Drinfeld orbifold algebras are a type of deformation of skew group algebras generalizing graded Hecke algebras of interest in representation theory, algebraic combinatorics, and noncommutative geometry. In this article, we classify all Drinfeld orbifold algebras for symmetric groups acting by the natural permutation representation. This provides, for nonabelian groups, infinite families of examples of Drinfeld orbifold algebras that are not graded Hecke algebras. We include explicit descriptions of the maps recording commutator relations and show there is a one-parameter family of such maps supported only on the identity and a three-parameter family of maps supported only on 3-cycles and 5-cycles. Each commutator map must satisfy properties arising from a Poincaré-Birkhoff-Witt condition on the algebra, and our analysis of the properties illustrates reduction techniques using orbits of group element factorizations and intersections of fixed point spaces.
On the Automorphism Group of a Graph
An automorphism of a graph $G$ with $n$ vertices is a bijective map $φ$ from $V(G)$ to itself such that $φ(v_i)φ(v_j)\in E(G)$ $\Leftrightarrow$ $v_i v_j\in E(G)$ for any two vertices $v_i$ and $v_j$ of $G$. Denote by $\mathfrak{G}$ the group consisting of all automorphisms of $G$. As well-known, the structure of the action of $\mathfrak{G}$ on $V(G)$ is represented definitely by its block systems. On the other hand for each permutation $σ$ on $[n]$, there is a natural action on any vector $\pmb{v}=(v_1,v_2,\ldots,v_n)^t\in \mathbb{R}^n$ such that $σ\pmb{v}=(v_{σ^{-1}1},v_{σ^{-1}2},\ldots,v_{σ^{-1} n})^t$. Accordingly, we actually have a permutation representation of $\mathfrak{G}$ in $\mathbb{R}^n$. In this paper, we establish the some connections between block systems of $\mathfrak{G}$ and its irreducible representations, and by virtue of that we finally devise an algorithm outputting a generating set and all block systems of $\mathfrak{G}$ within time $n^{C \log n}$ for some constant $C$.

We give a closed formula for the number of partitions $λ$ of $n$ such that the corresponding irreducible representation $V_λ$ of $S_n$ has non-trivial determinant. We determine how many of these partitions are self-conjugate and how many are hooks. This is achieved by characterizing the $2$-core towers of such partitions. We also obtain a formula for the number of partitions of $n$ such that the associated permutation representation of $S_n$ has non-trivial determinant.

Consider a discrete valuation ring $R$ whose residue field is finite of cardinality at least $3$. For a finite torsion module, we consider transitive subsets $O$ under the action of the automorphism group of the module. We prove that the associated permutation representation on the complex vector space $C[O]$ is multiplicity free. This is achieved by obtaining a complete description of the transitive subsets of $O\times O$ under the diagonal action of the automorphism group.

This is the fourth paper in a series. We prove a conjecture made independently by Boston et al and Shalev. The conjecture asserts that there is an absolute positive constant delta such that if G is a finite simple group acting transitively on a set of size n > 1, then the proportion of derangements in G is greater than delta. We show that with possibly finitely many exceptions, one can take delta = .016. Indeed, we prove much stronger results showing that for many actions, the proportion of derangements goes to 1 as n increases and prove similar results for families of permutation representations.
Kostka multiplicity one for multipartitions
If $[λ(j)]$ is a multipartition of the positive integer $n$ (a sequence of partitions with total size $n$), and $μ$ is a partition of $n$, we study the number $K_{[λ(j)]μ}$ of sequences of semistandard Young tableaux of shape $[λ(j)]$ and total weight $μ$. We show that the numbers $K_{[λ(j)] μ}$ occur naturally as the multiplicities in certain permutation representations of wreath products. The main result is a set of conditions on $[λ(j)]$ and $μ$ which are equivalent to $K_{[λ(j)] μ} = 1$, generalizing a theorem of Berenshteĭn and Zelevinskiĭ. We also show that the questions of whether $K_{[λ(j)] μ} > 0$ or $K_{[λ(j)] μ} = 1$ can be answered in polynomial time, expanding on a result of Narayanan. Finally, we give an application to multiplicities in the degenerate Gel'fand-Graev representations of the finite general linear group, and we show that the problem of determining whether a given irreducible representation of the finite general linear group appears with nonzero multiplicity in a given degenerate Gel'fand-Graev representation, with their partition parameters as input, is $NP$-complete.

(Dieudonné and) Dwork's lemma gives a necessary and sufficient condition for an exponential of a formal power series $S(z)$ with coefficients in $Q_p$ to have coefficients in $Z_p$. We establish theorems on the $p$-adic valuation of the coefficients of the exponential of $S(z)$, assuming weaker conditions on the coefficients of $S(z)$ than in Dwork's lemma. As applications, we provide several results concerning lower bounds on the $p$-adic valuation of the number of permutation representations of finitely generated groups. In particular, we give fairly tight lower bounds in the case of an arbitrary finite Abelian $p$-group, thus generalising numerous results in special cases that had appeared earlier in the literature. Further applications include sufficient conditions for ultimate periodicity of subgroup numbers modulo $p$ for free products of finite Abelian $p$-groups, results on $p$-divisibility of permutation numbers with restrictions on their cycle structure, and a curious "supercongruence" for a certain binomial sum.

Let G be a finite group acting on the finite set X such that the corresponding (complex) permutation representation is multiplicity free. There is a natural rank and order preserving action of the wreath product G~S_n on the generalized Boolean algebra B_X(n). We explicitly block diagonalize the commutant of this action.

The classical parking functions, counted by the Cayley number (n+1)^(n-1), carry a natural permutation representation of the symmetric group S_n in which the number of orbits is the n'th Catalan number. In this paper, we will generalize this setup to rational parking functions indexed by a pair (a,b) of coprime positive integers. We show that these parking functions, which are counted by b^(a-1), carry a permutation representation of S_a in which the number of orbits is a rational Catalan number. We compute the Frobenius characteristic of the S_a-module of (a,b)-parking functions. Next we propose a combinatorial formula for a q-analogue of the rational Catalan numbers and relate this formula to a new combinatorial model for q-binomial coefficients. Finally, we discuss q,t-analogues of rational Catalan numbers and parking functions (generalizing the shuffle conjecture for the classical case) and present several conjectures.

A vector species is a functor from the category of finite sets with bijections to vector spaces (over a fixed field); informally, one can view this as a sequence of $S_n$-modules. A Hopf monoid (in the category of vector species) consists of a vector species with unit, counit, product, and coproduct morphisms satisfying several compatibility conditions, analogous to a graded Hopf algebra. A vector species has a basis if and only if it is given by a sequence of $S_n$-modules which are permutation representations. We say that a Hopf monoid is freely self-dual if it is connected and finite-dimensional, and if it has a basis in which the structure constants of its product and coproduct coincide. Such Hopf monoids are self-dual in the usual sense, and we show that they are furthermore both commutative and cocommutative. We prove more specific classification theorems for freely self-dual Hopf monoids whose products (respectively, coproducts) are linearized in the sense that they preserve the basis; we call such Hopf monoids strongly self-dual (respectively, linearly self-dual). In particular, we show that every strongly self-dual Hopf monoid has a basis isomorphic to some species of block-labeled set partitions, on which the product acts as the disjoint union. In turn, every linearly self-dual Hopf monoid has a basis isomorphic to the species of maps to a fixed set, on which the coproduct acts as restriction. It follows that every linearly self-dual Hopf monoid is strongly self-dual. Our final results concern connected Hopf monoids which are finite-dimensional, commutative, and cocommutative. We prove that such a Hopf monoid has a basis in which its product and coproduct are both linearized if and only if it is strongly self-dual with respect to a basis equipped with a certain partial order, generalizing the refinement partial order on set partitions.
Lie elements in the group algebra
Given a representation V of a group G, there are two natural ways of defining a representation of the group algebra k[G] in the external power V^{\wedge m}. The set L(V) of elements of k[G] for which these two ways give the same result is a Lie algebra and a representation of G. For the case when G is a symmetric group and V = C^n, a permutation representation, these spaces L(C^n) are naturally embedded into one another. We describe L(C^n) for small n and formulate some questions and conjectures.
This is a note on research in progress.
Extended Orbits-Fixedpoints Relations
I extend further, using new proofs, two generalizations of an earlier orbits-fixed-points theorem, which was restricted to group action of the symmetric group. The extended equality makes use of the Stirling numbers of the second kind. An illustration using Mathieu group M24 is discussed. Possible applications using tensor products of matrix permutation representations is indicated.
Parking Spaces

Let $W$ be a Weyl group with root lattice $Q$ and Coxeter number $h$. The elements of the finite torus $Q/(h+1)Q$ are called the $W$-{\sf parking functions}, and we call the permutation representation of $W$ on the set of $W$-parking functions the (standard) $W$-{\sf parking space}. Parking spaces have interesting connections to enumerative combinatorics, diagonal harmonics, and rational Cherednik algebras. In this paper we define two new $W$-parking spaces, called the {\sf noncrossing parking space} and the {\sf algebraic parking space}, with the following features: 1) They are defined more generally for real reflection groups. 2) They carry not just $W$-actions, but $W\times C$-actions, where $C$ is the cyclic subgroup of $W$ generated by a Coxeter element. 3) In the crystallographic case, both are isomorphic to the standard $W$-parking space. Our Main Conjecture is that the two new parking spaces are isomorphic to each other as permutation representations of $W\times C$. This conjecture ties together several threads in the Catalan combinatorics of finite reflection groups. We provide evidence for the conjecture, proofs of some special cases, and suggest further directions for the theory.

A permutation representation of a Coxeter group $W$ naturally defines an absolute order. This family of partial orders (which includes the absolute order on $W$) is introduced and studied in this paper. Conditions under which the associated rank generating polynomial divides the rank generating polynomial of the absolute order on $W$ are investigated when $W$ is finite. Several examples, including a symmetric group action on perfect matchings, are discussed. As an application, a well-behaved absolute order on the alternating subgroup of $W$ is defined.
Frobenius polytopes
A real representation of a finite group naturally determines a polytope, generalizing the well-known Birkhoff polytope. This paper determines the structure of the polytope corresponding to the natural permutation representation of a general Frobenius group.

We define a family of ideals $I_h$ in the polynomial ring $\mathbb{Z}[x_1,...,x_n]$ that are parametrized by Hessenberg functions $h$ (equivalently Dyck paths or ample partitions). The ideals $I_h$ generalize algebraically a family of ideals called the Tanisaki ideal, which is used in a geometric construction of permutation representations called Springer theory. To define $I_h$, we use polynomials in a proper subset of the variables ${x_1,...,x_n}$ that are symmetric under the corresponding permutation subgroup. We call these polynomials {\em truncated symmetric functions} and show combinatorial identities relating different kinds of truncated symmetric polynomials. We then prove several key properties of $I_h$, including that if $h>h'$ in the natural partial order on Dyck paths then $I_{h} \subset I_{h'}$, and explicitly construct a Gröbner basis for $I_h$. We use a second family of ideals $J_h$ for which some of the claims are easier to see, and prove that $I_h = J_h$. The ideals $J_h$ arise in work of Ding, Develin-Martin-Reiner, and Gasharov-Reiner on a family of Schubert varieties called partition varieties. Using earlier work of the first author, the current manuscript proves that the ideals $I_h = J_h$ generalize the Tanisaki ideals both algebraically and geometrically, from Springer varieties to a family of nilpotent Hessenberg varieties.

The permutation representation afforded by a Coxeter group W acting on the cosets of a standard parabolic subgroup inherits many nice properties from W such as a shellable Bruhat order and a flat deformation over Z[q] to a representation of the corresponding Hecke algebra. In this paper we define a larger class of ``quasiparabolic" subgroups (more generally, quasiparabolic W-sets), and show that they also inherit these properties. Our motivating example is the action of the symmetric group on fixed-point-free involutions by conjugation.

Let $sigma$ be a complete simplicial fan in finite dimensional real Euclidean space $V$, and let $G$ be a cyclic subgroup of $GL(V)$ which acts properly on $σ$. We show that the representation of $G$ carried by the cohomology of $X_{sigma}$, the toric variety associated to $sigma$, is a permutation representation.
A statistic on the roots of a finite reflection group and a correspondence between the height function and Bruhat order
The action of a finite reflection group (type A) on its set of roots is understood as a permutation representation or group action. We show that this representation is an induced representation from a certain kind of parabolic subgroup. Furthermore, we use this representation to define a statistic (derived from the length function) on the set of roots. A possible application to Costas Arrays is hinted at in a proposition.
A remark on Frobenius characters for set representations of symmetric groups
For any set representation (permutation representation) of the symmetric group $S_n$, we give combinatorial interpretation for coefficients of its Frobenius character expanded in the basis of monomial symmetric functions.
