In this paper, we contribute to the study of topological partition relations for pairs of countable ordinals and prove that, for all integers $n \geq 3$, \begin{align*} R^{cl}(ω+n,3) &\geq ω^2 \cdot n + ω\cdot (R(n,3)-n)+n\\ R^{cl}(ω+n,3) &\leq ω^2 \cdot n + ω\cdot (R(2n-3,3)+1)+1 \end{align*} where $R^{cl}(\cdot,\cdot)$ and $R(\cdot,\cdot)$ denote the closed Ramsey numbers and the classical Ramsey numbers respectively. We also establish the following asymptotically weaker upper bound \[ R^{cl}(ω+n,3) \leq ω^2 \cdot n + ω\cdot (n^2-4)+1\] eliminating the use of Ramsey numbers. These results improve the previously known upper and lower bounds.
On $t$-core and self-conjugate $(2t-1)$-core partitions in arithmetic progressions

We extend recent results of Ono and Raji, relating the number of self-conjugate $7$-core partitions to Hurwitz class numbers. Furthermore, we give a combinatorial explanation for the curious equality $2\operatorname{sc}_7(8n+1) = \operatorname{c}_4(7n+2)$. We also conjecture that an equality of this shape holds if and only if $t=4$, proving the cases $t\in\{2,3,5\}$ and giving partial results for $t>5$.

Let $X$ be an $n$-element set, where $n$ is even. We refute a conjecture of J. Gordon and Y. Teplitskaya, according to which, for every maximal intersecting family $\mathcal{F}$ of $\frac{n}2$-element subsets of $X$, one can partition $X$ into $\frac{n}2$ disjoint pairs in such a way that no matter how we pick one element from each of the first $\frac{n}2 - 1$ pairs, the set formed by them can always be completed to a member of $\mathcal{F}$ by adding an element of the last pair.
The above problem is related to classical questions in extremal set theory. For any $t\ge 2$, we call a family of sets $\mathcal{F}\subset 2^X$ {\em $t$-separable} if for any ordered pair of elements $(x,y)$ of $X$, there exists $F\in\mathcal{F}$ such that $F\cap\{x,y\}=\{x\}$. For a fixed $t, 2\le t\le 5$ and $n\rightarrow\infty$, we establish asymptotically tight estimates for the smallest integer $s=s(n,t)$ such that every family $\mathcal{F}$ with $|\mathcal{F}|\ge s$ is $t$-separable.

For $1\leq s_1 \le s_2 \le \ldots \le s_k$ and a graph $G$, a packing $(s_1, s_2, \ldots, s_k)$-coloring of $G$ is a partition of $V(G)$ into sets $V_1, V_2, \ldots, V_k$ such that, for each $1\leq i \leq k$, the distance between any two distinct $x,y\in V_i$ is at least $s_i + 1$. The packing chromatic number, $χ_p(G)$, of a graph $G$ is the smallest $k$ such that $G$ has a packing $(1,2, \ldots, k)$-coloring. It is known that there are trees of maximum degree 4 and subcubic graphs $G$ with arbitrarily large $χ_p(G)$. Recently, there was a series of papers on packing $(s_1, s_2, \ldots, s_k)$-colorings of subcubic graphs in various classes. We show that every $2$-connected subcubic outerplanar graph has a packing $(1,1,2)$-coloring and every subcubic outerplanar graph is packing $(1,1,2,4)$-colorable. Our results are sharp in the sense that there are $2$-connected subcubic outerplanar graphs that are not packing $(1,1,3)$-colorable and there are subcubic outerplanar graphs that are not packing $(1,1,2,5)$-colorable. We also show subcubic outerplanar graphs that are not packing $(1,2,2,4)$-colorable and not packing $(1,1,3,4)$-colorable.
Planarity and genus of sparse random bipartite graphs

The genus of the binomial random graph $G(n,p)$ is well understood for a wide range of $p=p(n)$. Recently, the study of the genus of the random bipartite graph $G(n_1,n_2,p)$, with partition classes of size $n_1$ and $n_2$, was initiated by Mohar and Ying, who showed that when $n_1$ and $n_2$ are comparable in size and $p=p(n_1,n_2)$ is significantly larger than $(n_1n_2)^{-\frac{1}{2}}$ the genus of the random bipartite graph has a similar behaviour to that of the binomial random graph.
In this paper we show that there is a threshold for planarity of the random bipartite graph at $p=(n_1n_2)^{-\frac{1}{2}}$ and investigate the genus close to this threshold, extending the results of Mohar and Ying. It turns out that there is qualitatively different behaviour in the case where $n_1$ and $n_2$ are comparable, when whp the genus is linear in the number of edges, than in the case where $n_1$ is asymptotically smaller than $n_2$, when whp the genus behaves like the genus of a sparse random graph $G(n_1,q)$ for an appropriately chosen $q=q(p,n_1,n_2)$.
The Gini Index of an Integer Partition

The Gini index is a number that attempts to measure how equitably a resource is distributed throughout a population, and is commonly used in economics as a measurement of inequality of wealth or income. The Gini index is often defined as the area between the Lorenz curve of a distribution and the line of equality, normalized to be between zero and one. In this fashion, we define a Gini index on the set of integer partitions and show that it is closely related to the second elementary symmetric polynomial, and the dominance order on partitions. We conclude with a generating function for the Gini index, and discuss how it can be used to find lower bounds on the width of the dominance lattice.
Asymptotic behavior of Wronskian polynomials that are factorized via $p$-cores and $p$-quotients

In this paper we consider Wronskian polynomials labeled by partitions that can be factorized via the combinatorial concepts of $p$-cores and $p$-quotients. We obtain the asymptotic behavior for these polynomials when the $p$-quotient is fixed while the size of the $p$-core grows to infinity. For this purpose, we associate the $p$-core with its characteristic vector and let all entries of this vector simultaneously tend to infinity. This result generalizes the Wronskian Hermite setting which is recovered when $p=2$.

In this paper, we show that the difference between the number of parts in the odd partitions of $n$ and the number of parts in the distinct partitions of $n$ satisfies Euler's recurrence relation for the partition function $p(n)$ when $n$ is odd. A decomposition of this difference in terms of the total number of parts in all the partitions of $n$ is also derived. In this context, we conjecture that for $k>0$, the series
$$
(q^2;q^2)_\infty \sum_{n=k}^\infty \frac{q^{{k\choose 2}+(k+1)n}}{(q;q)_n}

Higher Specht bases for generalizations of the coinvariant ring

The classical coinvariant ring $R_n$ is defined as the quotient of a polynomial ring in $n$ variables by the positive-degree $S_n$-invariants. It has a known basis that respects the decomposition of $R_n$ into irreducible $S_n$-modules, consisting of the higher specht polynomials due to Ariki, Terasoma, and Yamada.
We provide an extension of the higher Specht basis to the generalized coinvariant rings $R_{n,k}$. We also give a conjectured higher Specht basis for the Garsia-Procesi modules $R_μ$, and provide a proof of the conjecture in the case of two-row partition shapes $μ$. We then combine these results to give a higher Specht basis for an infinite subfamily of the modules $R_{n,k,μ}$ recently defined by Griffin, which are a common generalization of $R_{n,k}$ and $R_μ$.
Degree Distributions in Recursive Trees with Fitnesses

We study a general model of recursive trees where vertices are equipped with independent weights and at each time-step a vertex is sampled with probability proportional to its fitness function (a function of its weight and degree) and connects to $\ell$ new-coming vertices. Under a certain technical assumption, applying the theory of Crump-Mode-Jagers branching processes, we derive formulas for the almost sure limiting distribution of the proportion of vertices with a given degree and weight, and proportion of edges with endpoint having a certain weight. As an application of this theorem, we prove rigorously observations of Bianconi related to the evolving Cayley tree in [$\mathit{Phys. \, Rev. \, E} \; \mathbf{66}, \text{ 036116 (2002)}$]. We also study the process in depth when the technical condition can fail in the particular case when the fitness function is affine, a model we call "generalised preferential attachment with fitness". We show that this model can exhibit condensation where a positive proportion of edges accumulate around vertices with maximal weight, or, more drastically, have a degenerate limiting degree distribution where the entire proportion of edges accumulate around these vertices. Finally, we prove stochastic convergence for the degree distribution under a different assumption of a strong law of large numbers for the partition function associated with the process.
Regarding two conjectures on clique and biclique partitions

For a graph $G$, let $cp(G)$ denote the minimum number of cliques of $G$ needed to cover the edges of $G$ exactly once. Similarly, let $bp_k(G)$ denote the minimum number of bicliques (i.e. complete bipartite subgraphs of $G$) needed to cover each edge of $G$ exactly $k$ times. We consider two conjectures -- one regarding the maximum possible value of $cp(G) + cp(\overline{G})$ (due to de Caen, Erdős, Pullman and Wormald) and the other regarding $bp_k(K_n)$ (due to de Caen, Gregory and Pritikin). We disprove the first, obtaining improved lower and upper bounds on $\max_G cp(G) + cp(\overline{G})$, and we prove an asymptotic version of the second, showing that $bp_k(K_n) = (1+o(1))n$.

We prove three variations of recent results due to Andrews on congruences for $NT(m,k,n)$, the total number of parts in the partitions of $n$ with rank congruent to $m$ modulo $k$. We also conjecture new congruences and relations for $NT(m,k,n)$ and for a related crank-type function.
Flow-Partitionable Signed Graphs
The NP-hard problem of correlation clustering is to partition a signed graph such that the number of conflicts between the partition and the signature of the graph is minimized. This paper studies graph signatures that allow the optimal partition to be found efficiently. We define the class of flow-partitionable signed graphs, which have the property that the standard linear programming relaxation based on so-called cycle inequalities is tight. In other words, flow-partitionable signed graphs satisfy an exact max-multiflow-min-multicut relation in the associated instances of minimum multicut. In this work we propose to characterize flow-partitionable signed graphs in terms of forbidden minors. Our initial results include two infinite classes of forbidden minors, which are sufficient if the positive subgraph is a circuit or a tree. For the general case we present another forbidden minor and point out a connection to open problems in the theory of ideal clutters.
Topological Ramsey spaces of equivalence relations and a dual Ramsey theorem for countable ordinals

We define a collection of topological Ramsey spaces consisting of equivalence relations on $ω$ with the property that the minimal representatives of the equivalence classes alternate according to a fixed partition of $ω$. To prove the associated pigeonhole principles, we make use of the left-variable Hales-Jewett theorem and its extension to an infinite alphabet. We also show how to transfer the corresponding infinite-dimensional Ramsey results to equivalence relations on countable limit ordinals (up to a necessary restriction on the set of minimal representatives of the equivalence classes) in order to obtain a dual Ramsey theorem for such ordinals.
Some formulae for coefficients in restricted $q$-products

In this paper, we derive some formulae involving coefficients of polynomials which occur quite naturally in the study of restricted partitions. Our method involves a recently discovered sieve technique by Li and Wan (Sci. China. Math. 2010). Based on this method, by considering cyclic groups of different orders we obtain some new results for these coefficients. The general result holds for any group of the form $\mathbb{Z}_{N}$ where $N\in\mathbb{N}$ and expresses certain partial sums of coefficients in terms of expressions involving roots of unity. By specializing $N$ to different values, we see that these expressions simplify in some cases and we obtain several nice identities involving these coefficients. We also use a result of Sudler (QJMAAT 1964) to obtain an asymptotic formula for the maximum absolute value of these coefficients.
The complexity of approximating the complex-valued Potts model

We study the complexity of approximating the partition function of the $q$-state Potts model and the closely related Tutte polynomial for complex values of the underlying parameters. Apart from the classical connections with quantum computing and phase transitions in statistical physics, recent work in approximate counting has shown that the behaviour in the complex plane, and more precisely the location of zeros, is strongly connected with the complexity of the approximation problem, even for positive real-valued parameters. Previous work in the complex plane by Goldberg and Guo focused on $q=2$, which corresponds to the case of the Ising model; for $q>2$, the behaviour in the complex plane is not as well understood and most work applies only to the real-valued Tutte plane.
Our main result is a complete classification of the complexity of the approximation problems for all non-real values of the parameters, by establishing \#P-hardness results that apply even when restricted to planar graphs. Our techniques apply to all $q\geq 2$ and further complement/refine previous results both for the Ising model and the Tutte plane, answering in particular a question raised by Bordewich, Freedman, Lovász and Welsh in the context of quantum computations.
A theory of spectral partitions of metric graphs
We introduce an abstract framework for the study of clustering in metric graphs: after suitably metrising the space of graph partitions, we restrict Laplacians to the clusters thus arising and use their spectral gaps to define several notions of partition energies; this is the graph counterpart of the well-known theory of spectral minimal partitions on planar domains and includes the setting in [Band \textit{et al}, Comm.\ Math.\ Phys.\ \textbf{311} (2012), 815--838] as a special case. We focus on the existence of optimisers for a large class of functionals defined on such partitions, but also study their qualitative properties, including stability, regularity, and parameter dependence. We also discuss in detail their interplay with the theory of nodal partitions. Unlike in the case of domains, the one-dimensional setting of metric graphs allows for explicit computation and analytic -- rather than numerical -- results. Not only do we recover the main assertions in the theory of spectral minimal partitions on domains, as studied in [Conti \textit{et al}, Calc.\ Var.\ \textbf{22} (2005), 45--72; Helffer \textit{et al}, Ann.\ Inst.\ Henri Poincaré Anal.\ Non Linéaire \textbf{26} (2009), 101--138], but we can also generalise some of them and answer (the graph counterparts of) a few open questions.
An asymmetric random Rado theorem for single equations: the $0$-statement

A famous result of Rado characterises those integer matrices $A$ which are partition regular, i.e. for which any finite colouring of the positive integers gives rise to a monochromatic solution to the equation $Ax=0$. Aigner-Horev and Person recently stated a conjecture on the probability threshold for the binomial random set $[n]_p$ having the asymmetric random Rado property: given partition regular matrices $A_1, \dots, A_r$ (for a fixed $r \geq 2$), however one $r$-colours $[n]_p$, there is always a colour $i \in [r]$ such that there is an $i$-coloured solution to $A_i x=0$. This generalises the symmetric case, which was resolved by Rödl and Ruciński, and Friedgut, Rödl and Schacht. Aigner-Horev and Person proved the $1$-statement of their asymmetric conjecture. In this paper, we resolve the $0$-statement in the case where the $A_i x=0$ correspond to single linear equations. Additionally we close a gap in the original proof of the 0-statement of the (symmetric) random Rado theorem.
Four-generated direct powers of partition lattices and authentication

For an integer $n\geq 5$, H. Strietz (1975) and L. Zádori (1986) proved that the lattice Part$(n)$ of all partitions of $\{1,2,\dots,n\}$ is four-generated. Developing L. Zádori's particularly elegant construction further, we prove that even the $k$-th direct power Part$(n)^k$ of Part$(n)$ is four-generated for many but only finitely many exponents $k$. E.g., Part$(n)^k$ is four-generated for every $k\leq 3\cdot 10^{89}$, and it has a four element generating set that is not an antichain for every $k\leq 1.4\cdot 10^{34}$. In connection with these results, we outline a protocol how to use these lattices in authentication and secret key cryptography.
