Random walks on the random graph

We study random walks on the giant component of the Erdős-Rényi random graph ${\cal G}(n,p)$ where $p=λ/n$ for $λ>1$ fixed. The mixing time from a worst starting point was shown by Fountoulakis and Reed, and independently by Benjamini, Kozma and Wormald, to have order $\log^2 n$. We prove that starting from a uniform vertex (equivalently, from a fixed vertex conditioned to belong to the giant) both accelerates mixing to $O(\log n)$ and concentrates it (the cutoff phenomenon occurs): the typical mixing is at $(ν{\bf d})^{-1}\log n \pm (\log n)^{1/2+o(1)}$, where $ν$ and ${\bf d}$ are the speed of random walk and dimension of harmonic measure on a ${\rm Poisson}(λ)$-Galton-Watson tree. Analogous results are given for graphs with prescribed degree sequences, where cutoff is shown both for the simple and for the non-backtracking random walk.

We establish limit theorems that describe the asymptotic local and global geometric behaviour of random enriched trees considered up to symmetry. We apply these general results to random unlabelled weighted rooted graphs and uniform random unlabelled $k$-trees that are rooted at a $k$-clique of distinguishable vertices. For both models we establish a Gromov--Hausdorff scaling limit, a Benjamini--Schramm limit, and a local weak limit that describes the asymptotic shape near the fixed root.
An Algorithmic Proof of the Lovasz Local Lemma via Resampling Oracles

The Lovasz Local Lemma is a seminal result in probabilistic combinatorics. It gives a sufficient condition on a probability space and a collection of events for the existence of an outcome that simultaneously avoids all of those events. Finding such an outcome by an efficient algorithm has been an active research topic for decades. Breakthrough work of Moser and Tardos (2009) presented an efficient algorithm for a general setting primarily characterized by a product structure on the probability space.
In this work we present an efficient algorithm for a much more general setting. Our main assumption is that there exist certain functions, called resampling oracles, that can be invoked to address the undesired occurrence of the events. We show that, in all scenarios to which the original Lovasz Local Lemma applies, there exist resampling oracles, although they are not necessarily efficient. Nevertheless, for essentially all known applications of the Lovasz Local Lemma and its generalizations, we have designed efficient resampling oracles. As applications of these techniques, we present new results for packings of Latin transversals, rainbow matchings and rainbow spanning trees.

Given a coprime pair $(m,n)$ of positive integers, rational Catalan numbers $\frac{1}{m+n} \binom{m+n}{m,n}$ counts two combinatorial objects:rational $(m,n)$-Dyck paths are lattice paths in the $m\times n$ rectangle that never go below the diagonal; $(m,n)$-cores are partitions with no hook length equal to $m$ or $n$.Anderson established a bijection between $(m,n)$-Dyck paths and $(m,n)$-cores. We define a new transformation, called rank complement, on rational Dyck paths. We show that rank complement corresponds to conjugation of $(m,n)$-cores under Anderson's bijection. This leads to: i) a new approach to characterizing $n$-cores; ii) a simple approach for counting the number of self-conjugate $(m,n)$-cores; iii) a proof of the equivalence of two conjectured combinatorial sum formulas, one over rational $(m,n)$-Dyck paths and the other over $(m,n)$-cores, for rational Catalan polynomials.
On the list chromatic index of graphs of tree-width 3 and maximum degree at least 7
Among other results, it is shown that 3-trees are $Δ$-edge-choosable and that graphs of tree-width 3 and maximum degree at least 7 are $Δ$-edge-choosable.
A cell filtration of the restriction of a cell module
We give a new proof that the restriction of a cell module of the Hecke algebra of the symmetric group on $n$ letters, to the Hecke algebra of the symmetric group on $n-1$ letters, has a filtration by cell modules.

Let $R= S/I$ where $S=k[T_1, \ldots, T_n]$ and $I$ is a homogeneous ideal in $S$. The acyclic closure $R \langle Y \rangle $ of $k$ over $R$ is a DG algebra resolution obtained by means of Tate's process of adjoining variables to kill cycles. In a similar way one can obtain the minimal model $S[X]$, a DG algebra resolution of $R$ over $S$. By a theorem of Avramov there is a tight connection between these two resolutions. In this paper we study these two resolutions when $I$ is the edge ideal of a path or a cycle. We determine the behavior of the deviations $\varepsilon_i(R)$, which are the number of variables in $R\langle Y \rangle$ in homological degree $i$. We apply our results to the study of the $k$-algebra structure of the Koszul homology of $R$.
On Double Schubert and Grothendieck polynomials for Classical Groups
We give an algebra-combinatorial constructions of (noncommutative) generating functions of double Schubert and double $β$-Grothendieck polynomials corresponding to the full flag varieties associated to the Lie groups of classical types $A,B, C$ and $D$. Our approach is based on the decomposition of certain `` transfer matrices `` corresponding to the exponential solution to the quantum Yang--Baxter equations associated with either NiCoxeter or IdCoxeter algebras of classical types.
The "triple"~$β$-Grothendieck polynomials ${\mathfrak{G}}_{w}^{W}(X,Y,Z)$ we have introduced, satisfy, among other things, the coherency and (generalized) vanishing conditions. Their generating function has a nice factorization in the algebra $Id_βCoxeter(W)$, and as a consequence, the polynomials ${\mathfrak{G}}_{w}^{W}(X,Y,Z)$ admit a combinatorial description in terms of $W$-type pipe dreams.
New Lower Bounds for the Shannon Capacity of Odd Cycles

The Shannon capacity of a graph $G$ is defined as $c(G)=\sup_{d\geq 1}(α(G^d))^{\frac{1}{d}},$ where $α(G)$ is the independence number of $G$. The Shannon capacity of the cycle $C_5$ on $5$ vertices was determined by Lovász in 1979, but the Shannon capacity of a cycle $C_p$ for general odd $p$ remains one of the most notorious open problems in information theory. By prescribing stabilizers for the independent sets in $C_p^d$ and using stochastic search methods, we show that $α(C_7^5)\geq 350$, $α(C_{11}^4)\geq 748$, $α(C_{13}^4)\geq 1534$ and $α(C_{15}^3)\geq 381$. This leads to improved lower bounds on the Shannon capacity of $C_7$ and $C_{15}$: $c(C_7)\geq 350^{\frac{1}{5}}> 3.2271$ and $c(C_{15})\geq 381^{\frac{1}{3}}> 7.2495$.

A classification of transitive links and periodic links
We generalized the periodic links to \emph{transitive} links in a $3$-manifold $M$. We find a complete classification theorem of transitive links in a $3$-dimensional sphere $\mathbb{R}^3$. We study these links from several different aspects including polynomial invariants using the relation between link polynomials of a transitive link and its factor links.

Quantum determinants and Pfaffians or permanents and Hafnians are introduced on the two parameter quantum general linear group. Fundamental identities among quantum Pf, Hf, and det are proved in the general setting. We show that there are two special quantum algebras among the quantum groups, where the quantum Pfaffians have integral Laurent polynomials as coefficients. As a consequence, the quantum Hafnian is computed by a closely related quantum permanent and identical to the quantum Pfaffian on this special quantum algebra.

Take a sequence of couples $(G_n,K_n)_n$, where $G_n$ is a group and $K_n$ is a sub-group of $G_n.$ Under some conditions, we are able to give a formula that shows the form of the structure coefficients that appear in the product of double-classes of $K_n$ in $G_n.$ We show how this can give us a similar result for the structure coefficients of the centers of group algebras.
These formulas allow us to re-obtain the polynomiality property of the structure coefficients in the cases of the center of the symmetric group algebra and the Hecke algebra of the pair $(\mathcal{S}_{2n},\mathcal{B}_{n}).$ We also give a new polynomiality property for the structure coefficients of the center of the hyperoctahedral group algebra and the double-class algebra $\mathbb{C}[diag(\mathcal{S}_{n-1})\setminus \mathcal{S}_n\times \mathcal{S}^{opp}_{n-1}/ diag(\mathcal{S}_{n-1})].$

In this article we construct a new family of linear maximum rank distance (MRD) codes for all parameters. This family contains the only known family for general parameters, the Gabidulin codes, and contains codes inequivalent to the Gabidulin codes. This family also contains the well-known family of semifields known as Generalised Twisted Fields. We also calculate the automorphism group of these codes, including the automorphism group of the Gabidulin codes.
Quantitative $(p,q)$ theorems in combinatorial geometry
We show quantitative versions of classic results in discrete geometry, where the size of a convex set is determined by some non-negative function. We give versions of this kind for the selection theorem of Bárány, the existence of weak epsilon-nets for convex sets and the $(p,q)$ theorem of Alon and Kleitman. These methods can be applied to functions such as the volume, surface area or number of points of a discrete set. We also give general quantitative versions of the colorful Helly theorem for continuous functions.
The representation ring of the unitary groups and Markov processes of algebraic origin

The paper consists of two parts. The first part introduces the representation ring for the family of compact unitary groups U(1), U(2),.... This novel object is a commutative graded algebra R with infinite-dimensional homogeneous components. It plays the role of the algebra of symmetric functions, which serves as the representation ring for the family of finite symmetric groups. The purpose of the first part is to elaborate on the basic definitions and prepare the ground for the construction of the second part of the paper.
The second part deals with a family of Markov processes on the dual object to the infinite-dimensional unitary group U(infinity). These processes were defined in a joint work with Alexei Borodin (J. Funct. Anal. 2012; arXiv:1009.2029). The main result of the present paper consists in the derivation of an explicit expression for their infinitesimal generators. It is shown that the generators are implemented by certain second order partial differential operators with countably many variables, initially defined as operators on R.
$(s,t)$-cores: a weighted version of Armstrong's conjecture

The study of core partitions has been very active in recent years, with the study of $(s,t)$-cores - partitions which are both $s$- and $t$-cores - playing a prominent role. A conjecture of Armstrong, proved recently by Johnson, says that the average size of an $(s,t)$-core, when $s$ and $t$ are coprime positive integers, is $\frac1{24}(s-1)(t-1)(s+t-1)$. Armstrong also conjectured that the same formula gives the average size of a self-conjugate $(s,t)$-core; this was proved by Chen, Huang and Wang.
In the present paper, we develop the ideas from the author's paper [J. Combin. Theory Ser. A 118 (2011) 1525-1539] studying actions of affine symmetric groups on the set of $s$-cores in order to give variants of Armstrong's conjectures in which each $(s,t)$-core is weighted by the reciprocal of the order of its stabiliser under a certain group action. Informally, this weighted average gives the expected size of the $t$-core of a random $s$-core.
Invariance principle on the slice

We prove an invariance principle for functions on a slice of the Boolean cube, which is the set of all vectors {0,1}^n with Hamming weight k. Our invariance principle shows that a low-degree, low-influence function has similar distributions on the slice, on the entire Boolean cube, and on Gaussian space.
Our proof relies on a combination of ideas from analysis and probability, algebra and combinatorics.
Our result imply a version of majority is stablest for functions on the slice, a version of Bourgain's tail bound, and a version of the Kindler-Safra theorem. As a corollary of the Kindler-Safra theorem, we prove a stability result of Wilson's theorem for t-intersecting families of sets, improving on a result of Friedgut.

Let $s\_2(x)$ denote the number of digits "$1$" in a binary expansion of any $x \in \mathbb{N}$. We study the mean distribution $μ\_a$ of the quantity $s\_2(x+a)-s\_2(x)$ for a fixed positive integer $a$.It is shown that solutions of the equation$$ s\_2(x+a)-s\_2(x)= d $$are uniquely identified by a finite set of prefixes in $\{0,1\}^*$, and that the probability distribution of differences $d$ is given by an infinite product of matrices whose coefficients are operators of $l^1(\mathbb{Z})$.Then, denoting by $l(a)$ the number of patterns "$01$" in the binary expansion of $a$, we give the asymptotic behaviour of this probability distribution as $l(a)$ goes to infinity as well as estimates of the variance of the probability measure $μ\_a$
Order-Chain Polytopes

Given two families $X$ and $Y$ of integral polytopes with nice combinatorial and algebraic properties, a natural way to generate new class of polytopes is to take the intersection $\mathcal{P}=\mathcal{P}_1\cap\mathcal{P}_2$, where $\mathcal{P}_1\in X$, $\mathcal{P}_2\in Y$. Two basic questions then arise: 1) when $\mathcal{P}$ is integral and 2) whether $\mathcal{P}$ inherits the "old type" from $\mathcal{P}_1, \mathcal{P}_2$ or has a "new type", that is, whether $\mathcal{P}$ is unimodularly equivalent to some polytope in $X\cup Y$ or not. In this paper, we focus on the families of order polytopes and chain polytopes and create a new class of polytopes following the above framework, which are named order-chain polytopes. In the study on their volumes, we discover a natural relation with Ehrenborg and Mahajan's results on maximizing descent statistics.
