Enumeration of general planar hypermaps with an alternating boundary
In this paper, we extend the enumerative study of planar hypermaps with an alternating boundary introduced in an earlier work of Bouttier and the second author. In that article, an explicit rational parametrization was obtained for the associated generating function in the case of m-constellations, using a variant of the kernel method. We develop here a new strategy to obtain an algebraic equation in the general case, which includes maps decorated by the Ising model, through a classical many-to-one correspondence. One of the main steps of our strategy is the simultaneous elimination of two catalytic variables. We then apply this strategy to the case of Ising quadrangulations, where we obtain an explicit rational parametrization. As a consequence, we show that some notable properties of the constellations case are no longer satisfied in general.
On the critical fugacity of the hard-core model on regular bipartite graphs
We establish long-range order for the hard-core model on a finite, regular bipartite graph above a threshold fugacity given in terms of expansion parameters of the graph. The result applies to the $d$-dimensional hypercube graph and, more generally, to $d$-dimensional discrete tori of fixed side length, proving long-range order at fugacities $λ\geΩ(\frac{\log d}{d})$. Furthermore, we use reflection positivity to transfer the result to the lattice $\mathbb{Z}^{d}$, verifying the long-standing belief that its critical fugacity is of the form $d^{-1+o(1)}$ as $d\to\infty$.
Landau Analysis in the Grassmannian
Momentum twistors for scattering amplitudes in particle physics are lines in three-space. We develop Landau analysis for Feynman integrals in this setting. The resulting discriminants and resultants are identified with Hurwitz and Chow forms of incidence varieties in products of Grassmannians. We study their degrees and factorizations, and the kinematic regimes in which the fibers of the Landau map are rational or real. Identifying this map with the amplituhedron map on positroid varieties, and the associated recursions with promotion maps, yields a geometric mechanism for the emergence of positivity and cluster structures in planar N=4 super Yang-Mills theory.
Decay of correlations and zeros for the hard-core model
In a recent paper the last author proved that absence of complex zeros of the partition function of the hard-core model near a parameter $λ>0$ implies a form of correlation decay called strong spacial mixing. In this paper we investigate the reverse implication. We introduce a strengthening of strong spatial mixing that we call very strong spatial mixing (VSSM).
Our main result is that if VSSM holds at a parameter $λ>0$ for a family of graphs, this implies that the partition function has no zeros near that parameter for each graph in the family. We also demonstrate that a closely related variant of very strong spatial mixing does not imply zero-freeness. As a consequence of our main result, we moreover obtain that VSSM implies spectral independence. Our proof relies on transforming the problem to the analysis of an induced non-autonomous dynamical system given by Möbius transformations.
On uniform large genus asymptotics of Witten's intersection numbers
Following ideas from [14], we give a uniform large genus asymptotics for primitive psi-class intersection numbers on the moduli space of stable algebraic curves, and extend this result including insertions of zeros in a certain uniform way. Application to a particular formal solution of the Painlevé I equation is given. We also use a method from [14] to give a new proof of the polynomiality conjecture on large genus asymptotic expansions of psi-class intersection numbers.
On aggregation-quantization permutability problem for discrete-time Markov chains
Given random walk on a graph, the corresponding discrete-time quantum walk can be constructed using the method proposed by Szegedy. On the other hand, given a partition of the set of states of a Markov chain, one can study the corresponding aggregated process. We extend the aggregation technique to the level of quantum Markov chains. We provide conditions under which application of these two operations - Szegedy's quantization and aggregation - give the same result. In particular, we show that the conditions are satisfied in the case of the random walk on graphs equipped with equitable partitions. We present several examples, which include the classical/quantum walks on Platonic solids. We discuss also relation of discrete-time classical/quantum walks on $N$-dimensional hypercube and the Ehrenfests urn model with $N$ particles. We apply our technique for of discrete-time walks on Cayley graphs of free groups. We also compare our results with those obtained using Cantero-Moral-Velazquez uniformization of unitary matrices.
Maximal green sequences for quantum and Poisson CGL extensions
We prove that the quantum and classical cluster algebras for all members of the axiomatically defined classes of symmetric quantum and Poisson Cauchon-Goodearl-Letzter extensions possess maximal green sequences in the sense of Keller. Previously, maximal green sequences were constructed for explicit families of cluster algebras; many of those can be recovered from the general result for CGL extensions.
Iterated Graph Systems (I): random walks and diffusion limits
This paper investigates random walks and diffusion limits on a broad class of fractal graphs generated by Edge Iterated Graph Systems (EIGS). We study random walks on combinatorial limit graphs and establish the connections among several dimensions, including the Einstein relation. Building on this, we prove that the rescaled simple random walks converge in the Gromov-Hausdorff-Prokhorov-Skorokhod topology to the limiting diffusion, which further coincides with Brownian motion when the resistance dimension is positive. Moreover, we use the degree dimension to unify the on-diagonal heat-kernel estimates in the locally finite and locally infinite (scale-free) regimes. Finally, we solve the open problem on the quenched resistance exponent for the DHL percolation cluster left in [27].
On large genus asymptotics of certain Hurwitz numbers
In this paper, based on the value of central character on the transposition, we find structure and large genus asymptotics of certain Hurwitz numbers.
Upper bound of some character ratios and large genus asymptotic behavior of Hurwitz numbers
In [14] we found the large genus asymptotics of Hurwitz numbers for the Riemann sphere with a fixed number of general profiles and some (2,1^{d-2}) profiles. In this paper, motivated from [3], we generalize these results to Hurwitz numbers of an arbitrary compact Riemann surface with a fixed number of general profiles and some (r,1^{d-r}) profiles.
Low order maximally single-trace graphs as the first counterexamples to large N factorization in random tensors
We give the first and lowest order examples of 3-regular 3-edge-colored graphs that demonstrate the non-factorization of tensor model invariants in the large N limit of Gaussian random tensors, as proven on general grounds in [Gurau R., Joos F. and Sudakov B., Lett. Math. Phys., 115 (2025), arXiv:2506.15362 [math-ph]]. This non-factorization is in stark contrast to the well-known large N factorization for random matrices.
A tale of two volumes of moduli spaces: Weil-Petersson and Masur-Veech
Weil-Petersson and Masur-Veech volumes measure the sizes of moduli spaces of Riemann surfaces equipped with hyperbolic and flat metrics, respectively. Over the past several decades, the computation of these volumes has inspired remarkable developments in combinatorial enumeration, intersection theory, and recursion relations. In this survey, we review key results, methods, open problems, as well as interesting parallels that emerge in the approaches to computing both types of volumes.
Failing to keep the balance: explicit formulae and topological recursion for leaky Hurwitz numbers
Recently a new family of enumerative invariants called leaky Hurwitz numbers was introduced by Cavalieri-Markwig-Ranganathan in the context of logarithmic intersection theory. They admit an interpretation via tropical covers where the balancing condition fails. We employ tropical geometry to prove a generalisation of the piecewise polynomiality of Accadia-Karev-Lewanski for leaky completed cycles Hurwitz numbers, and a different wall crossing that is cubic instead of quadratic. Using tropical combinatorics and generatingfunctionology, we also find closed formulae for one-part and two-part completed cycles leaky Hurwitz numbers in genus $0$. Working more generally with a view towards topological recursion, we use Hamiltonian flows to associate spectral curves to very general cut-and-join operators. Under mild analytic constraints, we find the appropriate spectral curves, and in case the leakiness is fixed, we show that the resulting enumerative invariants satisfy topological recursion. This provides a partial inverse to recent work of Alexandrov-Bychkov-Dunin-Barkowski-Kazarian-Shadrin producing differentials satisfying topological recursion for KP $τ$-functions. In particular these results specialise to completed cycles leaky Hurwitz numbers.
On cosmological polytopes, their canonical forms and their duals
We compute the canonical form of the cosmological polytope for any graph in terms of the dual of the shifted cosmological polytope in two different ways. On the way, we provide an explicit coordinate description of the dual of the cosmological polytope. Moreover, we construct two triangulations of the dual cosmological polytope in terms of maximal and almost maximal tubings of the underlying graph. Though the existence of the first triangulation was already suggested by Arkani-Hamed, Benincasa and Postnikov, the second is completely new and, in particular, gives rise to a new expression of the canonical form of the cosmological polytope.
The Gaussian Wave for Graphs of Finite Cone Type
We show that for any infinite tree of finite cone type satisfying a mild expansion condition, the only typical process on its vertices with covariance induced by the Green's function is the Gaussian wave. This generalizes a result of Backhausz and Szegedy, who proved this for the infinite regular tree of degree $d\geq 3$. We do this by giving a reduction to a statement concerning the distribution of the inner product of our process with columns of the Green's function, which in turn are straightforward to calculate.
As a consequence, for random bipartite biregular graphs, the distribution of local neighborhoods of eigenvectors must approximate the Gaussian wave. Moreover, for generic configuration models including random lifts, the local distribution of a uniformly chosen eigenvector from any arbitrarily small spectral window likewise converges to the Gaussian wave.
An exactly solvable evaporation-deposition PCA with long-distance interactions
We consider a probabilistic cellular automaton (PCA) of evaporation-deposition on the one-dimensional lattice having $n$ sites with periodic boundary conditions, in which each site, during each epoch, can be in one of two states: $0$ and $1$. Fix a positive integer $m\geqslant 2$. There are two types of transitions at each discrete time, which are as follows: (i) the first site in every contiguous block of $m$ $0$s becomes a $1$ with probability $p_1$, and (ii) the first site in every contiguous block of $(m-1)$ $0$s followed immediately by a $1$ also becomes a $1$ with probability $(1-p_2)$. As in a PCA, all of these transitions occur simultaneously. We show that the resulting discrete-time Markov chain is ergodic, and we give an explicit formula for its limiting distribution, the partition function and the density. We also propose necessary and sufficient conditions for this Markov chain to be reversible. For $m=2$, we provide a fully analytical expression for the free energy of this model.
Aldous-type Spectral Gaps in Unitary Groups
Aldous' spectral gap conjecture, proven by Caputo, Liggett and Richthammer, states the following: for any set of transpositions in the symmetric group $\mathrm{Sym}(n)$, the spectral gap of the corresponding random walk on the group -- an $n!$-state process -- coincides with that of the corresponding random walk of a single element -- an $n$-state process.
This paper presents an analog of this conjecture in the unitary group $\mathrm{U}(n)$, and proves it in several non-trivial cases. The phenomenon we discover is that for some natural families of probability distributions on $\mathrm{U}(n)$, the spectral gap of the corresponding random walk, which has a continuous state space, is identical to that of a discrete KMP process (also known as the uniform reshuffling process) with two indistinguishable particles on a hypergraph on $n$ vertices -- a discrete Markov chain with $\binom{n+1}{2}$ states.
Kazhdan-Lusztig bases of parabolic Hecke algebras and applications to Schur-Weyl duality
With an eye to applications to type A and Schur-Weyl duality, we study Kazhdan-Lusztig bases for a general parabolic Hecke algebra. Parabolic Hecke algebras are idempotent subalgebras of Hecke algebras corresponding to parabolic subgroups, and for type A they coincide with the fused Hecke algebras appearing in a generalisation of the Schur-Weyl duality with the quantum group of GL(N). In this paper we investigate two different Kazhdan-Lusztig bases for parabolic Hecke algebras, together with the associated cells and the corresponding representations. We quickly specialise to type A, for which we describe the cells in terms of the RSK correspondence generalising thus the well-known description for the symmetric group. As a first application we recover the classification of irreducible representations of parabolic Hecke algebras of type A and provide a new construction of these representations. Next we turn to the Schur-Weyl duality and describe the kernel in terms of one the basis studied precedently. Moreover, we formulate some conjectures about a generator of these kernels in terms of Kazhdan-Lusztig basis elements, give some evidence and prove these conjectures in some special cases.
Polytopes of alternating sign matrices with dihedral-subgroup symmetry
We investigate the convex hulls of the eight dihedral symmetry classes of $n \times n$ alternating sign matrices, i.e., ASMs invariant under a subgroup of the symmetry group of the square. Extending the prefix-sum description of the ASM polytope, we develop a uniform core--assembly framework: each symmetry class is encoded by a set of core positions and an affine assembly map that reconstructs the full matrix from its core. This reduction transfers polyhedral questions to lower-dimensional core polytopes, which are better suited to the tool set of polyhedral combinatorics, while retaining complete information about the original symmetry class. For the vertical, vertical--horizontal, half-turn, diagonal, diagonal--antidiagonal, and total symmetry classes, we give explicit polynomial-size linear inequality descriptions of the associated polytopes. In these cases, we also determine the dimension and provide facet descriptions. The quarter-turn symmetry class behaves differently: the natural relaxation admits fractional vertices, and we need to extend the system with a structured family of parity-type Chvátal--Gomory inequalities to obtain the quarter-turn symmetric ASM polytope. Our framework leads to efficient algorithms for computing minimum-cost ASMs in each symmetry class and provides a direct link between the combinatorics of symmetric ASMs and tools from polyhedral combinatorics and combinatorial optimization.
Multispecies inhomogeneous $t$-PushTASEP with general capacity
We study an $n$-species $t$-PushTASEP, an integrable long-range stochastic process, on a one-dimensional periodic lattice with inhomogeneities $x_1,\ldots,x_L$ and arbitrary capacity $l$ at each lattice site. The Markov matrix is identified with an alternating sum of commuting transfer matrices over all fundamental representations of $U_t(\widehat{sl}_{n+1})$. Stationary probabilities are expressed in a matrix product form involving a fusion of quantized corner transfer matrices for the strange five-vertex model introduced by Okado, Scrimshaw, and the second author. The resulting partition function, which serves as the normalization factor of the stationary probabilities, is obtained from the $l=1$ case by a finite plethystic substitution of length $l$.
