The (r1,...,rp)-Bell polynomials
In a previous paper, Mihoubi et al. introduced the $(r_{1},...,r_{p}) $-Stirling numbers and the $(r_{1},...,r_{p}) $-Bell polynomials and gave some of their combinatorial and algebraic properties. These numbers and polynomials generalize, respectively, the $r$-Stirling numbers of the second kind introduced by Broder and the $r$-Bell polynomials introduced by Mező. In this paper, we prove that the $(r_{1},...,r_{p}) $-Stirling numbers of the second kind are log-concave. We also give generating functions and generalized recurrences related to the $(r_{1},...,r_{p}) $-Bell polynomials.

Let $S$ be a subset of the cyclic group $\Z_n$. The cyclic Haar graph $H(\Z_n,S)$ is the bipartite graph with color classes $\Z_n^+$ and $\Z_n^-,$ and edges $\{x^+,y^-\},$ where $x,y \in \Z_n$ and $y - x \in S$. In this paper we give sufficient and necessary conditions for the isomorphism of two connected cyclic Haar graphs of valency 4.

We partition in classes the set of matroids of fixed dimension on a fixed vertex set. In each class we identify two special matroids, respectively with minimal and maximal h-vector in that class. Such extremal matroids also satisfy a long-standing conjecture of Stanley. As a byproduct of this theory we establish Stanley's conjecture in various cases, for example the case of Cohen-Macaulay type less than or equal to 3.

A subgroup H of an algebraic group G is said to be strongly solvable if H is contained in a Borel subgroup of G. This paper is devoted to establishing relationships between the following three combinatorial classifications of strongly solvable spherical subgroups in reductive complex algebraic groups: Luna's general classification of arbitrary spherical subgroups restricted to the strongly solvable case, Luna's 1993 classification of strongly solvable wonderful subgroups, and the author's 2011 classification of strongly solvable spherical subgroups. We give a detailed presentation of all the three classifications and exhibit interrelations between the corresponding combinatorial invariants, which enables one to pass from one of these classifications to any other.
Two constructions relating to conjectures of Beck on positional games
In this paper, we construct two hypergraphs which exhibit the following properties. We first construct a hypergraph $G_{CP}$ and show that Breaker wins the Maker-Breaker game on $G_{CP}$, but Chooser wins the Chooser-Picker game on $G_{CP}$. This disproves an (informally stated) conjecture of Beck. Our second construction relates to Beck's Neighbourhood Conjecture, which (in its weakest form) states that there exists $c > 1$ such that Breaker wins the Maker-Breaker game on any $n$-uniform hypergraph $G$ of maximum degree at most $c^n$. We consider the case n=4 and construct a 4-graph $G_4$ with maximum vertex degree 3, such that Maker wins the Maker-Breaker game on $G_4$. This answers a question of Leader.
Large infinite antichains of permutations
Infinite antichains of permutations have long been used to construct interesting permutation classes and counterexamples. We prove the existence and detail the construction of infinite antichains with arbitrarily large growth rates. As a consequence, we show that every proper permutation class is contained in a class with a rational generating function. While this result implies the conclusion of the Marcus-Tardos theorem, that theorem is used in our proof.
Lectures on integrable probability
These are lecture notes for a mini-course given at the St. Petersburg School in Probability and Statistical Physics in June 2012. Topics include integrable models of random growth, determinantal point processes, Schur processes and Markov dynamics on them, Macdonald processes and their application to asymptotics of directed polymers in random media.
Expanding Polynomials over the rationals
Let $F(x,y)$ be a polynomial over the rationals. We show that if $F$ is not an expander (over the rationals) then it has a special multiplicative or additive form. For example if $F$ is a homogeneous non-expander polynomial then $F(x,y)=c(x+ay)^α$ or $F(x,y)=c(xy)^α.$ This is an extension of an earlier result of Elekes and Rónyai who described the structure of two-variate polynomials which are not expanders over the reals.

A zero-sum sequence of integers is a sequence of nonzero terms that sum to 0. Let $k>0$ be an integer and let $[-k,k]$ denote the set of all nonzero integers between $-k$ and $k$. Let $\ell(k)$ be the smallest integer $\ell$ such that any zero-sum sequence with elements from $[-k,k]$ and length greater than $\ell$ contains a proper nonempty zero-sum subsequence. In this paper, we prove a more general result which implies that $\ell(k)=2k-1$ for $k>1$.

An alternating permutation of length $n$ is a permutation $π=π_1 π_2 ... π_n$ such that $π_1 < π_2 > π_3 < π_4 > ...$. Let $A_n$ denote set of alternating permutations of ${1,2,..., n}$, and let $A_n(σ)$ be set of alternating permutations in $A_n$ that avoid a pattern $σ$. Recently, Lewis used generating trees to enumerate $A_{2n}(1234)$, $A_{2n}(2143)$ and $A_{2n+1}(2143)$, and he posed several conjectures on the Wilf-equivalence of alternating permutations avoiding certain patterns. Some of these conjectures have been proved by Bóna, Xu and Yan. In this paper, we prove the two relations $|A_{2n+1}(1243)|=|A_{2n+1}(2143)|$ and $|A_{2n}(4312)|=|A_{2n}(1234)|$ as conjectured by Lewis.
A Universal upper bound on Graph Diameter based on Laplacian Eigenvalues
We prove that the diameter of any unweighted connected graph G is O(k log n/lambda_k), for any k>= 2. Here, lambda_k is the k smallest eigenvalue of the normalized laplacian of G. This solves a problem posed by Gil Kalai.
Distinguished three-qubit 'magicity' via automorphisms of the split Cayley hexagon

Disregarding the identity, the remaining 63 elements of the generalized three-qubit Pauli group are found to contain 12096 distinct copies of Mermin's magic pentagram. Remarkably, 12096 is also the number of automorphisms of the smallest split Cayley hexagon. We give a few solid arguments showing that this may not be a mere coincidence. These arguments are mainly tied to the structure of certain types of geometric hyperplanes of the hexagon. It is further demonstrated that also an (18_{2}, 12_{3})-type of magic configurations, recently proposed by Waegell and Aravind (J. Phys. A: Math. Theor. 45 (2012) 405301), seems to be intricately linked with automorphisms of the hexagon. Finally, the entanglement properties exhibited by edges of both pentagrams and these particular Waegell-Aravind configurations are addressed.
Transformations Integer Sequences And Pairing Functions
We propose several procedures for creating new families of integer sequences based on the method of Cantor diagonalization. Then we modify and generalize this method. The paper includes explicit formulas for most proposed families of integer sequences.

We construct a family of pairwise commuting operators such that the Jack symmetric functions of infinitely many variables $x_1,x_2,...$ are their eigenfunctions. These operators are defined as limits at $N\to\infty$ of renormalised Sekiguchi-Debiard operators acting on symmetric polynomials in the variables $x_1,...,x_N$. They are differential operators in terms of the power sum variables $p_n=x_1^n+x_2^n+...$ and we compute their symbols by using the Jack reproducing kernel. Our result yields a hierarchy of commuting Hamiltonians for the quantum Calogero-Sutherland model with infinite number of bosonic particles in terms of the collective variables of the model. Our result also yields explicit shift operators for the Jack symmetric functions.

We construct a family of pairwise commuting operators such that the Macdonald symmetric functions of infinitely many variables $x_1,x_2,...$ and of two parameters $q,t$ are their eigenfunctions. These operators are defined as limits at $N\to\infty$ of renormalised Macdonald operators acting on symmetric polynomials in the variables $x_1,...,x_N$. They are differential operators in terms of the power sum variables $p_n=x_1^n+x_2^n+...$ and we compute their symbols by using the Macdonald reproducing kernel. We express these symbols in terms of the Hall-Littlewood symmetric functions of the variables $x_1,x_2,...$. Our result also yields elementary step operators for the Macdonald symmetric functions.
On Lagrangians of r-uniform Hypergraphs

A remarkable connection between the order of a maximum clique and the Lagrangian of a graph was established by Motzkin and Straus in [7]. This connection and its extensions were successfully employed in optimization to provide heuristics for the maximum clique number in graphs. It has been also applied in spectral graph theory. Estimating the Lagrangians of hypergraphs has been successfully applied in the course of studying the Turan densities of several hypergraphs as well. It is useful in practice if Motzkin-Straus type results hold for hypergraphs. However, the obvious generalization of Motzkin and Straus' result to hypergraphs is false. We attempt to explore the relationship between the Lagrangian of a hypergraph and the order of its maximum cliques for hypergraphs when the number of edges is in certain range. In this paper, we give some Motzkin-Straus type results for r-uniform hypergraphs. These results generalize and refine a result of Talbot in [19] and a result in [11].
Ramanujan and Eckford Cohen totients from Visible Point Identities
We define an extension of the Ramanujan trigonometric function to arbitrary dimensions, and give the Dirichlet series generating function. The extension was first given by Eckford Cohen long ago. This links directly to visible point vector identities, and possibly to lattice sums in Physics and Chemistry presented by Baake et al. New generating functions and summations are given here, generalizing the Ramanujan function, Euler totient and the Jordan totient functions, based on visible lattice point ideas.

We discuss properties of root posets for finite crystallographic root systems, and show that these properties uniquely determine root posets for the noncrystallographic dihedral types and type $H_3$, while proving that there does not exist a poset satisfying all of the properties in type $H_4$. We do this by exhaustive computer searches for posets having these properties. We further give a realization of the poset of type $H_3$ as restricted roots of type $D_6$, and conjecture a Hilbert polynomial for the $q,t$-Catalan numbers for type $H_4$.
Hopf algebra of building sets

The combinatorial Hopf algebra on building sets $BSet$ extends the chromatic Hopf algebra of simple graphs. The image of a building set under canonical morphism to quasi-symmetric functions is the chromatic symmetric function of the corresponding hypergraph. By passing from graphs to building sets, we construct a sequence of symmetric functions associated to a graph. From the generalized Dehn-Sommerville relations for the Hopf algebra $BSet$, we define a class of building sets called eulerian and show that eulerian building sets satisfy Bayer-Billera relations. We show the existence of the $\mathbf{c}\mathbf{d}-$index, the polynomial in two noncommutative variables associated to an eulerian building set. The complete characterization of eulerian building sets is given in terms of combinatorics of intersection posets of antichains of finite sets.
Causal cells: spacetime polytopes with null hyperfaces

We consider polyhedra and 4-polytopes in Minkowski spacetime - in particular, null polyhedra with zero volume, and 4-polytopes that have such polyhedra as their hyperfaces. We present the basic properties of several classes of null-faced 4-polytopes: 4-simplices, "tetrahedral diamonds" and 4-parallelotopes. We propose a "most regular" representative of each class. The most-regular parallelotope is of particular interest: its edges, faces and hyperfaces are all congruent, and it features both null hyperplanes and null segments. A tiling of spacetime with copies of this polytope can be viewed alternatively as a lattice with null edges, such that each point is at the intersection of four lightrays in a tetrahedral pattern. We speculate on the relevance of this construct for discretizations of curved spacetime and for quantum gravity.
