A well known observation of Lovász is that if a hypergraph is not $2$-colorable, then at least one pair of its edges intersect at a single vertex. %This very simple criterion turned out to be extremly useful . In this short paper we consider the quantitative version of Lovász's criterion. That is, we ask how many pairs of edges intersecting at a single vertex, should belong to a non $2$-colorable $n$-uniform hypergraph? Our main result is an {\em exact} answer to this question, which further characterizes all the extremal hypergraphs. The proof combines Bollobás's two families theorem with Pluhar's randomized coloring algorithm.

Kirchhoff's Matrix-Tree Theorem asserts that the number of spanning trees in a finite graph can be computed from the determinant of any of its reduced Laplacian matrices. In many cases, even for well-studied families of graphs, this can be computationally or algebraically taxing. We show how two well-known results from linear algebra, the Matrix Determinant Lemma and the Schur complement, can be used to elegantly count the spanning trees in several significant families of graphs.
$D$-Magic and Antimagic Labelings of Hypercubes
For a set of distances $D$, a graph $G$ of order $n$ is said to be $D-$magic if there exists a bijection $f:V\rightarrow \{1,2, \ldots, n\}$ and a constant $k$ such that for any vertex $x$, $\sum_{y\in N_D(x)} f(y) =k$, where $N_D(x)=\{y|d(y,x)=j, j\in D\}$.
In this paper we shall find sets of distances $D$s, such that the hypercube is $D-$magic. We shall utilise well-known properties of (bipartite) distance-regular graphs to construct the $D-$magic labelings.
Dirac's theorem for random regular graphs
We prove a `resilience' version of Dirac's theorem in the setting of random regular graphs. More precisely, we show that, whenever $d$ is sufficiently large compared to $\varepsilon>0$, a.a.s. the following holds: let $G'$ be any subgraph of the random $n$-vertex $d$-regular graph $G_{n,d}$ with minimum degree at least $(1/2+\varepsilon)d$. Then $G'$ is Hamiltonian.
This proves a conjecture of Ben-Shimon, Krivelevich and Sudakov. Our result is best possible: firstly, the condition that $d$ is large cannot be omitted, and secondly, the minimum degree bound cannot be improved.
Collapsibility of Random Clique Complexes
We prove a sufficient condition for a finite clique complex to collapse to a $k$-dimensional complex, and use this to exhibit thresholds for $(k+1)$-collapsibility in a sparse random clique complex. In particular, if every strongly connected, pure $(k+1)$-dimensional subcomplex of a clique complex $X$ has a vertex of degree at most $2k+1$, then $X$ is $(k+1)$-collapsible. In the random model $X(n,p)$ of clique complexes of an Erdős--Rényi random graph $G(n,p)$, we then show that for any fixed $k\geq 0$, if $p=n^{-α}$ for fixed $1/(k+1) < α< 1/k$, then a clique complex $X\overset{dist}{=} X(n,p)$ is $(k+1)$-collapsible with high probability.

Let $K_{(m,p)}$ denote the family of double twist knots where $2m-1$ and $2p$ are non-zero integers denoting the number of half-twists in each region. Using a result of Takata, we prove a formula for the colored Jones polynomial of $K_{(-m,-p)}$ and $K_{(-m,p)}$. The latter case leads to new families of $q$-hypergeometric series generalizing the Kontsevich-Zagier series. We also use Bailey pairs and formulas of Walsh to find cyclotomic-like expansions for the colored Jones polynomials of $K_{(m,p)}$ and $K_{(m,-p)}$.

An abstract system of congruences describes a way of partitioning a space into finitely many pieces satisfying certain congruence relations. Examples of abstract systems of congruences include paradoxical decompositions and $n$-divisibility of actions. We consider the general question of when there are realizations of abstract systems of congruences satisfying various measurability constraints. We completely characterize which abstract systems of congruences can be realized by nonmeager Baire measurable pieces of the sphere under the action of rotations on the $2$-sphere. This answers a question of Wagon. We also construct Borel realizations of abstract systems of congruences for the action of $\mathsf{PSL}_2(\mathbb{Z})$ on $\mathsf{P}^1(\mathbb{R})$. The combinatorial underpinnings of our proof are certain types of decomposition of Borel graphs into paths. We also use these decompositions to obtain some results about measurable unfriendly colorings.
Distribution of variables in lambda-terms with restrictions on De Bruijn indices and De Bruijn levels
We investigate the number of variables in two special subclasses of lambda-terms that are restricted by a bound of the number of abstractions between a variable and its binding lambda, the so-called De-Bruijn index, or by a bound of the nesting levels of abstractions, \textit{i.e.}, the number of De Bruijn levels, respectively. These restrictions are on the one hand very natural from a practical point of view, and on the other hand they simplify the counting problem compared to that of unrestricted lambda-terms in such a way that the common methods of analytic combinatorics are applicable.
We will show that the total number of variables is asymptotically normally distributed for both subclasses of lambda-terms with mean and variance asymptotically equal to $Cn$ and $\tilde{C}n$, respectively, where the constants $C$ and $\tilde{C}$ depend on the bound that has been imposed. So far we just derived closed formulas for the constants in case of the class of lambda-terms with bounded De Bruijn index. However, for the other class of lambda-terms that we consider, namely lambda-terms with a bounded number of De Bruijn levels, we investigate the number of variables, as well as abstractions and applications, in the different De Bruijn levels and thereby exhibit a so-called "unary profile" that attains a very interesting shape.
Stack words and a bound for 3-stack sortable permutations
We use stack words to find a new, simple proof for the best known upper bound for the number of 3-stack sortable permutations of a given length. This is the first time that stack words are used to obtain such a result.
Polyhedral products and features of their homotopy theory
A polyhedral product is a natural subspace of a Cartesian product that is specified by a simplicial complex. The modern formalism arose as a generalization of the spaces known as moment-angle complexes which were developed within the nascent subject of toric topology. This field, which began as a topological approach to toric geometry and aspects of symplectic geometry, has expanded rapidly in recent years. The investigation of polyhedral products and their homotopy theoretic properties has developed to the point where they are studied in various fields of mathematics far removed from their origin. In this survey, we provide a brief historical overview of the development of this subject, summarize many of the main results and describe applications.
Maximum $k$-sum $\mathbf{n}$-free sets of the 2-dimensional integer lattice
For a positive integer $n$, let $[n]$ denote $\{1, \ldots, n\}$. For a 2-dimensional integer lattice point $\mathbf{b}$ and positive integers $k\geq 2$ and $n$, a \textit{$k$-sum $\mathbf{b}$-free set} of $[n]\times [n]$ is a subset $S$ of $[n]\times [n]$ such that there are no elements ${\mathbf{a}}_1, \ldots, {\mathbf{a}}_k$ in $S$ satisfying ${\mathbf{a}}_1+\cdots+{\mathbf{a}}_k =\mathbf{b}$. For a 2-dimensional integer lattice point $\mathbf{b}$ and positive integers $k\geq 2$ and $n$, we determine the maximum density of a {$k$-sum $\mathbf{b}$-free set} of $[n]\times [n]$. This is the first investigation of the non-homogeneous sum-free set problem in higher dimensions.
Minimum degree of 3-graphs without long linear paths
A well known theorem in graph theory states that every graph $G$ on $n$ vertices and minimum degree at least $d$ contains a path of length at least $d$, and if $G$ is connected and $n\ge 2d+1$ then $G$ contains a path of length at least $2d$ (Dirac, 1952). In this article, we give an extension of Dirac's result to hypergraphs. We determine asymptotic lower bounds of the minimum degrees of 3-graphs to guarantee linear paths of specific lengths, and the lower bounds are tight up to a constant.
How far away must forced letters be so that squares are still avoidable?
We describe a new non-constructive technique to show that squares are avoidable by an infinite word even if we force some letters from the alphabet to appear at certain occurrences. We show that as long as forced positions are at distance at least 19 (resp. 3, resp. 2) from each other then we can avoid squares over 3 letters (resp. 4 letters, resp. 6 or more letters). We can also deduce exponential lower bounds on the number of solutions. For our main Theorem to be applicable, we need to check the existence of some languages and we explain how to verify that they exist with a computer. We hope that this technique could be applied to other avoidability questions where the good approach seems to be non-constructive (e.g., the Thue-list coloring number of the infinite path).
Decompositions into isomorphic rainbow spanning trees
A subgraph of an edge-coloured graph is called rainbow if all its edges have distinct colours. Our main result implies that, given any optimal colouring of a sufficiently large complete graph $K_{2n}$, there exists a decomposition of $K_{2n}$ into isomorphic rainbow spanning trees. This settles conjectures of Brualdi--Hollingsworth (from 1996) and Constantine (from 2002) for large graphs.
Partite Turán-densities for complete $r-$uniform hypergraphs on $r+1$ vertices
In this paper we investigate density conditions for finding a complete $r$-uniform hypergraph $K_{r+1}^{(r)}$ on $r+1$ vertices in an $(r+1)$-partite $r$-uniform hypergraph $G$. First we prove an optimal condition in terms of the densities of the $(r+1)$ induced $r$-partite subgraphs of $G$. Second, we prove a version of this result where we assume that $r$-tuples of vertices in $G$ have their neighbours evenly distributed in $G$. Third, we also prove a counting result for the minimum number of copies of $K_{r+1}^{(r)}$ when $G$ satisfies our density bound, and present some open problems. A striking difference between the graph, $r=2$, and the hypergraph, $ r \geq 3 $, cases is that in the first case both the existence threshold and the counting function are non-linear in the involved densities, whereas for hypergraphs they are given by a linear function. Also, the smallest density of the $r$-partite parts needed to ensure the existence of a complete $r$-graph with $(r+1)$ vertices is equal to the golden ratio $τ=0.618\ldots$ for $r=2$, while it is $\frac{r}{r+1}$for $r\geq3$.
The general position problem on Kneser graphs and on some graph operations
A vertex subset $S$ of a graph $G$ is a general position set of $G$ if no vertex of $S$ lies on a geodesic between two other vertices of $S$. The cardinality of a largest general position set of $G$ is the general position number (gp-number) ${\rm gp}(G)$ of $G$. The gp-number is determined for some families of Kneser graphs, in particular for $K(n,2)$ and $K(n,3)$. A sharp lower bound on the gp-number is proved for Cartesian products of graphs. The gp-number is also determined for joins of graphs, coronas over graphs, and line graphs of complete graphs.
Wilf's conjecture in fixed multiplicity
We give an algorithm to determine whether Wilf's conjecture holds for all numerical semigroups with a given multiplicity $m$, and use it to prove Wilf's conjecture holds whenever $m \le 18$. Our algorithm utilizes techniques from polyhedral geometry, and includes a parallelizable algorithm for enumerating the faces of any polyhedral cone up to orbits of an automorphism group. We also introduce a new method of verifying Wilf's conjecture via a combinatorially-flavored game played on the elements of a certain finite poset.

A Gallai coloring is an edge coloring that avoids triangles colored with three different colors. Given integers $e_1\ge e_2 \ge \dots \ge e_k$ with $\sum_{i=1}^ke_i={n \choose 2}$ for some $n$, does there exist a Gallai $k$-coloring of $K_n$ with $e_i$ edges in color $i$? In this paper, we give several sufficient conditions and one necessary condition to guarantee a positive answer to the above question. In particular, we prove the existence of a Gallai-coloring if $e_1-e_k\le 1$ and $k \le \lfloor n/2\rfloor$. We prove that for any integer $k\ge 3$ there is a (unique) integer $g(k)$ with the following property: there exists a Gallai $k$-coloring of $K_n$ with $e_i$ edges in color $i$ for every $e_1\le\dots \le e_k$ satisfying $\sum_{i=1}^ke_i={n\choose 2}$, if and only if $n\ge g(k)$. We show that $g(3)=5$, $g(4)=8$, and $2k-2\le g(k)\le 8k^2+1$ for every $k\ge 3$.
On completely multiplicative automatic sequences
In this article we prove that all completely multiplicative automatic sequences $(a_n)_{n \in \mathbf{N}}$ defined on $\mathbf{C}$, vanishing or not, can be written in the form $a_n=b_nχ_n$ where $(b_n)_{n \in \mathbf{N}}$ is an almost constant sequence, and $(χ_n)_{n \in \mathbf{N}}$ is a Dirichlet character.

The Kuramoto model is one of the most widely studied model for describing synchronization behaviors in a network of coupled oscillators, and it has found a wide range of applications. Finding all possible frequency synchronization configurations in a general non-uniform heterogeneous sparse network is an important yet difficult problem due to the complicated nonlinear interactions. In this paper, we develop a general framework for decomposing a Kuramoto network into smaller directed acyclic subnetworks that will form the foundation of a divide-and-conquer approach for studying the frequency synchronization configurations of large Kuramoto networks.
