Thrall's problem for two rows
In this paper, we study Thrall's problem for the higher Lie modules $L_λ$. Our main result provides a tableau-theoretic description of the Schur expansion of the character of $L_λ$ when $λ$ has two rows, thereby solving Thrall's problem in this case. This formula is expressed in terms of standard Young tableaux with major index congruence conditions and a spin-parity condition defined through bijections with Yamanouchi domino tableaux. We also obtain tableau formulas for hook shapes and partitions with distinct parts, and these results extend to all partitions in which each part greater than $2$ occurs at most twice.
Hall--Littlewood expansions of chromatic quasisymmetric polynomials using linked rook placements
In this work, we obtain a Hall--Littlewood expansion of the chromatic quasisymmetric function arising from a natural unit interval order and describe the coefficients in terms of linked rook placements. Applying the Carlsson--Mellit relation between chromatic quasisymmetric functions and unicellular LLT polynomials, we also obtain a combinatorial description for the coefficients of the unicellular LLT polynomials expanded in terms of the modified transformed Hall--Littlewood polynomials.
$α$-chromatic symmetric functions
In this paper, we introduce the \emph{$α$-chromatic symmetric functions} $χ^{(α)}_π[X;q]$, extending Shareshian and Wachs' chromatic symmetric functions with an additional real parameter $α$. We present positive combinatorial formulas with explicit interpretations. Notably, we show an explicit monomial expansion in terms of the $α$-binomial basis and an expansion into certain chromatic symmetric functions in terms of the $α$-falling factorial basis. Among various connections with other subjects, we highlight a significant link to $q$-rook theory, including a new solution to the $q$-hit problem posed by Garsia and Remmel in their 1986 paper introducing $q$-rook polynomials.
Lattice paths and negatively indexed weight-dependent binomial coefficients
In 1992, Loeb considered a natural extension of the binomial coefficients to negative entries and gave a combinatorial interpretation in terms of hybrid sets. He showed that many of the fundamental properties of binomial coefficients continue to hold in this extended setting. Recently, Formichella and Straub showed that these results can be extended to the $q$-binomial coefficients with arbitrary integer values and extended the work of Loeb further by examining arithmetic properties of the $q$-binomial coefficients. In this paper, we give an alternative combinatorial interpretation in terms of lattice paths and consider an extension of the more general weight-dependent binomial coefficients, first defined by the second author, to arbitrary integer values. Remarkably, many of the results of Loeb, Formichella and Straub continue to hold in the general weighted setting. We also examine important special cases of the weight-dependent binomial coefficients, including ordinary, $q$- and elliptic binomial coefficients as well as elementary and complete homogeneous symmetric functions.
Elliptic solutions of dynamical Lucas sequences

We study two types of dynamical extensions of Lucas sequences and give elliptic solutions for them. The first type concerns a level-dependent (or discrete time-dependent) version involving commuting variables. We show that a nice solution for this system is given by elliptic numbers. The second type involves a non-commutative version of Lucas sequences which defines the non-commutative (or abstract) Fibonacci polynomials introduced by Johann Cigler. If the non-commuting variables are specialized to be elliptic-commuting variables the abstract Fibonacci polynomials become non-commutative elliptic Fibonacci polynomials. Some properties we derive for these include their explicit expansion in terms of normalized monomials and a non-commutative elliptic Euler--Cassini identity.

In the literature there are several determinant formulas for Schur functions: the Jacobi-Trudi formula, the dual Jacobi-Trudi formula, the Giambelli formula, the Lascoux-Pragacz formula, and the Hamel-Goulden formula, where the Hamel-Goulden formula implies the others. In this paper we use an identity proved by Bazin in 1851 to derive determinant identities involving Macdonald's 9th variation of Schur functions. As an application we prove a determinant identity for factorial Schur functions conjectured by Morales, Pak, and Panova. We also obtain a generalization of the Hamel-Goulden formula, which contains a result of Jin, and prove a converse of the Hamel-Goulden theorem and its generalization.

A standard barely set-valued tableau of shape $λ$ is a filling of the Young diagram $λ$ with integers $1,2,\dots,|λ|+1$ such that the integers are increasing in each row and column, and every cell contains one integer except one cell that contains two integers. Counting standard barely set-valued tableaux is closely related to the coincidental down-degree expectations (CDE) of lower intervals in Young's lattice. Using $q$-integral techniques we give a formula for the number of standard barely set-valued tableaux of arbitrary shifted shape. We show how it can be used to recover two formulas, originally conjectured by Reiner, Tenner and Yong, and proved by Hopkins, for numbers of standard barely set valued tableaux of particular shifted-balanced shapes. We also prove a conjecture of Reiner, Tenner and Yong on the CDE property of the shifted shape $(n,n-2,n-4,\dots,n-2k+2)$. Finally, in the Appendix we raise a conjecture on an $\mathsf a;q$-analogue of the down-degree expectation with respect to the uniform distribution for a specific class of lower order ideals of Young's lattice.
Melting lollipop chromatic quasisymmetric functions and Schur expansion of unicellular LLT polynomials

In this work, we generalize and utilize the linear relations of LLT polynomials introduced by Lee \cite{Lee}. By using the fact that the chromatic quasisymmetric functions and the unicellular LLT polynomials are related via plethystic substitution and thus they satisfy the same linear relations, we can apply the linear relations to both sets of functions.
As a result, in the chromatic quasisymmetric function side, we find a class of $e$-positive graphs, called \emph{melting lollipop graphs}, and explicitly prove the $e$-unimodality. In the unicellular LLT side, we obtain Schur expansion formulas for LLT polynomials corresponding to certain set of graphs, namely, complete graphs, path graphs, lollipop graphs and melting lollipop graphs.
Product formulas for certain skew tableaux

The hook length formula gives a product formula for the number of standard Young tableaux of a partition shape. The number of standard Young tableaux of a skew shape does not always have a product formula. However, for some special skew shapes, there is a product formula. Recently, Morales, Pak and Panova joint with Krattenthaler conjectured a product formula for the number of standard Young tableaux of shape $λ/μ$ for $λ=((2a+c)^{c+a},(a+c)^a)$ and $μ=(a+1,a^{a-1},1)$. They also conjectured a product formula for the number of standard Young tableaux of a certain skew shifted shape. In this paper we prove their conjectures using Selberg-type integrals. We also give a generalization of MacMahon's box theorem and a product formula for the trace generating function for a certain skew shape, which is a generalization of a recent result of Morales, Pak and Panova.
Exploring a Delta Schur Conjecture

In \cite{HRW15}, Haglund, Remmel, Wilson state a conjecture which predicts a purely combinatorial way of obtaining the symmetric function $Δ_{e_k}e_n$. It is called the Delta Conjecture. It was recently proved in \cite{GHRY} that the Delta Conjecture is true when either $q=0$ or $t=0$. In this paper we complete a work initiated by Remmel whose initial aim was to explore the symmetric function $Δ_{s_ν} e_n$ by the same methods developed in \cite{GHRY}. Our first need here is a method for constructing a symmetric function that may be viewed as a "combinatorial side" for the symmetric function $Δ_{s_ν} e_n$ for $t=0$. Based on what was discovered in \cite{GHRY} we conjectured such a construction mechanism. We prove here that in the case that $ν=(m-k,1^k)$ with $1\le m< n$ the equality of the two sides can be established by the same methods used in \cite{GHRY}. While this work was in progress, we learned that Rhodes and Shimozono had previously constructed also such a "combinatorial side". Very recently, Jim Haglund was able to prove that their conjecture follows from the results in \cite{GHRY}. We show here that an appropriate modification of the Haglund arguments proves that the polynomial $Δ_{s_ν}e_n$ as well as the Rhoades-Shimozono "combinatorial side" have a plethystic evaluation with hook Schur function expansion.
Reverse plane partitions of skew staircase shapes and $q$-Euler numbers

Recently, Naruse discovered a hook length formula for the number of standard Young tableaux of a skew shape. Morales, Pak and Panova found two $q$-analogs of Naruse's hook length formula over semistandard Young tableaux (SSYTs) and reverse plane partitions (RPPs). As an application of their formula, they expressed certain $q$-Euler numbers, which are generating functions for SSYTs and RPPs of a zigzag border strip, in terms of weighted Dyck paths. They found a determinantal formula for the generating function for SSYTs of a skew staircase shape and proposed two conjectures related to RPPs of the same shape. One conjecture is a determinantal formula for the number of \emph{pleasant diagrams} in terms of Schröder paths and the other conjecture is a determinantal formula for the generating function for RPPs of a skew staircase shape in terms of $q$-Euler numbers.
In this paper, we show that the results of Morales, Pak and Panova on the $q$-Euler numbers can be derived from previously known results due to Prodinger by manipulating continued fractions. These $q$-Euler numbers are naturally expressed as generating functions for alternating permutations with certain statistics involving \emph{maj}. It has been proved by Huber and Yee that these $q$-Euler numbers are generating functions for alternating permutations with certain statistics involving \emph{inv}. By modifying Foata's bijection we construct a bijection on alternating permutations which sends the statistics involving \emph{maj} to the statistic involving \emph{inv}. We also prove the aforementioned two conjectures of Morales, Pak and Panova.

In [The Delta Conjecture, Trans. Amer. Math. Soc., to appear] Haglund, Remmel, Wilson introduce a conjecture which gives a combinatorial prediction for the result of applying a certain operator to an elementary symmetric function. This operator, defined in terms of its action on the modified Macdonald basis, has played a role in work of Garsia and Haiman on diagonal harmonics, the Hilbert scheme, and Macdonald polynomials [A. M. Garsia and M. Haiman. A remarkable $q,t$-Catalan sequence and $q$-Lagrange inversion, J. Algebraic Combin. 5 (1996), 191--244], [M. Haiman, Vanishing theorems and character formulas for the Hilbert scheme of points in the plane, Invent. Math. 149 (2002), 371-407]. The Delta Conjecture involves two parameters $q,t$; in this article we give the first proof that the Delta Conjecture is true when $q=0$ or $t=0$.

The hook length formula for $d$-complete posets states that the $P$-partition generating function for them is given by a product in terms of hook lengths. We give a new proof of the hook length formula using $q$-integrals. The proof is done by a case-by-case analysis consisting of two steps. First, we express the $P$-partition generating function for each case as a $q$-integral and then we evaluate the $q$-integrals. Several $q$-integrals are evaluated using partial fraction expansion identities and others are verified by computer.

We derive combinatorial identities for variables satisfying specific systems of commutation relations, in particular elliptic commutation relations. The identities thus obtained extend corresponding ones for $q$-commuting variables $x$ and $y$ satisfying $yx=qxy$. In particular, we obtain weight-dependent binomial theorems, functional equations for generalized exponential functions, we derive results for an elliptic derivative of elliptic commuting variables, and finally study weight-dependent extensions of the Weyl algebra which we connect to rook theory.

We construct elliptic extensions of the alpha-parameter rook model introduced by Goldman and Haglund and of the rook model for matchings of Haglund and Remmel. In particular, we extend the product formulas of these models to the elliptic setting. By specializing the parameter alpha in our elliptic extension of the alpha-parameter model and the shape of the Ferrers board in different ways, we obtain elliptic analogues of the Stirling numbers of the first kind and of the Abel polynomials, and obtain an a,q-analogue of the matching numbers. We further generalize the rook theory model for matchings by introducing l-lazy graphs which correspond to l-shifted boards, where l is a finite vector of positive integers. The corresponding elliptic product formula generalizes Haglund and Remmel's product formula for matchings already in the non-elliptic basic case.

We use elliptic Taylor series expansions and interpolation to deduce a number of summations for elliptic hypergeometric series. We extend to the well-poised elliptic case results that in the $q$-case have previously been obtained by Cooper and by Ismail and Stanton. We also provide identities involving S. Bhargava's cubic theta functions.

Rook theory has been investigated by many people since its introduction by Kaplansky and Riordan in 1946. Goldman, Joichi and White in 1975 showed that the sum over $k$ of the product of the $(n-k)$-th rook numbers multiplied by the $k$-th falling factorial polynomials factorize into a product. In the sequel, different types of generalizations and analogues of this product formula have been derived by various authors. In 2008, Miceli and Remmel constructed a rook theory model involving augmented rook boards in which they showed the validity of a general product formula which can be specialized to all other product formulas that so far have appeared in the literature on rook theory. In this work, we construct an elliptic extension of the $q$-analogue of Miceli and Remmel's result. Special cases yield elliptic extensions of various known rook theory models.

Utilizing elliptic weights, we construct an elliptic analogue of rook numbers for Ferrers boards. Our elliptic rook numbers generalize Garsia and Remmel's q-rook numbers by two additional independent parameters a and b, and a nome p. These are shown to satisfy an elliptic extension of a factorization theorem which in the classical case was established by Goldman, Joichi and White and later was extended to the q-case by Garsia and Remmel. We obtain similar results for our elliptic analogues of Garsia and Remmel's q-file numbers for skyline boards. We also provide an elliptic extension of the j-attacking model introduced by Remmel and Wachs. Various applications of our results include elliptic analogues of (generalized) Stirling numbers of the first and second kind, Lah numbers, Abel numbers, and r-restricted versions thereof.
