Posets for Specht ideals of essential real reflection groups
Specht ideals are symmetric ideals in the polynomial ring generated by Specht polynomials associated with group representations. These ideals were previously studied for reflection groups of types $A$ and $B$, where their inclusion relations and their varieties reflect rich combinatorial structures. In this paper, we extend this theory to type $D$ and the dihedral groups. Our results complete the combinatorial study of Specht ideals across all infinite families of essential real reflection groups.
Groups represented by incidence geometries
The aim of this paper is to use the framework of incidence geometry to develop a theory that permits to model both the inner and outer automorphisms of a group G simultaneously. More precisely, to any group G, we attempt to associate an incidence system whose group of type-preserving automorphisms is Inn(G), the group of inner automorphisms of G, and whose full group of automorphisms is the group Out(G) of outer automorphisms of G, getting what we call an incidence geometric representation theory for groups. Hence, in this setting, the group Inn(G) preserves the types of the associated incidence structure while the group Out(G) is acting non-trivially on the typeset of it, realizing the outer automorphisms of G as correlations. We give examples of incidence geometric representations for the dihedral groups, the symmetric groups, the automorphism groups of the five platonic solids, families of classical groups defined over fields such as the projective linear groups, and finally subgroups of free groups whose outer automorphism group is the largest finite subgroup of their automorphism group.
Sperner's colorings of hypergraphs arising from edgewise triangulations
We investigate Sperner's labelings of $H^π_{k,q}$, the hypergraph whose hyperedges are facets of the edgewise triangulation of a $(k-1)$-simplex defined by a permutation $π\in \mathbb{S}_{k-1}$. Mirzakhani and Vondr\' ak showed that the greedy coloring of $H^{\mathrm{Id}}_{k,q}$ produces the maximal number of monochromatic hyperedges. The line graph of $H_{k,q}^π$ is built from the copies of the graph $G_π$ that represents which subsets of consecutive numbers of $[k-1]$ are contiguous in $π$. We characterize these graphs in terms of dissections a regular $k$-gon and also show how they encode the adjacency relation between a hypersimplex and the facets of its alcoved triangulation. The natural action of the dihedral group $D_k$ on a regular $k$-gon and graphs $G_π$ extends on the group of permutations $\mathbb S_{k-1}$. Independent sets of the graphs $G_π$ of the permutations that are not invariant under the rotation are used to define a class of Sperner's colorings that produce more monochromatic hyperedges then the greedy colorings. This colorings are also optimal for a certain permutations.
Perfect codes in quartic Cayley graphs of generalized dihedral groups
For a graph $Γ=(VΓ,EΓ)$, a subset $D$ of $VΓ$ is a perfect code in $Γ$ if every vertex of $Γ$ is dominated by exactly one vertex in $D$. In this paper, we classify all connected quartic Cayley graphs on generalized dihedral groups admitting a perfect code, and determine all perfect codes in such graphs.
Regular 3-polytopes of type $\{n,n\}$
For each integer \( n \geq 3 \), we construct a self-dual regular 3-polytope \( \mathcal{P} \) of type \( \{n, n\} \) with \( 2^n n \) flags, resolving two foundamental open questions on the existence of regular polytopes with certain Schläfli types. The automorphism group \( \operatorname{Aut}(\mathcal{P}) \) is explicitly realized as the semidirect product \( \mathbb{F}_2^{n-1} \rtimes D_{2n} \), where \( D_{2n} \) is the dihedral group of order \( 2n \), with a complete presentation for \( \operatorname{Aut}(\mathcal{P}) \) is provided. This advances the systematic construction of regular polytopes with prescribed symmetries.
Co-maximal Hypergraph on Dn
Let $G$ be a group and $S$ be the set of all non-trivial proper subgroups of $G$. \textit{The co-maximal hypergraph of $G$}, denoted by $Co_\mathcal{H}(G)$, is a hypergraph whose vertex set is $\{H \in S \,\, | \,\, H K = G \,\, \text{for some} \, K \in S \}$ and hyperedges are the maximal subsets of the vertex set with the property that the product of any two vertices is equal to $G$. The aim of this paper is to study the co-maximal hypergraph of dihedral groups, $Co_\mathcal{H}(D_n)$. We examine some of the structural properties, viz., diameter, girth and chromatic number of $Co_\mathcal{H}(D_n)$. Also, we provide characterizations for hypertrees, star structures and 3-uniform hypergraphs of $Co_\mathcal{H}(D_n)$. Further, we discuss the possibilities of $Co_\mathcal{H}(D_n)$ which can be embedded on the plane, torus and projective plane.
Sombor Spectrum of Super Graphs defined on groups
Given a simple graph $A$ on a group $G$ and an equivalence relation $B$ on $G$, the $B$ super $A$ graph is defined as a simple graph, whose vertex set is $G$ and two vertices $g$, $h$ are adjacent if either they are in the same equivalence class or there exist $g^{\prime} \in[g]$ and $h^{\prime} \in[h]$ such that $g^{\prime}$ and $h^{\prime}$ are adjacent in $A$. In the literature, the $B$ super $A$ graphs have been investigated by considering $A$ to be either power graph, enhanced power graph, or commuting graph and $B$ to be an equality, order or conjugacy relation. In this paper, we investigate the Sombor spectrums of these $B$ super $A$ graphs for certain non-abelian groups, viz. the dihedral group, generalized quaternion group and the semidihedral group, respectively.
The Automorphism Group of the Finitary Power Monoid of the Integers under Addition
Endowed with the binary operation of set addition carried over from the integers, the family $\mathcal P_{\mathrm{fin}}(\mathbb Z) $ of all non-empty finite subsets of $\mathbb Z$ forms a monoid whose neutral element is the singleton $\{0\}$.
Building upon recent work by Tringali and Yan, we determine the automorphisms of $\mathcal P_{\mathrm{fin}}(\mathbb Z)$. In particular, we find that the automorphism group of $\mathcal P_{\mathrm{fin}}(\mathbb Z)$ is isomorphic to the direct product of a cyclic group of order two by the infinite dihedral group.
Normal and non-normal Cayley digraphs on cyclic and dihedral groups
A Cayley digraph on a group $G$ is called NNN if the Cayley digraph is normal and its automorphism group contains a non-normal regular subgroup isomorphic to $G$. A group is called NNND-group or NNN-group if there is an NNN Cayley digraph or graph on the group, respectively. In this paper, it is shown that there is no cyclic NNND-group, and hence no cyclic NNN-group. Furthermore, a dihedral group of order $2n$ is an NNND-group or an NNN-group if and only if $n\ge 6$ is even and $n\not=8$.
Intersection Hypergraph on D_n
Let $G$ be a group and $S$ be the set of all non-trivial proper subgroups of $G$. The intersection hypergraph of $G$, denoted by $\tildeΓ_\mathcal{H}(G)$, is a hypergraph whose vertex set is $\{H \in S \,\, | \,\, H \cap K = \{e\} \,\, \text{for some} \, K \in S \}$ and hyperedges are the maximal subsets of the vertex set with the property that any two vertices in it have a trivial intersection. The aim of this paper is to study the intersection hypergraph of dihedral groups, $\tildeΓ_\mathcal{H}(D_n)$. We examine some of the structural properties, viz., diameter, girth and chromatic number of $\tildeΓ_\mathcal{H}(D_n)$. Also, we provide characterizations for hypertreees, star structures of $\tildeΓ_\mathcal{H}(D_n)$, and investigate the planarity and non-planarity of $\tildeΓ_\mathcal{H}(D_n)$.
Which coprime graphs are divisor graphs?
For a finite group $G$, the coprime graph $Γ(G)$ of $G$ is a graph with vertex set $G$, in which two distinct vertices $a$ and $b$ are adjacent if the order of $a$ and the order of $b$ are coprime. In this paper, we first give a characterization for which generalized lexicographic products are divisor graphs. As applications, we show that every of power graph, reduced power graph and order graph is a divisor graph, which also implies the main result in [N. Takshak, A. Sehgal, A. Malik, Power graph of a finite group is always divisor graph, Asian-Eur. J. Math. 16 (2023), ID: 2250236]. Then, we prove that the coprime graph of a group is a generalized lexicographic product, and give two characterizations for which coprime graphs are divisor graphs. We also describe the groups $G$ with $|π(G)|\le 4$, whose coprime graph is a divisor graph. Finally, we classify the finite groups $G$ so that $Γ(G)$ is a divisor graph if $G$ is a nilpotent group, a dihedral group, a generalized quaternion group, a symmetric group, an alternating group, a direct product of two non-trivial groups, and a sporadic simple group.
Characterizing finite groups whose order supergraphs satisfy a connectivity condition
Let $Γ$ be an undirected and simple graph. A set $ S $ of vertices in $Γ$ is called a {cyclic vertex cutset} of $Γ$ if $Γ- S$ is disconnected and has at least two components each containing a cycle. If $Γ$ has a cyclic vertex cutset, then it is said to be {cyclically separable}. For any finite group $G$, the order supergraph $\mathcal{S}(G)$ is the simple and undirected graph whose vertices are elements of $G$, and two vertices are adjacent if as elements of $G$ the order of one divides the order of the other. In this paper, we characterize the finite nilpotent groups and various non-nilpotent groups, such as the dihedral groups, the dicyclic groups, the EPPO groups, the symmetric groups, and the alternating groups, whose order supergraphs are cyclically separable.
Newton-Okounkov bodies obtained from certain orbits of plabic graphs
We investigate the plabic graphs corresponding to the quadrilateral Postnikov arrangements used by J.Scott to equip the homogeneous coordinate rings of Grassmannians with a cluster structure. More precisely we describe their orbits under the natural action of the dihedral group and show that the associated Newton-Okounkov bodies are all unimodular equivalent to Gelfand-Tsetlin polytopes.
A uniform action of the dihedral group $ Z_2\times D_3$ on Littlewood--Richardson coefficients
We show that the dihedral group $ Z_2\times D_3$ of order twelve acts faithfully on the set LR, either consisting of Littlewood-Richardson tableaux, or their companion tableaux, or Knutson-Tao hives or Knutson-Tao-Woodward puzzles, via involutions which simultaneously conjugate or shuffle a Littlewood-Richardson triple of partitions. The action of $ Z_2\times D_3$ carries a linear time index two subgroup $H\simeq D_3$ action, where an involution which goes from $H$ into the other coset of H is difficult in the sense that it is not manifest neither exhibited by simple means. Pak and Vallejo have earlier made this observation with respect to the subgroup of index two in the symmetric group $ S_3$ consisting of cyclic permutations which H extends. The other half LR symmetries, not in the range of the H-action, are hidden and consist of commutativity and conjugation symmetries. Their exhibition is reduced to the action of a remaining generator of $ Z_2\times D_3$, which belongs to the other coset of H, and enables to reduce in linear time all known LR commuters and transposers to each other, and to the Luzstig- Schützenberger involution. A hive is specified by superimposing the companion tableau pair of an LR tableau, and its $Z_2\times D_3$-symmetries are exhibited via the corresponding LR companion tableau pair. The action of $ Z_2\times D_3$ on puzzles, naturally in bijection with Purbhoo mosaics, is consistent with the migration map on mosaics which translates to jeu de taquin slides or tableau-switching on LR tableaux. Their H-symmetries are reduced to simple procedures on a puzzle via label swapping together with simple reflections of an equilateral triangle, that is, puzzle dualities, and rotations on an equilateral triangle.
On $\ell$-distance-balancedness of cubic Cayley graphs of dihedral groups
A connected graph $Γ$ of diameter ${\rm diam}(Γ) \ge \ell$ is $\ell$-distance-balanced if $|W_{xy}(Γ)|=|W_{yx}(Γ)|$ for every $x,y\in V(Γ)$ with $d_Γ(x,y)=\ell$, where $W_{xy}(Γ)$ is the set of vertices of $Γ$ that are closer to $x$ than to $y$. $Γ$ is said to be highly distance-balanced if it is $\ell$-distance-balanced for every $\ell\in [{\rm diam}(Γ)]$. It is proved that every cubic Cayley graph whose generating set is one of $\{a,a^{n-1},ba^r\}$ and $\{a^k,a^{n-k},ba^t\}$ is highly distance-balanced. This partially solves a problem posed by Miklavič and Šparl.
(Total) Perfect codes in (extended) subgroup sum graphs
Given a finite group $G$ with identity $e$ and a normal subgroup $H$ of $G$, the subgroup sum graph $Γ_{G,H}$ (resp. extended subgroup sum graph $Γ_{G,H}^+$) of $G$ with respect to $H$ is the graph with vertex set $G$, in which distinct vertices $x$ and $y$ are adjacent whenever $xy\in H\setminus \{e\}$ (resp. $xy\in H$). A group $G$ is said to be {\em code-perfect} if for any normal subgroup $H$ of $G$, $Γ_{G,H}$ admits a perfect code. In this paper, we give a necessary and sufficient condition for which normal subgroups $H$ of $G$ satisfy that a (extended) subgroup sum graph of $G$ with respect to $H$ admits a (total) perfect code, and classify all code-perfect Dedekind groups. As an application, we classify all normal subgroups such that the subgroup sum graph of a cyclic group, a dihedral group or a dicyclic group with respect to such a normal subgroup admits perfect codes, respectively. We also determine all abelian groups $A$ and subgroups $H$ of $A$ such that $Γ_{A,H}$ admits a total perfect code.
On a bipartite graph defined on groups
Let $G$ be a group and $L(G)$ be the set of all subgroups of $G$. We introduce a bipartite graph $\mathcal{B}(G)$ on $G$ whose vertex set is the union of two sets $G \times G$ and $L(G)$, and two vertices $(a, b) \in G \times G$ and $H \in L(G)$ are adjacent if $H$ is generated by $a$ and $b$. We establish connections between $\mathcal{B}(G)$ and the generating graph of $G$. We also discuss about various graph parameters such as independence number, domination number, girth, diameter, matching number, clique number, irredundance number, domatic number and minimum size of a vertex cover of $\mathcal{B}(G)$. We obtain relations between $\mathcal{B}(G)$ and certain probabilities associated to finite groups. We also obtain expressions for various topological indices of $\mathcal{B}(G)$. Finally, we realize the structures of $\mathcal{B}(G)$ for the dihedral groups of order $2p$ and $2p^2$ and dicyclic groups of order $4p$ and $4p^2$ (where $p$ is any prime) including certain other small order groups.
S-invariant and S-multinvariant functions and some symmetry groups of algebraic sieves
In this article we introduced algebraic sieves, i.e. selection procedures on a given finite set to extract a particular subset. Such procedures are performed by finite groups acting on the set. They are called sieves because there are certain sets of numbers which, with appropriate groups, can select, for example, a set of primes, think of the famous Eratosthenes sieve. In this article we have given a general definition of algebraic sieves. And we also introduced the notion of invariant and multi-invariant functions, certain permutations on the sieve set which, in the invariant case, commute with the action of a given sieve-selecting group and the automorphism of that group, and multi-invariants which commute with all groups and their respective automorphisms. By means of such functions we have given symmetries on such sieves. In particular, we studied certain groups of symmetries of invariant functions. Then, using such notions, we studied a particular example, the Goldbach sieve, where the selector groups are dihedral groups and the selected set consists of the primes and, in some cases, the numbers $1$ and $N-1=p$, with $N$ being even and p prime, which satisfies the Goldbach conjecture for $N$. We have shown that one of these symmetry groups is isomorphic to a subgroup or affinity group of the ring of integers modulo N with N an integer even $\mathbb{Z}_{N}$.
Near-factorizations of dihedral groups
We investigate near-factorizations of nonabelian groups, concentrating on dihedral groups. We show that some known constructions of near-factorizations in dihedral groups yield equivalent near-factorizations. In fact, there are very few known examples of nonequivalent near-factorizations in dihedral or other nonabelian groups; we provide some new examples with the aid of the computer. We also analyse a construction for near-factorizations in dihedral groups from near-factorizations in cyclic groups, due to Pêcher, and we investigate when nonequivalent near-factorizations can be obtained by this method.
Uniqueness and explicit computation of mates in near-factorizations
We show that a "mate'' $B$ of a set $A$ in a near-factorization $(A,B)$ of a finite group $G$ is unique. Further, we describe how to compute the mate $B$ very efficiently using an explicit formula for $B$. We use this approach to give an alternate proof of a theorem of Wu, Yang and Feng, which states that a strong circular external difference family cannot have more than two sets. We prove some new structural properties of near-factorizations in certain classes of groups. Then we examine all the noncyclic abelian groups of order less than $200$ in a search for a possible nontrivial near-factorization. All of these possibilities are ruled out, either by theoretical criteria or by exhaustive computer searches. (In contrast, near-factorizations in cyclic or dihedral groups are known to exist by previous results.) We also look briefly at nontrivial near-factorizations of index $λ> 1$ in noncyclic abelian groups. Various examples are found with $λ= 2$ by computer.
