A bijection for two sequences in OEIS
We show that sequences A026737 and A111279 in The On-Line Encyclopedia of Integer Sequences are the same by giving a bijection between two classes of Grand Schroder paths.
A note on a bijection for Schröder permutations
There is a bijection from Schroder paths to {4132, 4231}-avoiding permutations due to Bandlow, Egge, and Killpatrick that sends "area" to "inversion number". Here we give a concise description of this bijection.

We address the problem of enumerating paths in square lattices, where allowed steps include (1,0) and (0,1) everywhere, and (1,1) above the diagonal y=x. We consider two such lattices differing in whether the (1,1) steps are allowed along the diagonal itself. Our analysis leads to explicit generating functions and an efficient way to compute terms of many sequences in the Online Encyclopedia of Integer Sequences, proposed by Clark Kimberling almost two decades ago.

We consider a sorting machine consisting of two stacks in series where the first stack has the added restriction that entries in the stack must be in decreasing order from top to bottom. The class of permutations sortable by this machine are known to be enumerated by the Schröder numbers. In this paper, we give a bijection between these sortable permutations of length $n$ and Schröder paths -- the lattice paths from $(0,0)$ to $(n-1,n-1)$ composed of East steps $(1,0)$, North steps $(0,1)$, and Diagonal steps $(1,1)$ that travel weakly below the line $y=x$.

We give a counting formula for the set of rectangular increasing tableaux in terms of generalized Narayana numbers. We define small $m$-Schröder paths and give a bijection between the set of increasing rectangular tableaux and small $m$-Schröder paths, generalizing a result of Pechenik [3]. Using $K$-jeu de taquin promotion, which was defined by Thomas and Yong [10], we give a cyclic sieving phenomenon for the set of increasing hook tableaux.

A Töplitz determinant whose entries are described by a q-analogue of the Narayana polynomials is evaluated by means of Laurent biorthogonal polynomials which allow of a combinatorial interpretation in terms of Schröder paths. As an application, a new proof is given to the Aztec diamond theorem by Elkies, Kuperberg, Larsen and Propp concerning domino tilings of the Aztec diamonds. The proof is based on the correspondence with non-intersecting Schröder paths developed by Eu and Fu.

We give a bijective proof of the Aztec diamond theorem, stating that there are $2^{n(n+1)/2}$ domino tilings of the Aztec diamond of order $n$. The proof in fact establishes a similar result for non-intersecting families of $n+1$ Schröder paths, with horizontal, diagonal or vertical steps, linking the grid points of two adjacent sides of an $n\times n$ square grid; these families are well known to be in bijection with tilings of the Aztec diamond. Our bijection is produced by an invertible "combing" algorithm, operating on families of paths without non-intersection condition, but instead with the requirement that any vertical steps come at the end of a path, and which are clearly $2^{n(n+1)/2}$ in number; it transforms them into non-intersecting families.

An increasing tableau is a semistandard tableau with strictly increasing rows and columns. It is well known that the Catalan numbers enumerate both rectangular standard Young tableaux of two rows and also Dyck paths. We generalize this to a bijection between rectangular 2-row increasing tableaux and small Schröder paths. We demonstrate relations between the jeu de taquin for increasing tableaux developed by H. Thomas and A. Yong and the combinatorics of tropical frieze patterns. We then use this jeu de taquin to present new instances of the cyclic sieving phenomenon of V. Reiner, D. Stanton, and D. White, generalizing results of D. White and of J. Stembridge.

We study geometric and combinatorial properties of the degenerate flag varieties of type A. These varieties are acted upon by the automorphism group of a certain representation of a type A quiver, containing a maximal torus T. Using the group action, we describe the moment graphs, encoding the zero- and one-dimensional T-orbits. We also study the smooth and singular loci of the degenerate flag varieties. We show that the Euler characteristic of the smooth locus is equal to the large Schröder number and the Poincaré polynomial is given by a natural statistics counting the number of diagonal steps in a Schröder path. As an application we obtain a new combinatorial description of the large and small Schröder numbers and their q-analogues.

For a real number $t$, let $r_\ell(t)$ be the total weight of all $t$-large Schröder paths of length $\ell$, and $s_\ell(t)$ be the total weight of all $t$-small Schröder paths of length $\ell$. For constants $α, β$, in this article we derive recurrence formulae for the determinats of the Hankel matrices $\det_{1\le i,j\le n} (αr_{i+j-2}(t) +βr_{i+j-1}(t))$,
$\det_{1\le i,j\le n} (αr_{i+j-1}(t) +βr_{i+j}(t))$,
$\det_{1\le i,j\le n} (αs_{i+j-2}(t) +βs_{i+j-1}(t))$, and $\det_{1\le i,j\le n} (αs_{i+j-1}(t) +βs_{i+j}(t))$ combinatorially via suitable lattice path models.

In this paper we study the number of humps (peaks) in Dyck, Motzkin and Schröder paths. Recently A. Regev noticed that the number of peaks in all Dyck paths of order $n$ is one half of the number of super Dyck paths of order $n$. He also computed the number of humps in Motzkin paths and found a similar relation, and asked for bijective proofs. We give a bijection and prove these results. Using this bijection we also give a new proof that the number of Dyck paths of order $n$ with $k$ peaks is the Narayana number. By double counting super Schröder paths, we also get an identity involving products of binomial coefficients.
Inverses of Motzkin and Schröder Paths
We suggest three applications for the inverses: For the inverse Motzkin matrix we look at Hankel determinants, and counting the paths inside a horizontal band, and for the inverse Schröder matrix we look at the paths inside the same band, but ending on the top side of the band.
Centrosymmetric Permutations and Involutions Avoiding 1243 and 2143
A centrosymmetric permutation is one which is invariant under the reverse-complement operation, or equivalently one whose associated standard Young tableaux under the Robinson-Schensted algorithm are both invariant under the Schutzenberger involution. In this paper, we characterize the set of permutations avoiding 1243 and 2143 whose images under the reverse-complement mapping also avoid these patterns. We also characterize in a simple manner the corresponding Schroder paths under a bijection of Egge and Mansour. We then use these results to enumerate centrosymmetric permutations avoiding the patterns 1243 and 2143. In a similar manner, centrosymmetric involutions avoiding these same patterns are shown to be enumerated by the Pell numbers.
The Riordan Group and Symmetric Lattice Paths
In this paper, we study symmetric lattice paths. Let $d_{n}$, $m_{n}$, and $s_{n}$ denote the number of symmetric Dyck paths, symmetric Motzkin paths, and symmetric Schröder paths of length $2n$, respectively. By using Riordan group methods we obtain six identities relating $d_{n}$, $m_{n}$, and $s_{n}$ and also give two of them combinatorial proofs. Finally, we investigate some relations satisfied by the generic element of some special Riordan arrays and get the average mid-height and the average number of points on the x-axis of symmetric Dyck paths of length $2n.$

Let $A_k$ be the set of permutations in the symmetric group $S_k$ with prefix 12. This paper concerns the enumeration of involutions which avoid the set of patterns $A_k$. We present a bijection between symmetric Schroder paths of length $2n$ and involutions of length $n+1$ avoiding $\mathcal{A}_4$. Statistics such as the number of right-to-left maxima and fixed points of the involution correspond to the number of steps in the symmetric Schroder path of a particular type. For each $k> 2$ we determine the generating function for the number of involutions avoiding the subsequences in $A_k$, according to length, first entry and number of fixed points.
Schröder Paths and Pattern Avoiding Partitions
In this paper, we show that both 12312-avoiding partitions and 12321-avoiding partitions of the set $[n+1]$ are in one-to-one correspondence with Schröder paths of semilength $n$ without peaks at even level. As a consequence, the refined enumeration of 12312-avoiding (resp. 12321-avoiding) partitions according to the number of blocks can be reduced to the enumeration of certain Schröder paths according to the number of peaks. Furthermore, we get the enumeration of irreducible 12312-avoiding (resp. 12321-avoiding) partitions, which are closely related to skew Dyck paths.

In this paper, the problem of pattern avoidance in generalized non-crossing trees is studied. The generating functions for generalized non-crossing trees avoiding patterns of length one and two are obtained. Lagrange inversion formula is used to obtain the explicit formulas for some special cases. Bijection is also established between generalized non-crossing trees with special pattern avoidance and the little Schröder paths.

We consider paths in the plane with $(1,0),$ $(0,1),$ and $(a,b)$-steps that start at the origin, end at height $n,$ and stay to the left of a given non-decreasing right boundary. We show that if the boundary is periodic and has slope at most $b/a,$ then the ordinary generating function for the number of such paths ending at height $n$ is algebraic. Our argument is in two parts. We use a simple combinatorial decomposition to obtain an Appell relation or ``umbral'' generating function, in which the power $z^n$ is replaced by a power series of the form $z^n φ_n(z),$ where $φ_n(0) = 1.$ Then we convert (in an explicit way) the umbral generating function to an ordinary generating function by solving a system of linear equations and a polynomial equation. This conversion implies that the ordinary generating function is algebraic.

The notion of noncrossing linked partition arose from the study of certain transforms in free probability theory. It is known that the number of noncrossing linked partitions of [n+1] is equal to the n-th large Schroder number $r_n$, which counts the number of Schroder paths. In this paper we give a bijective proof of this result. Then we introduce the structures of linked partitions and linked cycles. We present various combinatorial properties of noncrossing linked partitions, linked partitions, and linked cycles, and connect them to other combinatorial structures and results, including increasing trees, partial matchings, k-Stirling numbers of the second kind, and the symmetry between crossings and nestings over certain linear graphs.
The Butterfly Decomposition of Plane Trees

We introduce the notion of doubly rooted plane trees and give a decomposition of these trees, called the butterfly decomposition which turns out to have many applications. From the butterfly decomposition we obtain a one-to-one correspondence between doubly rooted plane trees and free Dyck paths, which implies a simple derivation of a relation between the Catalan numbers and the central binomial coefficients. We also establish a one-to-one correspondence between leaf-colored doubly rooted plane trees and free Schröder paths. The classical Chung-Feller theorem on free Dyck paths and some generalizations and variations with respect to Dyck paths and Schröder paths with flaws turn out to be immediate consequences of the butterfly decomposition and the preorder traversal of plane trees. We obtain two involutions on free Dyck paths and free Schröder paths, leading to two combinatorial identities. We also use the butterfly decomposition to give a combinatorial treatment of the generating function for the number of chains in plane trees due to Klazar. We further study the average size of chains in plane trees with $n$ edges and show that this number asymptotically tends to ${n+9 \over 6}$.
