As a discrete counterpart to the classical John theorem on the approximation of (symmetric) $n$-dimensional convex bodies $K$ by ellipsoids, Tao and Vu introduced so called generalized arithmetic progressions $P(A,b)\subset Z^n$ in order to cover (many of) the lattice points inside a convex body by a simple geometric structure. Among others, they proved that there exists a generalized arithmetic progressions $P(A,b)$ such that $P(A,b)\subset K\cap Z^n\subset P(A,O(n)^{3n/2}b)$. Here we show that this bound can be lowered to $n^{O(\ln n)}$ and study some general properties of so called unimodular generalized arithmetic progressions.
Exchange graphs for mutation-finite non-integer quivers of rank 3
Skew-symmetric non-integer matrices with real entries can be viewed as quivers with non-integer weights of arrows. One can mutate such quivers according to usual rules of quiver mutation. Felikson and Tumarkin show that rank 3 mutation-finite non-integer quivers admit geometric realisations by partial reflections. This allows to define a notion of seeds (as Y-seeds), and hence, to define the exchange graphs for mutation classes. In this paper we study exchange graphs of mutation-finite quivers in rank 3. The concept of finite and affine type generalises naturally to non-integer quivers. In particular, exchange graphs of finite type quivers are finite, while exchange graphs of affine quivers are finite modulo the action of a finite-dimensional lattice.
Multicolour chain avoidance in the boolean lattice
Given a collection of colored chain posets, we estimate the number of colored subsets of the boolean lattice which avoid all chains in the collection.

We give three applications of a recently-proven "Decomposition Lemma," which allows one to count preimages of certain sets of permutations under West's stack-sorting map $s$. We first enumerate the permutation class $s^{-1}(\text{Av}(231,321))=\text{Av}(2341,3241,45231)$, finding a new example of an unbalanced Wilf equivalence. This result is equivalent to the enumeration of permutations sortable by ${\bf B}\circ s$, where ${\bf B}$ is the bubble sort map. We then prove that the sets $s^{-1}(\text{Av}(231,312))$, $s^{-1}(\text{Av}(132,231))=\text{Av}(2341,1342,\underline{32}41,\underline{31}42)$, and $s^{-1}(\text{Av}(132,312))=\text{Av}(1342,3142,3412,34\underline{21})$ are counted by the so-called "Boolean-Catalan numbers," settling a conjecture of the current author and another conjecture of Hossain. This completes the enumerations of all sets of the form $s^{-1}(\text{Av}(τ^{(1)},\ldots,τ^{(r)}))$ for $\{τ^{(1)},\ldots,τ^{(r)}\}\subseteq S_3$ with the exception of the set $\{321\}$. We also find an explicit formula for $|s^{-1}(\text{Av}_{n,k}(231,312,321))|$, where $\text{Av}_{n,k}(231,312,321)$ is the set of permutations in $\text{Av}_n(231,312,321)$ with $k$ descents. This allows us to prove a conjectured identity involving Catalan numbers and order ideals in Young's lattice.
Chromatic Zeros On Hierarchical Lattices and Equidistribution on Parameter Space
Associated to any finite simple graph $Γ$ is the chromatic polynomial $P_Γ(q)$ whose complex zeroes are called the chromatic zeros of $Γ$. A hierarchical lattice is a sequence of finite simple graphs $\{Γ_n\}_{n=0}^\infty$ built recursively using a substitution rule expressed in terms of a generating graph. For each $n$, let $μ_n$ denote the probability measure that assigns a Dirac measure to each chromatic zero of $Γ_n$. Under a mild hypothesis on the generating graph, we prove that the sequence $μ_n$ converges to some measure $μ$ as $n$ tends to infinity. We call $μ$ the limiting measure of chromatic zeros associated to $\{Γ_n\}_{n=0}^\infty$. In the case of the Diamond Hierarchical Lattice we prove that the support of $μ$ has Hausdorff dimension two.
The main techniques used come from holomorphic dynamics and more specifically the theories of activity/bifurcation currents and arithmetic dynamics. We prove a new equidistribution theorem that can be used to relate the chromatic zeros of a hierarchical lattice to the activity current of a particular marked point. We expect that this equidistribution theorem will have several other applications.

It has been shown by Soprunov that the normalized mixed volume (minus one) of an $n$-tuple of $n$-dimensional lattice polytopes is a lower bound for the number of interior lattice points in the Minkowski sum of the polytopes. He defined $n$-tuples of mixed degree at most one to be exactly those for which this lower bound is attained with equality, and posed the problem of a classification of such tuples. We give a finiteness result regarding this problem in general dimension $n \geq 4$, showing that all but finitely many $n$-tuples of mixed degree at most one admit a common lattice projection onto the unimodular simplex $Δ_{n-1}$. Furthermore, we give a complete solution in dimension $n=3$. In the course of this we show that our finiteness result does not extend to dimension $n=3$, as we describe infinite families of triples of mixed degree one not admitting a common lattice projection onto the unimodular triangle $Δ_2$.

Let ${\mathscr L}=(X,\preceq)$ be a lattice. For ${\cal P}\subseteq X$ we say that ${\cal P}$ is $t$-{\it intersecting} if ${\sf rank}(x\wedge y)\ge t$ for all $x,y\in{\cal P}$. The seminal theorem of Erdős, Ko and Rado describes the maximum intersecting ${\cal P}$ in the lattice of subsets of a finite set with the additional condition that ${\cal P}$ is contained within a level of the lattice. The Erdős-Ko-Rado theorem has been extensively studied and generalized to other objects and lattices.
In this paper, we focus on intersecting families of permutations as defined with respect to the weak Bruhat lattice. In this setting, we prove analogs of certain extremal results on intersecting set systems. In particular we give a characterization of the maximum intersecting families of permutations in the Bruhat lattice. We also characterize the maximum intersecting families of permutations within the $r^{\textrm{th}}$ level of the Bruhat lattice of permutations of size $n$, provided that $n$ is large relative to $r$.
Geometric realizations of Tamari interval lattices via cubic coordinates
We introduce cubic coordinates, which are integer words encoding intervals in the Tamari lattices. Cubic coordinates are in bijection with interval-posets, themselves known to be in bijection with Tamari intervals. We show that in each degree the set of cubic coordinates forms a lattice, isomorphic to the lattice of Tamari intervals. Geometric realizations are naturally obtained by placing cubic coordinates in space, highlighting some of their properties. We consider the cellular structure of these realizations. Finally, we show that the poset of cubic coordinates is shellable.
The Möbius function of ${\rm PSL}(3,2^p)$ for any prime $p$
Let $G$ be the simple group ${\rm PSL}(3,2^p)$, where $p$ is a prime number. For any subgroup $H$ of $G$, we compute the Möbius function of $H$ in the subgroup lattice of $G$. To this aim, we describe the intersections of maximal subgroups of $G$. We point out some connections of the Möbius function with other combinatorial objects, and, in this context, we compute the reduced Euler characteristic of the order complex of the subposet of $r$-subgroups of ${\rm PGL}(3,q)$, for any prime $r$ and any prime power $q$.

We study solutions of the Volterra lattice satisfying the stationary equation for its non-autonomous symmetry. It is shown that the dynamics in $t$ and $n$ are governed by the continuous and discrete Painlevé equations, respectively. The class of initial data leading to regular solutions is described. For the lattice on the half-line, these solutions are expressed in terms of the confluent hypergeometric function. The Hankel transform of the coefficients of the corresponding Taylor series is computed on the basis of the Wronskian representation of the solution.
Mixing properties of colorings of the $\mathbb{Z}^d$ lattice
We study and classify proper $q$-colorings of the $\mathbb Z^d$ lattice, identifying three regimes where different combinatorial behavior holds: (1) When $q\le d+1$, there exist frozen colorings, that is, proper $q$-colorings of $\mathbb Z^d$ which cannot be modified on any finite subset. (2) We prove a strong list-coloring property which implies that, when $q\ge d+2$, any proper $q$-coloring of the boundary of a box of side length $n \ge d+2$ can be extended to a proper $q$-coloring of the entire box. (3) When $q\geq 2d+1$, the latter holds for any $n \ge 1$. Consequently, we classify the space of proper $q$-colorings of the $\mathbb Z^d$ lattice by their mixing properties.
The Hopf algebra of generic rectangulations
A family of permutations called 2-clumped permutations forms a basis for a sub-Hopf algebra of the Malvenuto-Reutenauer Hopf algebra of permutations. The 2-clumped permutations are in bijection with certain decompositions of a square into rectangles, called generic rectangulations. Thus, we can describe the Hopf algebra of 2-clumped permutations using generic rectangulations (we call this isomorphic Hopf algebra the Hopf algebra of generic rectangulations). In this paper, we describe the cover relations in a lattice of generic rectangulations that is a lattice quotient of the right weak order on permutations. We then use this lattice to describe the product and coproduct operations in the Hopf algebra of generic rectangulations.
New invariants for integral lattices
Let $Λ$ be any integral lattice in Euclidean space. It has been shown that for every integer $n>0$, there is a hypersphere that passes through exactly $n$ points of $Λ$. Using this result, we introduce new lattice invariants and give some computational results related to two-dimensional Euclidean lattices of class number one.

As a classical object, the Tamari lattice has many generalizations, including $ν$-Tamari lattices and parabolic Tamari lattices. In this article, we unify these generalizations in a bijective fashion. We first prove that parabolic Tamari lattices are isomorphic to $ν$-Tamari lattices for bounce paths $ν$. We then introduce a new combinatorial object called `left-aligned colorable tree', and show that it provides a bijective bridge between various parabolic Catalan objects and certain nested pairs of Dyck paths. As a consequence, we prove the Steep-Bounce Conjecture using a generalization of the famous zeta map in $q,t$-Catalan combinatorics. A generalization of the zeta map on parking functions, which arises in the theory of diagonal harmonics, is also obtained as a labeled version of our bijection.
Sects and lattice paths over the Lagrangian Grassmannian
We examine Borel subgroup orbits in the classical symmetric space of type CI, which are parametrized by skew symmetric (n, n)-clans. We describe bijections between such clans, certain weighted lattice paths, and pattern-avoiding signed involutions, and we give a cell decomposition of the symmetric space in terms of collections of clans called sects. The largest sect with a conjectural closure order is isomorphic (as a poset) to the Bruhat order on partial involutions.
Remarks on Enveloping Semigroups
The local structures of enveloping semigroups of simple groups are investigated. All J-coirreducible connected stabilizer submonoids are determined. The notion of a navel of a reductive monoid is introduced. The cross-section lattice of the enveloping monoid is shown to be atomic. In type A, the generating series for the number of $G\times G$-orbits is found.
Structural properties of non-crossing partitions from algebraic and geometric perspectives

The present thesis studies structural properties of non-crossing partitions associated to finite Coxeter groups from both algebraic and geometric perspectives. On the one hand, non-crossing partitions are lattices, and on the other hand, we can view them as simplicial complexes by considering their order complexes. We make use of these different interpretations and their interactions in various ways.
The order complexes of non-crossing partitions have a rich geometric structure, which we investigate in this thesis. In particular, we interpret them as subcomplexes of spherical buildings. From a more algebraic viewpoint, we study automorphisms and anti-automorphisms of non-crossing partitions and their relation to building automorphisms. We also compute the automorphism groups of non-crossing partitions of type $B$ and $D$, provided that $n \neq 4$ for type $D$. For this, we introduce a new pictorial representation for type $D$.
In type $A$ we study the structural properties of the order complex of the non-crossing partitions in more detail. In particular, we investigate the interaction of chamber distances and convex hulls in the non-crossing partition complex and the ambient spherical building. These questions are connected to the curvature conjecture of Brady and McCammond.
Towards a mathematical formalism for classifying phases of matter
We propose a unified mathematical framework for classifying phases of matter. The framework is based on different types of combinatorial structures with a notion of locality called lattices. A tensor lattice is a local prescription that associates tensor networks to those lattices. Different lattices are related by local operations called moves. Those local operations define consistency conditions for the tensors of the tensor network, the solutions to which yield exactly solvable models for all kinds of phases. We implement the framework to obtain models for symmetry-breaking and topological phases in up to three space-time dimensions, their boundaries, defects, domain walls and symmetries, as well as their anyons for 2+1-dimensional systems. We also deliver ideas of how other kinds of phases, like SPT/SET, fermionic, free-fermionic, chiral, and critical phases, can be described within our framework. We also define another structure called contracted tensor lattices which generalize tensor lattices: The former associate tensors instead of tensor networks to lattices, and the consistency conditions for those tensors are defined by another kind of local operation called gluings. Using this generalization, our framework also covers mathematical structures like axiomatic (non-fully extended or defective) TQFTs, that do not directly describe phases on a microscopic physical level, but formalize certain aspects of potential phases, like the anyon statistics of 2+1-dimensional phases. We also introduce the very powerful concept of (contracted) tensor lattice mapping, unifying a lots of different operations, such as stacking, anyon fusion, anyon condensation, equivalence of different fixed point models, taking the Drinfel'd centre, trivial defects or interpreting a bosonic model as a fermionic model.
Maximum $k$-sum $\mathbf{n}$-free sets of the 2-dimensional integer lattice
For a positive integer $n$, let $[n]$ denote $\{1, \ldots, n\}$. For a 2-dimensional integer lattice point $\mathbf{b}$ and positive integers $k\geq 2$ and $n$, a \textit{$k$-sum $\mathbf{b}$-free set} of $[n]\times [n]$ is a subset $S$ of $[n]\times [n]$ such that there are no elements ${\mathbf{a}}_1, \ldots, {\mathbf{a}}_k$ in $S$ satisfying ${\mathbf{a}}_1+\cdots+{\mathbf{a}}_k =\mathbf{b}$. For a 2-dimensional integer lattice point $\mathbf{b}$ and positive integers $k\geq 2$ and $n$, we determine the maximum density of a {$k$-sum $\mathbf{b}$-free set} of $[n]\times [n]$. This is the first investigation of the non-homogeneous sum-free set problem in higher dimensions.
The covering radius and a discrete surface area for non-hollow simplices

We explore upper bounds on the covering radius of non-hollow lattice polytopes. In particular, we conjecture a general upper bound of $d/2$ in dimension $d$, achieved by the "standard terminal simplices" and direct sums of them. We prove this conjecture up to dimension three and show it to be equivalent to the conjecture of González-Merino \& Schymura (2017) that the $d$-th covering minimum of the standard terminal $n$-simplex equals $d/2$, for every $n>d$.
We also show that these two conjectures would follow from a discrete analog for lattice simplices of Hadwiger's formula bounding the covering radius of a convex body in terms of the ratio of surface area versus volume. To this end, we introduce a new notion of discrete surface area of non-hollow simplices. We prove our discrete analog in dimension two and we give strong evidence for its validity in arbitrary dimension.
