On the extremal number of incidence graphs
Given a graph $H$ and a natural number $n$, the extremal number $\mathrm{ex}(n, H)$ is the largest number of edges in an $n$-vertex graph containing no copy of $H$. In this paper, we obtain a general upper bound for the extremal number of generalised face-incidence graphs, a family which includes the standard face-incidence graphs of regular polytopes. This builds on and generalises work of Janzer and Sudakov, who obtained the same bound for hypercubes and bipartite Kneser graphs, and allows us to confirm a conjecture of Conlon and Lee on the extremal number of $K_{r,r}$-free bipartite graphs for certain incidence graphs. In their work, Janzer and Sudakov showed that such an upper bound on the extremal number holds whenever the graph $H$ satisfies a certain percolation property which captures an appropriate sequence of repeated applications of the Cauchy--Schwarz inequality, a property which they then verify for hypercubes and bipartite Kneser graphs. This percolation property bears close resemblance to a property that arose in earlier work of Conlon and Lee on weakly norming graphs. In this latter work, Conlon and Lee developed a method for controlling repeated applications of the Cauchy--Schwarz inequality based on the properties of reflection groups, which then allowed them to isolate a broad family of weakly norming graphs. Here, we develop this method further, casting it in a purely algebraic form that allows us not only to combine it with the Janzer--Sudakov result and obtain the desired result about the extremal number of incidence graphs, but also to simplify the proofs of both the Conlon--Lee result on weakly norming graphs and a related result of Coregliano.

Presentations of the braid group of the complex reflection group $G(d,d,n)$
We show that the braid group associated to the complex reflection group $G(d,d,n)$ is an index $d$ subgroup of the braid group of the orbifold quotient of the complex numbers by a cyclic group of order $d$. We also give a compatible presentation of $G(d,d,n)$ and its braid group for each tagged triangulation of the disk with $n$ marked points on its boundary and an interior marked point (interpreted as a cone point of degree $d$) in such a way that the presentations of Broué-Malle-Rouquier correspond to a special tagged triangulation.

Braid groups of J-reflection groups and associated classical and dual Garside structures
The family of $J$-reflection groups can be seen as a combinatorial generalisation of irreducible rank two complex reflection groups and was introduced by the author in a previous article. In this article, we define the braid groups associated to $J$-reflection groups, which coincide with the complex braid group when the $J$-reflection group is finite. We show that the isomorphism type of the braid groups only depend on the reflection isomorphism types of the corresponding $J$-reflection groups. Moreover, we show that these braid groups are always abstractly isomorphic to circular groups. At the same time, we show that the center of the braid groups is cyclic and sent onto the center of the corresponding $J$-reflection groups under the natural quotient. Finally, we exhibit two Garside structures for each braid group of $J$-reflection group. These structures generalise the classical and dual Garside structures (when defined) of rank two irreducible complex reflection groups. In particular, the dual Garside structure of $J$-reflection groups provides candidates for dual monoids associated to the irreducible complex reflection groups of rank two which do not already have one.

Generic infinitesimal rigidity for rotational groups in the plane
In this paper we establish combinatorial characterisations of symmetry-generic infinitesimally rigid frameworks in the Euclidean plane for rotational groups of order 4 and 6, and of odd order between 5 and 1000, where a joint may lie at the centre of rotation. This extends the corresponding results for these groups in the free action case obtained by R. Ikeshita and S. Tanigawa in 2015, and our recent results for the reflection group and the rotational groups of order 2 and 3 in the non-free action case. The characterisations are given in terms of sparsity counts on the corresponding group-labelled quotient graphs, and are obtained via symmetry-adapted versions of recursive Henneberg-type graph constructions. For rotational groups of even order at least 8, we show that the sparsity counts alone are not sufficient for symmetry-generic infinitesimal rigidity.

Simplicial maps between spheres and Davis' manifolds with positive simplicial volume
We study the simplicial volume of manifolds obtained from Davis' reflection group trick, the goal being characterizing those having positive simplicial volume. In particular, we focus on checking whether manifolds in this class with nonzero Euler characteristic have positive simplicial volume (Gromov asked whether this holds in general for aspherical manifolds). This leads to a combinatorial problem about triangulations of spheres: we define a partial order on the set of triangulations -- the relation being the existence of a nonzero-degree simplicial map between two triangulations -- and the problem is to find the minimal elements of a specific subposet. We solve explicitly the case of triangulations of the two-dimensional sphere, and then perform an extensive analysis, with the help of computer searches, of the three-dimensional case. Moreover, we present a connection of this problem with the theory of graph minors.

Stirling numbers for complex reflection groups
In an earlier paper, we defined and studied q-analogues of the Stirling numbers of both types for the Coxeter group of type B. In the present work, we show how this approach can be extended to all irreducible complex reflection groups G. The Stirling numbers of the first and second kind are defined via the Whitney numbers of the first and second kind, respectively, of the intersection lattice of G. For the groups G(m,p,n), these numbers and polynomials can be given combinatorial interpretations in terms of various statistics. The ordered version of ths q-Stirling numbers of the second kind also show up in conjectured Hilbert series for certain super coinvariant algebras.

Symmetrizing polytopes and posets
Motivated by the authors' work on permuto-associahedra, which can be considered as a symmetrization of the associahedron using the symmetric group, we introduce and study the $\mathfrak{G}$-symmetrization of an arbitrary polytope $P$ for any reflection group $\mathfrak{G}$. We show that the combinatorics, and moreover, the normal fan of such a symmetrization can be recovered from its refined fundamental fan, a decorated poset describing how the normal fan of $P$ subdivides the fundamental chamber associated to the reflection group $\mathfrak{G}$. One important application of our results is providing a way to approach the realization problem of a $\mathfrak{G}$-symmetric poset F, that is, the problem of constructing a polytope whose face poset is F. Instead of working with the original poset F, we look at its dual poset T (which is $\mathfrak{G}$-symmetric as well) and focus on a generating subposet Z of T, and reduce the problem to realizing Z as a refined fundamental fan.
Complex reflection groups as differential Galois groups
Published in ACM Communications in Computer Algebra 58(3), (2025), pp. 57-61 • View PublicationBIB
Complex reflection groups comprise a generalization of Weyl groups of semisimple Lie algebras, and even more generally of finite Coxeter groups. They have been heavily studied since their introduction and complete classification in the 1950s by Shephard and Todd, due to their many applications to combinatorics, representation theory, knot theory, and mathematical physics, to name a few examples. For each given complex reflection group G, we explain a new recipe for producing an integrable system of linear differential equations whose differential Galois group is precisely G. We exhibit these systems explicitly for many (low-rank) irreducible complex reflection groups in the Shephard-Todd classification.

Hurwitz numbers for reflection groups $G(m,1,n)$
We are extending results from \cite{B-Hurwitz} by building a parallel theory of simple Hurwitz numbers for the reflection groups $G(m,1,n)$. We also study analogs of the cut-and-join operators. An algebraic description as well as a description in terms of ramified covering of Hurwitz numbers is provided. An explicit formula for them in terms of Schur polynomials are provided. In addition the generating function of $G(m,1,n)$-Hurwitz numbers is shown to give rise to $m$ independent variables $τ$-function of the KP hierarchy. Finally we provide an ELSV-formula type for these new Hurwitz numbers.

Cluster parking functions
Published in Bull. Belg. Math. Soc. Simon Stevin 32(1): 1-44 (April 2025) • Search Publication
The cluster complex on one hand, parking functions on the other hand, are two combinatorial (po)sets that can be associated to a finite real reflection group. Cluster parking functions are obtained by taking an appropriate fiber product (over noncrossing partitions). There is a natural structure of simplicial complex on these objects, and our main goal is to show that it has the homotopy type of a (pure) wedge of spheres. The unique nonzero homology group (as a representation of the underlying reflection group) is a sign-twisted parking representation, which is the same as Gordon's quotient of diagonal coinvariants. Along the way, we prove some properties of the poset of parking functions. We also provide a long list of remaining open problems.

Zero fibers of quaternionic quotient singularities
We propose a generalization of Haiman's conjecture on the diagonal coinvariant rings of real reflection groups to the context of irreducible quaternionic reflection groups (also known as symplectic reflection groups). For a reflection group $W$ acting on a quaternionic vector space $V$, by regarding $V$ as a complex vector space we consider the scheme-theoretic fiber over zero of the quotient map $π:V \to V/W$. For $W$ an irreducible reflection group of (quaternionic) rank at least $6$, we show that the ring of functions on this fiber admits a $(g+1)^n$-dimensional quotient arising from an irreducible representation of a symplectic reflection algebra, where $g=2N/n$ with $N$ the number of reflections in $W$ and $n=\mathrm{dim}_\mathbf{H}(V)$, and we conjecture that this holds in general. We observe that in fact the degree of the zero fiber is precisely $g+1$ for the rank one groups (corresponding to the Kleinian singularities). In an appendix, we give a proof that three variants of the Coxeter number, including $g$, are integers.

Generalisations of Euler's Tonnetz on triangulated surfaces
We give a definition of a what we call a `tonnetz' on a triangulated surface, generalising the famous tonnetz of Euler from 1739. In Euler's tonnetz the vertices of a regular `$A_2$ triangulation' of the plane are labelled with notes, or pitch-classes. In our generalisation we allow much more general labellings of triangulated surfaces. In particular, edge labellings turn out to lead to a rich set of examples. We construct natural examples that are related to crystallographic reflection groups and live on triangulations of tori. Underlying these we observe a curious relationship between mathematical Langlands duality and major/minor duality. We also construct `exotic' type-$A_2$ examples (different from Euler's Tonnetz), and a tonnetz on a sphere that encodes all major ninth chords.

On exterior powers of reflection representations, II
Published • View PublicationBIB
Let $W$ be a group endowed with a finite set $S$ of generators. A representation $(V,ρ)$ of $W$ is called a reflection representation of $(W,S)$ if $ρ(s)$ is a (generalized) reflection on $V$ for each generator $s \in S$. In this paper, we prove that for any irreducible reflection representation $V$, all the exterior powers $\bigwedge ^d V$, $d = 0, 1, \dots, \dim V$, are irreducible $W$-modules, and they are non-isomorphic to each other. This extends a theorem of R. Steinberg which is stated for Euclidean reflection groups. Moreover, we prove that the exterior powers (except for the 0th and the highest power) of two non-isomorphic reflection representations always give non-isomorphic $W$-modules. This allows us to construct numerous pairwise non-isomorphic irreducible representations for such groups, especially for Coxeter groups.

Representation theoretic interpretation of the Springer correspondence for dihedral groups
The Lusztig-Shoji algorithm is generalized to a complex reflection group $W$ and give us a version of the Springer correspondence of $W$. We show that the combinatorics of generalized Springer correspondences of dihedral groups of order $2n$ exhibit the Brauer-Humphreys type reciprocity as in the case of Weyl groups for odd $n$, and these constitute a major portion of the stratification of the natural module categories attached to them.

Coincidences between intervals in two partial orders on complex reflection groups
Published in J. Alg. 668 (2025), 278--307 • View PublicationBIB
In a finite real reflection group, the reflection length of each element is equal to the codimension of its fixed space, and the two coincident functions determine a partial order structure called the absolute order. In complex reflection groups, the reflection length is no longer always equal to the codimension of fixed space, and the two functions give rise to two different partial orders on the group. We characterize the elements $w$ in the combinatorial family $G(m, p, n)$ of complex reflection groups for which the intervals below $w$ in these two posets coincide. We also explore the relationship between this property and other natural properties of elements in complex reflection groups; some general theory of posets arising from subadditive functions on groups; and the particular case of subadditive functions on the symmetric group.

Rational Catalan Numbers for Complex Reflection Groups
Assuming standard conjectures, we show that the canonical symmetrizing trace evaluated at powers of a Coxeter element produces rational Catalan numbers for irreducible spetsial complex reflection groups. This extends a technique used by Galashin, Lam, Trinh, and Williams to uniformly prove the enumeration of their noncrossing Catalan objects for finite Coxeter groups.

Full runner removal theorem for Ariki-Koike algebras
We consider the representation theory of the Ariki-Koike algebra, a $q$-deformation of the group algebra of the complex reflection group $C_r \wr S_n$. We define the addition of a runner full of beads for the abacus display of a multipartition and investigate some combinatorial properties of this operation. We focus our attention on the $q$-decomposition numbers, i.e. the polynomials arising from the Fock space representation of the quantum group $U_q(\widehat{\mathfrak{sl}}_e)$. Using Fayers' LLT-type algorithm for Ariki-Koike algebras, we relate $q$-decomposition numbers for different values of $e$ for the class of $e$-multiregular multipartitions, by adding a full runner of beads to each component of the abacus displays for the labelling multipartitions.

Integral expressions for derivations of multiarrangements
The construction of an explicit basis for a free multiarrangement is not easy in general. Inspired by the integral expressions for quasi-invariants of quantum Calogero-Moser systems, we present integral expressions for specific bases of certain multiarrangements. Our construction covers the cases of three lines in dimension $2$ (previously examined by Wakamiko) and free multiarrangements associated with complex reflection groups (Hoge, Mano, Röhrle, Stump). Furthermore, we propose a conjectural basis for the module of logarithmic vector fields of the extended Catalan arrangement of type $B_2$.

An Inversion Statistic on the Hyperoctahedral Group
In this paper, we introduce an inversion statistic on the hyperoctahedral group $B_n$ by using an decomposition of a positive root system of this reflection group. Then we prove some combinatorial properties for the inversion statistic. We establish an enumeration system on the group $B_n$ and give an efficient method to uniquely derive any group element known its enumeration order with the help of the inversion table. In addition, we prove that the \textit{flag-major index} is equi-distributed with this inversion statistic on $B_n$.
