Wilson's theorem modulo p^2 derived from Faulhaber polynomials
First, we present a new proof of Glaisher's formula dating from 1900 and concerning Wilson's theorem modulo p^2. Our proof uses p-adic numbers and Faulhaber's formula for the sums of powers (17th century), as well as more recent results on Faulhaber's coefficients obtained by Gessel and Viennot. Second, by using our method, we find a simpler proof than Sun's proof regarding a formula for (p-1)! modulo p^3, and one that can be generalized to higher powers of p. Third, we can derive from our method a way to compute the Stirling numbers modulo p^3, thus improving Glaisher and Sun's own results from 120 years ago and 20 years ago respectively. Last, our method allows to find new congruences on convolution of divided Bernoulli numbers and convolutions of divided Bernoulli numbers with Bernoulli numbers.

On a series for the upper incomplete Gamma function
We define an absolutely convergent series for the upper incomplete Gamma function $Γ(s,z)$ for $z\geq 1$ and $s\in \mathbb{C}$. We express this series using certain polynomials which we define using the Stirling numbers of the first kind. We prove that these polynomials have positive coefficients by defining a three-parameter family of integers and certain linear operators on vector spaces of polynomials. We then apply this series to obtain a formula for the Riemann xi function valid at any $s \in \mathbb{C}$.
New Results on Higher-Order Changhee Numbers and Polynomials
We derive new matrix representation for higher-order changhee numbers and polynomials. This helps us to obtain simple and short proofs of many previous results on higher-order changhee numbers and polynomials. Moreover, we obtain recurrence relations, explicit formulas and some new results for these numbers and polynomials. Furthermore, we investigate the relations between these numbers and polynomials and Stirling numbers, Norlund and Bernoulli numbers of higher-order. Some numerical results using Mathcad program are introduced.
A Combinatorial Analysis Of Higher Order Generalised Geometric Polynomials: A Generalisation Of Barred Preferential Arrangements
Published • View PublicationBIB
A barred preferential arrangement is a preferential arrangement, onto which in-between the blocks of the preferential arrangement a number of identical bars are inserted. We offer a generalisation of barred preferential arrangements by making use of the generalised Stirling numbers proposed by Hsu and Shiue (1998). We discuss how these generalised barred preferential arrangements offer a unified combinatorial interpretation of geometric polynomials. We also discuss asymptotic properties of these numbers.

On certain polynomial systems involving Stirling numbers of second kind
Published • View PublicationBIB
We solve a special type of linear systems with coefficients in multivariate polynomial rings. These systems arise in the computation of parametric Bernstein-Sato polynomials associated with certain hypergeometric ideals in the Weyl algebra.

Unordered Factorizations with $k$ Parts
We derive new formulas for the number of unordered (distinct) factorizations with $k$ parts of a positive integer $n$ as sums over the partitions of $k$ and an auxiliary function, the number of partitions of the prime exponents of $n$, where the parts have a specific number of colors. As a consequence, some new relations between partitions, Bell numbers and Stirling number of the second kind are derived. We also derive a recursive formula for the number of unordered factorizations with $k$ different parts and a simple recursive formula for the number of partitions with $k$ different parts.

A formula on Stirling numbers of the second kind and its application to the unstable $K$-theory of stunted complex projective spaces
A formula on Stirling numbers of the second kind $S(n, k)$ is proved. As a corollary, for odd $n$ and even $k$, it is shown that $k!S(n, k)$ is a positive multiple of the greatest common divisor of $j!S(n, j)$ for $k+1\leq j\leq n$. Also, as an application to algebraic topology, some isomorphisms of unstable $K^1$-groups of stunted complex projective spaces are deduced.

Enumeration of Flats of the Extended Catalan and Shi Arrangements with Species
Published in Journal of Integer Sequences, Vol. 24 (2021), Article 21.9.2 • Search Publication
The number of flats of a hyperplane arrangement is considered as a generalization of the Bell number and the Stirling number of the second kind. Robert Gill gave the exponential generating function of the number of flats of the extended Catalan arrangements, using species. In this article, we introduce the species of flats of the extended Catalan and Shi arrangements and they are given by iterated substitution of species of sets and lists. Moreover, we enumerate the flats of these arrangements in terms of infinite matrices.
Sets of iterated Partitions and the Bell iterated Exponential Integers
It is well known that the Bell numbers represent the total number of partitions of an n-set. Similarly, the Stirling numbers of the second kind, represent the number of k-partitions of an n-set. In this paper we introduce a certain partitioning process that gives rise to a sequence of sets of "nested" partitions. We prove that at stage m, the cardinality of the resulting set will equal the m-th order Bell number. This set-theoretic interpretation enables us to make a natural definition of higher order Stirling numbers and to study the combinatorics of these entities. The cardinality of the elements of the constructed "hyper partition" sets are explored.

Mixed coloured permutations
In this paper we introduce mixed coloured permutation, permutations with certain coloured cycles, and study the enumerative properties of these combinatorial objects. We derive the generating function, closed forms, recursions and combinatorial identities for the counting sequence, mixed Stirling numbers of the first kind. In this comprehensive study we consider further the conditions on the length of the cycles, $r$-mixed Stirling numbers and the connection to Bell polynomials.

Moser Polynomials and Eulerian Numbers
Article presents a short investigation into some properties of the Moser polynomials which appear in various problems from algebraic combinatorics. For instance, these polynomials can be used to solve the Generalized Moser's Problem on multiset recovery: Can a collection (multiset) of $n$ numbers can be uniquely restored given the collection of its $s$-sums? We prove some explicit formulas showing relationships between Moser polynomials and such popular algebraic combinatorial sequences as Eulerian and Stirling numbers.

Signed partitions - A balls into urns approach
Using Reiner's definition of Stirling numbers of type B of the second kind, we provide a 'balls into urns' approach for proving a generalization of a well-known identity concerning the classical Stirling numbers of the second kind: $x^n=\sum\limits_{k=0}^n{S(n,k)[x]_k}.$

An Aearated Triangular Array of Integers
Congruences modulo prime powers involving generalized Harmonic numbers are known. While looking for similar congruences, we have encountered a curious triangular array of numbers indexed with positive integers $n,k$, involving the Bernoulli and cycle Stirling numbers. These numbers are all integers and they vanish when $n-k$ is odd. This triangle has many similarities with the Stirling triangle. In particular, we show how it can be extended to negative indices and how this extension produces a {\it second kind} of such integers which may be considered as a new generalization of the Genocchi numbers and for which a generating function is easily obtained. But our knowledge of these integers remains limited, especially for those of the {\it first kind}.

Some identities involving second kind Stirling numbers of types $B$ and $D$
Published in Electro. J. Combin. 26(3) (2019), P3.9 • Search Publication
Using Reiner's definition of Stirling numbers of the second kind in types $B$ and $D$, we generalize two well-known identities concerning the classical Stirling numbers of the second kind. The first identity relates them with Eulerian numbers and the second identity interprets them as entries in a transition matrix between the elements of two standard bases of the polynomial ring $R[x]$. Finally, we generalize these identities to the group of colored permutations $G_{m,n}$.

Logarithms of a binomial series: A Stirling number approach
The $p$-th power of the logarithm of the Catalan generating function is computed using the Stirling cycle numbers. Instead of Stirling numbers, one may write this generating function in terms of higher order harmonic numbers.
Mixed restricted Stirling numbers
In this note we investigate mixed partitions with extra condition on the sizes of the blocks. We give a general formula and the generating function. We consider in more details a special case, determining the generating functions, some recurrences and a connection to r-Stirling numbers. To obtain our results, we use pure combinatorial arguments, classical manipulations of generating functions and to derive the generating functions we apply the symbolic method.
Restricted $r$-Stirling Numbers and their Combinatorial Applications
We study set partitions with $r$ distinguished elements and block sizes found in an arbitrary index set $S$. The enumeration of these $(S,r)$-partitions leads to the introduction of $(S,r)$-Stirling numbers, an extremely wide-ranging generalization of the classical Stirling numbers and the $r$-Stirling numbers. We also introduce the associated $(S,r)$-Bell and $(S,r)$-factorial numbers. We study fundamental aspects of these numbers, including recurrence relations and determinantal expressions. For $S$ with some extra structure, we show that the inverse of the $(S,r)$-Stirling matrix encodes the Möbius functions of two families of posets. Through several examples, we demonstrate that for some $S$ the matrices and their inverses involve the enumeration sequences of several combinatorial objects. Further, we highlight how the $(S,r)$-Stirling numbers naturally arise in the enumeration of cliques and acyclic orientations of special graphs, underlining their ubiquity and importance. Finally, we introduce related $(S,r)$ generalizations of the poly-Bernoulli and poly-Cauchy numbers, uniting many past works on generalized combinatorial sequences.

An identity for the odd double factorial
The ordinary factorial may be written in terms of the Stirling numbers of the second kind as shown by Quaintance and Gould and the odd double factorial in terms of the Stirling numbers of the first kind as shown by Callan. During the preparation of an expository paper on Wolstenholme's Theorem, we discovered an expression for the odd double factorial using the Stirling numbers of the second kind. This appears to be the first such identity involving both positive and negative integers and the result is outlined here.

We investigate the combinatorics of the general formulas for the powers of the operator $h \partial^k$, where $h$ is a central element of a ring and $\partial$ is a differential operator. This generalizes previous work on the powers of operators $h \partial$. New formulas for the generalized Stirling numbers are obtained.

Some conjectures on the Schur expansion of Jack polynomials
Published • View PublicationBIB
We present positivity conjectures for the Schur expansion of Jack symmetric functions in two bases given by binomial coefficients. Partial results suggest that there are rich combinatorics to be found in these bases, including Eulerian numbers, Stirling numbers, quasi-Yamanouchi tableaux, and rook boards. These results also lead to further conjectures about the fundamental quasisymmetric expansions of these bases, which we prove for special cases.
