Some remarks and conjectures related to lattice paths in strips along the x-axis
In the first part of this paper I give an elementary overview about some number sequences which count various sorts of lattice paths in strips along the x-axis and compute their generating functions in terms of Fibonacci and Lucas polynomials. In the second part I generalize these results by introducing suitable weights and study some special cases in more detail. In the course of this work I have been led to curious number triangles and various conjectures

We give several results showing that different discrete structures typically gain certain spanning substructures (in particular, Hamilton cycles) after a modest random perturbation. First, we prove that adding linearly many random edges to a dense k-uniform hypergraph ensures the (asymptotically almost sure) existence of a perfect matching or a loose Hamilton cycle. The proof involves an interesting application of Szemerédi's Regularity Lemma, which might be independently useful. We next prove that digraphs with certain strong expansion properties are pancyclic, and use this to show that adding a linear number of random edges typically makes a dense digraph pancyclic. Finally, we prove that perturbing a certain (minimum-degree-dependent) number of random edges in a tournament typically ensures the existence of multiple edge-disjoint Hamilton cycles. All our results are tight.

We introduce a new combinatorial structure: the metasylvester lattice on decreasing trees. It appears in the context of the $m$-Tamari lattices and other related $m$-generalizations. The metasylvester congruence has been recently introduced by Novelli and Thibon. We show that it defines a sublattice of the $m$-permutations where elements can be represented by decreasing labelled trees: the metasylvester lattice. We study the combinatorial properties of this new structure. In particular, we give different realizations of the lattice. The $m$-Tamari lattice is by definition a sublattice of our newly defined metasylvester lattice. It leads us to a new realization of the $m$-Tamari lattice, using certain chains of the classical Tamari lattice.
Isoperimetric Inequalities and topological overlapping for quotients of Affine buildings
We prove isoperimetric inequalities for quotients of $n$-dimensional Affine buildings. We use these inequalities to prove topological overlapping for the 2-dimensional skeletons of these buildings.
On traces of tensor representations of diagrams

Let $T$ be a set, of {\em types}, and let $ι,o:T\to\oZ_+$. A {\em $T$-diagram} is a locally ordered directed graph $G$ equipped with a function $τ:V(G)\to T$ such that each vertex $v$ of $G$ has indegree $ι(τ(v))$ and outdegree $o(τ(v))$. (A directed graph is {\em locally ordered} if at each vertex $v$, linear orders of the edges entering $v$ and of the edges leaving $v$ are specified.)
Let $V$ be a finite-dimensional $\oF$-linear space, where $\oF$ is an algebraically closed field of characteristic 0. A function $R$ on $T$ assigning to each $t\in T$ a tensor $R(t)\in V^{*\otimes ι(t)}\otimes V^{\otimes o(t)}$ is called a {\em tensor representation} of $T$. The {\em trace} (or {\em partition function}) of $R$ is the $\oF$-valued function $p_R$ on the collection of $T$-diagrams obtained by `decorating' each vertex $v$ of a $T$-diagram $G$ with the tensor $R(τ(v))$, and contracting tensors along each edge of $G$, while respecting the order of the edges entering $v$ and leaving $v$. In this way we obtain a {\em tensor network}.
We characterize which functions on $T$-diagrams are traces, and show that each trace comes from a unique `strongly nondegenerate' tensor representation. The theorem applies to virtual knot diagrams, chord diagrams, and group representations.

We introduce a partition of (coweight) lattice points inside the dilated fundamental parallelepiped into those of partially closed simplices. This partition can be considered as a generalization and a lattice points interpretation of the classical formula of Worpitzky.
This partition, and the generalized Eulerian polynomial, recently introduced by Lam and Postnikov, can be used to describe the characteristic (quasi)polynomials of Shi and Linial arrangements. As an application, we prove that the characteristic quasi-polynomial of the Shi arrangement turns out to be a polynomial. We also present several results on the location of zeros of characteristic polynomials, related to a conjecture of Postnikov and Stanley. In particular, we verify the "functional equation" of the characteristic polynomial of the Linial arrangement for any root system, and give partial affirmative results on "Riemann hypothesis" for the root systems of type $E_6, E_7, E_8$, and $F_4$.

Bourgain and Yehudayoff recently constructed $O(1)$-monotone bipartite expanders. By combining this result with a generalisation of the unraveling method of Kannan, we construct 3-monotone bipartite expanders, which is best possible. We then show that the same graphs admit 3-page book embeddings, 2-queue layouts, 4-track layouts, and have simple thickness 2. All these results are best possible.
On triangle-free graphs of order 10 with prescribed 1-defective chromatic number
A graph is (m, k)-colourable if its vertices can be coloured with m colours such that the maximum degree of any subgraph induced on ver- tices receiving the same colour is at most k. The k-defective chromatic number for a graph is the least positive integer m for which the graph is (m, k)-colourable. All triangle-free graphs on 8 or fewer vertices are (2, 1)-colourable. There are exactly four triangle-free graphs of order 9 which have 1-defective chromatic number 3. We show that these four graphs appear as subgraphs in almost all triangle-free graphs of order 10 with 1-defective chromatic number equal to 3. In fact there is a unique triangle-free (3, 1)-critical graph on 10 vertices and we exhibit this graph.
On minimal triangle-free planar graphs with prescribed 1-defective chromatic number
A graph is (m,k)-colourable if its vertices can be coloured with m colours such that the maximum degree of the subgraph induced on the set of all vertices receiving the same colour is at most k. The k-defective chromatic number $χ_k(G)$ is the least positive integer $m$ for which graph G is (m,k)-colourable. Let f(m,k;tfp) be the smallest order of a triangle-free planar graph such that $χ_k(G)$=m. In this paper we show that f(3,1;tfp)=11.

A generalized vertex join of a graph is obtained by joining an arbitrary multiset of its vertices to a new vertex. We present a low-order polynomial time algorithm for finding the chromatic polynomials of generalized vertex joins of trees, and by duality we find the flow polynomials of arbitrary outerplanar graphs. We also present closed formulas for the chromatic and flow polynomials of vertex joins of cliques and cycles, otherwise known as "generalized wheel" graphs.
Perfect state transfer in products and covers of graphs

A continuous-time quantum walk on a graph $X$ is represented by the complex matrix $\exp (-\mathrm{i} t A)$, where $A$ is the adjacency matrix of $X$ and $t$ is a non-negative time. If the graph models a network of interacting qubits, transfer of state among such qubits throughout time can be formalized as the action of the continuous-time quantum walk operator in the characteristic vectors of the vertices.
Here we are concerned with the problem of determining which graphs admit a perfect transfer of state. More specifically, we will study graphs whose adjacency matrix is a sum of tensor products of $01$-matrices, focusing on the case where a graph is the tensor product of two other graphs. As a result, we will construct many new examples of perfect state transfer.
Spectrally extremal vertices, strong cospectrality and state transfer

In order to obtain perfect state transfer between two sites in a network of interacting qubits, their corresponding vertices in the underlying graph must satisfy a combinatorial property called strong cospectrality. Here we determine the structure of graphs containing pairs of vertices which are strongly cospectral and satisfy a certain extremal property related to the spectrum of the graph. If the graph satisfies this property globally and is regular, we also show that the existence of a partition of the vertex set into pairs of vertices at maximum distance admitting perfect state transfer forces the graph to be distance-regular.

In this paper, we study a distribution of labeled particles on a continuous ring. It arises in three different ways, all related to the multi-type TASEP on a ring. We prove formulas for the probability density function for some permutations and give conjectures for a larger class. We give a complete conjecture for the probability of two particles i, j being next to each other on the cycle, for which we prove some cases. We also find that two natural events associated to the process have exactly the same probability expressed as a Vandermonde determinant. It is unclear whether this is just a coincidence or a consequence of a deeper connection.
Peckness of Edge Posets

For any graded poset $P$, we define a new graded poset, $\mathcal E(P)$, whose elements are the edges in the Hasse diagram of P. For any group, $G$, acting on the boolean algebra, $B_n$, we conjecture that $\mathcal E(B_n/G)$ is Peck. We prove that the conjecture holds for "common cover transitive" actions. We give some infinite families of common cover transitive actions and show that the common cover transitive actions are closed under direct and semidirect products.

The long-standing topological Tverberg conjecture claimed, for any continuous map from the boundary of an $N(q,d):=(q-1)(d+1)$-simplex to $d$-dimensional Euclidian space, the existence of $q$ pairwise disjoint subfaces whose images have non-empty $q$-fold intersection. The affine cases, true for all $q$, constitute Tverberg's famous 1966 generalization of the classical Radon's Theorem. Although established for all prime powers in 1987 by Özaydin, counterexamples to the conjecture, relying on 2014 work of Mabillard and Wagner, were first shown to exist for all non-prime-powers in 2015 by Frick. Starting with a reformulation of the topological Tverberg conjecture in terms of harmonic analysis on finite groups, we show that despite the failure of the conjecture, continuous maps \textit{below} the tight dimension $N(q,d)$ are nonetheless guaranteed $q$ pairwise disjoint subfaces -- including when $q$ is not a prime power -- which satisfy a variety of "average value" coincidences, the latter obtained as the vanishing of prescribed Fourier transforms.
Singular Values Distribution of Squares of Elliptic Random Matrices and Type B Narayana Polynomials

We consider Gaussian elliptic random matrices $X$ of a size $N \times N$ with parameter $ρ$, i.e., matrices whose pairs of entries $(X_{ij}, X_{ji})$ are mutually independent Gaussian vectors, $E X_{ij} = 0$, $E X^2_{ij} = 1$ and $E X_{ij} X_{ji} = ρ$. We are interested in the asymptotic distribution of eigenvalues of the matrix $W =\frac{1}{N^2} X^2 X^{*2}$. We have shown that this distribution is defined by its moments and we provide a recurrent relation for these moments. We have proven that the (symmetrized) asymptotic distribution is determined by its free cumulants, which are Narayana polynomials of type B: $$c_{2n} = \sum_{k=0}^n \binom{n}{k}^2 ρ^{2k}.$$
On the adjacency dimension of graphs

A generator of a metric space is a set $S$ of points in the space with the property that every point of the space is uniquely determined by its distances from the elements of $S$. Given a simple graph $G=(V,E)$, we define the distance function $d_{G,2}:V\times V\rightarrow \mathbb{N}\cup \{0\}$, as $d_{G,2}(x,y)=\min\{d_G(x,y),2\},$ where $d_G(x,y)$ is the length of a shortest path between $x$ and $y$ and $\mathbb{N}$ is the set of positive integers. Then $(V,d_{G,2 })$ is a metric space. We say that a set $S\subseteq V$ is a $k$-adjacency generator for $G$ if for every two vertices $x,y\in V$, there exist at least $k$ vertices $w_1,w_2,...,w_k\in S$ such that $$d_{G,2}(x,w_i)\ne d_{G,2}(y,w_i),\; \mbox{for every}\; i\in \{1,...,k\}.$$ A minimum cardinality $k$-adjacency generator is called a $k$-adjacency basis of $G$ and its cardinality, the $k$-adjacency dimension of $G$.
In this article we study the problem of finding the $k$-adjacency dimension of a graph. We give some necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of a $k$-adjacency basis of an arbitrary graph $G$ and we obtain general results on the $k$-adjacency dimension, including general bounds and closed formulae for some families of graphs. In particular, we obtain closed formulae for the $k$-adjacency dimension of join graphs $G+H$ in terms of the $k$-adjacency dimension of $G$ and $H$. These results concern the $k$-metric dimension, as join graphs have diameter two. As we can expect, the obtained results will become important tools for the study of the $k$-metric dimension of lexicographic product graphs and corona product graphs.

Parabolic $R$-polynomials were introduced by Deodhar as parabolic analogues of ordinary $R$-polynomials defined by Kazhdan and Lusztig. In this paper, we are concerned with the computation of parabolic $R$-polynomials for the symmetric group. Let $S_n$ be the symmetric group on $\{1,2,\ldots,n\}$, and let $S=\{s_i\,|\, 1\leq i\leq n-1\}$ be the generating set of $S_n$, where for $1\leq i\leq n-1$, $s_i$ is the adjacent transposition. For a subset $J\subseteq S$, let $(S_n)_J$ be the parabolic subgroup generated by $J$, and let $(S_n)^{J}$ be the set of minimal coset representatives for $S_n/(S_n)_J$. For $u\leq v\in (S_n)^J$ in the Bruhat order and $x\in \{q,-1\}$, let $R_{u,v}^{J,x}(q)$ denote the parabolic $R$-polynomial indexed by $u$ and $v$. Brenti found a formula for $R_{u,v}^{J,x}(q)$ when $J=S\setminus\{s_i\}$, and obtained an expression for $R_{u,v}^{J,x}(q)$ when $J=S\setminus\{s_{i-1},s_i\}$. We introduce a statistic on pairs of permutations in $(S_n)^J$ for $J=S\setminus\{s_{i-2},s_{i-1},s_i\}$. Then we give a formula for $R_{u,v}^{J,x}(q)$, where $J=S\setminus\{s_{i-2},s_{i-1},s_i\}$ and $i$ appears after $i-1$ in $v$. We also pose a conjecture for $R_{u,v}^{J,x}(q)$, where $J=S\setminus\{s_{k},s_{k+1},\ldots,s_i\}$ with $1\leq k\leq i\leq n-1$ and the elements $k+1,k+2,\ldots, i$ appear in increasing order in $v$.
The f-Chromatic Index of Claw-free Graphs Whose f-Core is 2-regular
Let $G$ be a graph and $f:V(G)\rightarrow \mathbb{N}$ be a function. An $f$-coloring of a graph $G$ is an edge coloring such that each color appears at each vertex $v\in V(G)$ at most $f (v)$ times. The minimum number of colors needed to $f$-color $G$ is called the $f$-chromatic index of $G$ and is denoted by $χ'_{f}(G)$. It was shown that for every graph $G$, $Δ_{f}(G)\le χ'_{f}(G)\le Δ_{f}(G)+1$, where $Δ_{f}(G)=\max_{v\in V(G)} \lceil \frac{d_G(v)}{f(v)} \rceil$. A graph $G$ is said to be $f$-Class $1$ if $χ'_{f}(G)=Δ_{f}(G)$, and $f$-Class $2$, otherwise. Also, $G_{Δ_f}$ is the induced subgraph of $G$ on $\{v\in V(G):\,\frac{d_G(v)}{f(v)}=Δ_{f}(G)\}$. In this paper, we show that if $G$ is a connected graph with $Δ(G_{Δ_f})\leq 2$ and $G$ has an edge cut of size at most $Δ_f(G) -2$ which is a matching or a star, then $G$ is $f$-Class $1$. Also, we prove that if $G$ is a connected graph and every connected component of $G_{Δ_f}$ is a unicyclic graph or a tree and $G_{Δ_f}$ is not $2$-regular, then $G$ is $f$-Class $1$. Moreover, we show that except one graph, every connected claw-free graph $G$ whose $f$-core is $2$-regular with a vertex $v$ such that $f(v)\neq 1$ is $f$-Class $1$.
On the Griesmer bound for nonlinear codes
Most bounds on the size of codes hold for any code, whether linear or nonlinear. Notably, the Griesmer bound, holds only in the linear case. In this paper we characterize a family of systematic nonlinear codes for which the Griesmer bound holds. Moreover, we show that the Griesmer bound does not necessarily hold for a systematic code by showing explicit counterexamples. On the other hand, we are also able to provide (weaker) versions of the Griesmer bound holding for all systematic codes.
