sign matrices.

For a vertex $v$ of a connected graph $G(V,E)$ and a subset $S$ of $V$, the distance between $v$ and $S$ is defined by $d(v,S)=min\{d(v,x):x \in S \}.$ For an ordered \emph{k}-partition $Π=\{S_1,S_2\ldots S_k\}$ of $V$, the representation of $v$ with respect to $Π$ is the $k$-vector $r(v|Π) =(d(v,S_1),d(v,S_2)\ldots d(v,S_k)).$ The $k$-partition $Π$ is a resolving partition if the $k$-vectors $r(v|Π)$, $v \in V$ are distinct. The minimum $k$ for which there is a resolving $k$-partition of $V$ is the \emph{partition dimension} of $G$. Salman et al.{\rm\cite{SaJaCh12}} claimed that \emph{partition dimension} of a class of circulant graphs $C(n,\pm \{1,2\})$, for all even $n\geq6$ is 4 and it is 3 when $n$ is odd. In this paper we obtain the partition dimension of circulant graphs $G=C(n, \pm \{1,2 \ldots j\}), 1\leq j < \lfloor \frac{n}{2}\rfloor$, $n \geq(j+k)(j+1)$, $n \equiv \ k \ mod \ (2j)$ and $k$ and $2j$ are co-primes as, \begin{eqnarray*} pd(G) &=& j+1 \ \ \ \ \ \ \ when \ j \ \ is \ even \ and\ all \ k=2m-1, 1 \leq m \leq j \\ pd(G)&=& j+1\ \ \ \ \ \ \ when \ j \ \ is \ odd \ and\ all \ k=2m, 1 \leq m \leq j. \end{eqnarray*}

Let $e$ be a positive integer, $p$ be an odd prime, $q=p^{e}$, and $\Bbb F_q$ be the finite field of $q$ elements. Let $f,g \in \Bbb F_q [X,Y]$. The graph $G=G_q(f,g)$ is a bipartite graph with vertex partitions $P=\Bbb F_q^3$ and $L=\Bbb F_q^3$, and edges defined as follows: a vertex $(p)=(p_1,p_2,p_3)\in P$ is adjacent to a vertex $[l] = [l_1,l_2,l_3]\in L$ if and only if $p_2 + l_2 = f(p_1,l_1)$ and $p_3 + l_3 = g(p_1,l_1)$. Motivated by some questions in finite geometry and extremal graph theory, Dmytrenko, Lazebnik and Williford conjectured in 2007 that if $f$ and $g$ are both monomials and $G$ has no cycle of length less than eight, then $G$ is isomorphic to the graph $G_q(XY,XY^2)$. They proved several instances of the conjecture by reducing it to the property of polynomials $A_k= X^k[(X+1)^k - X^k]$ and $B_k= [(X+1)^{2k} - 1] X^{q-1-k} - 2X^{q-1}$ being permutation polynomials of $\Bbb F_q$.
In this paper we prove the conjecture by obtaining new results on the polynomials $A_k$ and $B_k$, which are also of interest on their own.

Let $B_t(n)$ be the number of set partitions of a set of size~$t$ into at most $n$ parts and let $B'_t(n)$ be the number of set partitions of $\{1,\ldots, t\}$ into at most $n$ parts such that no part contains both $1$ and~$t$ or both $i$ and $i+1$ for any $i \in \{1,\ldots,t-1\}$. We give two new combinatorial interpretations of the numbers $B_t(n)$ and $B'_t(n)$ using sequences of random-to-top shuffles, %that leave a deck of cards invariant, and sequences of box moves on the Young diagrams of partitions. Using these ideas we obtain a very short proof of a generalization of a result of Phatarfod on the eigenvalues of the random-to-top shuffle. We also prove analogous results for random-to-top shuffles that may flip certain cards. The proofs use the Solomon descent algebras of Types A, B and~D. We give generating functions and asymptotic results for all the combinatorial quantities studied in this paper.
Simultaneous core partitions: parameterizations and sums

Fix coprime $s,t\ge1$. We re-prove, without Ehrhart reciprocity, a conjecture of Armstrong (recently verified by Johnson) that the finitely many simultaneous $(s,t)$-cores have average size $\frac{1}{24}(s-1)(t-1)(s+t+1)$, and that the subset of self-conjugate cores has the same average (first shown by Chen--Huang--Wang). We similarly prove a recent conjecture of Fayers that the average weighted by an inverse stabilizer---giving the "expected size of the $t$-core of a random $s$-core"---is $\frac{1}{24}(s-1)(t^2-1)$. We also prove Fayers' conjecture that the analogous self-conjugate average is the same if $t$ is odd, but instead $\frac{1}{24}(s-1)(t^2+2)$ if $t$ is even. In principle, our explicit methods---or implicit variants thereof---extend to averages of arbitrary powers.
The main new observation is that the stabilizers appearing in Fayers' conjectures have simple formulas in Johnson's $z$-coordinates parameterization of $(s,t)$-cores.
We also observe that the $z$-coordinates extend to parameterize general $t$-cores. As an example application with $t := s+d$, we count the number of $(s,s+d,s+2d)$-cores for coprime $s,d\ge1$, verifying a recent conjecture of Amdeberhan and Leven.
