Strongly regular graphs satisfying the 4-vertex condition
Published • View Publication • BIB
We survey the area of strongly regular graphs satisfying the 4-vertex condition and find several new families. We describe a switching operation on collinearity graphs of polar spaces that produces cospectral graphs. The obtained graphs satisfy the 4-vertex condition if the original graph belongs to a symplectic polar space.

Ward-Fontené Differential Universal Algebras
In this paper a Ward-Fontené differential universal algebra is constructed. In this algebra it is possible to obtain a product $ψ$-rule and a general $ψ$-rule of Leibniz for any calculus on sequences. In particular, the simplicial polytopic calculus and the calculus on Bell numbers are introduced.
Radio-k-Labeling of Cycles for Large k
Published • View Publication • BIB
Let $G$ be a simple connected graph. For any two vertices $u$ and $v$, let $d(u,v)$ denote the distance between $u$ and $v$ in $G$. A radio-$k$-labeling of $G$ for a fixed positive integer $k$ is a function $f$ which assigns to each vertex a non-negative integer label such that for every two vertices $u$ and $ v $ in $G$, $|f(u)-f(v)| \geq k - d(u,v) +1$. The span of $f$ is the difference between the largest and smallest labels of $f(V)$. The radio-$k$-number of a graph $G$, denoted by $rn_k(G)$, is the smallest span among all radio-$k$-labelings admitted by $G$. A cycle $C_n$ has diameter $d=\lfloor n/2 \rfloor$. In this paper, we combine a lower bound approach with cyclic group structure to determine the value of $ rn_k(C_n)$ for $k \geq n-3$. For $d \leq k < n-3$, we obtain the values of $rn_k(C_n)$ when $n$ and $k$ have the same parity, and prove partial results when $n$ and $k$ have different parities. Our results extend the known values of $rn_d (C_n)$ and $rn_{d+1} (C_n)$ shown by Liu and Zhu, and by Karst, Langowitz, Oehrlein and Troxell, respectively.
On normalized Laplacian eigenvalues of power graphs associated to finite cyclic groups
Published • View Publication • BIB
For a simple connected graph $ G $ of order $ n $, the normalized Laplacian is a square matrix of order $ n $, defined as $\mathcal{L}(G)= D(G)^{-\frac{1}{2}}L(G)D(G)^{-\frac{1}{2}}$, where $ D(G)^{-\frac{1}{2}} $ is the diagonal matrix whose $ i$-th diagonal entry is $ \frac{1}{\sqrt{d_{i}}} $. In this article, we find the normalized Laplacian eigenvalues of the joined union of regular graphs in terms of the adjacency eigenvalues and the eigenvalues of quotient matrix associated with graph $ G $. For a finite group $\mathcal{G}$, the power graph $\mathcal{P}(\mathcal{G})$ of a group $ \mathcal{G} $ is defined as the simple graph in which two distinct vertices are joined by an edge if and only if one is the power of other. As a consequence of the joined union of graphs, we investigate the normalized Laplacian eigenvalues of power graphs of finite cyclic group $ \mathbb{Z}_{n}. $
Graphs of low average degree without independent transversals
Published • View Publication • BIB
An independent transversal of a graph $G$ with a vertex partition $\mathcal P$ is an independent set of $G$ intersecting each block of $\mathcal P$ in a single vertex. Wanless and Wood proved that if each block of $\mathcal P$ has size at least $t$ and the average degree of vertices in each block is at most $t/4$, then an independent transversal of $\mathcal P$ exists. We present a construction showing that this result is optimal: for any $\varepsilon > 0$ and sufficiently large $t$, there is a family of forests with vertex partitions whose block size is at least $t$, average degree of vertices in each block is at most $(\frac14+\varepsilon)t$, and there is no independent transversal. This unexpectedly shows that methods related to entropy compression such as the Rosenfeld-Wanless-Wood scheme or the Local Cut Lemma are tight for this problem. Further constructions are given for variants of the problem, including the hypergraph version.

Generalizations of a terminating summation formula of basic hypergeometric series and their applications
Published in Journal of Mathematical Analysis and Applications 2015 • Search Publication
We generalize a terminating summation formula to a unilateral nonterminating, and further, a bilateral summation formula by a property of analytic functions. The unilateral one is proved to be a $q$-analogue of a $_4F_3$-summation formula. And, an identity unifying Jacobi's triple product identity and the quintuple product identity is obtained as a special case of the bilateral one.

Recent Colorings And Labelings In Topological Coding
Topological Coding consists of two different kinds of mathematics: topological structure and mathematical relation. The colorings and labelings of graph theory are main techniques in topological coding applied in asymmetric encryption system. Topsnut-gpws (also, colored graphs) have the following advantages: (1) Run fast in communication networks because they are saved in computer by popular matrices rather than pictures. (2) Produce easily text-based (number-based) strings for encrypt files. (3) Diversity of asymmetric ciphers, one public-key corresponds to more private-keys, or more public-keys correspond more private-keys. (4) Irreversibility, Topsnut-gpws can generate quickly text-based (number-based) strings with bytes as long as desired, but these strings can not reconstruct the original Topsnut-gpws. (5) Computational security, since there are many non-polynomial (NP-complete, NP-hard) algorithms in creating Topsnut-gpws. (6) Provable security, since there are many mathematical conjectures (open problems) in graph labelings and graph colorings. We are committed to create more kinds of new Topsnut-gpws to approximate practical applications and antiquantum computation, and try to use algebraic method and Topsnut-gpws to establish graphic group, graphic lattice, graph homomorphism etc.

On the resurgence and asymptotic resurgence of homogeneous ideals
Published • View Publication • BIB
Let $\mathbb{K}$ be a field and $R = \mathbb{K}[x_1, \ldots, x_n]$. We obtain an improved upper bound for asymptotic resurgence of squarefree monomial ideals in $R$. We study the effect on the resurgence when sum, product and intersection of ideals are taken. We obtain sharp upper and lower bounds for the resurgence and asymptotic resurgence of cover ideals of finite simple graphs in terms of associated combinatorial invariants. We also explicitly compute the resurgence and asymptotic resurgence of cover ideals of several classes of graphs. We characterize a graph being bipartite in terms of the resurgence and asymptotic resurgence of edge and cover ideals. We also compute explicitly the resurgence and asymptotic resurgence of edge ideals of some classes of graphs.

Twin-Width is Linear in the Poset Width
Twin-width is a new parameter informally measuring how diverse are the neighbourhoods of the graph vertices, and it extends also to other binary relational structures, e.g. to digraphs and posets. It was introduced just very recently, in 2020 by Bonnet, Kim, Thomasse and Watrigant. One of the core results of these authors is that FO model checking on graph classes of bounded twin-width is in FPT. With that result, they also claimed that posets of bounded width have bounded twin-width, thus capturing prior result on FO model checking of posets of bounded width in FPT. However, their translation from poset width to twin-width was indirect and giving only a very loose double-exponential bound. We prove that posets of width d have twin-width at most 9d with a direct and elegant argument, and show that this bound is asymptotically tight. Specially, for posets of width 2 we prove that in the worst case their twin-width is also equal 2. These two theoretical results are complemented with straightforward algorithms to construct the respective contraction sequence for a given poset.

Generating series of non-oriented constellations and marginal sums in the Matching-Jack conjecture
Published • View Publication • BIB
Using the description of hypermaps with matchings, Goulden and Jackson have given an expression of the generating series of rooted bipartite maps in terms of the zonal polynomials. We generalize this approach to the case of constellations on non-oriented surfaces that have recently been introduced by Chapuy and Dołęga. A key step in the proof is an encoding of constellations with tuples of matchings. We consider a one parameter deformation of the generating series of constellations using Jack polynomials and we introduce the coefficients $c^λ_{μ^0,...,μ^k}(b)$ obtained by the expansion of these functions in the power-sum basis. These coefficients are indexed by $k+2$ integer partitions and the deformation parameter $b$, and can be considered as a generalization for $k\geq1$ of the connection coefficients introduced by Goulden and Jackson. We prove that when we take some marginal sums, these coefficients enumerate $b$-weighted $k$-tuples of matchings. This can be seen as an "unrooted" version of a recent result of Chapuy and Dołęga for constellations. For $k=1$, this gives a partial answer to Goulden and Jackson Matching-Jack conjecture. Lassale has formulated a positivity conjecture for the coefficients $θ^{(α)}_μ(λ)$, defined as the coefficient of the Jack polynomial $J_λ^{(α)}$ in the power-sum basis. We use the second main result of this paper to give a proof of this conjecture in the case of partitions $λ$ with rectangular shape.
Electrical networks and Lagrangian Grassmannians
Published • View Publication • BIB
Cactus networks were introduced by Lam as a generalization of planar electrical networks. He defined a map from these networks to the Grassmannian Gr($n+1,2n$) and showed that the image of this map, $\mathcal X_n$ lies inside the totally nonnegative part of this Grassmannian. In this paper, we show that $\mathcal X_n$ is exactly the elements of Gr($n+1,2n$) that are both totally nonnegative and isotropic for a particular skew-symmetric bilinear form. For certain classes of cactus networks, we also explicitly describe how to turn response matrices and effective resistance matrices into points of Gr($n+1,2n$) given by Lam's map. Finally, we discuss how our work relates to earlier studies of total positivity for Lagrangian Grassmannians.

On a conjecture of Gowers and Wolf
Gowers and Wolf have conjectured that, given a set of linear forms $\{ψ_i\}_{i=1}^t$ each mapping $\mathbb{Z}^D$ to $\mathbb{Z}$, if $s$ is an integer such that the functions $ψ_1^{s+1},\ldots, ψ_t^{s+1}$ are linearly independent, then averages of the form $\mathbb{E}_{\boldsymbol{x}} \prod_{i=1}^t f(ψ_i(\boldsymbol{x}))$ may be controlled by the Gowers $U^{s+1}$-norm of $f$. We prove (a stronger version of) this conjecture.

Degrees in link graphs of regular graphs
Published in Electronic Journal of Combinatorics Volume 29, Issue 2 (2022) Article Number P2.23 • View Publication • BIB
We analyse an extremal question on the degrees of the link graphs of a finite regular graph, that is, the subgraphs induced by non-trivial spheres. We show that if $G$ is $d$-regular and connected but not complete then some link graph of $G$ has minimum degree at most $\lfloor 2d/3\rfloor-1$, and if $G$ is sufficiently large in terms of $d$ then some link graph has minimum degree at most $\lfloor d/2\rfloor-1$; both bounds are best possible. We also give the corresponding best-possible result for the corresponding problem where subgraphs induced by balls, rather than spheres, are considered. We motivate these questions by posing a conjecture concerning expansion of link graphs in large bounded-degree graphs, together with a heuristic justification thereof.

All feedback arc sets of a random Turán tournament have n/k-k+1 disjoint k-cliques (and this is tight)
Published in SIAM J. Discrete Math. Vol. 35, No. 2, pp. 1460--1477, 2021 • View Publication • BIB
We look at structures that must be removed (or reversed) in order to make acyclic a given oriented graph. For a directed acyclic graph $H$ and an oriented graph $G$, let $f_H(G)$ be the maximum number of pairwise disjoint copies of $H$ that can be found in {\em all} feedback arc sets of $G$. In particular, to make $G$ acyclic, one must remove (or reverse) $f_H(G)$ pairwise disjoint copies of $H$. Most intriguing is the case where $H$ is a $k$-clique, where the parameter is denoted by $f_k(G)$. Determining $f_k(G)$ for arbitrary $G$ seems challenging. Here we determine $f_k(G)$ precisely for almost all $k$-partite tournaments. Let $s(G)$ denote the size of the smallest vertex class of a $k$-partite tournament $G$. We prove that for all sufficiently large $s=s(G)$, a random $k$-partite tournament $G$ satisfies $f_k(G) = s(G)-k+1$ almost surely. In particular, as the title states, $f_k(G) = \lfloor n/k\rfloor-k+1$ almost surely, where $G$ is a random orientation of the Turán graph $T(n,k)$.

Positive Jantzen sum formulas for cyclotomic Hecke algebras
Published • View Publication • BIB
We prove a ``positive'' Jantzen sum formula for the Specht modules of the cyclotomic Hecke algebras of type~$A$. That is, in the Grothendieck group, we show that the sum of the pieces of the Jantzen filtration is equal to an explicit non-negative linear combination of modules $E^ν_{f,e}$, which are modular reductions of simple modules for closely connected Hecke algebras in characteristic zero. The coefficient of $E^ν_{f,e}$ in the sum formula is determined by the graded decomposition numbers in characteristic zero, which are known, and the characteristic of the field. As a consequence we see that the decomposition numbers of a cyclotomic Hecke algebra at an $e$th root of unity in characteristic $p$ depend on the decomposition numbers of related cyclotomic Hecke algebras at $ep^r$th roots of unity in characteristic zero, for $r\ge0$.

On the general no-three-in-line problem
In this paper we show that the number of points that can be placed in the grid $n\times n\times \cdots \times n~(d~times)=n^d$ for all $d\in \mathbb{N}$ with $d\geq 2$ such that no three points are collinear satisfies the lower bound \begin{align} \gg_d n^{d-1}\sqrt[2d]{d}.\nonumber \end{align}This pretty much extends the result of the no-three-in-line problem to all dimension $d\geq 3$.

Two extremal problems in the light of Lex graphs
Extremal problems involving independent sets are much studied. Two of the most important extremal problems in this context are concerned with the sharp upper bounds for the number of independent sets of fixed size and the independence number. In literature, these sharp upper bounds are derived in completely different contexts. In this paper, we show that both of these sharp upper bounds can be derived by considering Lex graphs. More exactly, they depend on two parameters of a sequence defined on them.

A remark on ${\mathbb F}_{q^n}$-Linear MRD codes
In this note, we provide a description of the elements of minimum rank of a generalized Gabidulin code in terms of Grassmann coordinates. As a consequence, a characterization of linearized polynomials of rank at most $n-k$ is obtained, as well as parametric equations for MRD-codes of distance $d=n-k+1$.
