New bounds for a hypergraph Bipartite Turán problem
Let $t$ be an integer such that $t\geq 2$. Let $K_{2,t}^{(3)}$ denote the triple system consisting of the $2t$ triples $\{a,x_i,y_i\}$, $\{b,x_i,y_i\}$ for $1 \le i \le t$, where the elements $a, b, x_1, x_2, \ldots, x_t,$ $y_1, y_2, \ldots, y_t$ are all distinct. Let $ex(n,K_{2,t}^{(3)})$ denote the maximum size of a triple system on $n$ elements that does not contain $K_{2,t}^{(3)}$. This function was studied by Mubayi and Verstraëte, where the special case $t=2$ was a problem of Erdős that was studied by various authors. Mubayi and Verstraëte proved that $ex(n,K_{2,t}^{(3)})<t^4\binom{n}{2}$ and that for infinitely many $n$, $ex(n,K_{2,t}^{(3)})\geq \frac{2t-1}{3} \binom{n}{2}$. These bounds together with a standard argument show that $g(t):=\lim_{n\to \infty} ex(n,K_{2,t}^{(3)})/\binom{n}{2}$ exists and that \[\frac{2t-1}{3}\leq g(t)\leq t^4.\] Addressing the question of Mubayi and Verstraëte on the growth rate of $g(t)$, we prove that as $t \to \infty$, \[g(t) = Θ(t^{1+o(1)}).\]

FPRAS for the Potts Model and the Number of $k$-colorings
In this paper, we give a sampling algorithm for the Potts model using Markov chains. Based on the sampling algorithm, we give \emph{FPRAS}es for the Potts model and the number of $k$-colorings of the graph.

Local metric dimension of graphs: generalized hierarchical products and some applications
Let $G$ be a graph and $S\subseteq V(G)$. If every two adjacent vertices of $G$ have different metric $S$-representations, then $S$ is a local metric generator for $G$. A local metric generator of smallest order is a local metric basis for $G$, its order is the local metric dimension of $G$. Lower and upper bounds on the local metric dimension of the generalized hierarchical product are proved and demonstrated to be sharp. The results are applied to determine or bound the dimension of several graphs of importance in mathematical chemistry. Using the dimension, a new model for assigning codes to customers in delivery services is proposed.

Universal graph Schubert varieties
We consider the loci of invertible linear maps $f : \mathbb{C}^n \to {(\mathbb{C}^n)}^*$ together with pairs of flags $(E_\bullet, F_\bullet)$ in $\mathbb{C}^n$ such that the various restrictions $f : F_j \to E_i^*$ have specified ranks. Identifying an invertible linear map with its graph viewed as a point in a Grassmannian, we show that the closures of these loci have cohomology classes represented by the back-stable Schubert polynomials of Lam, Lee, and Shimozono. As a special case, we recover the result of Knutson, Lam, and Speyer that Stanley symmetric functions represent the classes of graph Schubert varieties. We consider similar loci where $f$ is restricted to be symmetric or skew-symmetric. Their classes are now given by back-stable versions of the polynomials introduced by Wyser and Yong to represent classes of orbit closures for the orthogonal and symplectic groups acting on the type A flag variety. Using degeneracy locus formulas of Kazarian and of Anderson and Fulton, we obtain new Pfaffian formulas for these polynomials in the vexillary case. We also give a geometric interpretation of the involution Stanley symmetric functions of Hamaker, Marberg, and the author: they represent classes of involution graph Schubert varieties in isotropic Grassmannians.

Robinson-Schensted-Knuth correspondence in the representation theory of the general linear group over a non-archimedean local field
Published in Represent. Theory 25 (2021), 644-678 • View Publication • BIB
We construct new "standard modules" for the representations of general linear groups over a local non-archimedean field. The construction uses a modified Robinson-Schensted-Knuth correspondence for Zelevinsky's multisegments. Typically, the new class categorifies the basis of Doubilet, Rota, and Stein for matrix polynomial rings, indexed by bitableaux. Hence, our main result provides a link between the dual canonical basis (coming from quantum groups) and the DRS basis.

(Lack of) Model Structures on the Category of Graphs
Published in Applied Categorical Structures (2021) • View Publication • BIB
In this article, we study model structures on the category of finite graphs with $\times$-homotopy equivalences as the weak equivalences. We show that there does not exist an analogue of Strøm-Hurewicz model structure on this category of graphs. More interestingly, we show that this category of graphs with $\times$-homotopy equivalences does not have a model structure whenever the class of cofibrations is a subclass of graph inclusions.

Application of Hales-Jewett theorem near 0
The famous van der Waerden theorem states that if partition N into finitely many cells then one of them will contain arbitrary length arithmetic progressions. It has a polynomial version also. In this article we will prove the near 0 version of the polynomial van der Waerden theorem which was unsolved, using combinatorics.

Equivalence classes in matching covered graphs
A connected graph $G$, of order two or more, is matching covered if each edge lies in some \pema. The tight cut decomposition of a matching covered graph $G$ yields a list of bricks and braces; as per a theorem of Lov{á}sz~\cite{lova87}, this list is unique (up to multiple edges); $b(G)$ denotes the number of bricks, and $c_4(G)$ denotes the number of braces that are isomorphic to the cycle $C_4$ (up to multiple edges). Two edges $e$ and $f$ are mutually dependent if, for each perfect matching $M$, $e \in M$ if and only if $f \in M$; Carvalho, Lucchesi and Murty investigated this notion in their landmark paper~\cite{clm99}. For any matching covered graph $G$, mutual dependence is an equivalence relation, and it partitions $E(G)$ into equivalence classes; this equivalence class partition is denoted by $\mathcal{E}_G$ and we refer to its parts as equivalence classes of $G$; we use $\varepsilon(G)$ to denote the cardinality of the largest equivalence class. The operation of `splicing' may be used to construct bigger matching covered graphs from smaller ones; see~\cite{lckm18}; `tight splicing' is a stronger version of `splicing'. (These are converses of the notions of `separating cut' and `tight cut'.) In this article, we answer the following basic question: if a matching covered graph $G$ is obtained by `splicing' (or by `tight splicing') two smaller matching covered graphs, say~$G_1$~and~$G_2$, then how is $\mathcal{E}_G$ related to $\mathcal{E}_{G_1}$ and to $\mathcal{E}_{G_2}$ (and vice versa)? As applications of our findings: firstly, we establish tight upper bounds on $\varepsilon(G)$ in terms of $b(G)$ and $c_4(G)$; secondly, we answer a recent question of He, Wei, Ye and Zhai~\cite{hwyz19}, in the affirmative, by constructing graphs that have arbitrarily high $κ(G)$~and~$\varepsilon(G)$ simultaneously, where $κ(G)$ denotes the vertex-connectivity.

Kazhdan-Lusztig left cells in type $B_n$ for intermediate parameters
Using a characterization of a generalized $τ$-invariant for intermediate parameter Hecke algebras in type $B_n$, we verify a conjectural description of Kazhdan-Lusztig cells in this setting due to C. Bonnafé, L. Iancu, M. Geck, and T. Lam.

$F$-matrices of cluster algebras from triangulated surfaces
Published in Annals of Combinatorics, Vol. 24 (2020) 649--695 • View Publication • BIB
For a given marked surface $(S,M)$ and a fixed tagged triangulation $T$ of $(S,M)$, we show that each tagged triangulation $T'$ of $(S,M)$ is uniquely determined by the intersection numbers of tagged arcs of $T$ and tagged arcs of $T'$. As consequence, each cluster in the cluster algebra $\mathcal{A}(T)$ is uniquely determined by its $F$-matrix which is a new numerical invariant of the cluster introduced by Fujiwara and Gyoda.

OGS canonical forms and exchange laws for the I and for the A-type Coxeter groups
We consider a generalization of the fundamental theorem of finitely generated abelian groups for some non-abelian groups, which is called OGS. First, we consider the dihedral group, which is a non-abelian extension of an abelian group by an involution. Then, we focus on a special case, where the abelian group is cyclic, which is the two-generated Coxeter group I{2}(m). We mention interesting connections between the reduced Coxeter presentation and a particular OGS canonical presentation, which we call the standard OGS canonical presentation. These connections motivate us to offer a generalization of the standard OGS to the A-type Coxeter group, which can be considered as the dual family to the I-type Coxeter groups. The n-1 generated A-type Coxeter groups can be considered as the symmetric group S{n} for an arbitrary n. We mention the standard and the dual-standard OGS of S{n}, where, The standard OGS canonical form of S{n} has a special interest in combinatorics, since in 2001, R. M. Adin, and Y. Roichman has proved that sum of the exponents in the canonical form is coincide with the major-index of the permutation, which is equi-disributed with the Coxeter length. In this paper we extend the results of Adin and Roichman very significantly, where we show interesting properties of the exchange laws, we define standard OGS elementary factorization, which connects between the standard OGS and the descent set of a permutation. Then, by using the standard OGS elementary factorization, we find a new explicit formula for the Coxeter length of an element of S{n}, and we give a new algorithm for the standard OGS canonical form and the descent set of the inverse element of an arbitrary element of S{n}.

Skeletons of Prym varieties and Brill--Noether theory
Published in Alg. Number Th. 15 (2021) 785-820 • View Publication • BIB
We show that the non-Archimedean skeleton of the Prym variety associated to an unramified double cover of an algebraic curve is naturally isomorphic (as a principally polarized tropical abelian variety) to the tropical Prym variety of the associated tropical double cover. This confirms a conjecture by Jensen and the first author. We prove a new upper bound on the dimension of the Prym-Brill-Noether locus for generic unramified double covers of curves with fixed even gonality on the base. Our methods also give a new proof of the classical Prym-Brill-Noether Theorem for generic unramified double covers that is originally due to Welters and Bertram.

Asymptotic complements in the integers
Published in J. Number Theory 213 (2020), 101--115 • View Publication • BIB
Let $W\subseteq \mathbb{Z}$ be a non-empty subset of the integers. A nonempty set $C\subseteq \mathbb{Z}$ is said to be an asymptotic complement to $W$ if $W+C$ contains almost all the integers except a set of finite size. $C$ is said to be a minimal asymptotic complement if $C$ is an asymptotic complement, but $C\setminus \lbrace c\rbrace$ is not an asymptotic complement $\forall c\in C$. Asymptotic complements have been studied in the context of representations of integers since the time of Erdős, Hanani, Lorentz and others, while the notion of minimal asymptotic complements is due to Nathanson. In this article, we study minimal asymptotic complements in $\mathbb{Z}$ and deal with a problem of Nathanson on their existence and their inexistence.

Compact graphings
Published in Acta. Math. Hung. 161 (2020), 185--196 • View Publication • BIB
Graphings are special bounded-degree graphs on probability spaces, representing limits of graph sequences that are convergent in a local or local-global sense. We describe a procedure for turning the underlying space into a compact metric space, where the edge set is closed and nearby points have nearby graph neighborhoods.

Maximal determinants of sparse zero-one matrices
We give upper bounds for the determinant of an $n\times n$ zero-one matrix containing $kn$ ones for integral $k$. Our results improve upon a result of Ryser for $k=o(n^{1/3})$. For fixed $k\ge 3$ it was an open question whether Hadamard's inequality could be exponentially improved. We answer this in the affirmative. Our results stem from studying matrices with row sums $k$ and bounding their Gram determinants. Our technique allows us to give upper bounds when these matrices are perturbed.

Random graphs induced by Catalan pairs
We consider Catalan-pair graphs, a family of graphs that can be viewed as representing certain interactions between pairs of objects which are enumerated by the Catalan numbers. In this paper we study random Catalan-pair graphs and deduce various properties of these random graphs. In particular, we asymptotically determine the expected number of edges and isolated vertices, and more generally we determine the expected number of (induced) subgraphs isomorphic to a given connected graph.

A structure of 1-planar graph and its applications to coloring problems
Published in Graphs and Combinatorics, 35(3) (2019) 677-688 • View Publication • BIB
A graph is 1-planar if it can be drawn on a plane so that each edge is crossed by at most one other edge. In this paper, we first give a useful structural theorem for 1-planar graphs, and then apply it to the list edge and list total coloring, the $(p,1)$-total labelling, and the equitable edge coloring of 1-planar graphs. More precisely, we verify the well-known List Edge Coloring Conjecture and List Total Coloring Conjecture for 1-planar graph with maximum degree at least 18, prove that the $(p,1)$-total labelling number of every 1-planar graph $G$ is at most $Δ(G)+2p-2$ provided that $Δ(G)\geq 8p+2$ and $p\geq 2$, and show that every 1-planar graph has an equitable edge coloring with $k$ colors for any integer $k\geq 18$. These three results respectively generalize the main theorems of three different previously published papers.

Classification of spin models for Yang-Baxter planar algebras
In this paper, we classify all spin models for singly-generated Yang-Baxter planar algebras in terms of certain highly regular graphs. Using Liu's classification of singly generated Yang-Baxter planar algebras, this classifies all spin models for the Jones polynomial, the Bisch-Jones planar algebras, and the Kauffman polynomial. This simplifies and clarifies Jaeger's classification of spin models for the Kauffman polynomial. In particular, we completely avoid the opaque and computationally-taxing concept of "formal self-duality"; we also explain the numerous exceptional cases in Jaeger's classification by demonstrating a new, discrete two-parameter family of spin models for the Bisch-Jones planar algebras.
