Matchings and shape-Wilf-Equivalence of sets of patterns of length three I: Triples
Permutation pattern avoidance on Ferrers boards has become a central topic in enumerative combinatorics with important connections to matchings, set partitions, and other combinatorial structures as it allows one to build families of Wilf-equivalent patterns. While shape-Wilf-equivalence classes have been completely determined for individual patterns and pairs of patterns of length three, the corresponding classification for larger pattern sets has remained open. In this paper, we provide a complete classification of the shape-Wilf-equivalence classes of triples of patterns of length three. Our proofs use a bijective encoding of pattern avoiding transversals to establish all equivalence classes. As an application, we enumerate matchings avoiding triples of patterns of length three for all but two equivalence classes, extending previous results of Bloom and Elizalde. These enumerative results identify additional families of combinatorial objects counted by the Fuss-Catalan numbers and by other integer sequences appearing in the OEIS.

Avoiding patterns with three distinct letters in Canon permutations
We study avoidance of patterns of length $3$ with three distinct letters in canon permutations. We reduce the problem to studying pattern avoidance in lattice words and show that there are $6$ such pattern avoiding classes. This shows that there are $12$ classes for the original Canon permutation pattern avoidance problem. We also give descent refinements for these classes and classify the patterns for which the descent enumeration gives palindromic and $γ$-positive polynomials. When the polynomials are $γ$-positive, we explain the $γ$-positivity through a group action analogous to Foata-Strehl valley hopping. Additionally, we study the avoidance of patterns in the relabelling orbit of $1213, 12112, 1231$ after a conjecture about their cardinalities by Laudone and give bijective proofs for the results.
Caged subsequences in permutations
Given a sequence $\mathfrak{a}:=(a_1,\ldots,a_n)$ of reals, a subsequence $\mathfrak{b}=(a_{i_1},\ldots,a_{i_k})$ is said to be "caged" if the largest and smallest among the members of $\mathfrak{b}$ are $a_{i_1}$ and $a_{i_k}$, though not necessarily in that order. In this paper, we consider the problem of maximal caged sequences in permutations $π\in S_n$. We also consider the same problem for a random permutation, both when the permutation is chosen uniformly at random and also when it is picked uniformly at random from among the permutations of rectangular shape, via the RSK correspondence.

Oddtown and eventown theorems for lattice paths
For North-East lattice paths (which we simply call lattice paths), we define intersection in terms of common edges. We prove that a family of paths from $(0,0)$ to $(n,n)$ in which every two distinct paths have an even number of common edges has size at most $2^n$, and that this bound is attained. If $M_{\mathrm{odd}}(n)$ denotes the maximum size of a family in which every two distinct paths have an odd number of common edges, then we prove \[ M_{\mathrm{odd}}(n)\le n(n-1)+1 \] and construct families showing that $M_{\mathrm{odd}}(n)=Θ(n^2)$. Finally, we construct at least $C_n$ distinct extremal even-intersecting families, where $C_n$ is the $n$th Catalan number, and conjecture that these are all the extremal families.

An insertion process and a parity based equidistribution
A conjecture by Deutsch, Kitaev, and Remmel states that the triples of permutation statistics $(S_{10}, S_{12}, S_{17})$ and $(S_{12}, S_{10} ,S_{17})$ are equidistributed over the symmetric group $\mathfrak{S}_n$. Here, $S_{10}$ enumerates descents with odd descent tops, $S_{12}$ enumerates odd-odd adjacent pairs, and $S_{17}$ records the largest integer $i$ such that $1, 2, \dots, i$ appear in left-to-right order. In this note, we resolve this conjecture affirmatively by providing a bijective proof. We introduce an insertion process that constructs a recursive involution on $\mathfrak{S}_n$ that swaps $S_{10}$ and $S_{12}$ while keeping $S_{17}$ unchanged.
Ordinal and disjoint sums of partially ordered patterns
Partially ordered patterns (POPs) generalize the classical notion of permutation patterns within the framework of pattern avoidance. Building on recent work by Burstein, Han, Kitaev, and Zhang, which introduced the concept of shape-Wilf-equivalence of sets of patterns, we develop the notions of \emph{ordinal} and \emph{disjoint sums} of labeled posets. This framework enables us to reinterpret their main result as an ordinal sum analogue of the classical theorem by Backelin, West, and Xin. We establish analogous results for disjoint sums of POPs and further extend their results to prove Wilf-equivalence for classes of POPs that include isolated vertices. In particular, we prove the shape-Wilf-equivalence of the sets of patterns $\{123, 213, 312\}$ and $\{132, 231, 321\}$. Our proof strategy involves a bijection that filters through an encoding scheme for the transversals avoiding these patterns. We use these results to completely classify the partially ordered patterns of size $3,4,5$ whose connected components are all chains. This classification also confirms a conjecture posed by Dimitrov at the problem session of the British Combinatorics Conference 2024 (BCC30).

Log-concavity of rows of triangular arrays satisfying a certain super-recurrence
Recurrences of the form \begin{equation*} T(n,k) = (αn+βk +γ) \ T(n-1,k) + (α'n+β'k+γ')\ T(n-1,k-1)+δ_{n,0}δ_{k,0}. \end{equation*} show up as the recurrence for many well-studied combinatorial sequences such as the Stirling numbers of first and second kind, the Lah numbers, Eulerian numbers etc. Recently, many of these sequences have received generalisations that obey a recurrence of the form \begin{equation*} T(n,k) = (αn+βk +γ)^l \ T(n-1,k) + (α'n+β'k+γ')^l\ T(n-1,k-1)+δ_{n,0}δ_{k,0}. \end{equation*} where $l$ is a positive integer. Many of these generalised sequences also satisfy properties such as unimodality, log-concavity, gamma-nonnegativity, real-rootedness that the original sequences satisfy. In this article, we give sufficient conditions for rows of triangular arrays, arising from the recurrence stated above, to be log-concave. We show that our sufficient condition is satisfied by many of the classical examples, thereby giving a new unified approach to proving their log-concavity. This sufficient condition also confirms a conjecture of Tankosic about the log-concavity of generalised Lah numbers. Our main technique will be to interpret the triangular array $(T(n,k))$ as weighted lattice paths and produce an injection that is increasing in weight. Finally, we introduce a two-parameter generalisation of the Eulerian numbers analogous to the generalised Stirling and Lah counterparts. We prove that this sequence is palindromic and make some remarks about their gamma-nonnegativity and real-rootedness.
A descent-excedance correspondence in colored permutation groups
It is well known that descents and excedances are equidistributed in the symmetric group. We show that the descent and excedance enumerators, summed over permutations with a fixed first letter are identical when we perform a simple change of the first letter. We generalize this to type B and other colored permutation groups. We are led to defining descents and excedances through linear orders. With respect to a particular order, when the number of colors is even, we get a result that generalizes the type B results. Lastly, we get a type B counterpart of Conger's result which refines the well known Carlitz identity.

Synchronicity of descent and excedance enumerators in the alternating subgroup
Generalising the work of Dey, we define the notion of ultra-synchronicity of sequences of real numbers. Let $B_{n,k},C_{n,k},P_{n,k},Q_{n,k}$ be the number of even permutations with $k$ descents, odd permutations with $k$ descents, even permutations with $k$ excedances and odd permutations with $k$ excedances respectively. We show that the four sequences are ultra-synchronised for all $n\ge 5$. This proves a strengthening of two conjectures of Dey.

Two bijections in the spirit of the transformation fondamentale
In this short paper, we give bijective proofs of two recent equidistribution results connecting cyclic and linear statistics in the spirit of the Foata's ``transformation fondamentale''.
Canonical reduced words and signed descent length enumeration in Coxeter groups
Reifegerste and independently, Petersen and Tenner studied a statistic $\mathrm{drops}()$ on permutations in $\mathfrak{S}_n$. Two other studied statistics on $\mathfrak{S}_n$ are $\mathrm{depth}$ and $\mathrm{exc}$. Using descents in ${\it canonical\ reduced\ words}$ of elements in $\mathfrak{S}_n$, we give an involution $f_A: \mathfrak{S}_n \mapsto \mathfrak{S}_n$ that leads to a neat formula for the signed trivariate enumerator of $\mathrm{drops},\mathrm{depth}, \mathrm{exc}$ in $\mathfrak{S}_n$. This gives a simple formula for the signed univariate drops enumerator in $\mathfrak{S}_n$. For the type-B Coxeter group $\mathfrak{B}_n$ as well, using similar techniques, we show analogous results. For the type D Coxeter group, we again get analogous results, but our proof is inductive. Under the famous Foata-Zeilberger bijection $φ_{FZ}$ which takes permutations to restricted Laguerre histories, we show that permutations $π$ and $f_A(π)$ map to the same Motzkin path, but have different history components. Using the Foata-Zeilberger bijection, we also get a continued fraction for the generating function enumerating the pair of statistics $\mathrm{drops}$ and $\mathrm{MAD}$. Graham and Diaconis determined the mean and the variance of the Spearman metric of disarray $D(π)$ when one samples $π$ from $\mathfrak{S}_n$ at random. As an application of our results, we get the mean and variance of the statistic $\mathrm{drops}(π)$ when we sample $π$ from $\mathcal{A}_n$ at random.

Enumeration of flattened $k$-Stirling permutations with respect to descents
A $k$-Stirling permutation of order $n$ is said to be "flattened" if the leading terms of its increasing runs are in ascending order. We show that flattened $k$-Stirling permutations of order $n+1$ are in bijection correspondence with a colored variant of type $B$ set partitions of $[-n,n]$, introduced by D.G.L. Wang. Using the theory of weighted labelled structures, we give the exponential generating functions of their cardinality and their descent enumerating polynomials. We also provide enumerative formulae for the number of flattened $k$-Stirling permutations of order $n$ with small number of descents and the number of flattened Stirling permutations with maximum number of descents.
$q$-enumeration of type B and D Eulerian polynomials based on parity of descents

Carlitz and Scoville in 1973 considered a four variable polynomial that enumerates permutations in $\mathfrak{S}_n$ with respect to the parity of its descents and ascents. In recent work, Pan and Zeng proved a $q$-analogue of Carlitz-Scoville's generating function by enumerating permutations with the above four statistice along with the inversion number. Further, they also proved a type B analogue by enumerating signed permutations with respect to the parity of descents and ascents. In this work we prove a $q$-analogue of the type B result of Pan and Zeng by enumerating permutations in $\mathfrak{B}_n$ with the above four statistics and the type B inversion number. We also obtain a $q$-analogue of the generating function for the type B bivariate alternating descent polynomials. We consider a similar five-variable polynomial in the type D Coxeter groups as well and give their egf. Alternating descents for the type D groups were previously also defined by Remmel, but our definition is slightly different. As a by-product of our proofs, we get bivariate $q$-analogues of Hyatt's recurrences for the type B and type D Eulerian polynomials. Further corollaries of our results are some symmetry relations for these polynomials and $q$-analogues of generating functions for snakes of types B and D.
