Punctual noncommutative Hilbert schemes
Punctual noncommutative Hilbert schemes are projective varieties parametrizing finite codimensional left ideals in noncommutative formal power series rings. We determine their motives and intersection cohomology, by constructing affine pavings and small resolutions of singularities.
Operads and bialgebras of multi-indices, and Novikov algebras
Noncommutative multi-indices are noncommutative monomials in a $\mathbb{N}$-indexed family of indeterminates. We define on them a $\mathbb{Z}$-graded operadic structure, with the help of a shifting derivation. Multi-indices of degree 0 are called populated: they form a suboperad, isomorphic to the operad of Novikov algebras. This operadic structure, and the relation between pre-Lie and Novikov algebras, induces two bialgebraic structure in cointeraction on commutative multi-indices. We show how to combinatorially embed this double bialgebra into the Connes-Kreimer Hopf algebra of rooted trees, with its two coproducts based, firstly on cuts, secondly, on contraction of edges, and how this embedding can be characterized by a Dyson-Schwinger equation. We also study the unique polynomial invariant compatible with the two bialgebraic structures on multi-indices and use to describe the antipode for the first coproduct.
On the Algebraic Bases of Polyzetas
Two confluent rewriting systems in noncommutatives polynomials are constructed using the equations allowing the identification of the local coordinates (of second kind) of the graphs of the $ζ$ polymorphism as being (shuffle or quasi-shuffle) characters and bridging two algebraic structures of polyzetas. In each system, the left side of each rewriting rule corresponds to the leading monomial of the associated homogeneous in weight polynomial while the right side is canonically represented on the Q-algebra generated by irreducible terms which encode an algebraic basis of the Q-algebra of polyzetas. These polynomials are totally lexicographically ordered and generate the kernels of the $ζ$ polymorphism meaning that the Q-free algebra of polyzetas is graded and the irreducible polyzetas are transcendent numbers, Q-algebraically independent, and then $π$ 2 is Q-algebraically independent on odd zeta values (so does $π$).
Hyperlogarithms: Functions on Free Monoids
To factorize and to decompose the graphs of representative functions on the free monoid X * (generated by the alphabet X ) with values in the ring A containing Q, we examine various products of series (as concatenation, shuffle and its $φ$ -deformations) and co-products, which are such that their associated non graded bialgebras are isomorphic, for A is a field K, to the Sweedler's dual of the graded noncommutative co-commutative K-bialgebra of polynomials.
Cocycle weighted infinitesimal bialgebras and pre-Lie algebras on rooted trees
The concept of weighted infinitesimal bialgebras provides an algebraic framework for understanding the non-homogeneous associative Yang-Baxter equation. In this paper, we endow the space of decorated planar rooted forests with a two-parameters family of coproducts, making it into a weighted infinitesimal bialgebra. A combinatorial characterization of the coproducts is given via the notion of forest biideals. Furthermore, by constructing a bilinear symmetric form and introducing a new grafting operation on rooted forests, we describe the associated dual products. We also introduce the notion of the pair-weight 1-cocycle condition and investigate the universal properties of decorated planar rooted forests satisfying this condition. This leads to the definition of a weighted $Ω$-cocycle infinitesimal unitary bialgebra. As applications, we identify the initial object in the category of free cocycle infinitesimal unitary bialgebras on undecorated planar rooted forests, corresponding to the well-known noncommutative Connes-Kreimer Hopf algebra. In addition, we establish isomorphisms between different coproduct structures and construct a pre-Lie algebra structure on decorated planar rooted forests.
Strong convergence: a short survey
A family of random matrices is said to converge strongly to a limiting family of operators if the operator norm of every noncommutative polynomial of the matrices converges to that of the limiting operators. Recent developments surrounding the strong convergence phenomenon have led to new progress on important problems in random graphs, geometry, operator algebras, and applied mathematics. We review classical and recent results in this area, and their applications to various areas of mathematics.
A Poisson Type Operator Deformed by Generalized Fibonacci Numbers and Its Combinatorial Moment Formula
We introduce a two-parameter deformation of the classical Poisson distribution from the viewpoint of noncommutative probability theory, by defining a $(q,t)$-Poisson type operator (random variable) on the $(q,t)$-Fock space \cite{Bl12} (See also \cite{BY06, AY20}). From the analogous viewpoint of the classical Poisson limit theorem in probability theory, we are naturally led to a family of orthogonal polynomials, which we call the $(q,t)$-Charlier polynomials. These generalize the $q$-Charlier polynomials of Saitoh-Yoshida \cite{SY00a, SY00b} and reflect deeper combinatorial symmetries through the additional deformation parameter $t$. A central feature of this paper is the derivation of a combinatorial moment formula of the $(q,t)$-Poisson type operator and the $(q,t)$-Poisson distribution. This is accomplished by means of a card arrangement technique, which encodes set partitions together with crossing and nesting statistics. The resulting expression naturally exhibits a duality between these statistics, arising from a structure rooted in generalized Fibonacci numbers. Our approach provides a concrete framework where methods in combinatorics and theory of orthogonal polynomials are used to investigate the probabilistic properties arising from the $(q,t)$-deformation.
Noncommutative marked surfaces II: tagged triangulations, clusters, and their symmetries
The aim of the paper is to define noncommutative cluster structure on several algebras ${\mathcal A}$ related to marked surfaces possibly with orbifold points of various orders, which includes noncommutative clusters, i.e., embeddings of a given group $G$ into the multiplicative monoid ${\mathcal A}^\times$ and an action of a certain braid-like group $Br_{\mathcal A}$ by automorphisms of each cluster group in a compatible way. For punctured surfaces we construct new symmetries, noncommutative tagged clusters and establish a noncommutative Laurent Phenomenon.
Fundamental and homogeneous bases of Hopf algebras built from nonsymmetric operads
We introduce new partial order structures on the underlying sets of free nonsymmetric operads. These posets involve decorated ordered rooted trees, and their terminal intervals are lattices. These lattices are not graded, not self-dual, and not semi-distributive, but they are EL-shellable, and their Mbius functions take values in $\{-1, 0, 1\}$. They admit sublattices on the families of $m$-Fuss-Catalan objects and of forests of trees. This latter order structure is used to construct two new bases for the natural Hopf algebras of free nonsymmetric operads: a fundamental basis and a homogeneous basis. Along with the already known elementary basis of these Hopf algebras, this yields a triple of bases. The situation is similar to what is observed in the Hopf algebras of Malvenuto-Reutenauer, Loday-Ronco, and noncommutative symmetric functions, each of which presents such triples of bases and basis changes involving, respectively, the right weak partial order, the Tamari partial order, and the Boolean lattice partial order.
The strong convergence phenomenon
In a seminal 2005 paper, Haagerup and Thorbjørnsen discovered that the norm of any noncommutative polynomial of independent complex Gaussian random matrices converges to that of a limiting family of operators that arises from Voiculescu's free probability theory. In recent years, new methods have made it possible to establish such strong convergence properties in much more general situations, and to obtain even more powerful quantitative forms of the strong convergence phenomenon. These, in turn, have led to a number of spectacular applications to long-standing open problems on random graphs, hyperbolic surfaces, and operator algebras, and have provided flexible new tools that enable the study of random matrices in unexpected generality. This survey aims to provide an introduction to this circle of ideas.
Dimensions of compositions modulo a prime
The (ordinary) representation theory of the symmetric group is fascinating and has rich connections to combinatorics, including the Frobenius correspondence to the self-dual graded Hopf algebra of symmetric functions. The $0$-Hecke algebra (of type $A$) is a deformation of the group algebra of the symmetric group, and its representation theory has an analogous correspondence to the dual graded Hopf algebras of quasisymmetric functions and noncommutative symmetric functions. Macdonald used the hook length formula for the number of standard Young tableaux of a fixed shape to determine how many irreducible representations of the symmetric group have dimensions indivisible by a prime $p$. In this paper, we study the dimensions of the projective indecomposable modules of the $0$-Hecke algebra modulo $p$; such a module is indexed by a composition and its dimension is given by a ribbon number, i.e., the cardinality of a descent class. Applying a result of Dickson on the congruence of multinomial coefficients, we count how many ribbon numbers belong to each congruence class modulo $p$. We also extend the result to other finite Coxeter groups.
The peak algebra in noncommuting variables
The well-known descent-to-peak map $Θ_{\mathrm{QSym}}$ for the Hopf algebra of quasisymmetric functions, $\mathrm{QSym}$, and the peak algebra $Π$ were originally defined by Stembridge in 1997. We introduce their noncommutative analogues, the labelled descent-to-peak map $Θ_{\mathrm{NCQSym}}$ for the Hopf algebra of quasisymmetric functions in noncommuting variables, $\mathrm{NCQSym}$, and the peak algebra in noncommuting variables $\mathrm{NC}Π$. Then, we define the Hopf algebra of Schur $Q$-functions in noncommuting variables. We show that our generalizations possess many properties analogous to their classical counterparts. Furthermore, we show that the coefficients in the expansion of certain elements of $\mathrm{NC}Π$ in the monomial basis of $\mathrm{NCQSym}$ satisfy the generalized Dehn-Sommerville equation of Bayer and Billera. In the end, we give representation-theoretic interpretations of the descent-to-peak map for the Hopf algebras of symmetric functions and noncommutative symmetric functions.
The connection between the chromatic function and the Redei-Berge function
There is a natural way to assign both graph and digraph to every poset. Furthermore, any graph has its chromatic function, while any digraph has its Redei-Berge function. On the level of posets, these two functions are almost identical. Here, we prove that this connection is actually a reflection of the connection between the noncommutative generalizations of these two functions. The simplicity of this relationship enables us to easily translate the properties proved for one of them to the case of the other. We perform such conversions regarding distinguishability, decomposition techniques and positivity questions. Among others, we obtain the converse of Redei's theorem, generalization of the triple deletion property and expressions for these functions in some special cases.
Hybrid Grothendieck polynomials
For a skew shape $λ/μ$, we define the hybrid Grothendieck polynomial $${G}_{λ/μ}(\textbf{x};\textbf{t};\textbf{w}) =\sum_{T\in \mathrm{SVRPP}(λ/μ)} \textbf{x}^{\mathrm{ircont}(T)}\textbf{t}^{\mathrm{ceq} (T)}\textbf{w}^{\mathrm{ex}(T)}$$ as a weight generating function over set-valued reverse plane partitions of shape $λ/μ$. It specializes to \begin{itemize}
\item[(1)] the refined
stable Grothendieck polynomial introduced by Chan--Pflueger by setting all $t_i=0$;
\item[(2)] the refined dual stable Grothendieck polynomial introduced by Galashin--Grinberg--Liu by setting all $w_i=0$. \end{itemize}
We show that ${G}_{λ/μ}(\textbf{x};\textbf{t};\textbf{w})$ is symmetric in the $\textbf{x}$ variables. By building a crystal structure on set-valued reverse plane partitions, we obtain the expansion of ${G}_{λ/μ}(\textbf{x};\textbf{t};\textbf{w})$ in the basis of Schur functions, extending previous work by Monical--Pechenik--Scrimshaw and Galashin. Based on the Schur expansion, we deduce that hybrid Grothendieck polynomials of straight shapes have saturated Newton polytopes. Finally, using Fomin--Greene's theory on noncommutative Schur functions, we give a combinatorial formula for the image of ${G}_{λ/μ}(\textbf{x};\textbf{t};\textbf{w})$ (in the case $t_i=α$ and $w_i=β$) under the omega involution on symmetric functions. The formula unifies the structures of weak set-valued tableaux and valued-set tableaux introduced by Lam--Pylyavskyy. Several problems and conjectures are motivated and discussed.
When are Hopf algebras determined by integer sequences?
We study the category of graded Hopf algebras that are free noncommutative, cocommutative, graded and connected from the perspective of the sequences of dimensions of the graded pieces. We show that a Hopf algebra exists with a given sequence of graded dimensions if and only if the ``INVERTi'' transformation of the sequence is nonnegative. We give conditions on the sequences of graded dimensions for two Hopf algebras $H$ and $K$ in this category under which there exists a surjective homomorphism from $H$ to $K$. We also give conditions such that an isomorphic copy of $H$ occurs as a Hopf subalgebra of $K$.
Noncommutative Equiangular Lines: van Lint-Seidel Relative and Gerzon Universal Bounds
We introduce the notion of noncommutative equiangular lines and derive noncommutative versions of fundamental van Lint-Seidel relative and Gerzon universal bounds.
Noncommutative properties of 0-hyperbolic graphs
We study several noncommutative properties of 0-hyperbolic graphs. In particular, we prove that 0-hyperbolicity is preserved under quantum isomorphism. We also compute the quantum automorphism groups of 0-hyperbolic graphs and characterise the ones with quantum symmetry.
Square-Root Cancellation, Averages over Hyperplanes, and the Structure of Finite Rings
We formulate a form of square-root cancellation for the operator which sums a mean-zero function over a hyperplane in $R^d$ for $R$ a possibly noncommutative finite ring. Using an argument of Hart, Iosevich, Koh, and Rudnev, we show that this square-root cancellation occurs when $R$ is a finite field. We then show that this square-root cancellation does not occur over finite rings which are not finite fields. This extends an earlier result of the author to an operator which is not translation-invariant.
Matrix symmetric and quasi-symmetric functions and noncommutative representation theory
A fundamental result by L. Solomon in algebraic combinatorics and representation theory states that Mackey formulas for products of characters of a symmetric group, or equivalently the computation of tensor products of representations thereof, can be lifted to the corresponding Solomon's descent algebra, a subalgebra of the group algebra with a very rich structure. Motivated by the structure of the product formula in these algebras and by other results and ideas in the field, we introduce and investigate in the present article a two dimensional analogue of descent algebras based on packed integer matrices that inherits most of their fundamental properties. One of the various bialgebra structures we introduce on packed integer matrices identifies with a bialgebra recently introduced by J. Diehl and L. Schmitz to define a two dimensional generalisation of Chen's iterated integrals signatures.
Noncommutative chromatic quasi-symmetric functions, Macdonald polynomials, and the Yang-Baxter equation
As shown in our paper [JCTA 177 (2021), Paper No. 105305], the chromatic quasi-symmetric function of Shareshian-Wachs can be lifted to ${\bf WQSym}$, the algebra of quasi-symmetric functions in noncommuting variables. We investigate here its behaviour with respect to classical transformations of alphabets and propose a noncommutative analogue of Macdonald polynomials compatible with a noncommutative version of the Haglund-Wilson formula. We also introduce a multi-$t$ version of these noncommutative analogues. For rectangular partitions, their commutative images at $q=0$ appear to coincide with the multi-$t$ Hall-Littlewood functions introduced in [Lett. Math. Phys. 35 (1995), 359]. This leads us to conjecture that for rectangular partitions, multi-$t$ Macdonald polynomials are obtained as equivariant traces of certain Yang-Baxter elements of Hecke algebras. We also conjecture that all (ordinary) Macdonald polynomials can be obtained in this way. We conclude with some remarks relating various aspects of quasi-symmetric chromatic functions to calculations in Hecke algebras. In particular, we show that all modular relations are given by the product formula of the Kazhdan-Lusztig basis.
