Finite rank kernel varieties: A variant of Hilbert's Nullstellensatz for graphons and applications to Hadamard matrices
Graphons are symmetric measurable functions that arise from a sequence of graphs. A graphon variety is the a set of all graphons defined by a condition of the form $t(g, W) = 0$ for a fixed quantum graph $g$, where $t(.,.)$ is the homomorphism density and a quantum graph is a formal linear combination of multigraphs. Using a method of representing graphs as polynomials, we construct an epimorphism from the space of quantum graphs to a subring of the complex polynomial ring that is invariant under permutations of variables. When graphons are of finite rank, we demonstrate that an analog of the "ideal" inverse in Algebraic Geometry is an ideal in our polynomial representation. Defining an algebraic kernel set using kernel varieties, we demonstrate that we can call such sets closed under the Zariski Topology. We determine several ties to Algebraic Geometry as a result of utilizing finite rank kernels and discover that a weaker version of Hilbert's Nullstellensatz applies to kernel zero-sets with respect to homomorphism density. Throughout, we examine the connection between Algebraic Geometry and Graphon Theory.

In this article, we focus on association schemes with some properties derived from the orbitals of a transitive permutation group $G$ with a one-point stabilizer $H$ satisfying $H <N_G(H)<N_G(N_G(H))\unlhd G$ and $|N_G(N_G(H))|=p^3$ where $p$ is a prime. By a corollary of our main result we obtain some inequality which corresponds to the fact $|G:N_G(N_G(H))|\leq p+1$.

A permutation is called Grassmannian if it has at most one descent. In this paper, we investigate pattern avoidance and parity restrictions for such permutations. As our main result, we derive formulas for the enumeration of Grassmannian permutations that avoid a classical pattern of arbitrary size. In addition, for patterns of the form $k12\cdots(k-1)$ and $23\cdots k1$, we provide combinatorial interpretations in terms of Dyck paths, and for $35124$-avoiding Grassmannian permutations, we give an explicit bijection to certain pattern-avoiding Schröder paths. Finally, we enumerate the subsets of odd and even permutations and discuss properties of their corresponding Dyck paths.

This paper is a contribution to the study of hereditary classes of relational structures, these classes being quasi-ordered by embeddability. It deals with the specific case of ordered sets of width two and the corresponding bichains and incomparability graphs.
Several open problems about hereditary classes of relational structures which have been considered over the years have positive answer in this case. For example, well-quasi-ordered hereditary classes of finite bipartite permutation graphs, respectively finite 321-avoiding permutations, have been characterized by Korpelainen, Lozin and Mayhill, respectively by Albert, Brignall, Ruškuc and Vatter.
We provide another proof of the results mentioned above. It is based on the existence of a countable universal poset of width two, obtained by the first author in 1978, his notion of multichainability (1978) (a kind of analog to letter-graphs), and metric properties of incomparability graphs. Using Laver's theorem (1971) on better-quasi-ordering (bqo) of countable chains we prove that a wqo hereditary class of finite or countable bipartite permutation graphs is necessarily bqo. This gives a positive answer to a conjecture of Nash-Williams (1965) in this case. We extend a previous result of Albert et al. by proving that if a hereditary class of finite, respectively countable, bipartite permutation graphs is wqo, respectively bqo, then the corresponding hereditary classes of posets of width at most two and bichains are wqo, respectively bqo.
Several notions of labelled wqo are also considered. We prove that they are all equivalent in the case of bipartite permutation graphs, posets of width at most two and the corresponding bichains. We characterize hereditary classes of finite bipartite permutation graphs which remain wqo when labels from a wqo are added.
Shattering $k$-sets with Permutations

Many concepts from extremal set theory have analogues for families of permutations. This paper is concerned with the notion of shattering for permutations. A family $\mathcal{P}$ of permutations of an $n$-element set $X$ shatters a $k$-set from $X$ if it appears in each of the $k!$ possible orders in some permutation in $\mathcal{P}$. The smallest family $\mathcal{P}$ which shatters every $k$-subset of $X$ is known to have size $Θ(\log n)$.
Our aim is to introduce and study two natural partial versions of this shattering problem.
Our first main result concerns the case where our family must contain only $t$ out of $k!$ of the possible orders. When $k=3$ we show that there are three distinct regimes depending on $t$: constant, $Θ(\log\log n)$, $Θ(\log n)$. We also show that for larger $k$ these same regimes exist although they may not cover all values of $t$.
Our second direction concerns the problem of determining the largest number of $k$-sets that can be totally shattered by a family with given size. We show that for any $n$, a family of $6$ permutations is enough to shatter a proportion between $\frac{17}{42}$ and $\frac{11}{14}$ of all triples.

The Exponential Formula allows one to enumerate any class of combinatorial objects built by choosing a set of connected components and placing a structure on each connected component which depends only on its size. There are multiple variants of this result, including Speicher's result for noncrossing partitions, as well as analogues of the Exponential Formula for series-reduced planar trees and forests. In this paper we use these formulae to give generating functions contracted Grassmannian trees and forests, certain graphs whose vertices are decorated with a helicity. Along the way we enumerate bipartite planar trees and forests, and we apply our results to enumerate various families of permutations: for example, bipartite planar trees are in bijection with separable permutations. Our generating function for Grassmannian forests can be interpreted as the rank generating function for the boundary strata of the momentum amplituhedron, an object which encodes the tree-level S-matrix of maximally supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory. This allows us to verify that the Euler characteristic of the momentum amplituhedron is 1.
Well-Ordered Flag Spaces as Functors of Points
Using Grothendieck's "functor of points" approach to algebraic geometry, we define a new infinite-dimensional algebro-geometric flag space as a $k$-functor (for $k$ a ring) which maps a $k$-algebra $R$ to the set of certain well-ordered chains of submodules of an infinite rank free $R$-module. This generalizes the well known construction of a $k$-functor that is represented by the classical (i.e. finite-dimensional) full flag scheme. We prove that as in the finite-dimensional case, there is an action of a general linear group on our flag space, that the stabilizer of the standard flag is the subgroup $B$ of upper triangular matrices, and that the Bruhat decomposition holds, meaning that our space is covered by the disjoint Schubert cells $\text{sh}(B σB) / B$ indexed by permutations $σ$ of an infinite set. Finally, in the case of flags indexed by the ordinal $ω+ 1$, we define an analog of the Bruhat order on this infinite permutation group and prove that when $k$ is a domain, Ehresmann's closure relations still hold, i.e. that the closure $\overline{\text{sh}(B σB) / B}$ is covered by the Schubert cells indexed by permutations smaller than $σ$ in the infinite Bruhat order.
Hidden symmetries and Large N factorisation for permutation invariant matrix observables

Permutation invariant polynomial functions of matrices have previously been studied as the observables in matrix models invariant under $S_N$, the symmetric group of all permutations of $N$ objects. In this paper, the permutation invariant matrix observables (PIMOs) of degree $k$ are shown to be in one-to-one correspondence with equivalence classes of elements in the diagrammatic partition algebra $P_k(N)$. On a 4-dimensional subspace of the 13-parameter space of $S_N$ invariant Gaussian models, there is an enhanced $O(N)$ symmetry. At a special point in this subspace, is the simplest $O(N)$ invariant action. This is used to define an inner product on the PIMOs which is expressible as a trace of a product of elements in the partition algebra. The diagram algebra $P_k(N)$ is used to prove the large $N$ factorisation property of this inner product, which generalizes a familiar large $N$ factorisation for inner products of matrix traces invariant under continuous symmetries.
The skew Brownian permuton: a new universality class for random constrained permutations

We construct a new family of random permutons, called skew Brownian permuton, which describes the limits of several models of random constrained permutations. This family is parametrized by two real parameters.
For a specific choice of the parameters, the skew Brownian permuton coincides with the Baxter permuton, i.e., the permuton limit of Baxter permutations. We prove that for another specific choice of the parameters, the skew Brownian permuton coincides with the biased Brownian separable permuton, a one-parameter family of permutons previously studied in the literature as the limit of uniform permutations in substitution-closed classes. This brings two different limiting objects under the same roof, identifying a new larger universality class.
The skew Brownian permuton is constructed in terms of flows of solutions of certain stochastic differential equations (SDEs) driven by two-dimensional correlated Brownian excursions in the non-negative quadrant. We call these SDEs skew perturbed Tanaka equations because they are a mixture of the perturbed Tanaka equations and the equations encoding skew Brownian motions. We prove existence and uniqueness of (strong) solutions for these new SDEs.
In addition, we show that some natural permutons arising from Liouville quantum gravity spheres decorated with two Schramm-Loewner evolution curves are skew Brownian permutons and such permutons cover almost the whole range of possible parameters. Some connections between constrained permutations and decorated planar maps have been investigated in the literature at the discrete level; this paper establishes this connection directly at the continuum level. Proving the latter result, we also give an SDE interpretation of some quantities related to SLE-decorated Liouville quantum gravity spheres.
The permuton limit of strong-Baxter and semi-Baxter permutations is the skew Brownian permuton

We recently introduced a new universal family of permutons, depending on two parameters, called skew Brownian permuton. For some specific choices of the parameters, the skew Brownian permuton coincides with some previously studied permutons: the biased Brownian separable permuton and the Baxter permuton. The latter two permutons are degenerate cases of the skew Brownian permuton.
In the present paper we prove the first convergence result towards a non-degenerate skew Brownian permuton. Specifically, we prove that strong-Baxter permutations converge in the permuton sense to the skew Brownian permuton for a non-degenerate choice of the two parameters. In order to do that, we develop a robust technique to prove convergence towards the skew Brownian permuton for various families of random constrained permutations. This technique relies on generating trees for permutations, allowing an encoding of permutations with multi-dimensional walks in cones. We apply this technique also to semi-Baxter permutations.
The lattice of nil-Hecke algebras over real and complex reflection groups
Associated to every complex reflection group, we construct a lattice of quotients of its braid monoid-algebra, which we term nil-Hecke algebras, and which are obtained by killing all braid words that are "sufficiently long", as well as some integer power of each generator. These include usual nil-Coxeter algebras, nil-Temperley-Lieb algebras, and their variants, and lead to symmetric semigroup module categories which necessarily cannot be monoidal.
Motivated by classical work of Coxeter (1957) and the Broue-Malle-Rouquier freeness conjecture [Crelle 1998], and continuing beyond work of the second author [Trans. Amer. Math. Soc. 2018], we obtain a complete classification of the finite-dimensional nil-Hecke algebras for all complex reflection groups $W$. These comprise the usual nil-Coxeter algebras for $W$ of finite type, their "fully commutative" analogues for $W$ of FC-finite type, three exceptional algebras (of types $F_4,H_3,H_4$), and three exceptional series (of types $B_n$ and $A_n$, two of them novel). In particular, we find the first - and only two - finite-dimensional nil-Hecke algebras over discrete complex reflection groups; this breaks from the nil-Coxeter case (where no braid words are further killed, and) where Marin [J. Pure Appl. Alg. 2014] and Khare [Trans. Amer. Math. Soc. 2018] showed that such algebras do not exist.
In addition to these algebras, and also algebraic connections (to PBW deformations and non-monoidal tensor categories), we further uncover combinatorial bases of algebras, both known (fully commutative elements) and novel ($\bar{12}$-avoiding signed permutations). Our classification draws from and brings together results of Popov [Comm. Math. Inst. Utrecht 1982], Stembridge [J. Alg. Combin. 1996, 1998], Malle [Transform. Groups} 1996], Postnikov via Gowravaram-Khovanova (2015), Hart [J. Group Th. 2017], and Khare [Trans. Amer. Math. Soc. 2018].

Universal cycle for $k$-permutations is a cyclic arrangement in which each $k$-permutation appears exactly once as $k$ consecutive elements. Enumeration problem of universal cycles for $k$-permutations is discussed and one new enumerating method is proposed in this paper. Accurate enumerating formulae are provided when $k=2,3$.

We investigate the class of Kazhdan-Lusztig varieties, and its subclass of matrix Schubert varieties, endowed with a naturally defined torus action. Writing a matrix Schubert variety $\overline{X_w}$ as $\overline{X_w}=Y_w\times \mathbb{C}^d$ (where $d$ is maximal possible), we show that $Y_w$ can be of complexity-$k$ exactly when $k\neq 1$. Also, we give a combinatorial description of the extremal rays of the weight cone of a Kazhdan-Lusztig variety, which in particular turns out to be the edge cone of an acyclic directed graph. As a consequence we show that given permutations $v$ and $w$, the complexity of Kazhdan-Lusztig variety indexed by $(v,w)$ is the same as the complexity of the Richardson variety indexed by $(v,w)$. Finally, we use this description to compute the complexity of certain Kazhdan-Lusztig varieties.
Permutations with non-decreasing transposition array and pattern avoidance
We give some results about a bijection associating each permutation with a subexcedant function. This function is related to a particular decomposition of the permutation as a product of transpositions and therefore it has been called transposition array in the literature. In particular, we identify anti-exceedance positions of the permutation through its transposition array and we give an expression of the bijection in terms of the cycle structure of the permutation. We give a characterization of a family of permutations having a non-decreasing transposition array and study length 3 pattern avoidance therein.

We define and study the canonical complex of a finite semidistributive lattice $L$. It is the simplicial complex on the join or meet irreducible elements of $L$ which encodes each interval of $L$ by recording the canonical join representation of its bottom element and the canonical meet representation of its top element. This complex behaves properly with respect to lattice quotients of $L$, in the sense that the canonical complex of a quotient of $L$ is the subcomplex of the canonical complex of $L$ induced by the join or meet irreducibles of $L$ uncontracted in the quotient. We then describe combinatorially the canonical complex of the weak order on permutations in terms of semi-crossing arc bidiagrams, formed by the superimposition of two non-crossing arc diagrams of N. Reading. We provide explicit direct bijections between the semi-crossing arc bidiagrams and the weak order interval posets of G. Châtel, V. Pilaud and V. Pons. Finally, we provide an algorithm to describe the Kreweras maps in any lattice quotient of the weak order in terms of semi-crossing arc bidiagrams.

Matrix Schubert varieties are affine varieties arising in the Schubert calculus of the complete flag variety. We give a formula for the Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity of matrix Schubert varieties, answering a question of Jenna Rajchgot. We follow her proposed strategy of studying the highest-degree homogeneous parts of Grothendieck polynomials, which we call Castelnuovo-Mumford polynomials. In addition to the regularity formula, we obtain formulas for the degrees of all Castelnuovo-Mumford polynomials and for their leading terms, as well as a complete description of when two Castelnuovo-Mumford polynomials agree up to scalar multiple. The degree of the Grothendieck polynomial is a new permutation statistic which we call the Rajchgot index; we develop the properties of Rajchgot index and relate it to major index and to weak order.
On the action of the long cycle on the Kazhdan-Lusztig basis
The complex irreducible representations of the symmetric group carry an important canonical basis called the Kazhdan-Lusztig basis. Although it is difficult to express how general permutations act on this basis, some distinguished permutations have beautiful descriptions. In 2010 Rhoades showed that the long cycle $(1, 2,..., n)$ acts by the jeu-de-taquin promotion operator in the case when the irreducible representation is indexed by a rectangular partition. We prove a generalisation of this theorem in two directions: on the one hand we lift the restriction on the shape of the partition, and on the other hand we enlarge the result to the collection of all separable permutations.
Further Results on Pinnacle Sets

The study of pinnacle sets has been a recent area of interest in combinatorics. Given a permutation, its pinnacle set is the set of all values larger than the values on either side of it. Largely inspired by conjectures posed by Davis, Nelson, Petersen, and Tenner and also results proven recently by Fang, this paper aims to add to our understanding of pinnacle sets. In particular, we give a simpler and more combinatorial proof of a weighted sum formula previously proven by Fang. Additionally, we give a recursion for counting the admissible orderings of the elements of a potential pinnacle set. Finally, we give another way of viewing pinnacle sets that sheds light on their structure and also yields a recursion for counting the number of permutations with that pinnacle set.

In this paper, we study the Wilf-type equivalence relations among multiset permutations. We identify all multiset equivalences among pairs of patterns consisting of a pattern of length three and another pattern of length at most four. To establish our results, we make use of a variety of techniques, including Ferrers-equivalence arguments, sorting by minimal/maximal letters, analysis of active sites and direct bijections. In several cases, our arguments may be extended to prove multiset equivalences for infinite families of pattern pairs. Our results apply equally well to the Wilf-type classification of compositions, and as a consequence, we obtain a complete description of the Wilf-equivalence classes for pairs of patterns of type (3,3) and (3,4) on compositions, with the possible exception of two classes of type (3,4).
