In this paper, we define the generalized r-Whitney numbers of the first and second kind. Moreover, we drive the generalized Whitney numbers of the first and second kind. The recurrence relations and the generating functions of these numbers are derived. The relations between these numbers and generalized Stirling numbers of the first and second kind are deduced. Furthermore, some special cases are given. Finally, matrix representation of The relations between Whitney and Stirling numbers are given.
Partial flag incidence algebras
The $n^{th}$ partial flag incidence algebra of a poset $P$ is the set of functions from $P^n$ to some ring which are zero on non-partial flag vectors. These partial flag incidence algebras for $n>2$ are not commutative, not unitary, and not associative. However, partial flag incidence algebras contain generalized zeta, delta, and Möbius functions which are finer and more delicate invariants than their classical analogues. We also study some generalized characteristic polynomials of posets which are not evaluations of Tutte polynomials and compute them for Boolean lattices. Motivation for this work came from studying the matroid Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials where partial flag Whitney numbers play a central role.

In this paper, we study some properties of Whitney numbers of Dowling lattices and related polynomials. We answer the following question: there is relation between Stirling and Eulerian polynomials. Can we find a new relation between Dowling polynomials and other polynomials generalizing Eulerian polynomials? In addition, some congruences for the Dowling numbers are given.

The Topological Representation Theorem for (oriented) matroids states that every (oriented) matroid can be realized as the intersection lattice of an arrangement of codimension one homotopy spheres on a homotopy sphere. In this paper, we use a construction of Engström to show that structure-preserving maps between matroids induce topological mappings between their representations; a result previously known only in the oriented case. Specifically, we show that weak maps induce continuous maps and that the process is a functor from the category of matroids with weak maps to the homotopy category of topological spaces. We also give a new and conceptual proof of a result regarding the Whitney numbers of the first kind of a matroid.
On natural join of posets properties and first applications
In addition to the three standard operations on posets which are dual of poset or ordinal and cardinal sums of partial ordered sets one adds the natural join of posets. This is especially natural natural join operation for graded posets including very special and important the so called cobweb posets. The main aims of this article are the presentation of the authors update applications of natural join of posets in the domain of graded posets and summary of the general properties of natural join of posets with posing some questions arising on the way. Thus in this note apart from revealing some general properties of natural join of posets we also deliver the authors combinatorial interpretations of cobweb posets including discrete hyperboxes coding of the so called cobweb posets .Various explicit formulas for the zeta functions and zeta matrices as well as the inverse of zeta matrix for any graded posets are supplied. Whitney numbers formulas and those for characteristic polynomials are given too.

We introduce a natural partial order in structurally natural finite subsets of the cobweb prefabs sets recently constructed by the present author. Whitney numbers of the second kind of the corresponding subposet which constitute Stirling like numbers triangular array are then calculated and the explicit formula for them is provided. Next, in the second construction we endow the set sums of prefabiants with such an another partial order that their Bell like numbers include Fibonacci triad sequences introduced recently by the present author in order to extend famous relation between binomial Newton coefficients and Fibonacci numbers onto the infinity of their relatives among whom there are also the Fibonacci triad sequences and binomial like coefficients (incidence coefficients included). The first partial order is F sequence independent while the second partial order is F sequence dependent where F is the so called admissible sequence determining cobweb poset by construction. An F determined cobweb posets Hasse diagram becomes Fibonacci tree sheathed with specific cobweb if the sequence F is chosen to be just the Fibonacci sequence. From the stand-point of linear algebra of formal series these are generating functions which stay for the so called extended coherent states of quantum physics. This information is delivered in the last section.

We solve some recurrences given by E. Munarini and N. Zagaglia Salvi proving explicit closed formulas for Whitney numbers of the distributive lattices of order ideals of the fence poset and crown poset. Moreover, we get explicit closed formulas for Whitney numbers of lattices of order ideals of fences with higher asymmetric peaks.

A well-known conjecture states that the Whitney numbers of the second kind of a geometric lattice (simple matroid) are logarithmically concave. We show this conjecture to be equivalent to proving an upper bound on the number of new copoints in the free erection of the associated simple matroid M. A bound on the number of these new copoints is given in terms of the copoints and colines of M. Also, the points-lines-planes conjecture is shown to be equivalent to a problem concerning the number subgraphs of a certain bipartite graph whose vertices are the points and lines of a geometric lattice.

We prove that the order complex of a geometric lattice has a convex ear decomposition. As a consequence, if D(L) is the order complex of a rank (r+1) geometric lattice L, then for all i \leq r/2 the h-vector of D(L) satisfies h(i-1) \leq h(i) and h(i) \leq h(r-i).
We also obtain several inequalities for the flag h-vector of D(L) by analyzing the weak Bruhat order of the symmetric group. As an application, we obtain a zonotopal cd-analogue of the Dowling-Wilson characterization of geometric lattices which minimize Whitney numbers of the second kind. In addition, we are able to give a combinatorial flag h-vector proof of h(i-1) \leq h(i) when i \leq (2/7)(r + 5/2).
