Cyclotomic skew partial difference sets and partial difference families
Skew partial difference sets (skew PDSs) are recently-introduced combinatorial objects closely related to partial difference sets (PDSs). To date, only one construction approach for non-trivial skew PDSs is known, using bent partitions: this produces examples of Latin square type. In this paper we show that these examples are not an isolated phenomenon; we present new constructions for families of skew PDSs using cyclotomy in finite fields. We provide the first constructions for skew PDSs of Paley type, and new constructions for Latin square type (with different parameters to those from bent partitions). Moreover, we show how skew PDSs relate to disjoint and external partial difference families (DPDFs/EPDFs), and provide new cyclotomic constructions of both standard and relative DPDFs and EPDFs.
The geometry of rank-metric codes
In this paper, we develop a geometric framework for matrix rank-metric codes based on generator tensors and their slice spaces. To every nondegenerate matrix rank-metric code, we associate two systems, which translate metric properties of the code into geometric conditions involving intersections with hyperplanes. This leads to a correspondence between equivalence classes of nondegenerate matrix rank-metric codes and equivalence classes of systems, as well as to Delsarte-type incidence identities relating the rank distribution of a code over a finite field to those of its associated systems. As an application, we introduce generalized weights through the notion of evasive systems, study faithful and one-weight codes over finite fields, and recover known bounds and results from the theory of semifields. Finally, we use this framework to associate additive Hamming-metric codes with matrix rank-metric codes and show that several metric properties are preserved under this correspondence.

Divisibility of Trace Codes
A linear code is said to be $Δ$-divisible if the Hamming weights of all its codewords are divisible by $Δ$. The $p$-adic valuation of a code is defined as the greatest integer $t$ such that the code is $p^t$-divisible. In this paper, we establish a divisibility criterion for trace codes. Specifically, this criterion provides a systematic method to determine the $p$-adic valuation of the associated trace code, thereby extending Ward's classical divisibility criterion from standard generating sets (or matrices) to generalized generator matrices over an extension field. Furthermore, we present two applications of our framework. The first application provides a concise proof of the celebrated divisibility results on abelian codes established by Delsarte and McEliece. The second application establishes several explicit lower bounds on the $p$-adic valuation of the number of solutions over $\mathbb{F}_{q^m}$ (where $q = p^e$) to the Artin-Schreier type equation $ f(x_1,\ldots,x_k)=y^q-y $. In particular, under the condition $\left(d,\frac{q^m-1}{q-1}\right)=1$, we determine the exact minimum $p$-adic valuation of the number of solutions when $f$ is restricted to homogeneous polynomials of degree $d$.
A categorification of Kauffman states for planar graphs
Given a decorated planar graph $(G,ω)$, where $G$ is a planar graph and $ω\in H^1(|\mathcal{Q}G|,\mathbb{Z})$ with $\mathcal{Q}G$ the directed medial graph of $G$, we call some angular functions $ω$-compatible and study two distinct but related directed graphs: $\mathcal{L}(G,ω)$, which is the directed graph of such functions, and $BMS(G,ω)$, the directed graph of BMS states which are some pairs of $ω$-compatible functions plus additional data. We give sufficient conditions for $\mathcal{L}(G,ω)$ to be a graded distributive lattice, recovering Kauffman's Clock Theorem when $G$ is a knot diagram. We also define a potential on $\mathcal{Q} G$ and associate a representation of the corresponding quiver with potential to every BMS state. Under suitable assumptions, this construction yields an isomorphism between $\mathcal{L}(G,ω)$ and the lattice of subrepresentations of a maximal representation, generalizing a result of Bazier-Matte--Schiffler.

Subarrangements of type A: the weak Lefschetz property of the Artinian Orlik-Terao algebra
In 1994, Orlik and Terao introduced a commutative Artinian analog S/I(A) of the Orlik-Solomon algebra of a hyperplane arrangement A to answer a question of Aomoto. A central topic of investigation in the study of Artinian algebras is the Weak Lefschetz Property (WLP). We analyze WLP for the Artinian Orlik-Terao algebra of graphc arrangements. Even for chordal graphs (which give rise to Koszul algebras) WLP sometimes fails; conversely an analysis of the state polytope shows WLP can hold even when WLP fails for all possible initial ideals. More generally, for any algebra with a tensor product decomposition, we construct canonical elements in the kernel of the multiplication map, refining previous results in the literature.

Moments for generalizations of a coin flip game
We derive a recursive formula for the moments of the number of flips using a possibly biased coin to produce a prescribed finite binary string $S$ when $S$ is either a run of heads or a run of heads followed by a tails. Our recursive formula involve certain sums, which we simplify by using a one-parameter extension of the well-studied Eulerian number, which belongs to the two-parameter family of numbers introduced by Graham, Knuth, and Patashnik. We also use the Goulden--Jackson cluster method and Faà di Bruno's formula to establish a closed formula for the moments in a more general situation where a die having an arbitrary number of faces with possibly different probabilities is rolled repeatedly until a prescribed finite word occurs.

A lifting partition theorem for tropical tritangent classes to smooth space sextic curves
The set of tritangent planes to smooth tropical space sextic curves has 15 connected components, recording continuous displacements of planes preserving the tritangency condition. These 15 tritangent classes are polyhedral complexes in $\mathbf{R}^3$, and each of them contains the tropicalization of precisely eight tritangent planes to any smooth space sextic curve with the given tropicalization. Prior joint work of the authors with Len confirms that each tropical tritangent plane has 0, 1, 2, 4 or 8 lifts to classical tritangent planes defined over the algebraic closure of the field over which the original algebraic curve is defined. Our main theorem states that when the input classical curve is generic, then only six out of the ten possible partitions of 8 into powers of 2 arise from lifting multiplicities of tritangent classes. Furthermore, we show that these partitions are completely determined by the dimension of a suitable connected subcomplex of the class and the existence of a member with a tropical tangency of a predetermined combinatorial type.
Locally Semi-Equitable Colourings of BIBDs
We study $\ell$-colourings of $(v,k,λ)$-BIBDs (balanced incomplete block designs) where, within each block, one colour is absent and each of the $\ell-1$ other colours appears exactly $\frac{k}{\ell-1}$ times. We establish several necessary conditions for such colourings to exist. We also use these coloured BIBDs to provide new necessary conditions for the existence of Hadamard matrices, affine planes, and twin prime powers.

Haiman's Conjecture and Springer's Representations
For any connected complex reductive group $G$ and element $z$ of its Weyl group $W$, we use work of Lusztig and Abreu-Nigro to compute the graded $W$-character of the intersection cohomology of any closed Lusztig variety for $z$ over the regular semisimple locus of $G$. We relate the resulting formula to unipotent Lusztig varieties, giving a new geometric model for unicellular LLT polynomials. We then consider Laurent polynomials $α_{ψ, G}^z$ indexed by irreducible characters $ψ$, encoding how our formula decomposes into ungraded characters arising from the Springer theory of $G$. From evidence in low rank, we conjecture that if $ψ$ is inflated from type $A$ in a particular way, then the nonzero coefficients of $α_{ψ, G}^z$ are positive and unimodal. This offers an answer to a 1993 question of Haiman about generalizing a conjecture he posed for symmetric groups. We also prove that the matrix formed by the $α_{ψ, G}^z$ is partially triangular, and that their positivity and unimodality properties are stable under inclusions of Levi subgroups.

Hypercube geodesics with few colour changes
What is the maximum, over all 2-colourings of the edges of the $n$-dimensional hypercube $Q_n$, of the minimal number of times a path between a vertex $v$ and its antipode $\bar{v}$ changes colour? A conjecture of Norine, in a form due to Feder and Subi, states that this maximum should be 1. The previous best-known upper bound on the number of colour changes was $(\tfrac{3}{8} + o(1))n$ due to Dvořák. We improve this bound and answer a question of Leader and Long by finding a geodesic path with at most $(\tfracπ{2} + o(1))\sqrt{n}$ colour changes. In fact, we show that this is the expected number of colour changes for a uniformly random start vertex. This is optimal (up to the constant) when the start vertex is chosen uniformly at random.

Max-tree for d-permutations and pattern avoidance
Higher dimensional permutations are tuples of d-1 permutations that can be identified with a point set in a d-dimensional grid. In N. Bonichon and P.-J. Morel, {\it J. Integer Sequences} 25 (2022), several conjectures regarding the enumeration of pattern avoiding d-permutations were stated. In this paper, we consider a mapping from d-permutations to $2^{d-1}-$ary trees that naturally generalizes the classical max-tree construction for permutations. We then show that, when restricted to d-permutations avoiding (21,12) and 231, this mapping yields a bijection with d-ary trees. This result resolves one of the conjectures of Bonichon and Morel.
Super-linear Lower Bounds for CSP Non-Redundancy via Shrinking Instances
The non-redundancy (NRD) of a constraint satisfaction problem (CSP) is a combinatorial quantity closely tied to the behavior of CSPs in various computational models including their sparsification, kernelization, and streaming complexity. A primary open question in the study of non-redundancy is the identification of which CSP predicates have near-linear NRD. Recent works by Carbonnel [CP 2022], Khanna, Putterman and Sudan [STOC 2025], Brakensiek and Guruswami [STOC 2025] and Brakensiek, Guruswami, Jansen, Lagerkvist, and Wahlström [2025] have introduced various forms of gadget reductions between CSPs to relate their non-redundancy. The primary contribution of this work is to recontextualize many of these gadget reductions in a framework which we call hypergraph projections. By studying a quantity we call the shrinking factor of these hypergraph projections, we can more precisely predict when a gadget reduction between predicates can yield a super-linear NRD lower bound, greatly improving on the analysis of previous works. To illustrate the power of our framework, we identify some concrete CSP predicates whose non-redundancy is at the cusp of our understanding and show how our methods give lower bounds that could not have been achieved with these previous methods. We also demonstrate how these gadget reductions can be automatically deduced using SAT solvers, thereby opening up novel computational avenues for discovering further relationships between the non-redundancy of various CSPs.

Limit Profiles for Separation Distance
This paper studies limit profiles for the separation distance. A limit profile records the limiting shape of the distance to stationarity inside the cutoff window, at times of the form $t_n+cw_n$. We start with two famous card shuffles, a general setup for inverse riffle shuffles and random transpositions, and we determine their separation distance limit profiles. We then develop a spectral comparison technique and study continuity properties in the style of [Nes24; Nes25], adapted to separation distance. The comparison method is illustrated through random transpositions, as well as random walks on product groups and the hypercube.

A Note on the Asymptotic Least Density of Covering Codes in $[q]^n$
In this short note we revisit the upper bound of the asymptotic least density of covering codes of radius $R$ in $[q]^n$ established by Krivelevich, Sudakov, and Vu. We show that by using a slightly different optimization in their core theorem we can obtain a constant factor improvement to their upper bound.

Limit Laws for Consensus Protocols on the Complete Graph
We study a distributed consensus problem on a complete communication network of $n$ vertices, each holding one of two opinions. The vertices communicate in rounds, possibly in the presence of adversarial noise, and exchange information until they all agree on a single opinion. We consider a general class of protocols, where the vertices randomly sample neighbors and update their own opinion according to an update function $f$ depending on the sampled opinions. A prominent example is the $k$-maj protocol, where every vertex adopts the majority opinion of $k$ randomly sampled neighbors. We consider the runtime $R_n$ that is the number of rounds until all vertices agree on the same opinion, which we call the dominating opinion $D_n$. In our main result we describe the limiting distributions of these two key quantities for a large class of update functions $f$, for arbitrary initial configurations and under the presence of an adversary who may alter the opinions of up to $o(\sqrt{n})$ vertices in each round. We show that there are $f$-specific constants $γ, m > 0$ such that $R_n$ centers around $μ_n = \frac{1}{2}\log_γn + \log_m\ln n$, and we describe the asymptotic distribution of $R_n - μ_n$. In particular, we show that it does not converge, and that it becomes asymptotically periodic both in the $\log n$ as well as the $\log\log n$ scale. Applied to $k$-maj, our results show, among other things, that $γ_{k\text{-maj}} = \binom{k-1}{\lfloor k/2 \rfloor}2^{1-k}k \sim ({2k}/π)^{1/2}$.

On the Failure of the Upper Bound in the Refined BMV Conjecture and a Pinching Correction
We analyze why the refined Bessis--Moussa--Villani conjecture fails. The refined conjecture proposed that the normalized trace average over all words with prescribed numbers of letters \(A\) and \(B\) should be bounded above by the clustered word \(\Tr(A^nB^m)\). Recent counterexamples of Cha show that this upper bound is false already for \(3\times3\) positive semidefinite matrices when \(n=m=5\). We explain the failure from the viewpoint of commutative common parts. The term \(\Tr(A^nB^m)\) is not the canonical common part of the pair \((A,B)\); it is only one clustered word. After pinching \(B\) relative to \(A\), the natural commuting contribution is \(\A_{n,m}(A,\EA(B))\). The off-diagonal complement \(B-\EA(B)\) creates spectral bridges, and mixed words can distribute the powers of \(A\) along closed cycles more efficiently than the clustered word. This gives a mechanism for finding counterexamples. Motivated by this mechanism, we propose a corrected pinching refinement \[ \A_{n,m}(A,B)\ge \A_{n,m}(A,\EA(B)). \] We prove this corrected conjecture in the case of two letters \(B\), obtaining a sandwich refinement \[ \A_{n,2}(A,\EA(B)) \le \A_{n,2}(A,B) \le \Tr(A^nB^2). \] Thus, even where the old clustered upper bound remains true, the pinching viewpoint gives a sharper structural decomposition.
An introduction to equitable DP coloring of graphs
A proper $k$-coloring of vertices of an $n$-vertex graph is equitable if the size of every color class is $\lfloor n/k\rfloor$ or $\lceil n/k\rceil$. An extension of it to list coloring requires only that the size of every color class is at most $\lceil n/k\rceil$. Such colorings have interesting applications and have been actively studied recently. In this paper, we extend the notion of equitable coloring to the more general notion of equitable DP coloring and study properties of the new parameter.

Recursive structures of molecules and cells in Gelfand $S_n$-graphs
$W$-graphs, representing the multiplication action of the standard basis on the canonical basis in the Iwahori-Hecke algebra are introduced by Kazhdan and Lusztig. Marberg defined a generalized $W$-graph, the Gelfand W-graph, corresponding to the Hecke algebra modules instead of Hecke algebras. To classify the molecules and cells of the Gelfand $S_n$-graphs, in this paper, we introduce a recursive structure of $S_n$ and then discuss the action of the recursive structure on the molecules. Using this struction, we show that a specific molecule is indeed a cell.

On Zero-Divisor Graph of the Ring $\frac{\mathbb{F}_p[u, v]}{\langle u^2,\, v^2, \, uv-vu\rangle}$
In this article, we study the zero-divisor graph of the commutative non-chain ring with identity $ \mathbb{F}_p + u\mathbb{F}_p + v\mathbb{F}_p + uv\mathbb{F}_p,$ where \(u^2 = 0\), \(v^2 = 0\), \(uv = vu\), and \(p\) is an odd prime. We determine several graph-theoretic properties of the associated zero-divisor graph \(Γ(R)\), including clique number, chromatic number, vertex connectivity, edge connectivity, diameter, and girth. In addition, we compute certain topological indices of \(Γ(R)\). Furthermore, we obtain the eigenvalues, energy, and spectral radius of the adjacency matrix, the Laplacian matrix and the Eccentricity matrix of \(Γ(R)\).

Thrall's problem for two rows
In this paper, we study Thrall's problem for the higher Lie modules $L_λ$. Our main result provides a tableau-theoretic description of the Schur expansion of the character of $L_λ$ when $λ$ has two rows, thereby solving Thrall's problem in this case. This formula is expressed in terms of standard Young tableaux with major index congruence conditions and a spin-parity condition defined through bijections with Yamanouchi domino tableaux. We also obtain tableau formulas for hook shapes and partitions with distinct parts, and these results extend to all partitions in which each part greater than $2$ occurs at most twice.
